12:17 am

12:17 am

12:18 am

i am in australia......in sydney now. terrible fire issues and no water here.

12:18 am

I think California has had enough snow to put out the fires

12:18 am

12:18 am

Wish we'd get some rain up here.

12:26 am

I feel for LIckety - we had lots of outages in Northern Calif last month - "safety shutdowns." Annoying, but I would rather run a generator than have their old lines fall and start new fires.

hello babblers

8:02 am

hi, owl

morning, welk. you're up early.

8:03 am

already 7, i've been up for hours (old habits)

yes, i was just out picking up branches, but it's a tad nippy. will finish cleaning the leaves the high winds blew in so christmas lights can go up.

spent the day home sick yesterday. a wise decision but i feel a bit better and will foolishly rush out and try to do stuff.

8:06 am

here, if you didn't get your lights up a few weeks ago, you're likely to turn into a popsicle if you try now - lots of snow, windy and right now, -3F

i'll bet. when it was 58 last week, the ladder were up all over the place.

8:07 am

take another day, owl - crazy to out on "black friday"

my decorations do not require climbing.

well it's the home depot sale. i cannot resist. usually go with my brother around 6:00 AM

and they serve cocoa and cookies!

8:10 am

the only thing i bought on sale was a very small keurig - on weekends, i grind my own coffee and make a pot, but i usually want a cup before the coffee's ready

that's funny

8:14 am

yeah - the depth of instant gratification :D

trying out new slipeers - am i the only person in the world who hates memory foam? i don't feel stable, too much padding.

8:20 am

heh - you're talking to someone who's unstable most of the time, at least on my feet

oh yes. how are you coming along?

8:25 am

as good as it's going to get, i think - which is a whole lot better than it was when i started. all in all, happy with the results

that's good.

did you celebrate yesterday?

8:28 am

not this year, just watched some football

perhaps you are well enough to brave the balmy weather in the us? ;)

8:33 am

you're right, it's past time. difficult when the grandkids are in school and parents work, but am trying to work something out after the first of the year

Wester NJ is building up so fast! I was in sparta and in one year i hardly recognized the route to the fairgrounds

8:37 am

this game must know its a holiday een though I don't have anything to do.

my brother's inlaw nieces and nephews have all bought homes there.

8:38 am

no kidding, in sussex county? when i lived there, it was pretty rural

8:39 am

No holiday here and I miss it

still is, but - and i cannot remember the name of the route from 287 to agusta- there were shopping centers!

hi ruby!

8:40 am

the fair was something to look forward to - all the kids entered 4H exhibitions, the adults entered foods, artwork. funniest thing was the annual crowning of the "Swine Queen"

8:40 am

route 206 i think

my cousin was looking at an over 55 community there and said the taxes were comparable to bergen county. bulding infrastructure for all those kids.

8:41 am

'Swine queen' LOLOL

8:41 am

i get you, ruby - no holiday here, either. i've thought of trying to find other americans and have a dinner

accompanied byt the boss hog?

8:42 am

oh lordy, ruby, it was so funny - "And this year's Swine Queen....." And the acceptance speeches!! LOLOL

8:42 am

We did it here, the firt few years, but without other Americans, it was too hard to explain to Fr people and almost impossible to get a big turkey

8:42 am

but the fair was wonderful, a true agricultural-oriented county fair

8:42 am

oink oinj

8:43 am

i have one daughter who still tries to go every year

8:44 am

when i lived in the states, i hosted thanksgiving every year - and it was open to all, anyone who had no family/friends was welcome into my home

8:45 am

Hi kids.

8:45 am

We would order US turkeys from a Swiss butcher and they'd arrive by airmail

8:45 am

hi, scrabbs

i go up there for the crawfish festival

8:46 am

Harder still was finding fresh cranberries

hi scrabs. how did dinner go?

8:46 am

hi scrabs

8:47 am

can't find canned yams here - yeah fresh is best, but there's something about the canned ones. tradition, maybe

8:47 am

My mother and brother were very pleased with the meal. My hands still smell of onion after dicing a large red onion.

8:47 am

rub something made from stainless steel between them - will neutralize the odor

8:48 am

Aha. BRB.

8:48 am

works for garlic, too

8:49 am

It worked! TY.

8:50 am

i am a veritable bank of useless information :D

8:50 am

But this was useful!

8:50 am

fair enough *lol*

8:50 am

not so useless

8:51 am

ruby, when you lived in binghamton, did you go to pat mitchell's for ice cream?

8:51 am

I am not liking this grid.

8:52 am

Careful, Owl.

oh heck- just looked ath the clock - up since 7:15 and all i have to shoe for it is a bag of branches.

8:53 am

Falling is the worst!

breaking in new slippers is a pain.

8:53 am

time to go play with the dog - later, all! nice chat this morning!

i wonder why these became slipeery? hardened from short exposure to cold surface?

8:54 am

Enjoy, welki.

bye, welk

8:54 am

My dogs are too wet and stinky to touch

scrabbler, i chose to stay home to recuperate. bes nights sleep in a week.

8:55 am

bye welki

8:57 am

We (me and my sister) watched Bills vs Dallas at my cousin's house and had a blast.

i did housework and read, then watched a movie. it was peaceful.

9:00 am

Good.

9:01 am

We went to daughters house. Besides us and her, everybdy's Ukrainian. We had borscht, perogies, turkey, etc.

9:01 am

Interesting blend.

yum. we would have a pasta course before the turkey.. do you, scrabbler?

i am the designated lasagne cook now that my neice wants to revive the tradition.

9:04 am

No, I did not make pasta. In the old days with my Italian grandmother, yes, we had pasta, and fried chicken covered with tomato sauce. She made 2 roasted chickens instead of a turkey. She stuffed the chickens with a parmesan stuffing.

interestin. and fruit and nuts afterwards?

9:05 am

God Bless America

9:05 am

Bye everybody

9:05 am

Roasted chestnuts. A bowl of mixed nuts to crack and eat.

9:06 am

Bye, Ruby.

9:06 am

There were also Nigerian donuts

9:06 am

Tangerines.

9:07 am

Interesting, bichon. I just read about those--new to me.

9:07 am

Neighbor is Nigerian

yes, i think i still have my grandmother's old nutcraker. and dried figs.

9:08 am

With a recently-acquired nut allergy, can I still eat chestnuts?

my dad loved chestnuts.

scrabbler,my doctor gives me a printed "summary of isit" sheet which has my history and meds but never gives a diagnosis. nor did i receive one verbally. what's up with that?

9:11 am

Chestnuts are tree nuts, so if you are allergic to tree nuts, avoid chestnuts. But peanuts are not nuts, they are legumes.

9:12 am

Owl, maybe they do not want you to be upset with some diagnoses?

9:13 am

e.g. some parents take exception to the diagnosis of obesity for their big children.

9:14 am

be6/30.....clue please

it's been hard since my longtime doctor left. this is a routine thing happend every visit but in checking my on line insurance records i saw a diagnosis that did not fit

9:33 am

If Babble's dictionary came out of the South, "owen" would be a word. "Ah owen that there howse." ha

9:56 am

Hmmmm! I am from the south, Tennessee to be exact, and I do not know anyone who would say "Ah owen that house."

9:57 am

sounds like Georgia to me...

9:57 am

or that there

10:01 am

what part of TN? and yes, I agree with you, never heard it said that way.

10:03 am

I live as far west in middle TN as you can go. I live in a small town on the TN River and Kentucky Lake.

10:08 am

nice. I grew up in the Va. part of NETN. ;-)

10:16 am

I'm in TN, too!

10:19 am

isn't une in TN too?

10:20 am

which part are you in redshoes? Une is in Nashville area I think.

10:21 am

I love East TN. My sister and BIL live in Williamsburg. I love visiting theret. So much history and that was my major in High School, but Accounting in College. East Kentucky is beautiful also. I love mountains and water and horse country.

10:21 am

I'm just kidding. Picking on the stereotypical "hick" -- I don't hear much, but when I do, boy howdy, do I.

10:23 am

I'm in Nashville. I'm "old Nashville" - as in, I moved here long before Nashville became an "it" city. Just had my 18 year anniversary in September.

10:27 am

East TN is very pretty. I like the mountains.

10:28 am

I didn't realize Une was in this area! I'll have to keep that in mind.

10:36 am

2 cents but I'm in MS and have never heard anyone pronounce own but I have heard more like 'I ern it' once or twice, lol.

10:38 am

Where is the dang edit button? LOL! MISpronounce own.

12:58 pm

so sorry he's going through this!

1:03 pm

He is one of just 16,000 homes without power ! NSW and Queensland are having a horrific time this last month or so. Drought, bad bad fires as well as the occasional severe storm. And it's not even Summer yet.

1:06 pm

I read about it. We have had catastropic fires in Montana, and sometimes people are without power for weeks. But, we are so sparsely populated that it's not on the same scale.

1:06 pm

The worst part is disposing of all the smelly freezers! They can never be cleaned well enough for re-use.
