something for the sea bird to eat, I suppose?
well I don't have any 7's or 8's yet
bullwinkle
the 8's are all "real" words
I am stopping with 1075 points & 90 words. Later gaters!
50 for tomorrow -- good night :)
good morning babblers
found a snowman
cooee and g'day dear sprite. lovely to see you here. XOXOXOXOXOX
*hugs rose* Hello dear friend :) Good to see you here as well. Did you survive my email? LOL
sure did. lots of catching up done. ;-)
:D
easy grid today
it's a lovely grid. every thing flowed well.
sure does
any babble news I missed?
california has just been through the most awful wildfires. lots of babblers were without power for days.
my prayers for them all
lickety's server threw a tantrum and wouldn't let him post his clues list. that was fun...
lolol oh dear. Not sorry to have missed that... the listings in chat must have been through the roof
we were back in the bad ol' days for a while.
yeah...they were.
those were the good old days. When it still took quite a bit of word knowledge to play ;)
hey... it still takes a lot of word knowledge nowadays. it's mind boggling so4 of the words we are supposed to pull out of a hat...loll
lol true. Our beloved babblets. And some pretty dumb comparatives. But still. Word stats, second letter stats, and all the clueing... it is a LOT easier nowadays.
i mean for example qursh for pete's sake! like i've got a purse full of the just in case...
oh those kinds I love. Such a good thing, to stretch our minds. Because we think there are NO words that start QU that don't have another vowel after that... and now we know there are. Same with MN, PT, JB words... absolutely lovely
didn't they clue in the early days? if someone asked?
only with extremely difficult words. Everthing that took away from the challenge was frowned upon
good grief! glad i didn't play then. i would have lost all heart and then we wouldn't have met.
the chat was not as much fun in those days, though. Not much fooling around together
Hey!! Sprite!! Hugs!! Hugs to Rose too!
down to three. I actually started the grid with 2 biggies, lol... that almost never happens
hey kam honey. xoxoxox
fireflies. That was real easy. And yet fun :) Such great words.
WTG SPRITE !!!!
Sprite's in and out! I just popped in a couple of minutes ago.
honey, I gotta go already, so sorry. Lovely to have seen you. *hugs* and lots of love.
hi Kam :) *hug*
awwww. okay then. {{{hugs}}}} bestie. hope you have a quieter day for once.
FWs...last word ro 7.
WTG DIZGRANNIE!!!
went to the store today to get an 8 lb bag of potatoes amd a can of cranberry sauce.. wjp klnow those two items would come to two huindred an twelve dollars and some change?????????????
good thing walter stuffed my wallet with cash
OK, what else did you get?
FW
well..... a few things fell into the cart like 8 kinds of cheese an every vgetable know to woman-fresh vegetables of course and 20 pounds of catfood ( for the cats that we dont own... walter feeds every stray an a opossum and countless birds and a few aimals i can t even identify
Well, that explains the bill, lol! Bless Walter, but you have to make sure he keeps the possums out of the garage if you have your laundry area there, lol!
We have a feed store that has better prices than the "local" grocery. I put local in quotes cuz it's 7.5 miles away.
i do velieve a possum sleeps in there with a stray cat - one that has no tail... the sleep together in the bed he made them which i do think has my heating pad that i have been missing...............
LOL! Critters! We had a possum invasion a couple of months ago. I think it's all cleaned up, and the garage door now closes...no thanks to hubby! I moved all his junk out of the way. Sorry, it was his tool boxes, but to me it was junk in the way, lolol!
Just checked, Ruru isn't online right now, so we're safe...unless he reads this when he gets up, hahaha
i understand, i have seen 2 f the stray vats and a possum and a racoon and a deer all eating in the back yard at the same time gwith squirrels popping and birds swooping down for tidbts
My worthless dog sleeps while wildlife invades what used to be our garden. Had a German Shepherd, she was great about keeping deer away. When she passed, I was left with my Springer Spaniel. I have a crazy thing about Spaniels, and they're not good for much except companionship and lots of love! I'm going to find one more word and go to bed. 16 left...want to get it to 15 and hit the hay! Have a great night!

Hi Kim sorry i missed you yesterday
Good Morning, Babs.
Hi Bea.
Hope you are doing well, scrabs.
I slept great--I don't even recall waking up during the night. I like those nights.

I usually get up to pee at least once.

My friend that I do girls weekends with gets up all night. I don't how you could function during the day. like right now I got a solid 8 hours and am barely getting by this morning.
one time she went to the bathroom 5 times before I ever fell asleep
After salt intake and fluid retention a diuresis occurs.
she is also on that bp med that makes you pee. hctz or something?
but we are great roommates on road trips because she doesn't wake me up
all the women I know have that problem, with or without meds
I think you are Younger, carla
Yes, that is an anti-hypertensive med (diuretic.)
teer
I think I am younger than most here, yes. I'm sure it will get worse, as does everything.
How are you doing, ruby?
I think it becomes a problem after age 50 or so
Having a tough time, but I'm still here. Thank you for asking
we used to laugh at our friend that was 2 years older when she couldn't read anything, then overnight around the time I turned 40 I suddenly couldn't read a medicine bottle and was like, what's going on here??
We are glad you are still here too. Keep up the good fight.
we're glad you're still here, ruby!
My problem is that I take so many different pills, mose than 20/day, and drink water with each one………….
Aha
thank you ladies; I appreciate every day
Everyone should.

I had lot of new flowers plants in the garden to help me get through the winter

Bye, carla
Have fun!
I get to take mom to get her second shingles shot. That's what she gets for making me work so hard this weekend. =)
I need that vaccine too.
My friend Nadia just arrived with a kebab, Added wood to the fire, checked my mail and is fixing the TV
I am very fortunate!

et6? is this an everyday word?
not in my world - do you need a clue?
yes please
et + anagram of tommy james and the shondells (or billy idol song) - here she comes now, sayin' **** ****
got it, thanks!
was a toughie
and thanks for adding billy idol because I didn't know who originally did it
I think we played that in marching band
have you come to terms with serpentine?
Ha! it's like 2 points forward, 12 points back. sometimes I feel like I'm doing well, typing the entire time without stopping and it's minus 8. I do get a little obsessed with watching the sliding points at the bottom.
will also take any clues for the o7's. am not seeing those.
oe + the end of a type of wool, or woolen material
oh yay, i found the lizard!
oe + end of the flying out of space thing that you wouldn't want to hit the earth (minus one letter)
os adj form having to do with bone
ok, got the os. thanks, all.
the only type of wool I can think of is merino. will keep trying.
think of all the re- and de- long words. Same ending.
oops, not the de- words
Sorry lol :-)
i looked it up, there's 11 different types of wool and only 2 share a common ending
oe+constenant+ending of RE8
It's not a type of wool so much as a type of process used to create woolen fabric.
well, I looked it up. would have never have gotten that.
nor I. Nor the fy words either.
but thanks everyone!
that was for fireworks!
I finally got the fy words by trying everything
congrats!
Yay carla! I'm down to my final 8
and I still can't get 2 letters to get nbt
make that 3, sigh
Don't feel bad... I finally got the first ne4,4 and can't believe how dumb I feel
don't have that one, ha
ah, there it is, i think. it's a ne4,4 anyway
There are two ne4/4 one is plural the other is double consonant.
sweet!
besides, I'm still glowing from last week, no grid can bring me down
that's the spirit!
I am pleased to hear that, Pippingeek!
It's easy not to feel dumb when you just got accepted to school!
Indeed! Congrats!
congrats!
I'm super excited, part of me wishes I could wear a sign, it's fun having people say nice things at you!
LOL love the idea of the sign "I GOT IN!! ASK ME WHERE"
I should put that in my profile
welki, I just got 3rd in a serpentine round - my highest finish. +14. finally made it back to over 1000.
how many oe words are there? i have one oe7

Peri does another "nm" and exits.
Hi all. Does anyone have a clue for the et6?
nm. Found it. I am filling in for Peri now that she has left.
Good Evening! I'm glad someone is filling in for peri tonight!
that 4th row lower "e" has me stumped; any clues so I can get NBT please?
I could teach you something about ed5/22.
en7,36 would be your last one.
ey7,36 is disgusting to look for.
Any clues for the fy5?
It has a dble cons. in it
thanks Nef.
And thanks for the clues; I can stare & stare at a grid & can't see a thing; but a simple clue shows which way to look. :-)
thanks wht
And now I have fireworks.
YAY, wht!!! WTG!!!
Does anyone need clues before I go?
Not now, wht. You gave me a lot more to work with than just those 3 clues. Thanks for asking (and the clues)
hello to everyone still here :)
fy 5-6 please?
nm - found them
hi nan. I was distracted by arguing with my grandson
teenager?
(why do kids have to think a house is a gym? --He's 10)
oh -- good luck! I have the same problem -- our kids don't seem to be as concious of respecting other's belongings as our parents were ( does that place the blame squarely on our shoulders?)
We didn't let our kids roughhouse inside; I don't understand why the grandson thinks he can
we didn't either, but apparently our kids don't see anything wrong with it
oe 7 please?
Our son is a single dad; they have been living with us for 3 years (since my husband was so sick & I needed help getting him up when he fell). I do let our grandson do his TaeKwonDo forms in the family room; but tonight he brought some big stuffed animals up & thought he could start punching them & jumping on chairs& then on top of them.
THAT is Not allowed!
Sorry, I don't have it yet (but will look)
endo
no -- mine think they should be able to walk all over the furniture and jump from chair to chair, sit or stand on the chesterfield/chair backs etc --- that is not allowed either
oops sorry
start on the upper oe, nan, & stay in those 2 columns (3 different cons. in the middle, if that makes sense)
messed up spelling of metal, then guys name
ty nef
glad you got it; my clues either suck or else tell too much
(I should go listen in to him "tattling" one. BRB)
NM, he saw me & shut up now. :-/
2 left the sy 7 and the 7/36 --- all clues gratefully received
* ro 7/36
I don't have the ro7/36; but the sy 7 is a plan or animal that benefits from working/living together with another.
ends in charged particle. need ro7 too.
(use the atom word for the ending
ty nef -- I know I typed that in a long time ago - guess it didn't take and my memory isn't what it used to be
r** Rogers + sounds like what you do to a cake batter.
change vowell.
ty mixi -- *!*~*!*
have a great evening, everyone
Thanks, mixi!
And WTG, nan!!! YAY!!!
2 left.
congrats nan
I haven't played Babble for a while; I'm slower that usual
os7?
nm. fw.
YAY, mixi!!! WTG!!! Sorry I couldn't help with that one
(I just got it myself)
Hello Nef. I hope you are keeping well.
Hi, Bugs; I'm trying. How are you?
doing pretty well now but I don't have kids living with me. They come to visit and, as much as I love having them here, it is always more peaceful when they go home again. I feel for you having a bouncy boy in the house.
I try to ignore what they do in the basement (where my son pretty much lives & works; but grandson has his room up on the main floor with our bedroom); but the main floor is another story. He's normally a good kid; not sure why he thought he could try to crash around up here tonight
sometimes they just forget.
We will be movong *sometime* in the next year into a senior living building. I told my son that he can't move out just yet; I'm having a knee replacement Dec. 31st & will need his help for a little while after that.
Good luck with the new knee. Everyone I ever met who had one done is pleased with the result but the first coupld of weeks are tricky learning how to get around differently.
My sister is having a hip replacement in a couple of weeks and she didn't ever know she had arthritis! I will be her helper and I am bit worried about that. I don't have any nursing training.
I had my left 1 done 4 years ago; this is my right one. I'm not excited about those first couple weeks post-op; but then it will be okay.
I had my right hip replaced about 98-9 years ago; it's a piece of cake compared to the knee.
I am sure you will be more comfortable in the senior iving place so you can have some help.
That is good to know! We both thought a hip would be worse.
You won't need much in the line of nursing skills; my older sister had her hip replaced this summer but forgot about proper body movement & dislocated it twice; so she needed another surgery.
sounds painful
I am worried about how cooperative she will be about following orders. Good to know I can tell her that it won't speed up her recovery to ignore the rules but could make her have it again. She kind of prides herself on breaking rules. . .
hey ru
Just remind her to follow the surgeons' and Physical therapist directions to a tee. Don't let her cross her legs o (or ankles); she may have trouble getting her shoes tied, and she shouldn't bend from the waist to pick something up from the floor ofr bottom cupboard shelf.
she will have to follow the doctor's orders bugs.. it will help her
hi too
Hi ru
hi nef
i'm guessing break dancing is out for your sister for a bit now bugs
We both have to go to an afternoon session on what the rules will be before she has it done and I think that will help us both a lot. We can get free equipment here from the Red Cross but I think body position is what she will have to pay attention to the most.
it's a long recovery.. are you up for this?
I couldn't believe that my sister could be so silly as to bend from the waist to dig out a big kettle from the bottom of her cabinets; I said that why didn't she bend from the knees?? She "forgot" she said
Could be ruru but don't challenge her or she will do her best
*note to self .. sign up bugs for help when you get your knee surgery *
She probably did forget but you would thing the discomfort would remind her. I am taking her a set of pincher things to use when things are out of reach. I don't want to argue with her.
You would be brave to put me on the roster, ru :)
When I had my hip replaced, I had to take DH's Aunt in to the hospital for a blood transfusion. (A friend drove, but she thought I wouldn't take her so she didn't need itA) It was less than a week after I had my surgery; and I was on crutches; but it wasn't bad at all.
haha
wow nef.. i've had some friends have hip surgeries and it took them longer than that to begin to get around
the grabber (or picker upper) is great; and she may need a sock thing too.
Really, ru? That is interesting! (I'd hate to see them when they get their knees done!)
You are SO much more kind than we are Nef. I can't see my sister going out for someone else that soon after surgery but I am wondering how soon she should be doing stair. They have a cathedral entrance to their house so she will have to do them straight away on coming home but then I hope to keep her on the main floor for a little while. If she falls down the stairs because she pushed it, I am going home.
LOL, Bugs! If she has that many stairs to get into her house you should tell them that at the pre-op meeting so they know that up front. Has she been doing any pre-op exercises ?
I will ask about a sock thing. She does have a husband who could help with socks but he has a head injury and is not dependable.
Frank's Aunt was dying of terminal heart failure and was living with us at that time because her condo had a fire in it and she couldn't live there. We all loved her; so we took care of her.
if she falls down the stairs bugs.. practice your Bette Davis impersonation
I have no idea about preop exercises. I just know she is still doing everything she wants to do in spite of the pain and she is pretty active. The doctor said she shuld heal well becaue she is in good health and is not frail in any way. To not even know that the pain she was dealing with every day wasn't normal kind of shows how determined she is to do what she wants.
Oooh, such a good idea ru
My sisters' hubby is stuck helping her with tying her shoes until Christmas; her surgery was in June.
I just got slip on shoes when I broke my ankle.
i've never broken any bones other than cracking a rib
Yeah; that sounds like my sister too. She's the oldest; and knows it all, and thought she was in good physical shape too (but she's always been overweight).
ribs hurt because you can't just stop breathing until they heal
i held my breath a lot
:D
time for me to crawl into bed with a book
You nailed it Nef. SHe is the oldest and even more bossy than me. She says she feels calmer knowing I am coming so maybe we will just argue like we did when we were kids and all will be well in the end. We both have the ability to find humour in some pretty un-funny happenings too
nice seeing you bugs and nef
You definitely didn't cough much I bet!
Do you have a good book, ru? I am searching for some good reads
that i surely didn't
Nice seeing you too, ru. You leaving already?
i'm reading the Ronan Farrow book on the creepy Jeffrey Weinstein saga
What do you like to read, Bugs?
i love the book "Boys in the Boat" Bugs.. it is a great book
Thanks for the suggestion but I won't read that. I don't want to encourage creeps but I am proud of Ronan
he's a pretty good writer that kid
I like all kinds of stuf Nef but novels hold the most interest now that I don't have to keep up with professional development. I will search that one up. Happy reading.
I've been on a john Grisham kick lately; I think any of his books are good.
I like him too, Nef.
I have joined a book club where they keep picking to read books about India.
Behind the Beautiful Forevers was interesting because she wrote about actual events and places but in the form of a novel. Such a different culture.
Terry Pratchett and Anne Lamott are books I read again and again for comfort.
I haven't read any of those; I loved Tony Hillerman but I've read all of his books
He write the Navajo ones, right? They are good. Terry Pratchett books are hilarious.
(I'm never been into romance stories; I do read a lot of biographies and autobiographies in the winter, for some reason)
I am not one for romance either but I haven
t read a good biography in a while
I'll definitely have to try Terry Prachett then on your recommendation!
I did enjoy Hillbilly Elegy which was part autobiography and part sociological study of the Ulster-Scots in Appalachia. Fascinating
I'm terrible with authors' names when I read a good biography; and I kind of geek out on books about Bertrand Russell and Stephen Hawkings and Churchill.
That sounds interesting; I'll look for that
Churchill? I never would have guessed that one
Weird, right?
I have a book on him I have had since Grade 8 that I still haven't read. I should send it to you :)
I'm sure that book for a young person wouldn't go into some of the stranger habits he had.
I need to remember to type in the right box for chat. I also read a biography about his mother, Jenny Churchill; that one was quite interesting too.
It is pretty old and none of the odd stuff was public yet. The story is that when he died some old lady was so sad that she said she would give a book prize to the student who wrote the best essay/research paper on him. In the whole school not one kid entered the contest. We were teenage boomers not looking to the past. The principal was so upset about our callousness she ordered the whole school to write one. I did not do any research but, as my mother said "You always were good at the bullshit" and I won. I was so embarrassed. My sister (same one) nearly beat me up for embarassing her by winning it. So I have never given it away but never read it either.
I always felt badly for Jenny. Women in those times had a hard road, even when they were upper crust. Their men were so disrespectful to them.
Oh, my! So it was an unearned prize; maybe that's why you never read it?
Exactly
I must concentrate on looking for word or I will be here all night. Good talking to you though. Take care
We are trying to de-clutter here; so our 10 foot long wall of books is difficult to get rid of some of them.
I'm in the same boat! I'll stop chatting and start finding words again if you will! ;-)
(((nef))) (((bugs)))
Hi stid!
Stid!! How nice to see you here after all this time. It is almost like Old Home Week
I hope you and all your family are well.
Nef, Bugs, Terry Pratchett is my favorite!!! If you are still here. Sam Vimes, --nobby has the best line in any book I've ever read ("I've only been a woman for ten minutes and already I hate you all!" (his male companions)
Hi Round Barn! How are you?
And hi Stid, too. I lurk all the time and watch you all. Jackie--I mean Round Barn. (Rasta is my daughter)
Vimes was always my favourite character. The more he developed, the more I loved him. I also loved the Wee Free Men and the Wee Hag. She was so on point!
Hi Nef--I want to get to Mlps in Jan or Feb--my cousins can't sell their house, the one you know. I miss them but am still archiving for the Uof Wis. If you want any books, I'm giing them away. For
p.s. I'm a good writer but a bad publicist. So I will just give them away at this point! I watch others ills but am ok--have two faculty funerals this week though and have to speak at both funerals.
I'm having a knee replacement Dec. 31st; not sure I'd be up for a visit in January; but let me know when you will be heading this way. I can't imagine why they can't sell their house! It's beautiful and in a lovely location!
What kind of books are you giving away? Any good topics?
I have her 4 books on stories of the Round Barn that her family owned, Bugs. I really enjoyed them; and the stories are great for short reads
Bugs, they are written up in the Congressional Record. Look at my websites, jacqueline-jackson, and the other is roundbarnstories. All my o.p. books are reasonable on the used book market, but Paleface Redskins is selling for
You know, RB; I might buy a few more; let me think about it & I'll get back to you soon.
Finally done. The grid was a grind but the chat was lovely. Night all.
Niters, Bugs
500 dollars! (what did I do there?) JJ I've made up special copies for people who write me asking for it. Nef, my cousins house has a great location, but the kitchen and baths are too small--it is big and on 5 levels. it's right on the Missippi.
Nef, you can have them for postage! Goodnight. JJ
I remember that it had several levels on the main floor; but heck! *Everyone* remodels when they buy a house these days; right?
True--they will have to come down in price. Most moderns don't want that big a house--unless they are trumpites--
LOL!!! IDK; there's a lot of people still buying big houses (according to the paper every Sunday!)
Bedtime. I watch you, Nef, so know yourgrandson is with you, etc. A good Pratchett to start on is "Monstrous Regiment". Skip his first two and pick them up later. Hew was England's best seller till Harry Poter. And his books are much better. Don't read his last two either--he had early onset Alzheimers, so they aren't as good--almost echoes of the great Sir Terry.
Good night.
I'll definitely get it & read it; with 2 people recommending him, he must be good!
good night, Jackie. Take care of yourself!
