DESERT RESTING PLACE

A mild slap, I feel, due to the number of vowels in that word. Thank you.

4:28 am

sorry for shouting and hello

4:28 am

It was left over from previous e-mails sent this AM

Howdy! How are things in France? It's sunny here, which is nice. Of course, I'm at work, so can't take full advantage of the sunshine

4:30 am

Rainy but surprisingly mild, 15C or so, unseasonable for Jan but I'm not complaining, just worried for the world

4:30 am

You and me both. I'm not looking forward to Brexit day, for a start

4:32 am

Will there becelebrations or mass despair?

4:33 am

Could I have the stats for the lone e at the bottom of the second column please?

Really? When I was a kid, people told me a look like the girl from the Exorcist. I wanted to spit pea soup on those people :)

4:56 am

hahah, but do you know Penelope Wilton? She's been in many English films, usually a Wise and calm character with a twinkle in her eyes

4:59 am

Wow Matty, I'm not seeing the Linda Blair thing at all. But Ruby is right, you do look a little like Penelope Wilton.

I was compared to Linda Blair when I was a young teen. I've aged since then :)

I do know Penelope Wilton. I think I'm a bit younger, though.

She's 73!

5:44 am

I'm guessing Ruby meant in Wilton's younger days

:D

I do realise, though, that as a smoker, I look older than I am ;)

6:14 am

If you look at more recent pictures of Linda Blair I can see it. You look much better though )

6:15 am

I realize I am a bit late to the discussion.

Thank you!

I'm in and out, as I'm at work (naughty me!)

hmm, what's the stat?

9:21 am

sc 7/36

well, not seeing that, but I have scrolled through the chat and picked up a few and finished my coffee. 39 left still. will try to find a few more before resorting to the list.

finally got the other n to gray out the 4th col

9:31 am

Carla, have you used tapioca starch as a substitute for flour?

not exactly. I have used it in a gf flour blend when a recipe called for it.

9:33 am

I was just looking at a recipe for wraps/tortillas made from tapioca starch.

9:34 am

I have 3 SL words for the bottom s in the third column Anyone know the stats for the word I am missing ?

interesting. is that the only flour-like ingredient in it?

are you on pinterest again today? :D

9:34 am

I am on Pinterest again today...LOL!

I only have 3 too, mlfan, but I know bea has it

9:35 am

i was about to ask the same thing lol

9:35 am

Yes, the starch, cheese and milk are the only ingredients, I believe.

9:36 am

hokie obviously bzz has it:)

9:37 am

It is not an SL. There are only three of them.

I will have to look for that recipe

9:37 am

It is not an SL. There are only three of them.

9:37 am

that know bzz

9:37 am

i know

9:37 am

hi all.. BzznBea, your flower was my last word. I finally worked out a way to rate the grids, on a scale from 1-9 with 9 being the hardest and 10 being impossible. This grid rated a 4. Have to scoot for pickleball - Happy Babbling!

9:37 am

try sa4

o m g (eye roll)

wait, that wasn't it

9:38 am

yeah i don't think so

9:38 am

The tree juice?

nope

9:39 am

9:39 am

9:41 am

what are the stats for the 8?

9:42 am

sp 8/60

9:42 am

sp8.60

9:42 am

hi dc ty and bzz too

9:42 am

Use the suffix du jour, mlf

9:43 am

its pl of the sp 7

9:43 am

YOu must have found it.

9:43 am

i had the 7

9:44 am

woo, fat-fingered at co4

9:44 am

Then plural it.

9:44 am

fat finger?

9:45 am

hit the wrong key, and found a word. then entered what i meant to type.

9:45 am

you know what they say about fat fingers DC :D

when your fingers are fat and you hit other keys, I do it all the time

9:45 am

oh cool gj

haha, brings ruru out of the woodwork

9:46 am

FA 6/30 clue please?

was just going to ask someone to guess which f I was missing. that's it.

9:46 am

the front of a building can be called a fa.30, as can the front of anything.

9:47 am

The fronts of heads with an extra cons thrown in

got it, thx

mlfan, have you heard of people having plantar *-itis in their feet? similar word with different vowel at the end

9:49 am

that is 6/36/7/40

nope, you didn't throw the extra cons in

9:50 am

yes i have i will google it to get exact ty

ends like an f word for poop

9:52 am

where does the extra cons go?

9:53 am

after the first vowel

9:53 am

*leaves a trail of popcorn at the f*

9:53 am

think of it as the british spelling for poop....add a vowel near the beginning of poop....

9:54 am

all these are shitty clues

9:54 am

kind of lol

9:54 am

disregard my clue, MLF.....going back to lurking...

9:54 am

lurk lurk and yay popcorn

should she dump these clues and start over?

9:55 am

yes pls lol

9:55 am

no.. she might flush out the word eventually

9:56 am

yeah it will be one of the many i will have left

9:56 am

Yes, please. New clue with clarity, please.

9:56 am

I could talk abut my stomach bug here, but I won't.

9:56 am

agreed scrab

we should paper this chat with better clues

9:56 am

I had that 2 weeks ago, Bea. Yuck.

9:56 am

bzz do you drink soda?

9:57 am

hokie toilet paper?

9:57 am

I only drink it accasionally.

9:57 am

Thank you Bea. My son had that last week so I got up close and personal with it. That was enough for me.

9:57 am

bzz coca cola helps me

9:57 am

You are all on a roll with these puns...

9:57 am

huh. Found a fe7.48 that i didn't expect to work.

9:57 am

dc i didn't either

9:58 am

I was drinking seltzer water yesterday.

9:58 am

bzz does it help?

9:59 am

fa6/30 - first three letters of not slow, last three letters of high scoring cards.

9:59 am

molly do you have a "cleaner" clue for the f word i need?

haz just did a good one

9:59 am

Thank you, Haz, for presenting a clue with clarity!

9:59 am

The seltzer helped a bit, mlf.

9:59 am

mlf is going to be pooped with all these cluse

9:59 am

You're welcome.

10:00 am

clues that is

10:00 am

The seltzer helped a bit, mlf.

10:00 am

i am lol

10:00 am

oh, weird no E in the first bit. ta, haz!

10:01 am

Not sure that anything would have helped this stomach bug except time.

10:01 am

I didn't think seain's and bea's original clues were crappy

10:01 am

Just time, Bea, and stay hydrated.

10:01 am

apparently for em yes

10:01 am

me

10:02 am

i went to the optometrist on Monday. I'll have new glasses next week. I'm very excited about that.

10:03 am

the first part of the word hokie mentioned about feet works in the grid?

10:03 am

dc i am so jealous i need to get new glasses too

10:03 am

i always am amazed at how expensive glasses are

10:04 am

ruru its ridiculous

10:04 am

i wear polycarbonate progressives. Just the lenses are about $660.

10:04 am

yikes!

10:04 am

I bought my current spectacles from an on-line site and paid $30. Best decision ever.

10:04 am

it's crazy. you can get cheaper ones now at like warby parker but my eye dr. (who is one of my tennis friends) says they're crap.

10:05 am

dc do you wear them when you are on a computer?

10:05 am

mine with the frame were a bit more than that dc.. but i think in SF they're super expensive

10:05 am

i badly need a new refraction, and you'd think I could get one easy working in eyes but here in retina we don't do that!

10:05 am

I have progressives but can't really wear them on computer

10:05 am

scrab just the frames?

10:05 am

the whole pair of regular glasses came to 1047.50

10:05 am

damn, that's a lot

10:05 am

and i chose the less expensive frames.

10:05 am

ok.. you win

10:05 am

No, the entire package! There are numerous online sites.

10:06 am

dc WOW

10:06 am

Whoa, Seain!

10:06 am

wow, I think mine were just about $500 total but I've had them for several years.

10:06 am

scrab i have been looking.. were they want you wanted when you got the?

10:06 am

I've had progressives from warby, they were fine, but the higher end retailers can often do a wider angle of useable lens on progressives

10:06 am

i've yet to find frames i like at warby parker.

10:07 am

zenni has some good options for me, though.

10:07 am

pipping i have looked at that site but i am not overly impressed with their selection

10:07 am

I have progressive multifocals too. Yes, MLFAN, I have been happy and will soon do it again, after an eye exam.

10:07 am

scrab that is so cool!

10:07 am

I am currently wearing a pair from staples that are 3 levels and they work much better for the computer than my progressives. plus they have the blue lens thing for computers.

10:08 am

I got my first bifocals when i was 14. Switched to progressives when i was 26.

10:08 am

i don't wear glasses for my computer

10:08 am

I worry about getting them online because I'm very specific about where I need the changes to be - I'm tall so if the middle distance starts at my pupil level (the way most places like to start) then half of my distance vision gets obscured since I spend a lot of time looking downward

10:08 am

my longest running lifelong friend got bifocals at 12

10:08 am

MLFAN, the cost of frames and lenses is outrageous so I am done with that.

10:08 am

hokie do you see yellow through them? i have heard store bought computer glasses can cause the degenerative eye disease?

10:09 am

My mom got hers at 11. My eyes are similar to hers.

10:09 am

don't blame you scrab

10:09 am

no

10:09 am

Oh, pip, that is tricky.

10:09 am

ruru i need glasses for the compuer

10:09 am

glasses cannot cause any degenerative retinal problems

10:09 am

some computer glasses you just get from a store can

10:10 am

can someone help me with this "poopish" word please?

10:10 am

I have never heard that

10:11 am

mlf, smiling fa5/18 with an S after the fa.

10:11 am

I've worked in retina for years, I've never heard of such a thing, most degenerative retinal conditions are genetic, and I've never heard of glasses affecting the back of the eye in any way

10:11 am

I think they say blue light can cause the degenerative problem, so the glasses would be the solution, not the problem

10:11 am

ty bzz

10:11 am

I have a freckle on my retina

10:12 am

hokie i guess but its what i have read online some say those types of glasses have a yellow tinge

10:12 am

mine has a blue tinge

10:13 am

We know that everything you read on line is correct.

10:13 am

I just googled and didn't see anything saying they cause problems, only they might help

10:13 am

well stores have to give warnings

10:14 am

true, bea! ;)

10:14 am

I have 3 moles on my retinas.

10:14 am

we do frequently suggest yellow tinted glasses for patients with problems because it helps to increase contrast sensitivity

10:14 am

moles?

10:14 am

never heard of freckles and moles on retinas

10:14 am

me either

10:15 am

yep, totally a thing, freckles on retinas and sometimes on the iris too

10:15 am

I have a pair of yellow tinted sunglasses I wear when it is cloudy out.

10:15 am

most of the time it's nothing, they just take a photo and monitor it to make sure it doesn't change

10:15 am

one of my friends in HS had a freckle you could see on his eye. he had it removed later in case it was a problem, but it wasn't

10:15 am

they call it a nevus

10:15 am

HO 5 clue pls?

10:15 am

i guess if i had three moles in my eyes i'd gopher cheaper glasses too

10:16 am

so if i need glasses for the computer where should i get them?

10:16 am

Yes, that's is what they do for me geek.

10:16 am

ho 5 is plural of ho4/7

10:16 am

bzz yellow tinted glasses for the sun is just fine:)

10:17 am

depends how complicated your prescription is - for people who don't wear glasses already we usually suggest they just get cheap drugstore glasses to start (for reading or computer) and only if those are inadequate do we suggest paying for a refraction and custom made glasses

10:18 am

If it is just for reading, mlf, I get them from the dollar tree.

10:18 am

sorry i need a ho 4 will look.

10:19 am

think georgetown mascot

10:19 am

i use reading glasses for computer sometimes but its not that clear i don't use eyedrops much as i can never put the damn things in lol

10:19 am

I have to wear cheap readers when I wear my contacts. And since they only cost a buck, I have several in every room of the house.

10:19 am

i have the Georgetown words

10:20 am

then you have the ho's you asked about

10:20 am

I was excited to see cheap reading sunglasses...

10:20 am

duh should have had that one lol

10:21 am

same place bzz?

10:21 am

Yes.

10:21 am

yeah that's where we got our reading glasses too

10:21 am

I got some reading sunglasses a couple of years ago but they were too strong as the more light there is the better I can see

10:21 am

they were not a dollar howver

10:21 am

however

10:22 am

Just pinned a cabbage roll soup...Now, I have to step away from the Black Hole!

10:22 am

:D

10:23 am

cabbage soup will slaw you

10:23 am

bzz that's how i was with etsy until they changed the site

10:23 am

that's a dicey pun

10:23 am

i lost my glasses years ago, and have been using progressive drugstore readers. I am so very looking forward to the new proper glasses.

10:24 am

are you going to take a pic dc?

10:25 am

i've been steaming cabbage this week as a side dish with lemon and lemon balsamic dressing

10:25 am

not a cabbage fan

10:25 am

Oh, that sounds yummy!

10:25 am

i love cabbage, in all its myriad forms.

10:25 am

14 left, all s's. bbl.

10:26 am

10:26 am

We eat a lot of cabbage here. Usually steamed with carrots, peppers and onions. I never serve just one veg...

10:26 am

i love colcannon

10:26 am

i love savoy cabbage.. it's tastier to me

10:27 am

I like napa cabbage best.

10:27 am

Yes, I like that one too.

10:28 am

as7 clue please?

10:28 am

i braise purple cabbage with fennel seeds, red wine, garlic and shallots that's a nice side dish too

10:28 am

never mind i have it

10:29 am

Fennel and cabbage just fo together, don't ehy?

10:29 am

they do

10:29 am

10:30 am

10:30 am

I have to watch cooking with too many seeds because of mom.

10:30 am

10:31 am

10:31 am

I'm stuck too...my butt will not get out of this chair...=)

10:32 am

My onl y complaint is not being able to hook my bra. I need a stunt thumb for stand-in.

10:46 am

10:46 am

when I broke my wrist they splinted it for a week and when I went to get the cast they unwrapped it and left me to wait for the dr. I was just sitting there looking at it trying not to move it and was incredibly close to passing out.

10:46 am

I'm not normally weak with gory things, but when it's my own body it's a different story. also almost passed out after my shoulder surgery when I went in to have the stitches out and was looking at them.

10:49 am

i pass out with needles sometimes

10:49 am

Gotta look at your phone or something when that kind of thing is going on, hokie.

10:49 am

always affects me weirdly

10:49 am

my mom has to have shoulder surgery next month

10:49 am

bottom E stats pls

10:49 am

needles don't bother me at all. I can watch them give me a shot or take blood all day.

10:50 am

Don't pass out, but feel ooky when watching needles go in. Henceforth, I don't watch.

10:50 am

what is she having done, mlfan?

10:50 am

not me

10:50 am

they have to lie me down to take blood

10:50 am

not sure what its called bout apparently someone else her age had the same thing

10:50 am

she is in her 70s

10:51 am

my husband and oldest son are also wimps with needles :D. they youngest takes after me though.

10:51 am

i thought it was due to a fall she had a few months ago but i dontthink that's right?

10:51 am

did she shoulder a lot of blame mlf?

10:51 am

could be anything

10:51 am

torn rotator cuff...having that surgery too

10:52 am

Can no longer give blood (at Blood Bank). Blood pressure plummets after. Passed out after last draw. BP 90 / 50.

10:52 am

that was my first guess.

10:52 am

phae that doesn't sound like fun.. that area can be damaged due to a fal or over use right?

10:53 am

yes...that's how I injured mine

10:53 am

Rotator? Don't even know her.

10:53 am

mine was a SLAP tear (the L part of that being labrum). they also filed down a bone spur and I had frozen shoulder so they tried busting that up some.

10:53 am

bottom E stats?

10:53 am

hokie yikes!

10:53 am

my mom has a torn rotator cuff and frozen shoulder right now but no plans on fixing it I guess

10:54 am

fireworks!

10:54 am

that's insane

10:54 am

phae the e word stats are ea6 es4 ey 4

10:54 am

they also thought they were going to cut my biceps tendon and reattach it but they didn't have to do that once they went in, so that was good. that would've been 3 mos. immobilized.

10:54 am

Be rehap is a bitch after that rotator / frozen shoulder surgery.

10:54 am

mine is very painful every time i try using it

10:55 am

Rehap, rather.

10:55 am

hokie congrats on fireworks

10:55 am

ty mlf

10:55 am

it's funny, with the frozen shoulder they wanted me to start rehab and moving it right away so it wouldn't "freeze" back.

10:55 am

Ok. enough torture. 73 left. See y'all tomorrow!

10:56 am

good morning everyone :)

10:56 am

I'm sure it won't be fun

10:57 am

I have qu5 stats for other Q?

Darn you SWMBO! LOL

11:13 am

HELLO Cadfan! So nice to bump inot you!

11:21 am

Nice to "see" you too!

11:21 am

How is life treating you?

11:23 am

Well, I'm gong "home" to Colorado for the weekend, so that' s good. Other than that - day by day.

11:23 am

How are you?

11:23 am

I forget where you are living now. I always thing of you as being in Colorado.

11:24 am

We are stuck in Minnesota for a while.

11:24 am

I am great apart from a cold. Six weeks in London, staying with friends and having a great time

11:29 am

Kids in Colorado?

11:29 am

as 7 please?

11:30 am

London, ON or London, UK?

11:30 am

ends in "not brother"

11:30 am

sorry I do not have s 7 yet

11:30 am

London UK

11:30 am

ty champ

11:30 am

One in CO, one in CA on in NV these days SWMBO, happily, all three will be in CO this weekend.

11:31 am

lovely -- not as cold as the other London, I'd bet

11:32 am

Nice Cadfan. And yes cybernan, coming from blizzardy Nova Scotia, the winter here is not hard to bear.

11:33 am

LOVE Nova Scotia, though freely confess to preferring it in August :-)

11:33 am

ascesis

11:33 am

OOPS!!! Se this is why I don't chat :(

11:33 am

lol swmbo

11:34 am

I bet tons of folks are grateful, that's hardly a common word!

11:34 am

Natasha I actually don't mind the winter that much but I also prefer August to January

11:35 am

I'm from New England and love winter but as I grow older I start to see where it might be hard to get about. My mom at 85 felt marooned in her apt.

11:36 am

we got to NS in Sept. just in time for Dorian -- quite an experience to learn the true spirit of such wonderful people

11:36 am

Where in NS do you live swmbo?

11:37 am

OMG that must have been a shock! I lost power for three days, the longest I have actually experienced such a loss. I live in POrt Hawkesbury, on Cape Breton Island

11:38 am

We adore Cape Breton. I never wanted to leave. One of my happiest trip memories.

11:38 am

Such minor weather disasters do have a nice side effect: People go out of their way to help others out.

11:39 am

I'm so glad you liked the home of my heart Cape Breton.

11:39 am

We even did Meat Cove. Our son wanted to visit the northernmost point. Spectacular lonely beauty!

11:40 am

OK, I am lost on the O's. Anyone have a hint, or a nudge?

11:40 am

I'm really hoping to visit again soon.

11:40 am

camel drinking spot?

11:40 am

Well if you visit again you must look me up. I will do you a little tour

11:41 am

Greek exclamation

11:41 am

I will take you up on that!!

11:41 am

Eureka? LOL

11:42 am

we were in Halifax at the time - not much damage in the neighbourhood where our B&B was situated, but left the next day for Annapolis -- a whole new ball game there -- no power or water for the 3 days we were there -- but the greatest thing was the "we"ll manage and stay open" attitude on the part of the motel we had booked and the bakery who had the only oil fired stove staying open and preparing food for the locals and tourists, then everyone in the motel bringing what fruit and other foods they had to share with the others in the breakfast room.

11:42 am

I've been to Cape Breton Island. We loved it

11:43 am

cybernan see that is what I mean. Make the best of a bad situation and make new frie4nds LOL

11:43 am

The exclamation is used in court as the judge enters. It's French I think

11:43 am

Bichon what did you like about CB?

11:44 am

Oh I know that exclamation. I think they still use it in our courts

11:45 am

BTW if you look at my "profile" the photo is of me with my son at Louisbourg lighthouse :-)

11:48 am

Oh wow! I see you belong to the sisterhood of the pink ribbon, I do too. AND when you visit here again, I will want to hear you sing. I always said that if I ever had a choice of a gift from the gods, it would be an operatic voice. LUCKY you!

11:49 am

We loved it all... Louisbourg, Baddeck, Bras d'Or Lake, Sydney, Ingonish, Glace Bay, Cheticamp, Mabou, ceilidhs at the Red Shoe, jam from Galloping Cows, visited the distillery. Only thing I missed that I'm sorry about is Gampo Abbey.

11:49 am

fa 6 please?

11:50 am

add an extra cons to what is on the front of your head

11:50 am

I have fa6/36. It means turning your visage toward something

11:51 am

Ah yes. About to celebrate my 10th anniversary of "still here despite"! The voice is sadly pretty shot, but I can croak a few bars still. I had a wonderful time with it while it lasted.

11:51 am

sorry -- looing for fa 6/30 - have the same one as you

11:51 am

Natasha you really did see a lot. I myself have not been to Gampo Abbey; maybe we can go together

I just had someone play JE against me in WWF. Si5 when has that been a word? I thought JO was the only 2 letter J word.

1:06 pm

jo and ji, sometimes ja depending on dictionary

well, I know what jo means would love to know what ji, ja (maybe yes in another language?), and je mean.

1:09 pm

JA and JO are the only two in the Scrabble Dictionary

that's one of the reasons I really don't like WWF, but that's what everyone plays

1:12 pm

WWF has become so bloated as to be less fun. I'm also on Lexulous as dcseain

I don't like where the bonus tiles are on WWF. I played Lexulous many years ago but thought it got shut down by Scrabble.

I will check it out

I recently changed my WWF name to Randy McRando when I realized strangers could see my full name and FB pic. Some guy started a game and then was trying to have weird convo with me.

1:20 pm

Can I convert anyone away from Scrabble clones to playing Boggle clones instead? It's a level playing field that doesn't require you to figure out how to use a J and an X on your last turn or know all those darn 2-letter "words." weboggle and prolific.games are just 2 of the many sites where you can play and chat with nice folks!

I was thinking "didn't Lexulous come back as WWF after Scrabble shut it down" and in the app store the screen shots do look the same.

always love boggle clones, natasha. I will check those out. I have been playing serpentine after learning about it here. not doing very well, but I will check out yours too.

1:22 pm

I find the same weirdos on WWF, carla. It's gotten so that I decline all men unless I know them in real life.

1:22 pm

I love boggle because the element of chance (which letters you get) is removed, and everyone has the same set of letters to work with. Also it's fast. I always hated waiting for my opponent to lay down her bingo.

1:24 pm

My husband however loves WWF and isn't a weirdo. Michael C. if you ever run across him.

1:26 pm

Thx! Will look for him.

1:28 pm

Ooh, just looked up ca6, 36. Turns out to mean "to make or become like cheese." Must figure out how to use it in casual conversation :-)

1:29 pm

That word annoyed me! But it would be fun to drop some time. :)

1:30 pm

It was the one I struggled hardest to find Champ. I'm off to weboggle.info (play the 5x5 board). See y'all tomorrow!

1:31 pm

i'd love a clue for that ca6/36 :)

to make or become like cheese. who knew.

1:32 pm

Starts like the 4/5 before it, and ends in the sometimes vowel. It's a word that looks like it makes no sense.

oh, just saw natasha already said that

1:32 pm

I'm out of here too...anyone need a clue before I go?

1:34 pm

...see you tomorrow!

1:35 pm

I finally monkeyed it!

1:58 pm
