Clues are up
thanks, lickety.
never knew ho6/27 could be used as a verb...
yeah. that's a gerund I'd never seen before.
Rose, if you see Ruru and I don't, please tell him that Flosey was on here last night...late. I wrote a note but she never answered. Now, she ( or someone using her computer) was on a couple of weeks ago and the same thing happened. Ruru said he tried to contact her some time ago....with no response. Don't know what happened....hope all is well there. Thanks, hon.
np's peach. yeah, i'm having the same issues. it's strange though, that whoever it is logging into babble, does not respond to our messages.
Rose, she never tried to insert a word....just on "Who's Online".
yes i know peach. it's very strange
bbl
Did not do too well today only managed to find 72 words. Hope my eyes will find more later. Happy babbling everyone!
Tilly's home! Hurrah!
Great news matty! Welcome home Tilly!
Thank you! In other news, I'm not getting anywhere on this grid
I have only found 33 words! UGH
I've found 65, but still have a bunch of 0s and only one 7 and nothing bigger. I can't see this one being a finisher
Gotta go! Matty I hope you have a wonderful day, and are able to see your granddaughter!
Glad to hear the grand girlie is home.
One day I'll see her in real life. No idea when though - the UK has so badly mishandled COVID and we still have a high deathrate (especially in care homes) and a high infection rate. Sigh.
I don't think any country was prepared to handle this well. Hopefully we will learn from this experience.
Australia and New Zealand (especially NZ) have done very well. I spoke to Sarah earlier, she said she's glad, that if we have to be so far apart, that she's the one in Australia and I agree with her.
https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/ (in case anyone's interested in the UK's official COVID cases in hospital stats)
What have those countries done differently?
IF you search Agenda 21 your see they ran a senario for this earler last year. I think huge organisations have plans in place, look how quickly the big stores had all the signs and tape ready to go.
The big difference is testing and contact tracing. The UK initially went with the (and I quote Boris Johnson) 'take it on the chin' method of containment - suspected virus cases that did not require hospitalisation were not tested and no contact tracing took place (it still doesn't...yet)
And, initially, the advice was to wash your hands frequently...and that was, for a good couple of weeks, pretty much the extent of the official advice. That, and if you feel poorly, self isolate for 7 days - it wasn't until the middle of March that other household members were told to self isolate
We had the opportunity as early as January to prepare for a pandemic - and we refused. We refused to go in with the EU, for example, regarding the supply of PPE and ventilators
Australia, New Zealand, Germany and South Korea aggressively tested and contact traced from the very start. That isn't to say that all went swimmingly (especially in Germany and South Korea) but it definitely played out a damned sight better than the UK.
Morning, all.....
hi, une...
100 down......off to feed pups and take out to potty :-)
This grid may win the prize for most weird words ever
I can say that there aren't any words that just jump out at you, is there...
How's life in the Bea Hive?
Same sh@t, different day. =)
My sister sent me a really good piece on how connecting with nature can help you anchor yourself in troubled times such as these.
It does help me. I've been out planting my flowers and tending the beds around our house. I have three or four pairs of mockingbirds that must be mating as they are chattering all day. I laugh at them as they are so noisy.
We have geese nesting around my office building. It's nice to see nature carrying on during all this.
Good morning, all.
Morning, Judi.
The Japanese have a term that translates to forest bathing, a mindful walk in the woods.
Mmmmm. Forest bathing. I could go for a good dunk today.
Isn't it the perfect term?
Anything that has to do with trees is usually good for my soul.
It is lovely, Bea. As one is enveloped by sights, smellls, and temperature variances, it is appropos.
However, I have to mark points off for the bugs and slugs.
The forest sounds much more appealing than this grid looks.
That is for sure...This one is a mess...
It's like if you took all the weird words you have ever found in Babble and put them all in one grid
LOL, just got here. looks like I won't be enjoying this one but I did find a 7 right off the bat.
*Gives Carla the Smarty Pants t-shirt
nice to have 1 g after 29 yesterday
Yes, but look at the vowels...
oh, the humanity - 51 c's
Just majorly cheated and went after the 8 and 9's.
I consider this a bad sign that I can only find 6/20 of the upper c's
This grid has bad sign written all over it.
hard even making up words today
yep. no hoity
lol
I tried that too, Carla.
The 9 is a ridiculous word
which one?
I'm assuming both 9s are ridiculous
One of the 9's is a tree
a tree that normal people have heard of?
Are you saying I'm not normal?
name that hip hop artist who sang "right thurr"
you're a master gardener!
Add gerund ending to ho6
A tree?
what if I don't have ho6 :D
Leading, being assertive
Oh, sorry it is an 8 that is the tree.
And here I am, looking perplexedly at the definitions for the 9's
the ho 9 is totally ridiculous.....molly's comment made me try a word i did not think was a word....
Clue for the tree?
now I have "right thurr" stuck in my head and I will be shocked if anyone here right now gets it. ;)
Well I think they are both ridiculous. Yes, both 9's
ci8.55 - tighten your belt + first number with a different vowel at the end.
Oc7/44, anybody? Anybody?
well it's not hoitying because that would be an 8
Oh man, I am so sorry I looked up those lyrics
got the ci8, thx
whatever the ho 9 is, the 5 I have doesn't make an 8
LOL, molly. at least it's not stuck in your head.
ty bea....
oc7 ends with what you wear on your finger
does the ci8 extend from another ci word?

ty for the ac6
thx, bea
7 osrry
ty bera
ty carla, thought it was from the 2nd column n; my bad
ac 7 is another plant. =)
it certainly adds a degree of difficulty when you are starting at the wrong tile. happens to me a lot. ;)
its too easy to do
Degree of difficulty...I love it. It's like Babble gymnastics.
ijust monkeyed oh 5/16
let's see if anyone can get this proper noun - former Boston Celtic
Announcer: Carla attempts an ac7 starting from the wrong A. The degree of difficulty is 200%
yep
"odds of her seeing the word have dropped to almost zero"

carla.....big boss with gerund ending....

that word? ty lol
I think there is an Ainge in sports right now that is either his nephew or son.
pen do they end in the same letter?
Danny Ainge is now the general manager of the Celtics...
no....
yeah, but I think his son or nephew is in college football or something
and not doing a great job as GM at the Celtics
hi ruru
... he was a nice guy with the Jays ... played okay at third ... was liked by the fans ... who were disappointed at the time when he gave up baseball for basketball ... ... now the sports talking heads say he was terrible but I don't remember that
pen I have the one ending in a 2 pt tile can you clue the other one pls?
oh, nephew and he played for UT (tn) and short time in NFL like 10 years ago.
MLF....one has a gerund ending...
ty pen
Danny's son Austin is Director of Player Personnel for the Celtics....
He once coached the Maine Red Claws....

You name it, I've drunk it.
i'm missing a c 8? any ideas?

ci8.55 maybe
Bea clued a ci8, what you do to tighten your pants plus a number with a different vowel at the end
the youtube video has lots of bollywood type music
sparfish: kind of like sparf, I guess
reminiscent of sparf, to put it more eloquently
ty for the 8.
If you drink that ri5 wine you will sparf all over the place
<-- bored to the point of being nuts, I am!
Do you have the Spanish term male of a Mexican descent

my husband and I just ate some plant based pasta from Barilla it was very good
stats for the y pls?
Isn't pasta made from grain, which would be plant based>
yi5.16
Yeah, I would think all pasta is plant based.
apparently some of the ingredients are peas such as chick peas
got the y ty
So it is not just plant based, but protein based.
its part of their new line of pasta
my mom sent it to us
Mom trying to get you to eat healthy
tried some cauliflower "tater tots" last night = not a hit
alloy didn't know they existed? just cauliflower?
bzz with my mom who knows..
yes, no potato in them.. got them at Aldi's on sale
cauliflower seems to be the replacement for whatever these companies make already
I love cauliflower and broccoli :)
I do too, MLF.. normally
Bird's Eye brand stared the whole cauliflower thing as did Oprah
may i have a clue for the g word pls?
Cauliflower tempura is very good made fresh. Fried frozen food is usually substandard.
on the other hand, I made some sweet potato balls that were delicious. It was fun changing the sweet potato to tiny pieces in the processor and then making/frying the flavored balls. Think I will bake instead of fry them next time. Trying different things.. you know why!
gi5.18 female donkey
have the g's but still missing 2 j's
i cant get into eating sweet potatoes on a regular basis. it a holiday food to me
Ac7/32?
ac7 ends with a variant of opp of day
adj. Une..

People around her go nuts for sweet potato fries. I'm not a fan.
Tx Bea!!!
you were right aloy
i hate sweet potato fries
Try a short spelling for Miss Aniston
morning
hi mool
But use a G instead.
hey Aloy, happy Wednesday
Love sweet potato fries......
Maybe a short form of Ms. Goodwin
We eat a lot of mashed sweet poataoes. Those are yum.
okay got the g
She is the only one I have seen spell that name with a gi
that is short for the name Virginia
Mashed sweet potatoes I can handle, but that is because of the butter and brown sugar load
yeah lots of butter does make them taste better
I don't use prown sugar in mine. A little butter, cream, cinnamon and nutmeg.
I make them just like I would mashed with potatoes.
yes, def. a pinch of nutmeg
Mashed with brown sugar.... yuck..... like crunchy and salty
nutmeg and cinnamon makes everything taste better!
That is short for several names. Jennifer, Ginofer, Geneva, Imogene.
Do you like sweet potato pie Une?
My last word was ho5.16...After finishing this grid, that is exactly what I need!
congrats, Bea!
what do you need bzz?
i still don't have a word from 2nd column n...brb

You have a neighbor with a still? Wow. And I thought my friend Todd was cool because his neighbor has a potato cannon.
mlf, no4.4 Go right from the n

Speaking of which...I need to go fix some brownies for my little lady that broke her leg. She will be in a wheel chair for a long time...

Mutant teenage turtles

what are its stats?
gi5/18
Like a drink you mix with tonic? And lime?
wow you guys sure make up weird clues lol
why wouldn't you just say Weasley girl? lol
Like a rummy card game?
Because then someone would say "can you give a non-Harry Potter clue?
:O
And I could have clued "carry me back to old Vir..." but then someone would say that was a "US clue".
lol
well, thank you
how about the Y?
I figured the alcoholic drink was international and cross generational.
my husband toldme their is a sign near by that said it was someone's bday and to honk for her
And I get the fact that not everyone knows Harry Potter references. I have no clue when people make Dr. Who references.
but Dr. Who is a show
the way something is done?
Harry Potter is books
people who love word games should be into books
is that a Y clue, MLF?
not getting 2nd olumn n yet?
greek temple
Yeah, but they are not all going to be into the same kind of books. I have no interest in science fiction books. Some people here love them.
naos isn't in the grid/
singular
Dr Who has a huge range of books
i know they do ata, but its PRIMARY vehicle, original vehicle, is/was TV
i love the show but haven't read any of the books
The way something is done...like ___ To Save A Life by The Fray

just took a lunch break. still have 59 left. had not tried chianti.
but I can tell you chingy and cringy are also not words
Wait, it used to be and now it's not? How does that happen?
the spanish wine is fine though
I think chianti should be capitalized, so not acceptable.
ty for the spanish wine
what does the spanish wine start with?
ro5
r
Oops Ri5.
Well both Chianti and the Spanish wine are named for regions. So technically, they are both proper nouns. Enable sucks.
ri
I was so confused about ro, thanks
58 left!
Not just wines, there are some trees and animals that are acceptable, and some that aren;t
conure for instance is not
kauri - a tree from new zealand is
FTR, I went to the list but am stuck on an5/10. not a lot of options and yet it eludes me.
the one that has the same ending as the in5/10?
The rules for Enable are as follows: We are the Enable word list makers. We make our own rules. Like it or lump it.
like the vegetable that starts with o
It was kind of like that
well I don't have in5 either :D
WGT but TFLUK Carla
ah, thx mixi. just not my day.
Haha, almost says "way to go"
basically there was a scarbble word committe, that reviewed submissions and added them. So basically people could go and make the case to get words added
after 1998 the governing body loosened up, and so we got a bigger influx of words in the last 10 years
Huh?
enable, is "The Word List" which was the official scrabble dictionary including the "naughty words" that scrabble players used in official play
It's stuck in time though at 1998, there's been additions since that were not added to this one
As far as I know the Enable (Enhanced North America Benchmark Lexicon) word list and the Scrabble word list are two different things.
I shall do some investigation...
LOL - ca5/22 is allowed. it's like they picked a % of spanish and french words to allow.
and 2nd ch7
All I can say is that this grid is a mess and you are all invited to the new, socially distant bar in the PB. Sit six feet apart, drink all you want and yell to your friends and neighbors.
we can drink chianti and ri5
I will leave that to our winos
wonder if malbec is good
we can have some gi5 drinks for you
Ew, no thanks. I am not a drinker of the clear liquors. I am a whiskey girl.
as I suspected, this is annoying even with the list. TTFN
I've been playing this game a long time and this is the most annoying grid I can remember.
not the most enjoyable one
So it looks like the enable dictionary was created around 1998, possibly in response to a move to filter out the nasty words that had occurred a couple of years before hand
There was a bit of turmoil in scrabble back then, OSPD - official scrabble players dictionary, was based on 5 US collegiate dictionaries, but had some mistakes, and then got pressured to remove a bunch of offensive words, which caused some consternation amongst the scrabble tourney players
to the point that tournament players were running off of the Official Word List in 98 which was intended to put those words back in for tourney play
Alan Beale started up the enable project to better address the inconsistencies in the OSPD and became a popular dictionary for online games, and there has been updates since, but we appear to be using the 1998 version
So yes, two different dictionaries, though the version we are using appears to be from the same time period as the Official Scrabble Dictionary
from 1998
enable is also free to download and use, so that was one of the appeals to gaming sites
Thanks, I was aware that they were two different word lists. Glad you read up on it.
there are some ar6,21 words in today's grid.
I'm stuck on the last ar6 word
found it!
And my apologies, I had assumed they were the same as they almost are one for one on the words they allow/disallow, but clearly not

HI there, TO!
How are you doing?
i am ok and you?
just want to be done with this grid. ready for clues, i think
I am good as well. I just got started, only 23 words found. seems a bit hard.
"A bit hard' is an under-statement. I have been noodling away on and off all day, and I doubt that I will finish this one. Usually the grid has maybe 10-20% unusual words; this grid is more like 30-40%.
glad to hear. tought grid.
oh fun!
looking for mi6/33 anad feeling stupid
it's a fish Owl
oh hell. thank you.

yvw
did you get fw, Peri?
congrats peri and hello all...
Pen!
There are some seriously dedicated people who play this game, willing to try and make it through this one.
I am still trying to get half way. I am at 75 words.
I don't have the patience or the time to finish these grids anymore. I just can't work and work to find words that don't mean anything.
I think you just add IC to a bunch of words and then you find some more...
well i went through the list and still have 7 to find... :o(
ch 7/36?
I tried adding the IC to the word prior to that. It didn't work...
i tried that, too....
ja 7?
can't believe I almost missed the volcano!
i can relate....
well i only have those two left....ja 7 and ch 7/26....
really? HO 9 is a word?
sorry I can't help. wish I could. I still have 61 left.
apparently....it is in the dictionary as a verb...
i am done....used A to Z for the last two....
need anything before I go, phan?
I guess you could clue those words...
sorry....got distracted....still want clues?

ch 7.....tai ch* + zero....
thanks!
ja 7....most of what you use to prop your car up when changing a tire + vowel + what you might use to bring a fish to your boat after hooking it....
again, thanks!
could you clue the lonely N?
then I will have NBT ANd maybe the 8?
sure....no + manner of doing something.....go right and then left on the grid...
got it. thanks
ci 8.....firm hold or tight grip + m*** is a woman's name that ends in a vowel....
the first part could also be a slang word for something easy....
I got the first part, puzzling the name part
got it thank you!
I will probably call it quits soon.

start with ho6, person in charge or head ho*****, add a verb ending
got it ty enjoy your eveing
bye bye y'all (zoom)
Wow, what a (nasty) grid! Finally finished, but only by resorting to listing, and checking the A to Z lists. If it wasn't for quarantine, no way would I have invested the time to slog this one out.
i am still slogging only 29 left but it is taking forever
can anyone please help with oc7 44 and on5 12? last two
oc + consonant + wedding band
thank you Dorens! 1 word left, this is driving me crazy! I never finish the grid, except yesterday I did! so now I am up way too late, addicted!!

Thank you rururocks and Dorens, fireworks, I would probably have been up all night. Have a great night.

Hey, Ruru, did Rose contact about Flosey? I asked her to tell y ou about the two times Flosey (or someone using her computer) has been loged onl. The last time was last night.....other was a couple of weeks ago. I wrote to her online but no answer each time.....I told her that there were people here who were concerned about her. Don't know what is happening there.
logged. sorry, eyes are blurry.
