-3C here - pretty cold

2:28 am

housekeeper has made a fire, but it requires that I get up, dress and descend - lots of work! LOL

2:28 am

oh lord Diz - we do so pray for rain for Oz - big rain

2:32 am

Diz, You're obviously safe because you're online, but is your home safe? I can't even imagine what you folks are dealing with, and I'm in California where we had record breaking fires the past 3 years. It's so sad to see. I'm happy we could send some of our firefighters over to help, but we need them here too. Australia is in my heart and prayers.

2:35 am

Ruby, enjoy your warm nest! I hate cold mornings! Sounds too cold for me where you are...I hope your housekeeper helps you get downstairs to to sit by the fire!

2:36 am

Meds are seemingly working and pain is better than usual

Just stay comfy, Ruby. You're lucky to have pain meds and a nice fire for warmth. We all forget to move our cursors to the word box, you're not alone!

2:39 am

Kamanjah, we are safe, twas a bit of a worry earlier today cos of a close fire, but thankfully it turned. we are all so devestated with what has happened

2:45 am

I'm glad it turned away from you, diz. I hate wildfires. It's almost odd to me that in Calif they're brushfires, and in Oz they're bushfires...same devastation. Stay as safe as possible, and be ready to evac if necessary. Most of our kids have had to evac a couple of times the past few years. It's terribly frightening to live thru big fires. Hubs lost his house, and the house where his daughter grew up, and the rest of the family lost their trailers, cabins...everything went. I think our "Grandmother Oak" isn't going to come back. She's still trying, but more of her limbs are dying every year. The fire that took the family property was in 2016. Only one neighbor has been able to rebuild so far.

3:13 am

7:40 am

I know molly that's true

7:42 am

The PB is kind of a thing of the past, though. No one seems to care if you post words in the grid, give easy clues or clue with more than the first two letters...like we4 + wa4 for westward, which gives four letters of an eight letter word.

wow, the aquarium fish just jumped right out at me. and hi.

7:44 am

Yes, that obvious aquarium fish is for Bea. : D

7:44 am

molly so happy the Patriots lost last night

hallelujah

7:45 am

agreed

7:45 am

and of course Brady isn't retiring yet

I had ear plugs in and just happened to look at the tv and saw "touchdown" and Brady walking off the field so I thought it was them, then I noticed the Titans celebrating. :D

7:48 am

yeah I saw them on the field congratulating and such wasn't sure who won as most games Brady had one this season he pouted

7:51 am

2nd column e stats pls?

bottom?

7:51 am

Way to go Tennessee. I'm so tired of the cheating Patriots.

7:51 am

me too

7:52 am

yes hokie sorry

everybody is except for the people who are patriots fans for no reason

(ie no connection to NE)

and I guess the bad people who are fans for a reason

7:53 am

If one of my favorite teams did the things the Patriots have done, I would be ashamed of them.

btw, that was a joke, I actually have some friends that are good people from NE who like the Patriots.

that is a good point, molly

ed 5/12, mlfan

7:55 am

its funny the game is on again and basically, the Titans seem to be doing the things he Patriots do

7:56 am

ty hokie

I did hear the guys in the studio say after the game that the Titans did the Patriots things

did that mean they were cheating?

7:57 am

yes it seems like it but I don't know, in some ways why not as its what the Patriots always do

7:57 am

reserve time on the clock etc. the Titans forced the Patriots to use all their time outs too

OK. I have been living abroad for the last 34 years and wasn't all that up on football back in those days. What happened exactly that you are all about?

in general or last night?

7:58 am

good question hokie

last night, the patriots lost, getting knocked out of super bowl. the reason that is great is they actually had a cheating scandal that didn't really amount to anything plus questionable activities by the owner, etc.

in prior seasons were those things

8:01 am

Last column e stats pls?

and they've just been dominant with all those things so it's nice they lost

el4

8:01 am

oh duh

8:02 am

that cheating thing makes you think though but they kind of got beaten by their own game

8:03 am

I'm always glad for a "what goes around, comes around" moment.

yep

8:04 am

or karma is a bitch

btw, player girl, I am a casual - not really NFL fan, so someone else may explain it better

8:05 am

does the ae7 begin with ae 4 ae**space?

didn't even know there was one but I'll try

8:06 am

I looked at the list, I only have one ae word

8:06 am

The first 3 letters

8:07 am

champ is it a real word?

8:08 am

ae4/4 is last on the list of ae words, so no

8:08 am

Yes, it's pt of the word before it.

8:08 am

Pats got beaten because Gronk retired and Brady is 42. Forty-two. Nearly 43. Nothing to do with cheating scandals of past seasons. Also Belichick's proteges now all coach other teams and know the Belichick formula inside out so they have good answers for it.

natasha is saying she doesn't believe in karma :D

8:09 am

Not a fan by the way, though I'm a New Englander. But you can't take away from Brady being one of the greatest QBs in history.

8:09 am

natasha that's what I said, titans knew how the Patriots play and beat them at their own game playing

even if not related to the past, it's still nice to see them lose

8:09 am

And every team steals signals. What's going on with the Astros for example.

8:10 am

They all do it, but some of them get caught.

8:10 am

agreed hokie

8:11 am

oh ok those words have been in the grid before

8:11 am

I agree, i'm not a fan of dynasties. Always happy to see the Yankees lose. They've got enough World Series titles.

agreed on that as well

8:11 am

lol natasha

8:11 am

Same with the Pats. Time for someone else to win

8:12 am

Meanwhile, there are so many words in this grid, I just typed some random letters and lo and behold, it's a word!!!

haha

8:13 am

and it was Bilichik that took notes during games this season

8:13 am

natasha I love when that happens

I'm def going to have to go to the list sooner today. just too many to keep track of.

8:13 am

Morning, all...Just starting.

9:29 am

The cartoon was spelled with two words

Is it a cartoon I am likely to have heard of (i.e. either before 1985 or after 1995 and before, say 2001?)

NM - not a cartoon (to my mind) but rather a newspaper comic. Thanks

Which, by the way, now has its own website -check it out!

yes, comic strip

9:33 am

in 6/27, pls

in + what you pay to ride in a taxi

missing 3 8's and 87 other words

9:36 am

bichon: in6 also part of a shoe

9:36 am

and only two squares grayed

9:36 am

hi ruby

I'm missing one 8 and 87 other words - three squares greyed. So not a lot better (technically, no better)

9:37 am

hi peri

I have 3 grayed and 100 left. was going to hit the list when I reached 100 left but I will go through again each tile and see what happens.

9:37 am

116 left and no grey tiles. (I do have gray hair, more than bugs bunny)

I'm very cl5 on several tiles

9:38 am

nbt, nbs

9:39 am

good morning everyone - a whopper :)

yep, it's big

9:40 am

Well I have all the A's grey...That's it...

I have the 3 grayed but 10 left in the other 2. a's tend to be really hard for me.

so I commend you on always getting the a's first (it seems)

9:43 am

I always try the grey the vowels.

9:43 am

i just started and have the r, 0, e and n greyed out

9:43 am

well done Bea missing lots of As here

9:46 am

Yes, still doing what we can there and for school kids on weekends.

peri do you have the aquarium fish?

that is admirable, bea

9:47 am

Thanks, carla.

9:48 am

yes

9:48 am

need one more T but still missing 81 words

9:51 am

feeding kids sounds like a really worthy cause too

9:53 am

You are a good soul, Bea. It disturbs me that while some people are leading high dollar lives, we still have kids going hungry in this country.

9:53 am

Kids and the elderly. Those are the ones I target.

9:54 am

i'm going to volunteer for stuff like that when i retire

9:54 am

I'm thinking of doing something similar, Ru.

9:54 am

do you give only food that you grow in your garden Bea?

9:55 am

I am looking for something like that near me

9:55 am

the city sold her garden peri

9:55 am

Oh I did not know

9:55 am

I do donate food to food pantries and donate clothing to a church thrift store

9:56 am

No, peri. I collect food for the kids out of pocket. Stuff they can eat without cooking or refrigeration.

9:57 am

i'm exhausted from cheering on Tennessee beating the Patriots

9:57 am

what a generous and wonderful thing to do Bea

lol, we talked about how awesome that was earlier

9:57 am

74 left bb

9:57 am

We did donate most of the produce we grew in the garden to local food banks.

9:58 am

Wait Bea, what happened to your garden?

9:59 am

It was only a leased property from the city. They sold it to a property managment company so they could put in a cheap duplex.

10:00 am

That's the short story. =)

10:00 am

Oh, I thought your garden was on your property. It looks like you have a big space.

10:01 am

We do have a large property. Just too many trees to grow anything in the sun.

10:01 am

We have tried...

10:02 am

Sad to hear you lost your garden. You did good things with it. *Thinking nasty thoughts about your city*

10:03 am

well, I am at a standstill with 92 left. that's over 70%, so I am okay with going to the list. :D

10:06 am

wow, carla - struggling to get to half way

10:06 am

you will get there for sure

10:09 am

yes - just passed the mark

10:10 am

spanish words alert! I always forget them.

10:11 am

An I missed the male member...

10:13 am

speaking of the male member - also in the grid ;-)

10:13 am

inb4ruru

10:16 am

Got all the vowels grey...

10:16 am

well done

10:17 am

(shocked look on Face)

10:18 am

but it's always before ruru

10:19 am

wait a sec, was bea talking about the male member already or the spanish male like I originally thought?

10:19 am

I was not referring to the spanish word. =)

10:20 am

missed that the bottom row is a word :-(

10:20 am

oh, then my joke was stupid

10:20 am

it's a member to remember

10:20 am

stupid jokes are allowed hokie.. i do them all the time

10:20 am

Yes, dan, that is now known as Bea's fish.

10:20 am

oh dan, we mentioned the bottom row several times. :D

10:21 am

I am inattentive today

10:21 am

yes, stupid jokes are fine, but mine just didn't make sense

10:24 am

I'm down to 98...back for the rest during football...

10:29 am

i'm down to 200 finally.. working letter by letter is slower

10:30 am

well so far I have found some obvious ones with the list but the n's are troublesome

10:30 am

10:35 am

I'd like to try one too

10:36 am

my maiden name is in the grid , too

10:36 am

mine will never be in the grid

10:36 am

How could that be??

10:37 am

I guess you are right, technically it could

10:38 am

does it have two Qs

10:38 am

even 2 q's is possible if the name had 2qu's in it

10:38 am

10:39 am

10:52 am

*!*~*!* any clues wanted before I leave?

1:01 pm

hagd everyone :)

1:06 pm

half way finally

1:09 pm

looking for 80 here...

can someone spare a clue for the or7? p&ty

1:19 pm

Or + consumes?

1:20 pm

Has a meal?

first read that as costumes

still blind. my interpretation of your clue must not be correct. it is after delivered a speech and before minerals.

1:24 pm

The more you work on these big ones, the less sense they make. I was looking at so5/12, not a liquid or gas and was thinking, "that is not a word..."

lol, like co8, I was reading it as man's name + body part until I realized what it was

1:26 pm

You eat at a small cafe or di5/12

1:27 pm

But make it a plural

1:28 pm

Was just getting ready to type that. =)

just saw oreos :D

1:32 pm

I'm not getting the co8

1:33 pm

I got it...

it's math related

I saved us all more trouble and looked up the or. was obviously not getting what y'all were telling me to do, but thanks!

1:34 pm

the co8 is math related?

and or7 is not a word I am familiar with

1:35 pm

co + li6/198

1:35 pm

li 6/18

1:35 pm

40 left...back after halftime...

1:36 pm

of course its a li6 I don't have

lol, li6/198 uses the high point tile

means in a straight li4

1:36 pm

it is halftime of the game i am watching

1:37 pm

does that li6 end in s?

1:37 pm

Ooo, I want a word that gets 198 points

1:37 pm

why did the tortoise win the race?

1:38 pm

he got to the other side faster?

1:38 pm

it was a bad hare day

haha

1:39 pm

found that in a crossword puzzle this morning and had to share lol

1:39 pm

need more help with the co li word pls?

co* powell + what you hear with

1:40 pm

ahhh

1:40 pm

those three points are co8, then

this same word caused lots of problems the last time it was here

1:41 pm

Well, if you add not far to the four letters you already gave, ta da!

1:41 pm

oh didn't know i had to spell his first name i have it now ty

it's literally 2 points on the same li4

in maths

1:42 pm

well, any TWO points are always co8. it's only interesting if more than two

good point

1:42 pm

it's the other c that i'm finding difficult. got two movie-looking words and a fat spread for cooking

1:43 pm

That would be The Ci5 Kid, not the fat spread, right?

1:44 pm

aren't they the same?

1:44 pm

No, the white lard has an R after the C

1:44 pm

ohh no i forgot the fat spread has an r

1:44 pm

silly me

1:44 pm

so yes, the kid, the kid

just realized I didn't do c's yet with the list, so I still have 4

1:45 pm

okay game is back i don't have all the c words yet

1:45 pm

Disgusting stuff. And yet, if you have watched the movie "The Help" there are all kinds of amazing uses for it.

1:45 pm

bye for now

1:46 pm

keep wanting to use "ck" which isn't available

I just used some in a chocolate/PB chex mix recipe the other day

1:55 pm

I have no use for it. But I have a friend who was raised by parents who had a bakery and said that lard is the best thing to fry doughnuts in.

interesting. my mom always had it on hand for different things, but I only use it if a recipe calls for it. don't use it in anything I make without one.

1:56 pm

lard is the best when making pie shells

I wouldn't think of frying stuff in it

yeah, I could see it being necessary for pie shells.

ok, I give up on the next to last en6/18

looked it up!

now 6 a's left

2:08 pm

you saying that just got me two en6/18s hokie, so thanks

great!

2:08 pm

this just goes to show, wondering aloud in the chog is not a bad idea :D

there are 3 total

wondering aloud does sound better than talking to yourself

2:09 pm

hmm ok that's the last e from that box for me then

2:09 pm

i have a couple of en6/21 but not a third en6/18

hmm, the list shows 3 and has to be from that E so you must have a 3rd

2:11 pm

no i'm saying i am missing one from that box, and that must be what i am missing!

2:11 pm

en6/18 ends with not bro

ah!

2:11 pm

got it!

2:12 pm

you guessed the right one bea :D

the one bea just clued is the one I had to look up. which is bad since we have it all the time.

2:12 pm

Just ask Vanna Bea for the vowels. =)

2:13 pm

so i am annoyed about a sexist trivia question i had on Trivia Crack (an app game, if you don't know)

I used to play all the time

2:14 pm

it asked who played the lead in Jurassic Park, and Laura Dern and Sam Neill were both choices. i surmised, correctly, that they meant Sam Neill. But it seems to me that they had completely equal roles in the movie, and she was the more memorable I think. but he gets classed as "the lead" just because he's a man??

2:14 pm

who had the bigger font in the credits

2:15 pm

i would think they would have been the same size...

2:15 pm

Yes, it's typical Old Hollywood. Man gets top bill.

2:16 pm

can trivia crack have 2 correct answers?

I've seen the movie a lot and would consider him the lead, not because he's the man but because he spends all that time with the kids. just seems like he had more screen time and storyline. whether that's sexist or not, I don't know.

2:17 pm

it seems really dumb to have those as 2 of the choices.

but the thing about Trivia Crack is users submit the questions and answers so some of them are really bad. that's kinda why I quit playing. that one was probably from a 10 year old.

2:18 pm

yeah, hokie. i had a math one once that was just incorrect. the correct answer was not even one of the choices.

2:19 pm

sounds like the old #jeopardy game on irc.

2:19 pm

and you can only report a question if you answer it while playing with another person, not in any of the other modes of play

agreed, they should have just left her off the choices if they were getting at Sam Neill. have had ambiguous ones a lot.

well, had to look up my last one too, but I am finished now

2:21 pm

99 to go. bbl perhaps!

2:21 pm

*Laughing at Vanna Bea

2:21 pm

i just learned something interesting yesterday related to ar7

2:22 pm

Fiji - the bottled water brand - at one point said something in their advertising disparaging the water in the city of Cleveland. so the city ran tests and found that Fiji had levels of ar7 you would never find in city water.

2:25 pm

One of the reasons I laugh at people who trust bottled water.

2:25 pm

Does not surprise me, hurshy.

2:26 pm

Me too, Molly. And all the plastic waste...

2:27 pm

I have about eliminated all plastic from my home. I do still have plastic containers for storage, but that is about it.

2:28 pm

last di 7/31?

2:29 pm

7/32

2:29 pm

un rank

2:30 pm

and I know that word is in the grid...sorry.

2:30 pm

and I kow that word is in the grid...sorry.

2:30 pm

ty BzznBea!

2:30 pm

Hmmm...I am an echo...

2:32 pm

yw, mac.

2:33 pm

well i also found these stats

2:33 pm

It takes around 6.74 kilograms, or 1.75 gallons of water, to produce, export, and distribute one bottle of Fiji Water. It also takes 2,000 times the amount of energy to produce bottled water as tap water, and each bottle costs up to 2,000 times more than tap water.

2:34 pm

and of course this is not different from other brands, just happened to be the one i was looking up

2:35 pm

It has alwo been investigated and several bottled water companies were filling their bottles with city water.

2:35 pm

yeah i think i heard that as well!

2:35 pm

i ALSO read that australia, during the drought, sold millions of dollars of its water to a foreign company or companies. brilllliant

2:36 pm

Our city puts out an annual report on our city water. I am perfectly happy drinking it.

2:37 pm

I filter tap water with Brita pitchers.

2:38 pm

do we have someone compiling a list of words that babblers want to suggest be included if and when there is an update of enable someday?

2:38 pm

because i think "afro" should be on there

2:38 pm

We certainly agree.

2:39 pm

that top A is driving me a bit batty

2:39 pm

I have very little belief that Enable will ever update. It's been 20 years now.

2:39 pm

13 left...C's and D's...back soon...

2:41 pm

2:52 pm

so, about that retracted clue request for fa7...

and if I'm reading that right, it hasn't been updated since 2000?

fa7, opposite of ne8

2:53 pm

maybe scottish immigrants like the Ingalls ancestors brought the archaic words with them...

compound words

2:54 pm

thankee hokie

2:56 pm

ooooeeeeeee i found a 9!

2:56 pm

The description of the Enable word list in that internet blurb is so snotty (talking about how superior it is) that I figure they just think they are the hottest shit around. Whatever.

5:33 pm

Fine thanks - no fires here at the moment. We had them before Christmas. Feel very sorry for those in NSW and Victoria. Terrible there.

5:33 pm

what are y'all planning to do about your government?

5:33 pm

Hope your new year has started well Hurshy.

5:33 pm

I knew Hurshy was assiduous.

5:34 pm

I wish I had the answer to that Hurshy.

5:35 pm

What? Americans aren't the only ones with government problems? You would never know it from comments in this chat. : D

5:36 pm

🤣 I think I'd chose the NZ government if I had a choice.

5:36 pm

denmark seems like it has things pretty together maybe

5:36 pm

11 years today since I moved to Australia - where did that time go?

5:37 pm

where did you live before that liz? and what made you move?

5:37 pm

London. Early retirement and Aussie hubby.

5:37 pm

5:38 pm

We've been together since 2003.

5:38 pm

sorry if i'm being nosy, just don't answer if you don't want to

5:38 pm

Through teaching.

5:39 pm

That's OK - I won't answer anything I don't want to.

5:39 pm

aHA i got the in

5:40 pm

I only got the fa through clues in the chat. Not a word I know.

5:40 pm

5:40 pm

Begins with not near and ends with another word for the sun.

5:41 pm

since farcical refuses to be spelt farsicle for me

5:41 pm

And sickle didn't want to lose the k either.

5:41 pm

thank you!

5:42 pm

but if you're trying to point out a specific icicle, and it's the one on the end, surely that is a farsicle

5:42 pm

:D

5:42 pm

True - or it should be :)

5:43 pm

now to return to tackling that dratted lower C

5:44 pm

It sounds like Liz and her husband have a great love story. I love great love stories.

5:44 pm

Just looking for my last c - and it's from that tile.

5:44 pm

5:46 pm

Sorry - don't know that ref.

5:46 pm

it's in the Old Testament

5:46 pm

Sisera - I guess I'd've spelt her name with a Y. I googled it!

5:47 pm

Sisera was a man, do you mean you'd spell Jael with a Y?

5:48 pm

Yes - Yael.

5:48 pm

ah

5:48 pm

are you Jewish?

5:48 pm

I was thinking sci fi rather than bible.

5:48 pm

Yes

5:48 pm

ahhh, is there one in sci fi also?

5:49 pm

Dunno. It sounded like a sci fi name to me.

5:49 pm

hello is anyone here?

10:32 pm

i am looking out of my hospital room window at a blanket of white. SMOKE EVERYWHERE just smoke. it is coming in through the air conditioning. we have smoke in the corridors. i am weeping for my country.

10:45 pm

Oh grannyrose, how horrible & frightening. On the news yesterday, they compared the size of the fire to Manhattan.

10:47 pm

Will you be able to be moved?

10:53 pm

Ok, I see that Manhattan comparison is very off, it's much, much larger than that.

11:30 pm

hi helen. it's just smoke no fire here yet. i am actually in a safe place here.

Helen, I last heard the fire area is the size of Belgium

Glad to know you are safe Granny. Its a horrible situation
