I'm so happy to hear! One of our dear friends is downsizing now and has decided to travel for a few months. Her place went on the market and sold the same day! She was shocked, and is stressing over all of the stuff from nearly 30 years of living in the same place.

it was about that fast for us as well. Tell her to have faith. Once she has worked through it all and 'll have thrown out about 95%, she'll be amazed at how much peace it brings, and how much 'room' in her head.
I'm trying to give her all the support I can from afar - she's on the other side of the mountain - only about 3 hours, but it's a drive. She's already starting to feel the freedom - and the fears of letting go. She'll be so much happier away from her current locale - the "hood" has gotten very rough.
maybe it will help if you tell her that we got rid of 95%, stored the rest, and are now finding that of that last 5%, we are not missing half!
I'll pass that tidbit on to her. She's already afraid she'll have to get a second storage unit. She does want to hang on to her furniture, but she's even looking into rehoming her dog! I wish I could take him, but Blaze tore his ACL and can't be running all over the place until he gets better.
same with clothes. I threw out most, then when we went through it again changing from winter to summer clothes, I threw out about half again.
better keep the dog and let the furniture go. I am serious.
I tend to agree with you about the dog! She kind of ended up with him accidentally, but he is a sweetie - a lab/Rottie mix, huge dog.

I told her to try the "does it bring me joy?" thing from Marie Kondo, but she said it wasn't working for her. I've found it easier to toss stuff when I think about what I'm considering tossing...it goes in the trash or recycle pretty fast.

Just as well, one of my cats has developed a fear of thunder. He seemed fine last year now this year that and fireworks bother him.
