It looks like she tried that and the non-tinyurl that are in Sprite's profile. The problem may be on her end. That link works for me.

Rain, are you using a Mac? Expert doesn't work for Macs

Grocery store report: Better than last week. The produce section is still very low. I haven't seen fresh broccoli in weeks. But we are making do with frozen/roasted. They even had some paper products, including toilet paper. Not much, and people were scooping up as many paper products as they could. I did get flour and sugar and I have heard they are hard to come by. No bread flour though, but they did have a lot more bread than last week.

6:16 am

Lots of people in latex gloves. Including me, but I wore my badass black ones. : D Some people in masks. I'm not ready for the mask thing yet.

Thank you kindly!

6:42 am

Yw!

6:51 am

It seems to be a numbers game Une. As the number of reported cases rises, they weigh that against the hospital capacity and health care worker numbers.

6:52 am

I think there is also some concern about putting thousands of people in the "no income" zone.

6:53 am

Oh, i know, but still......

6:54 am

On the bright side, your pu4 are in the grid today. : D

pooper is so a word

7:08 am

Well, part of it is, so you may join Une in the PB. : D

7:09 am

I'm glad to hear there are more items available for you at the store, Molly.

7:09 am

I wish I could send you some broccoli. =)

7:10 am

morning everyone!

7:11 am

Morning, bonk.

7:18 am

It will be back soon, I'm sure. The stores are already way better than they were last week. I think people are backing off on the hoarding.

7:19 am

One good thing about the "shopping with Seniors" hour. None of them seem to like the self check out, so I had that all to myself.

7:19 am

Our produce was well stocked yesterday, but not a lot of people around here for in for that kind of stuff. =)

7:19 am

go in for that

7:20 am

I normally buy very little frozen or canned stuff. My freezer is full and I have more canned goods than I ever have.

7:21 am

I'm the same way. But, I haven't had any problems getting fresh here.

7:22 am

I did have to resort to frozrn chicken breasts instead of fresh yesterday.

Yay for a new fridge! Did your landlord pony up?

8:12 am

8:23 am

How are 2bits holding up?

8:24 am

ty for ru7

8:25 am

we are okay. I have always been able to work from home, mrs2bit is new to it but fortunate to be able to, and miss2bit simply didn't return to school after our big Africa adventure. She has made herself a schedule and is mostly sticking to it :-)

8:26 am

Is she doing distance learning?

8:27 am

self-directed resources are available for us for now - no teacher-led instruction until April (after what would have been Spring Break)

8:28 am

Maggie's school in particular has a lot of kids who would need laptops and personal hotspots in order to participate - plans were under way to distribute those things when the governor shut it all down

8:30 am

she is certainly still learning - her teachers are posting assignments and there's a ton of newly free resources parents are sharing with each other, but no grades and no statewide testing this year

8:30 am

Yes, that is where my sixth grade teacher daughter is now. They are scrambling to get distance learning up and running for their students. She teaches in a school that has many students on assistance. They don't have computers or even internet.

8:31 am

I'm wondering how this event will change the way our children get their education.

8:31 am

yes, the equity issues are real. we are very fortunate, and very grateful for the commitment from her teachers

8:32 am

I would love to see more emphasis on student-driven projects come out of this, with less teaching-to-the-test

8:32 am

8:55 am

Didn't hear it, but it is wet outside ths morning.

I don't hear things when I sleep usually. but it is wet this am

8:56 am

8:59 am

Corona Kindness. A local radio station is asking people to report Corona Kindness. This is the kind of positive stuff we need right now.

9:09 am

ep6 starts like the allergy pen and ends with French sea, I beleive.

9:09 am

ty Bea

9:09 am

It most certainly is Molly. And I think there is more of it than we know.

9:10 am

Bea! I just went to another store and found fresh broccoli and fresh green beans. Yay!

9:10 am

=) Are you not working?

9:10 am

I don't work on the weekends.

9:11 am

Oh, yes...It is Saturday...DUH!

who knows it's a weekend? all the days are a blur now.

9:11 am

I imagine for people who don't work, weekends are no big deal. To me, they are sacred.

9:12 am

I have 7 day weekends.

9:13 am

I remember in "Downton Abbey", tthe characters had no idea of wha a weekend was. Everyday is free.

9:13 am

Of course having to go to multiple grocery stores, puts you at more exposure. And yes, there were several people in the stores coughing and sneezing.

I ran into the oldest's friend girl yesterday when I was walking the dog. She said she'd been to Costco and they were only letting 10 people in at a time so there was a big line outside. not sure how lining up close together outside is any better than a few more people going in a huge warehouse at a time is.

9:13 am

Actually i usually take weeks off from other actvities.

9:14 am

That seems pretty stupid, Hokie.

9:14 am

But I think they make them stand 6' apart.

that sounds better, bea

9:15 am

Empose

she didn't mention that but they probably did

9:15 am

It is impossible to be six feet apart from people in a grocery store. And six feet apart in line, well I'm imagining a VERY long line.

thanks, mixi.

9:16 am

Also, an virus that can be contracted airborne does not recognize six feet of distance.

9:16 am

*A virus

did y'all already talk about Kenny Rogers?

9:24 am

Don't think so. Mr. Bea did.

I have the gambler stuck in my head now

9:25 am

Islands in the Stream is my earworm.

now it will be mine :D

9:26 am

It is moving day for the worms. 25 words left...back later...

did you know the Bee Gees, or at least Barry Gibb, wrote that song?

I have 50 left. will probably have to take a break as I am stuck.

9:31 am

+

9:33 am

my husband told me about Kenny rodges

9:35 am

There was a show on years ago called Flash Forward. One of the funniest running jokes on it was that a guy who was getting married had a fiance who wanted to dance to Islands In The Stream at their wedding. : D

9:36 am

I keep a running tab of best and worst wedding dance songs. That went on the worst list.

9:37 am

Right next to Precious And Few, which was the wedding dance song of a woman I used to work with.

9:51 am

hello friends

9:52 am

hey trif

9:52 am

hey hurshy!

9:53 am

just got off a wonderful zoom conference with a group of friends - amazingly restorative

9:53 am

nice

10:04 am

wow, nbt is elusive today!

10:07 am

hi Trif

10:07 am

hello bichon

10:09 am

I guess you're not teaching?

10:10 am

Good morning

10:10 am

nope. not even remotely. Due to "equity issues" teachers can only send enrichment activities, nothing that can be graded our count. At a zoom meeting this week, teachers in the english department noted that less than 5% of students are engaging with the material in ANY way.

10:10 am

Hi origami

10:11 am

Hi bichon

10:11 am

5%, sheesh

10:11 am

I feel SO bad for the AP kids, who will likely see their exams cancelled, and all that hard work is great in terms of what they learned, but no one knows what it will mean for colleges. Harvard - HARVARD - cancelled their graduation. I know, it's all better than getting a terrible illness, but it still sucks. Those poor students

10:12 am

Boston University has closed its dorms. 1200 students applied for hardship waivers to be able to stay, as they, quite factually, have NO WHERE to go, and NO WAY to get there.

10:13 am

whew! nbt

10:13 am

Wesleyan had done the same. All the student going home to nothing and social isolation

10:14 am

i know for a full fact that several members of our high school population live in unstable, unsafe homes, with food insecurity and real problems in the parents. And now they are all locked together.

10:14 am

I worry for them, SO MUCH

10:15 am

... This is their chance to study with no distractions. If they're that good at they can read every book ever written and do every math problem and physics problem ever put in a textbook or on the net.

10:17 am

Boy, that is the definition of survival of the fittest.

10:18 am

... Not at all ... it only says you don't need teachers and classrooms to learn ... they're helpful, even very helpful, but they're not necessary

10:18 am

gosh, thank dos

10:20 am

i would, respectfully, argue the opposite. Without a teacher to guide them, engage them, and show them the relevance of what they are reading/trying to solve, they are rather like rudderless ships. Have YOU read every book even written, with full comprehension of the nuances and back history of the author and the text?

10:20 am

hy

10:22 am

good morning everyone -- nice sunny day here, looking like spring is on the way :)

10:22 am

There is a select few who could teach themselves. A *few*

10:23 am

... sky's blue but it's cold here

10:23 am

hi nan

10:23 am

good to hear, cyber! We have a few small bulbs flowering, like Croci and such, but no real blooms yet

10:23 am

Hiyas, kiddos.

10:23 am

Hi Judi

10:25 am

hello judi

10:26 am

on this discussion, I am doing my best to keep my 3 grandsons learning. We have lessons from their school. watching educational web shows, doing art and gym and listening to music. I never dreamed I would be homeschooling, but I am givig it my best shot. Their grandfather,my husband, is letting them help cook, work outside and numerous other activities. I think if the mind is bering used, you are learning. This has also been beneficial to me after working 40+ years and then retiring to help my kids with their needs.

10:26 am

interesting to hear what is happening with your school, Trif. Our grandchildren's scholl has laid out a program for the core subjects online and parents are home schooling.

10:26 am

good for you, anawaltgal!

10:26 am

... excellent

10:27 am

Everyone have a great day. I will be back on later.

10:27 am

mind you, they are in grades 2 and 4, so that is easier than high school. One is attending a univeersity that has gone virtual.

10:27 am

the best post I read was from a man in england who said "I have been home schooling for 30 minutes and now realize teachers should be paid 1 million pounds a year!" and he had TWO kids at home. Like to see him handle a caseload of 121 students, many of whom have different eds plans and accommodations to consider

10:32 am

... My fear which is made worse by listening to some interviews on the news is most of them are sitting at home doing nothing (sorry ... then is local high school students) ... you don't have to learn it all and you don't have to learn it completely and you don't even have to completely understand it ... using all the materials that are available, if you get ahead of the game, maybe the spring semester can be saved but if people sit around for the next six weeks then either they'll be repeating the semester next fall (or net spring if we can't figure out a schedule) or we'll give them the credit and they can go off to university woefully behind

10:35 am

... home schooling is a marvelous idea ... but when they come back to the public school or university to finish they're miles ahead in the parents' favourite subject and lost completely in other subjects ...

10:35 am

..... must be off ... luck to all who continue the struggle ...

10:35 am

Teachers are our most valuable asset. And I think they are grossly underpaid and grossly under appreciated.

10:38 am

Amen, Molly...

10:41 am

Even if I lived closer I don't think I could help -- my methods of teaching are so old fashioned -- I would expect them to memorize the multiplication tables and use phonics to learn how to spell, as well as teaching proper grammar :D

10:48 am

God Nan, I would love it if someone would insist on proper grammar these days. We are raising a generation of kids who know nothing about it. And penmanship? A lost art. Sad.

10:50 am

They also have no idea if they are getting the correct change at a store or even approximately what the total of their purchases should be unless they have a calculator in their hands.

10:52 am

I certainly still do that, cyber! I even teach sentence diagramming!

10:55 am

glad to hear it Trif -- our schools don't seem to think that correct spelling and grammar is that important.

11:00 am

I hear from other people in my field on a regular basis about the horrible resumes they are getting, full of bad grammar, misspellings and abbreviations instead of entire words.

11:01 am

Im gonna way in here from my perspective. I work in a secondary schol in the uk where learners have beed kicked out of their shools for a number of reasons, we will be calling home every day to ensure they are safe, Education for our learners is secondary to their saftey. Teacher roll im my situations is to Teach the subject, whilst guiding them into making better choises. They will not complete any of the acitivies given to them on the numerous platforms.

11:03 am

i'll weigh in too .. i see it in our local newspaper, edited with the poorest english imaginable.

11:06 am

yes I wasn't talking about any specific school - I realize specialty schools do need to make accommodations. I was speaking about the provincial curriculum in general -- I think the standards in some subjects have gone downhill. My daughter teaches math, physics and computer science at the university level and is constantly annoyed bye the inability of first year students to calculate anything without a machine to assist them.

11:11 am

*by

11:12 am

anyone else try pompei just in case there was a def. other than the city?

11:12 am

The internet is the primary way of communication between people these days. If no time is taken to spell correctly there, it will transfer to other methods of communication. I see examples of that daily.

11:13 am

I can only speak for the UK when i worked in a mianstream school (normal) the pressure was to get the grades, this meant missing out on a lot of the basics, The end grade was all that matters, and still does.

11:13 am

then that's sad M3 to me

11:14 am

Children have lost the art of commnication, they are unable to have a normal conversation. I see this even the in the most able learners

11:14 am

@ ruru its alll about data at the end of the day, This is why i left mainstream,

11:19 am

Taking a break from digging through worm poop...

11:19 am

you are a thrill a minute bzz

11:19 am

And I will be in the PB box while I find a few more words...

11:20 am

It is really exciting ru...Not my plan today, but oh well...

11:20 am

Bea, living in the fast lane.

11:21 am

Actually, I feel a bit sluggish...

11:21 am

PB box is like ATM machine : D And PIN number

11:22 am

i would think that worms poop dirt No?

11:22 am

I am putting chocolates in the penalty box, along with proper grammar.

11:22 am

hello again

11:22 am

can i have a clue for the re 8 please

11:22 am

just like Mitch McConnel

11:22 am

Pretty much, ru...but it is wet and slimy...

11:22 am

I do not have the word M3.

11:23 am

I don't either

11:23 am

i have a re6

11:23 am

bzz?

11:24 am

bzz i think the grocery store got a shipment today

11:24 am

Fod Lion

11:24 am

re8 is to put a law or rule back in place.

11:24 am

Food

11:26 am

Probably so mlf. They are getting their regular trucks.

11:26 am

ah ok:)

11:27 am

The only place there is a shortage is in the stores. Warehouses are well supplied.

11:27 am

ty Bzz

11:27 am

surely sooner or later the hoarders will be finished and the rest of us will be able to shop again

11:27 am

they also need drivers

11:27 am

m3 i haven't found the word yet

11:28 am

The problem is, stores get regular supplies, then people hoard things and thus, they are out of "demand" items.

11:28 am

true molly

11:29 am

re + first person contraction + what a model does

11:29 am

I think stores are shutting down the hoarding by limiting to one or two items.

11:29 am

My grocery store had some toilet paper today. Yet there were people with carts full of it, so they will run out again shortly.

11:30 am

All the stores in my area are limiting toilet paper and paper towels. They were also limiting bread, milk and eggs.

11:30 am

ep 6 please?

11:30 am

bzz i hadn't heard that yet... they should have started out doing that though

11:31 am

One of my stores was out of eggs today. The other had only 18 packs, which I don't usually buy. So egg salad is in our forecast this week.

11:31 am

ep6 - begin with the allergy pin and end with French sea.

11:31 am

cyber ends in word for urine

11:32 am

Good clue Bea

11:32 am

same here, bea. I was hoping to get 2 weeks worth of groceries (everyone is supposed to be trying to self isolate for 2 weeks) but the limit was one loaf of bread and one pound of butter, so that didn't work

11:32 am

Have you ever made creamed eggs on toast, Molly?

11:32 am

yeah.. except try buying epipens now.. they're ridiculously expensive

11:32 am

ty got the re8

11:32 am

i just had egg salad on toast

11:33 am

They have been crazy priced for a while though, ru. Big pharma...

11:34 am

ty bea

11:34 am

i just snort benedryl now as an option :D

11:34 am

They are over $100 each here -- that gets pretty expensive for those who have to carry them with them all the time

11:35 am

yeah.. and they expire really quickly.. i paid 800 for mine here in the US

11:35 am

it is obscene

11:35 am

Do you carry the children's benedryl, ru? It is chewable and gets into the system quicker.

11:36 am

yes - I think our granddaughter has to replace hers once a month

11:36 am

no.. but that's a great idea bea

11:36 am

i can't afford $10k worth of Epipens here Nan in the chance i eat a walnut

11:37 am

The dosage is by weight, so just figure out how much you need per your weight.

11:37 am

ty mlf

11:37 am

well... it'll be a lot i weigh a lot more than a little kid :D

11:37 am

*!*~*!* some strange words again today

11:39 am

My husband just likes to stock up on what we had before all this started(which is what he wants to do) With the situation the way it is now he cant do that with everything we already have. FYI I am not THAT disappointed

11:39 am

Nothing new Nan. Same shit, different day.

11:39 am

hagd everyone :)

11:40 am

So what do you usually stock up on, MLF

11:40 am

I think stocking up will be put on the back burner for a while, mlf.

11:40 am

i hope so!

11:41 am

I don't really stockpile anything. I usually just buy what we use on a weekly basis.

11:41 am

well.. i'm not going to contribute to the hoarding mentality. I am buying what i need and can use only

11:41 am

Its not a stock up on, its whatever we usually have.. if we eat one box or can of something he just replaces it with another box or can of it

11:42 am

ruru its gotten to that point in my opion

11:42 am

Oh well that is not really stocking up then.

11:42 am

i have fe 5/20 ending in r clue for the other one pls?

11:43 am

We don't eat a lot of food that comes in cans or boxes.

11:43 am

We eat bananas. and hubby loves apples

11:44 am

Molly, that is so awesome that you don't :)

11:44 am

We don't either, Molly. Thursday, I felt like I was on a cooking vacay as I fixed a bag of Trader Joes frozen chicken fried rice for mom and Mr. Bea andfrozen chicken nuggets and salad for me.

11:45 am

no corn chips?

11:45 am

BTW, frozen chicken nuggets under the air fryer are sooo good! They are one of my secret obsessions.

11:45 am

sounds good to me bzz:)

11:46 am

NO corn chips!

11:46 am

LOL

11:46 am

what did you dip your nuggets in bzz?

11:47 am

Larry is so desperate for snack stuff, he's been eating cinnamon toast crunch dry.

11:47 am

I don't dip my nuggets.

11:47 am

i have some cereal i have been eating from the box too

11:47 am

bzz no bbq sauce?

11:48 am

My husband and i are junk food junkies

11:48 am

I have homemade bbq sauce, but don't want it on my nuggets.

11:48 am

I am trying to eat only enough to not crave anything. I am not getting enough exercise to burn off anything.

11:49 am

i love chicken nuggets dipped in bbq sauce!

11:49 am

or should i say that i can dip in bbq sauce but oddly enough i don't like bbq chicken lol

11:50 am

fe 5/20 not getting in r clue pls?

11:52 am

When we started this worm farm, we started with 10,000 red wigglers. They are not very big worms. only about an inch long. And of course they have mulitplied...

11:52 am

I have considered buying an air fryer. But I am already a candidate for Kitchen Appliances Anonymous, so I am trying not to contribute to my addiction.

11:52 am

fe5 fatale

11:53 am

conveniently bzz

11:53 am

ty hokie

11:53 am

my mom would die at the thought of a worm farm. she hates worms. her sister used to throw tobacco worms on her when they were working in the fields as kids.

11:53 am

worm sex at Bea's house.. (Pass it on)

11:53 am

Molly, my air fryer fits on top of my instant pot.

11:54 am

I am going back to digging through poop...20 left...

11:54 am

yes, bea, but it is so big it takes up as much space as another appliance!

11:54 am

not a worm person either

11:54 am

The instapot is one thing I have no desire to buy. An electric pasta maker though...I look at them on Amazon and then "just say no"

11:55 am

What did people do during the Corona Virus isolation? One woman in North Carolina, perpetuated worm sex. (Think of the headlines)

11:56 am

lol

11:57 am

well.. i'd guess the filming would be segmented

11:58 am

hmm, hard to continue a pun thread with worms

11:58 am

PE 5 clue pls?

11:58 am

try me hokie.. i'll unearth a ton of them :D

11:59 am

A Glow Worm is better all you need is batteries and you don't get your hands dirty

11:59 am

well, you're the master

12:00 pm

what's the point total on that pe5, mlfan?

12:01 pm

I knew that would make sense when I found it, thx

12:04 pm

states like wv and Kentucky are making more alcohol so that more had sanitizer can be made. I say just use bar and liquid soaps

12:17 pm

some places people have been buying out the soap also i heard

12:17 pm

i think kentucky can never make enough alcohol :D

12:17 pm

yeah they used to say hand sanitizer was actually bad because it's making all the bacteria resistant

12:17 pm

I thought that's what she meant at first, ru. KY bourbon

12:17 pm

hurshy I have heard and read that it is better to use soap then hand sanitizer

12:18 pm

Not sure off hand as to why but it is what I am using

12:18 pm

stats for the U? anyone?

12:18 pm

yeah, but someone on reddit posted their WM was out of soap, but in the craft section they had soap-making kits

12:18 pm

Thank you hokie!

12:18 pm

refereed a baseball game, ru

12:18 pm

think baseball ru

12:19 pm

sorry, um5

12:19 pm

i typed that in before it didn't go.. weird

12:19 pm

thank you

12:19 pm

maybe you tried the phantom noun form

12:19 pm

I'm honestly shocked enable considers that a word

12:20 pm

i guess fi has to be in the grid for semper to work

12:21 pm

PIMP by 50 cent is stuck in my head now and pimp isn't even in the grid. but I ke4 seeing it

12:21 pm

I have em5 ending in r clue for the other one pls?

12:21 pm

I did try semper earlier just in case

12:21 pm

same word, diff cons. smith of the dallas cowboys

12:22 pm

though maybe he spelled it differently

12:22 pm

good clue hokie!

12:22 pm

has a I I think?

12:22 pm

maybe an i and 2 cons at the end

12:23 pm

one of the few cowboys i actually liked

12:23 pm

well, I grew up a cowboys fan, but he is certainly one of the best

12:23 pm

yes two t's

12:23 pm

agreed of all time loved him!

12:23 pm

(points against hokie)

12:24 pm

ha, just found ke5. wasn't sure it was a word without un.

12:24 pm

seems to be a really good person too

12:24 pm

lol

12:24 pm

it was my older brother's fault

12:24 pm

what we have here is a very happy cuddly cat

12:24 pm

clue please hokie?

12:25 pm

my oldest brother's team was the vikings though. not sure how I went cowboys, but we probably had more tv exposure to them

12:25 pm

is that ke 5/22?

12:25 pm

Hursh, I wish everyone could be as happy as your cats make you.

12:25 pm

mlfan, I've already given too much away. and yes, ke5/22

12:25 pm

diehard 9er fan from the beginning of time

12:26 pm

wow, the beginning of time

12:26 pm

i can't talk about happy cats

12:26 pm

no, you should wish everyone were as happy as THIS CAT, lol. he is the picture of bliss.

12:26 pm

its fine, dint see it but I did find the word on my own just wanted to make sure on the stats

12:26 pm

Hokie, your without the un clue was just fine

12:27 pm

I moved to CLT right after Panthers first season, so I've been Panthers since then

12:27 pm

Oh sorry Ru. I didn't mean to bring up the trigger thing again.

12:27 pm

when I first moved here I hated the Panthers

12:28 pm

well, my dog is super happy all the time.

12:28 pm

I'm confused. If you found the word, why did you need to make sure of the stats?

12:28 pm

Ruru I am a Redskins fan

12:28 pm

i didn't know if it was the same word molly

12:29 pm

i feel sorry for Redskins fans.. their owner is an idiot

12:29 pm

Ruru no arguments from me

12:29 pm

A tiny idiot. We call him The LIttle Tyrant.

12:29 pm

they should be competitve this year with RoN Rivera as the new coach

12:30 pm

hoke are you disappointed about Cam Newton/

12:30 pm

cam is going to the panthers .. you watch

12:30 pm

ruru i was sad when he was released from the panthers but am so happy for him now too.

12:30 pm

I still like him, but he certainly wasn't the same last year before he got hurt

12:30 pm

sorry.. the patriots

12:30 pm

Do they wear pink.

12:31 pm

lol, I was like, why would he go to the panthers

12:31 pm

He hadn't been the same in a while he also has a big head

12:31 pm

ruru i hope he does

12:31 pm

who zooz?

12:31 pm

wonder where T Brady will go

12:31 pm

he is already on another team

12:31 pm

The panthers.

12:31 pm

tampa bay hursh.. where have you been

12:32 pm

he still gets a bad rap for things he did as a teenager. he did a lot of great things for sick kids, etc., here in CLT>

12:32 pm

oh.. clever zooz

12:32 pm

:-)

12:32 pm

i have been ... um... home mostly

12:32 pm

zooz uggh no i don't want tom brady on the panthers he is at Tampa Bay and now they believe they are going to the Super Bowl

12:32 pm

why, yes, I have been living under a rock

12:33 pm

hokie that is very true and seemed to love NC

12:33 pm

we have a lot of patriot fans here in CLT since a high pop moved from up north, but I would hate it if he came here

12:33 pm

Cam can be a jerk sometimes, but yes he's super kind to little kids and the fans

12:33 pm

CLT?

12:34 pm

I did not understand his wearing of babushkas at press conf.

12:34 pm

very true ruru

12:34 pm

charlotte maybe?

12:34 pm

that is the airport code for charlotte, so that is how we abbreviate it here. get your mind out of the gutter as usual ru. ;-)

12:34 pm

i need to go on record.. I HATE abbreviations

12:35 pm

oh, you don't know all the airport codes in the country? :D

12:36 pm

I see mattygroves using all the normal internet acronyms that I use and no one yells at her!

12:36 pm

:D

12:37 pm

I am not a big fan of abbreviations either. Go the extra distance and actually spell out the thing you are trying to convey.

12:37 pm

but what if I am typing with one hand and want to shorten everything

12:37 pm

I will do my best! Laugh out loud.

12:37 pm

:P

12:37 pm

rolling on the floor, zooz

12:38 pm

i'm not on when matty is.. but i'd tell her the same thing

12:38 pm

*Sends a "socially distant" hug to Zoom

12:38 pm

((Molly))

12:38 pm

rollig on the floor laughing my ass off

12:38 pm

And 99% of the time, a person is not actually laughing out loud when they post it. Ha ha or that was funny is fine.

12:39 pm

Depends on your sense of humor

12:39 pm

anyone familiar with the military alphabet thingy? i am wondering if the L (Lima) is pronounced like the bean or like the capital of Peru

12:39 pm

i'm getting one word every three minutes now.. ugh

12:40 pm

sp 5/16, pls

12:40 pm

Capital of Peru here, Hurshy.

12:40 pm

I'm on a much slower pace than that, ruru. stuck at 32 left.

12:40 pm

Peru, Hursh

12:40 pm

peru!

12:40 pm

bichon, it means to foam or froth

12:41 pm

<---Military brat. Can also tell time in military style

12:41 pm

thank you!

12:41 pm

bichon, rhymes with a pl5 of smoke if that's helpful.

12:41 pm

if I actually laughed out loud at something I will say "I literally just LOL'd"

12:41 pm

If someone is laughing out loud every time they post LOL, I question their sense of humor

12:42 pm

depend on subject i suppose?

12:42 pm

hey, if there was an audible snort, then, that's laughing out loud, in a way...

12:43 pm

i am not getting that sp word?

12:43 pm

lima is the capital of peru

12:43 pm

agreed hurshy

12:43 pm

yes, we all know that, parker. it was already stated in the chat

12:43 pm

sp + last three letters of a column of smoke, called a pl5

12:44 pm

ch, don't understand your sp 5/16 clue, sorry

12:44 pm

or s + first 3 of another word for mountain lion + vowel

12:44 pm

i guess kenny rogers passed away

12:44 pm

spstink

12:44 pm

yep

12:44 pm

:D

12:44 pm

was it The Virus that got Kenny or Something Else?

12:45 pm

ty carla

12:45 pm

ty hokie

12:45 pm

ruru yes at the age of 81

12:46 pm

natural causes

12:46 pm

hospice care

12:46 pm

I read he was in hospice

12:46 pm

a virus is a natural cause

12:46 pm

waggoner had cancer

12:46 pm

I assumed from the hospice that he had cancer or something

12:47 pm

I think they would be making a big deal out of it if he died of COVID-19

12:47 pm

probably true Molly

12:47 pm

yeah probably

12:47 pm

And I don't consider a virus a natural cause when it comes to cause of death

12:48 pm

well it's a hecka lot more natural than a gunshot wound

12:48 pm

yeah, I would call that a sudden illness

12:49 pm

I mean technically it's from nature, but I think "natural causes" implies old age related things.

12:50 pm

My favorite song of his was Ruby in 1967, when he was still considered more of a pop artist from his days with First Edition... he was considered a bit of a hippie by many of the country artists at the time. I liked his music.

12:51 pm

♪You picked a fine time to leave us, Kenny R♫ He made a great contribution to the music scene. Off to the big show.

12:51 pm

went to list with 32 left - off the bat I am mad at what I've missed

12:52 pm

That is me ddne. Happy babbling everyone!

12:52 pm

well done, zooz

12:52 pm

so, like, if there's going to have to be a lot more social distancing for a long time, my grandmother is in a nursing home and is like 95 and visitors aren't allowed now and i'm wondering if any of us will ever see her alive again, because even if she doesn't get the virus, like, well, she's old, and this may make life more depressing not having visitors and stuff...

12:52 pm

Bye Zoom. Blessings to you and your parents.

12:52 pm

me 6/30, pls

12:53 pm

Are you able to visit via Skype or Face Time? That might cheer her up.

12:53 pm

true, hurshy. I'm sorry.

12:53 pm

i don't know, i doubt the staff have time to facilitate a lot of calls and there's no way my grandma or most people her age can handle tech stuff like that themselves

12:54 pm

bichon, not a large or small, or a psychic

12:54 pm

hurshy, out here in Washington we have several nursing homes and assisted living places quarantined. Many of the family members are going and standing outside their loved one's window.

12:54 pm

i am thinking the same thing in general hurshy

12:55 pm

ty carla

12:55 pm

np

12:55 pm

ty hokie

12:56 pm

i just hope all the factories get quickly moving - i heard that auto manufacturers said that they can start making ventilators - i hope lots of other companies will be doing that and things like masks and stuff for the health care people

12:56 pm

my favorite was islands in the stream.. and i also really like what condition my condition was in. (especially in the big lebowski) :D

12:56 pm

(country trivia) Barry Gibb from the BeeGees wrote Islands in the Stream

12:57 pm

yeah, Islands has been stuck in my head most of the day, with a little coward of the county thrown in

12:57 pm

true ruru and did it was a duet

12:57 pm

did you steal that from when I posted it earlier, ru? (j/k - I know you don't read the chat archive)

12:57 pm

i love The Gambler

12:58 pm

And "Lady", though I liked it more when it first came out. I was working at a country-western station at the time, and it got WAY too much airplay, so I got tired of it.

12:59 pm

no.. sorry hokie.. i don't read back.. so i just knew it actually

12:59 pm

ah, Lady was a good one

12:59 pm

yeah, it's good trivia ru - my mind was blown when I first learned that a few years ago

1:00 pm

i gtg will be back..

barry gibb is one of the most successful songwriters in music history

1:00 pm

i remember when i was bartending in Oregon and the jukebox would play "On the Road again" about 250 times a day.. i finally ripped the record out of the jukebox and threw it like a frisbee out of the bar

1:01 pm

everytime someone would punch in Willy.. all they'd get was thump thump thump.. scratch.. thump thump thump it was necessary to save my sanity

1:02 pm

YES! That was another that got way too much airplay, and I'm sorry to confess I was partly responsible for that. In my defense, the timing of the song was 2:30, which was perfect for backing into top of the hour or bottom of the hour news. There weren't many songs of that length, so it got more airplay from stations because of that.

1:02 pm

Islands in the stream does not make a lick of sense

1:04 pm

true.. but it's a lovely song

1:04 pm

Ditto Dan Fogelberg's song Auld Lang Syne, which was much longer than most songs. It let me go to the bathroom, get coffee, etc ... Of course, most stations are automated these days.

1:05 pm

can i interrupt the rogers love fest to list 7s and 8s and find out what the others are? i have: im7 ru7 so7 te8

1:05 pm

so when you hear that song now .. do you have to head for the restroom CH ? :D

1:05 pm

re 6/30, pls

1:06 pm

ok.. everyone back to kitties

1:06 pm

bichon: cure

1:06 pm

LOL!!!!! Good one, ru. And probably true - I just didn't recognize the connection.

1:07 pm

There are a lot of people who know that Barry Gibb wrote Islands In The Stream

1:08 pm

it's weird because i hate most beegee songs

1:08 pm

so, does anyone have the other 8 or my missing 7? :D

1:08 pm

ty hurshy, fw

1:09 pm

There are a lot of people who don't know that Neil Diamond wrote Red Red Wine, speaking of music writing trivia.

1:09 pm

THAT i did not know

1:09 pm

Everyone, Hurshy needs some attention : P

1:09 pm

i only have two sevens.. no idea

1:10 pm

i do have both 8's though

1:10 pm

mk cool so what is the other one besides te8

1:11 pm

re8/50

1:11 pm

Neil Diamond wrote several songs that got more traction from other artists. Like "I'm A Believer". Everyone thinks The Monkees for that one.

1:11 pm

thank you!

1:12 pm

the only Neil Diamond song I like is Holly Holy

1:12 pm

My favorite Neil Diamond song is Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show

1:13 pm

Mine was Come Play Me. Beautiful melody and his tone was perfect.

made my lunch, what'd I miss?

there is a neil diamond song I like but I can't think of it right now with islands in the stream stuck in my head

1:15 pm

be back later :)

I did know he wrote I'm a Believer but did not know about Red Red Wine

1:17 pm

i can't find another word.. dammit

I have the ep6 bea clued earlier (ends in french sea) but can't find the other

Can you clue the re8 please, ruru?

1:20 pm

Oh good, now I have Neil Diamond blasting. Good memories.

to set a rule (like a curfew) again

1:20 pm

re8 to reassert yourself in a situation

1:20 pm

if necessary, we should re8 a 20% tax on luxury goods

1:20 pm

e + what the weasel goes + double vowel

1:21 pm

I saw Neil Diamond in concert twice. He never did Red Red Wine. And then UB40 made it insanely popular.

thx, that was strange

1:21 pm

esenatee

1:22 pm

damn it

Hmmm. Still not getting the 8

1:23 pm

re + oh, i hate to _______, but could i borrow a cup of sugar?

speaking of music, TIL (today I learned) what the pl of te5 is

Ohhhhh. Thanks Hurshy

1:24 pm

8 left!

1:24 pm

3 P, 2 R, 2 D, and 1 K

still have 25 here

1:25 pm

well can anyone tell me the K i miss? i have two to do with retaining things, and two to do with neatness

I am missing one but on the list, hold please

ke4

I cannot find the Y, anyone want to clue it, please?

french military cap

1:27 pm

monkeys helped. military cap not so much lol

1:27 pm

Y = singular of an exclamation that people usually say plural

probably normally seen as yi5, player girl, like an interjection

1:28 pm

Y rhymes with the fruit that's ready

Got, thanks Hurshy

1:31 pm

Sometimes finding 4 letter words is a pain in the butt

1:33 pm

well, i have found them all now, for today.

well done

1:34 pm

the 4s i mean

1:34 pm

i still need 3 fives, 2 sixes, and 1 seven

1:34 pm

congrats hurshy

1:35 pm

the fourth 7 is either a P or an R

1:35 pm

but if it is R it is NOT re

oh, I have all 7s now, let me look

ru7, ro7

1:36 pm

ok it is the RO7 that i need

1:36 pm

hurshy my first de 4/6 ends in p can you tell m what the de 4/6 ends with that is right before or after that one pls?

1:36 pm

got it!!

1:37 pm

de4/6 means to judge, like i do not de4 it necessary to wear a mask at home

do you de4 that necessary?

1:37 pm

ty hokie

now hurshy is chopped liver ;)

1:38 pm

not to opie! opie values my cuddling services very highly

opie is in the grid

1:41 pm

yes he is

1:43 pm

i think he and fritz are about to throw down

1:46 pm

two po words that rhyme with mr. lasorda

yeah, could've used that 3 min ago. those took me a while

1:47 pm

lol sorry

1:47 pm

This is interesting (From CNN)...Should I wear a face mask in public? Probably not. Masks keep germs in by preventing sick people from coughing or sneezing into the air. But they don't protect healthy people from coming into contact with those germs.

yeah, I had read that the other day

1:49 pm

and the kind of masks that do prevent germs getting IN are desperately needed by hospitals

1:50 pm

however, if you wear a bandana around your face it can at least help remind you not to touch your face, so that could be useful if you're mostly staying home but you go out to buy food or whatever.

true

1:51 pm

it sounds like they think transmission is more from touching surfaces and then touching face than from direct germs in the air from a sick person

plus the CDC has said hospital workers can wear bandanas, etc. as a last resort, as it's better than nothing. I read a study yesterday that showed the efficacy of different fabrics. I keep seeing things about making your own or making some to donate, but it seems no one can agree on the best type to make and I don't even know if hospitals here are taking them.

1:53 pm

the thing i saw in WA asking for volunteers to make them was giving the supplies to the volunteers of the medical grade material, but, they were also already out of kits

hi all, plunging in

1:54 pm

yeah i saw a doctor commenting on that CDC advice and they were so freaked out because they are used to CDC advice being like... do these scientifically proven things and so forth, and this advice is like "the situation is that bad"

hey gwen!

not seeing the re6/30

nm

1:56 pm

The bottom line is that it is a crap shoot. It depends on your age, your health status, who you come in contact with, how careful you are. All we can do is do our best.
