The Official Phantom of the Day is 'rudiment'
hi everyone :)
saw that one myself, SJ hi,cybernan!
That's part of what makes it Official. Lots of people will at least think about entering it.
runner-up Phantom is "merrier."
that hawaiian goose has sure been making a lot of appearances lately

Has anyone heard from Ruby?
Has anyone heard from Ruby?
I must be sleepy. Sorry.
bbl
I think she was here last night.
Fireworks!! Yay!!
Bonjour!
and there she is - hi, ruby, gapeach was asking about you, you probably saw that already.
(as there's so little in chog in the first place!)
I miss the happy flipping crowds. But perhaps soon the ebb and flow may move back to flow, haha.
i have to 2 ca8 - any idea of the third ?
*the 2
Rbud, I appreciate your concern but I'm hoping that the radiation I had on Thursday will make the pain ease.
dr 8/70
, it's not bad, I just can't sit because of the locAt the moment
oh, dear, didn't know you were going through such a thing, ruby - I hope it helps, too.
sorry, the pc garbled that. The location of the problem prevents me from sitting.
Right now, I'm worried about Rufie, who won't come downstairs
ouch. Well, gentle (((hugs))) to you
poor doggie, upset about something?
Yesterday, he wouldn't leave my side
rime
sorry
Dogs are something else - our son just got out of jail after six months, now his dog won't leave the front door area when son's not in the house. Not even to eat or drink. Dog had previously more or less given up hope and was acting more normal finally, but not now.
guessing the dog's afraid he'll miss a chance to see our son.
aaahh bless - their loyalty and love is awesome
I hope it's just too many comings and goings -- his sisted (Raffie) was gone all day Wed for grooming and I was gone much of Thurs
fire
no more, I'llstop "taking"
Dogs can act out of character when confronted with scenarios it is not used to. I remember one time when my sister went on holiday but could not take their dog. I went round many time a day and took it for walks and play with it also just sat with her. When my sister came home to the house the dog did not greet them just turned around and sat opposite way to them. Took a few days before flo was back to her normal self.
Hello zzoozz. I hope that's it.
I am convinced, Ruby. You will have your Rufie back to normal in no time!
((zzoozz))
I am only 14 words into this grid and already I am not liking it.
((Ruby)) You keep your chin up. You have done it before and I know you can do it again :-)
I hear you are going through another heat wave in Europe. It is supposed to get warm here in the next few days!
I Don't mind tye heat so much -- anything s better than winter
Oh you are so right I hate hate hate Winter!
fumer
oops sorry
and here, without heat!
Thankfully I got the U and E the wrong way round!
Are your flowers still looking good, Ruby? Also are you goint to have a bumper crop of figs this year?
I can't walk into the garden, but the flowers are still splendid. The figs, however, are large and green but aren't ripening. This happened once before and they just fell off.
Shame about the figs although there is still plenty of time I suppose.
At the oment, there are 6 or 7 ifferent roses (maybe ore, but that's allI can see from Inside), spirea, arum, geraniums, lavender, perovskia, and more, all in my limited color range
I watched a little bit of Le Tour De France last night. Not had much time to be able to watch it this year. They are into the mountains today so I will try and set some time to watch some of it!
On a good year, they ripen in June and then again in Sept
Hope some of the scent wafts into your home, Ruby!
Also, second flowering of wisteria,
Good thing with flowers they keep on giving!
How is your little Robin bird, Ruby. Does it still visit?
And the fish are thriving. The evening husekeeper feeds thepm and they greet her. There are also water lilies and Japanese iris in the pond
The heron comes every day for his lunch, flies away with a large fish in his beak
Trust the heron to be a regular visitor lol Still it knows there is a regular supply of food.
The fresh seafood restaurant, "Chez Ruby"
LOL
I suppose the heron is keeping the pond from being over crowded with fish :-)
We started with 23 "feeders" and now there are hundreds, some over a foot long
Wow! that is big!
My parents used to keep Koi carp and they would grow very big too! And so friendly.
When I run out of money, I can eat the fish
Ha! good grief, Ruby :-)
kidding
??
When I was young my dad brought home a large pike he had caught. it was so horrible and it was so full of bones in each mouthful.
You could make some batter up, Ruby lol
or boil thep and serve with horse radish
Some people like eating the eyes. Yuck!
ditto, 78 words andl'm ru**ing out of charge

hello all
good morning peri..
are you doing a lot better now?
yes I am.
still no driving but hopefully soon
not a big deal about driving as long as you're getting well
I hate to depend on other people. I have always been very independent
but Iam getting better at asking for help

Another day in hell. Temperatures expected to be 105.
molly yes here too with the heat index that is how hot it should feel here today
we're having a mild summer here for once
on the cooler coast
are you closer to the water ruru?
I live in fear of power failure when it gets this hot. I can deal with power failure in the cold, but not the heat.
agreed I also worry about grass getting flames on it if too dry
Power failure when it's cold stinks. Last winter it was in the single numbers and we hovered around the fireplace
a fi4 that is
yes mlf
bichon yikes. how long was the power out at that time?
a day and a half. We have down comforters
and, we used a camp stove
Yes, but I feel like you can get warm easier than you can get cool. Especially when it is 100 degrees.
those have their advantages:)
i feel like you can bundle up but making yourself cooler is a different story
bichon that takes coal right?
If the power had not come on in the next day, we would have had to call a plumber to drain the pipes
there are lots of fun ways to get warm
coal, no wood
that would not have been good
carne
sorry
yes that's good you had coal and didn't have to go outside to get wood
no coal, just wood
ohh sorry
coal stoves not usual here
if my husband and i move i want a real working fireplace and an alternate heating source
wow, I dislike this grid more than yesterday's. hello y'all.
I just have to post that and then I find a bunch of words
Takes grid to therapy group
anyone remember the Happy Days where Potsie had a crush on Joanie?
the name he called himself on his anonymous notes is in the grid. it was another word spelled backwards and every time I see it in the grid I think of that episode and then look for the reverse.
yes, I was a latchkey kid ;-P
hokie i liked this grid at first, but i still have 62 left and its been slow
I remember Joanie had a crush on Potsie and dreamed of marrying him. I don't remember it the other way around. But then, I didn't watch that much Happy Days.
oh, maybe that was it and she called him the name
I think you are right, I will have to do some searching
i remember that as well joanie had a thing for him
She signed her notes dren because everyone called Potsie a ne4
ty molly
that finally got me a 7 letter word
yes, you are correct!
i gtg go will be back...
I did find the episode but could not find Dren anywhere, but that is the word I was talking about. Funny how I remembered it the other way around, but that was a lot of years ago.
omg, just found a 9 on my own
Which one? I have the ne9.
that one
Well that doesn't help! ;)
ru9 is the other
I was toodling around something with that R. Will keep at it...thanks!
yeah, I can't find that one
I am blind. Care to clue, Dan?
ru9 is an alcoholic drink
hmm, so I've got the first 3 letters
ooh
Or a pirate? Thanks!
would never realize that was one unhyphenated word
at least around the Lake Tahoe area
Just early voted for mayor.....and we've switched to paper ballots....woohoo!
we always have paper for early voting and then machines on election day
New for us!
at least I think so. haven't waited for election day in years.
I always early vote!
and it's always the same guy - who looks like Santa - who watches you stick the ballot into the scanner
true story - I got a little motion sick last year voting. they use these round flimsy tables divided in fourths by a cardboard "wall". someone on the other side of me was filling in the dots so hard it was shaking the table. not fun. I may have to ask for a special table next year. lol.
Hee hee
ok, I had to check the def of tu7 because apparently I am an 8th grade boy and it made me giggle.
19 to go. Off to make breakfast. I guess it's actually brunch at this point. TTFN!
Byeeee
d
good morning all -- ty for the ru 9 -- didn't even consider it, thinking it was 2 words
I wonder if enable thinks lawn mower is one word? or back slapper?
is the 4th letter a high point tile for the ru9?
Yes to both, Nan. Type them in and it will say they're not in the puzzle.
no - the ru 7 is another word for a pirate or a person who smuggles a specific beverage
Sam :)
guess I'll head for the list - can't remember what I typed in last night
no idea
pirate drink + one who jogs
ty bzz
I saw the ru6 being another name for a pirate when I googled it
ri7 anybody?
dan edge and flame
outside edge + what a match starts
ty mlf
yw dan
ri6/21
please
what you might call someone with no sense
it is a music term
thank you bzz

er7?
first three of the er5 + first four of the eye drop brand
I must not use enough eye drops. I only know visine
monkeyed it though thank you
only one I could think of was visine, then I remember clear eyes which doesn't help either
and tears II
don't have the er 5 though
I will give a hint if you like
yes please
v or adj - to build something or standing straight
ah - ru's fav word
I could see that
not familiar with us brands of eye drops - another clue?
IDK either
1st 3 of 34 5/12 + a branch of the military is but change the 1st vowel from a an to the last vowel
1st 3 of er 5/12 I mean
I must need more coffee
It isn’t my FAvorite word.
still clueless, but that's okay. going to do a bike ride and then I'll try again later. TTFN.
ty luv
lol - won't ask what is, then
just finished, any clues needed?
no thanks - grats
ty nan
although i did stiffen when i saw that joke
is the er7 er 5/12 about standing straight?
yep.. or as straight as you can be :D
any clues for the mu words?
ce 6/27, pls
ce + sun god + metal
last ne 6 please?
that's the 7, need the 6
begins the same - ends in an expresssion of indecision
sorry, don't get it
ends like wriggley's product you chew
ty nan
The last ne6 is ne and a jumble for what you do on a bike or horse. We have this word a lot. It is a clamworm
if you are clueing more studious -- that is a 7
Thanks for that 7!
oh - the babblet - got it, ty molly
di6/21.......clue please
what you eat every night
are you having fish?
ty........did not see the double consonant
easily done
er 7/36, pls
someone commented that the tu 7 was something an 8 yr old boy would find humerous -- more like tu 4 isn't a word, so I don't know what else it could be
before + beginning of an eyedrop brand
Got it, ty nan
i saw the clue earlier and finally remembered the brand.
tu7 ends like bristling fish in a can. Didn't get the 8 year old boy comment
ty nan
The 8 year old boy did get me thinking of the 1st 4 letters, they like jokes about that.
I don't get the ending though
But, I mean I do get it, but not from the clue :)
The heat is frying my brain.
Like the ending of the cracker that starts salt
tried ending it with a can, but that didn't work
Yes, I got the fish reference.
nan, think of fish you buy in a can
only fish I can think of that begins with tu is turbot
and tuna
No, the ending is only related to the fish
does it begin with an animal's calling card?
Yes
ty - found it -- still don't see what the can has to do with it though
This fish comes in tiny tins.
the lst 5 letters of it anyway
last
sardine nan
I was trying not to give it away...
ty sukee
tosses some sardine cans in Nan's cave
no thanks -- don't want the fish either
holy mackerel
I'm still not half way
fe 6 following the one who uses the epee, please?
fish for eating should be bigger than the palm of my hand and not oily
fe 6 like the anise flavored vegetable with a different ending letter
Ah, ty ruru
i like white fish.. i hope that doesn't make me a fish racist
I am the same ruru, I only like sole, cod, haddock. Although, I don't mind rainbow trout.
Salmon, my favorite
And I'm all for the halibut too. Oh, and Salmon :)
i cannot eat salmon.. too fishy for me
I like fish, I don't like seafood
I like steelhead trout much better than salmon -- not as oily and fishy tasting
I don't scallops, octopus, squid, too chewy
i like all three of those
One fish I will never eat is talapia.
scallops, yes, also shrimp and lobster --- and more lobster
oh and crab
don't eat talapia only because I have seen the river where it is farmed!
My ancestors on both sides were fishers, but I don't like lobster, shrimp, clams, you name it.
mu please? -- don't have any of them
I don't have any yet
Ha, just found a mu 6/24...the name of a brand of eye drops, the full name :)
ty sukee - didn't think to try that
ta 7/32, I tried tacrine, but it wasn't accepted
mu + delete is one of the 5's
anyone have the first mu 5?
ta 7 = more late
ty nan
1 mu and 5 x re left -- not seeing anything - back later
got the ru 9 on the first time
The ending of a cracker that starts with salt didn't work? No saltines in Canada?
have a MU5/16 that rhymes with AR4
didn't see that clue, molly -- we don't call them saltines though, call them soda crackers
have that one, ty mtl
ok...will look some more...
got it -- dirt mixed with water + sun god
ahh got another MU5 - wet earth + egyptian sun god
^5 mtl
hagd everyone :)
salut nan
They are soda crackers Nan. I guess the brand name Saltine doesn't sell in Canada. They are pretty famous here. Sorry for the bum clue.
saltine sounds kind-a ritz-y
here, they're called premium plus crackers (with or without salted tops) - the packaging, compared to saltines, is nearly identical
i think our boxes say premium too.. but they say saltines
not to cause a pandasodium around here or anything
hunting for the fe6/30 that is after the sword fighter
never mind, peri'ed it
and as an aside, i described those crackers to my husband, who unlike me, grew up in canada (ontario) and has lived in alberta for over 30 years. he said, 'saltines?' so maybe it's a regional thing.
we always called them soda crackers
*Note to self: Don't use a Saltines reference in clues anymore
In NYC we always called them saltines
ri 7/44, pls
Edge + heated blaze. That one was easy for me. I just followed the letters.
ty Molly, weird one

re 7/32, pls

got it, fw and ty
Finally found the ne9 - while eating one of its relatives!
iif there's a pericardium, why isn't there a cardium?
From Dictionary.com: "a combining form occurring in compounds that denote tissue or organs associated with the heart, as specified by the initial element: myocardium; pericardium."
that was a rhetorical question. )
Oh, ok
There is, however, a ce6.27. Morning Owl.
hi lynn . yes, i was happy to find that and not waste the ending
this was an easy grid until I tried to find all the words I couldn't find
