6:26 am

More snow is coming in the next 3 days.

6:27 am

Lovely, the Snowbirds are supposed to fly over today, hopefully it clears up a bit by 4PM.

I'm in the DC metro area. I heard western Maryland might see some snow this weekend. Yee Gods.

Great my son lived and worked in DC for quite awhile, Pentagon and State department.

7:00 am

DC is a nice city. I like the fact that you can see the sky there. Most other cities have tall buildings that block the sky.

7:49 am

Good morning, my chilly friends.

7:50 am

Good morning, frozen babblers. Does anyone have the stats for the h5 missing from Lickety?

he4/6x2

he5/14 he 5/22

7:53 am

I have an he4/8

tha should cover it.

7:54 am

The word totals are the same for both the grid and Lickety. Don't see how he could have a missing word...

not listed. cannot say

7:55 am

I haven't listed either, but looked at the word total for the list.

wow, you are a babble superstar!

sam, i hope you have your answer.

7:56 am

I can do without your snarky comments today, owl.

bea: not snark. i cannot do that kind of math. it's a challenge for me. but people are very on edge with all going on, not offendedl

more a word than a math person.

and sam, hope listing the he words helped. is there a missing word?

8:02 am

8:10 am

Every spring, mlf.

8:11 am

8:12 am

We use Terro bait traps. Very effective. Mr. Bea also spinkles ant bait around the foundation of the house.

I have also used Terro, it works great.

8:14 am

hubby uses raid

8:14 am

8:15 am

he also sweeps and vacuums them

8:15 am

8:15 am

8:16 am

front door or side door but this time by the front door and an area next to it as hubby took off the crown molding there(I forget why)

8:17 am

Sorry. Went away for awhile. My Lickety list shows 124 words and the grid shows 125. An H5 is missing, from the higher H.

8:18 am

They should go back underground after it dries up. They are being force to the surface by the wet soil.

good morning. fell back asleep this morning after taking the dog out and now I'm more tired than I was then.

8:29 am

Morning, Carla.

8:29 am

hokie I didn't want to get out of bed today

8:29 am

Did you get your Mom's quilt done?

i always miss those words because i want to get a word without the e. it's a kitchen appliance and maybe a trade name or too new for enable.

yes, and she got it on Th and said she loved it

8:30 am

Awe, good! I'm sure she was delighted.

8:31 am

hokie what kind of pattern?

8:31 am

Yesterday I got the binding on the scrappy quilt I've been working on and Mom has it now to hand sew the binding.

it was the brown bag mystery quilt pattern of 2018. I think it was called town square. I pieced this one before I knew what the finished thing looks like so I could've done the fabrics a little different, but it turned out good.

8:33 am

good morning all. it is 38 degrees with wind chill feels like 30 degrees!!!

that's nice, bea. I don't have the patience or ability to sew evenly to hand sew binding

8:33 am

oh glad you finished it:)

8:33 am

It is a cold one, for sure, Peri.

9:08 am

9:10 am

i'm baking a quiche this morning

9:10 am

Quiche is for real men.

9:10 am

:D

9:11 am

Do you make your own crust, ru? What is in your quiche?

I've got some butter out warming up to make choc. chip cookies. I just hope I have chocolate chips.

9:12 am

i buy the crust.. i'm not a great baker..this one has shallots, broccoli, white cheddar, red peppers and thyme

9:12 am

I have butter out to make my Momma one of her favorites, Applesauce Brownies. They are more of a cake.

9:13 am

I'm a baker and I still buy the crust. =)

9:13 am

i love apple anything

9:13 am

9:16 am

I thought you would have been good at pie crusts ru -- pastry isn't exact measurements -- good pastry is made by feel.

9:18 am

Mr. Bea's mom used sugar and cocoa.

9:19 am

that's what I thougt, ru - lol

then that is what they must be like. melted butter, brwon sugar, cinnamon over crust, roll, cut bake. i have some pie crusts that are form the stone age in the fridge and they are either used soon or go.

9:20 am

spread butter on the rolled out dough, sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon on top, roll it up and slice into 1" segmants, place on cookie sheet or pie plate with swirl side up and bake 10 min. at 400F

9:21 am

Make them like you would cinnamon rolls, Owl.

one good thing is i am eating less baked goods becae i am conserving butter and eggs. but i am eating more food stuff, so balnaces out.

9:22 am

Is PA, starting to open, owl?

i love to bake but at present only one other person to share with. somehow cakes never make it over there.

not SE PA.counties adjoining the city are lumped in with them. and i have not seen my MD friends since mid Feb.the woest is my best friend moving to Colorado and not being able to properly send her off.

9:24 am

I don't know if pie crusts that have been sitting in the fridge would work, TO -- make sure they are at room temp before you try to work with them. I have never used pie crusts from the store, so I don;t know what the texture would be like.

her mother was in a nursing home ther and died of the virus. just awful.

perhaps i will stick to king arthur pan cake. no eggs, no butter. but also no ice cream to top it.

or a nice olive oil cake. there always seems to be a ingridient lacking, like lemon and orange zest.

9:26 am

You should be fine with the dough. Let it set out and it will be easier to work with.

thanks. in thwo months have only baked half a recipe of oatmeal cookies and one chocolate pan cake.

i love that recipe

and it's vegan.

9:28 am

I admire your self control -- I live with a cookie monster so have been making 2 double batches of cookies per week.

9:28 am

i gave saanich a recipe for pork tenderloins yesterday and she said it came out perfectly

my cookie monster is 31/2 hours away.

9:29 am

how do you do them ru?

9:29 am

I am married to mine, TO

is it salt crusted? i want to try jose andres' salt crusted pork loin. but most of the small ones here are brined, i don't want that

ilove pork tenderloin, so many ways and so easy and great leftovers. i made one with 5 spice powder, baked on a rack. yum

9:30 am

I usually just bread them and fry them in orange infused olive oil -- looking for something different

9:30 am

fw

9:31 am

she asked for a simpler recipe.. so I roll them in olive oil, thyme, salt and pepper, minced garlic (one clove), minced shallot (small). and when ready to put in the oven.. i lightly dust with mustard powder and a little more pepper .. roast at 350 for 35 minutes (if smaller loins) and let rest for 7-10 minute

9:31 am

9:31 am

I have one I marinate and then make pan sauce to pour over. It is always a big hit.

9:31 am

what do you use in the marinade?

classic

9:32 am

sounds good, ru -- would leave out the mustard though - can't stand the stuff

9:33 am

oh.. it really adds a lot.. but you can do without

shprite sells the whole tenderloin with instuctiions on how to cut it- make chops, roasts, etc.

9:33 am

i love pork tenderloin

oh bea, you didn't remind me about tsar yesterday (or whatever day tetra was here too) and it was in my last 15 or so I had to use the list for

9:34 am

I will try it without --- I'm the one that had a hard time finding something to eat without mustard on it when we were in Lorraine

pork loves garlic, thyme and rosemary. i am sure there is a food netowrk recipe where you slather that on and roast. SIL made for some occasion, maybe christmas.

9:34 am

personally i love mustard .. so it's great for me

9:35 am

the trick TO is not TOO Much garlic as it's a delicate meat

don't like mustard either but have gotten to where I'll use it in stuff that calls for it.

9:35 am

Olive oil, soy sauce, red wine vinegar, Worchestershire sauce, minced garlic, dry mustard, chopped parsley black pepper is the marinade I use for my pork tenderloin.

9:35 am

i've never met anyone who doesn't like mustard

now you have! (kinda)

ru" there is no such thing as too much garlic. except mama rose's garlic knots. the garlic does nto cook enough to mellow on those baked tidbits.

9:36 am

did anybody see where I said I found a tw 5/18 6/30?

9:36 am

I'm sorry, Carla. That could have been the day I wasn't here long?

i love garlic on steak.

9:37 am

I love garlic powder

yeah, you little tw5

9:38 am

ohh now I know what it is lol

9:38 am

i didn't have pasta

i buy boneless chops, bread and freeze. having that tonight. add garlic and parmesan or romano and onion powder to the commercial crumbs. mist with ilive oil and bake till crispy.

9:38 am

And the tw6.33

i have changed to granulated garlic, i find a real differnce.

9:39 am

that t is greyed

9:39 am

thanks bea -- will try that tonight -- have all the ingredients in my pantry and parsley in the garden :)

I buy the little trays of frozen garlic where you just pop one out for one clove

9:41 am

the quiche is fantastic.. anyone want some?

cooking is instinctual whilst baking is scientific, don't you think?

yes, please, but I can't have the crust :(

9:41 am

love quiche

9:42 am

Nan, I save out a couple Tablespoons of the marinade to add to butter and chicken stock or broth to make the pan sauce to did the pork loin while eating.

I'm done here for today. I hope you all have a wonderful day...See you tomorrow.

I've seen it a few times, plus other american holiday baking shows. it's amazing to me what they can whip up without a recipe.

bye bea!

still 30 to go here

9:45 am

i cannot find anything off that fourth column e

oh, they have recipes. sometimes in the brit show, ingriedients or instuctions left out. and i believe they bring their own basics.

9:45 am

are you gluten intolerant, carla?

ep 6/24, & 2 ep 7/36's

yeah, the british baking show they use cookbooks, but the others they don't seem too.

i can do the pan cake and my sea salt olive oil cookies by memory

I have celiac, nan, so no gluten for me

and maybe my best, the pound cake.

9:46 am

I have a pastry recipe that works with gluten free flour if you are interested.

yeah, most of these contestants have their own bakeries or make stuff in their homes, so I'm sure they have their recipes memorized.

9:47 am

thanks love.. i have two of them

what kind of pastry?

i've seen lots of tortes made with almond flour or meal. the latest i want to try os torta caprese.

9:47 am

i think i am going to have to list .. i'm stuck at 10

9:48 am

i'm allergic to almonds

9:48 am

still have 68 to go -- too much chatting

i have a friend who bakes constantly. shares her failures, never afraid to try. that's the way

and my whole family are cookie monsters. they don't care if the cookies are gluten free, we eat a batch in a day

Just finished, any clues needed?

9:48 am

fearless cooking is the best TO

all tree nuts or just almonds?

9:49 am

this one is a sour cream pastry -- good with savoury pies.

almonds are the only nut I actually somewhat like

9:49 am

maybe that other ep7 ?>

yeah, doesn't sound like something I'd like or use, but thank you anyway.

i love almonds and almond flavoring. walnuts are a superfood and i eat them in my breakfast concoction.

add a vowel to the ep 6 for one and plural for another

9:49 am

ah i found it

I still don't have the ep's

9:50 am

walnuts would kill me

9:50 am

I just used the Robin Hood gluten free flour -- was making pastries for a cocktail party where I knew there would be someone who is celiac attending

are the ep's real words?

ah, tree but allergy. how do you dine out?

9:50 am

yes

have not seen that brand, must be canadian

9:51 am

thank you luv again

better batter is what I'm going to use for the cookies today. have not made them before but have used that for other recipes and it works well.

yw ruru. I'm off to start my day HAGD everyone

bye luv

bye luc

what is is made of, carla?

are you sure these are real words for the lexicographically challenged, ru?

9:52 am

The Robin Hood brand is a mixture of corn and rice flour I think.

9:53 am

yes

the better batter is rice, brown rice, & potato flours, tapioca & potato starches, xanthan gum & pectin

can you sub one for one in recipes? it sound interesing. have only ever tasted gluten free pretzels. yucky to me

it's from altoona, TO

hmm, wonder why i am suddenly starving for a piece of cake?

the thing about GF flours is there are all kinds of mixtures. some work better for subbing into cakes vs. cookies, etc. this one does say cup for cup sub.

I found a brand called Ryze at walmart a while back that has 2 different kinds and the bags tell you which baked good that version works for.

better batter I have to order from Amazon, even in regular times. It's not in stores here. but it's a 5 lb box with 4 separate bags, so it lasts a while.

good that it's so readily available now. I knwo c ouple of people with celiac each of them is rail thin. GUes because their diets are so limited re carbs.

I wish. people think gluten free is a weight loss diet, but that's not true at all. people that lose weight are losing it because they aren't eating carbs but there are so many gf mixes, products, etc, now and they are higher in sugar to make them taste better.

10:00 am

I found I had to cut back on the amount of liquid when using the gluten free for pastry -- the one I used calls for a mixture of sour cream and egg to moisten the crumbs.

10:00 am

the only people that should cut out gluten are celiacs. regular people still need it.

so i hear. some folks are crazy about excising it from their diets. but i heard it may aggravate IBS, which I have very badly.

10:03 am

and the fact it's trendy is a double-edged sword. more products in stores & menu items in restaurants, but the restaurants don't take cross-contamination seriously because they think you're just gluten free for fun.

10:03 am

same here TO -- why I make most things from scratch -- I can't tolerate dried or powdered onion and garlic, but ok with the fresh -- every commercial sauce has dried onion in it, I think!

yes, i 've read about it and saw how many products contain it that would not come to mind.

10:04 am

carla -- do you have a franchise called The Keg in your location?

oh well, time to move, will need winter coat hat and gloves for walking today. happy babbling

10:05 am

so, when I say right now is no different than my normal life re: restaurants and takeout, I mean it. I don't eat a lot from restaurants anyway. it's just such a chore to explain to the waitperson, etc.

10:05 am

we do not have The Keg

10:06 am

up to 53 here now, TO. and the sun helps.

10:07 am

I need to get busy too. got these cookies to make, and some more facemasks for a neighbor. saving 28 for later.

10:07 am

10:08 am

10:09 am

did I miss clues? or just stats?

10:09 am

ty both

10:09 am

too bad -- the only place my daughter will eat. She has printed the foods she is allergic to on a business card and when she goes into the keg she hands it to the waiter and says these could cause an anaphylactic reaction for me - what do you have that I can eat? At the Keg, the chef will come out to confer with her and assure her that he/she will prepare her meal himself and there will be no cross-contamination.

10:11 am

yeah, every time I've been to Disney, they've been great like that. the chef comes out and talks and offers to make me something special. My friend's daughter also has celiac and they have been to Disney since I have and now they've reverted to the CYA policy of "we cannot guarantee gluten free". So frustrating.

10:13 am

Celiac has become such a common thing, I am surprised more restaurants aren't prepared for it -- I can understand the McDonalds of the world, but not a decent restaurant.

10:13 am

did you tell disneyland that that is just goofy thinking?

10:14 am

and here we go...

10:14 am

we go to a restaurant near her beach house for our girls' weekend, and this past time (in Jan), the chef came out after our meal, and I told him I appreciated all the options they had. he said it was very easy to do, for instance the ones with sauces, he used corn starch instead of flour. he was french and it was all delish.

10:15 am

speaking of McD's, there isn't really anything here I can eat, but in Europe you can eat the french fries and they have GF buns, etc.

10:15 am

it's daffy, ru, I agree

10:15 am

6:31 pm

Need second......have ep + vowel + French mother

6:32 pm

That second ep 7/36 word is the plural of ep 6/24 word.

6:33 pm

Hi Uneaixoise! How are you doing today?Welcome to grid

6:34 pm

Thank you, MIn. I had paused for a delicious steak dinner cooked by husband...

6:35 pm

6:36 pm

The fi7/44 word is the plural of an fi6/30 word phandmd

6:37 pm

? how do you plural the plural of the fi 4?

6:37 pm

Tx min

6:39 pm

yw

6:40 pm

U plural the fi6 word, which is weird because I would not think of pluralizing a comparative phandmd. Plural fi6.

6:42 pm

I really don't understand. there aren't even two s's in touch...

6:42 pm

OH. There are 2 fi 7's , I need the last one.

6:45 pm

6:46 pm

I have the first fi 7, need the last FI 7 please

6:48 pm

That last fi 7/44 might be a pair of stockings for women.

7:40 pm

I would post the web link but I know it messes up the chat log. It's on the My Father's Place facebook page

you can go to tinyurl.com, enter the link and it generates a tiny link that you can paste in here without issues.

Hello Jeff7! How are you doing? Welcome to this puzzle.

7:48 pm

I'm always around somewhere lol

7:53 pm

Just saw your occupation in your profile. Do U work in a school? Are you doing sessions on Zoom or other platform

7:56 pm

I have been doing sessions individually for speech with most of my children. A couple do not do well with that format but most have been OK with it

7:56 pm

Not the best way to do speech therapy but it is much better than not doing it at all.

7:58 pm

That is true with the whole education system. Teaching online is not the best way, but it is better than nothing.

7:59 pm

It is the way of the world right now.

7:59 pm

prise

7:59 pm

oops

8:00 pm

What school district do you work for, if U don't mind me asking you? I teach ENL for Yonkers Public Schools in NY.

Can anyone help with the re7 (not the pt of re6/18)?

re + ri5, to have got up out of bed

8:26 pm

I have that one, but thanks.

i have tried a bunch of over-the-counter meds, and the one that works for me these days is called Cetirizine (or Aller-Tec at Costco)

8:27 pm

re7/40 is the comparative form of the re 4/7 word snark

oooh, TYVM min!

phantom empire

8:28 pm

Isn't Cetrizine the ingredient that is in Zyrtec BDG? I also take over the counter meds since I stopped getting shots

8:28 pm

yw

don't know about zyrtec but if it is, that explins why the Costo "version" is called Aller-Tec

(I generally avoid buying brand names that cost twice as much as the same thing in generic form)

8:30 pm

2 phantom words for me today were emperor & empire.

8:30 pm

Still not seeing it, but thank you.

re7 = re4 (sea creatures live there) + superlative ending

8:35 pm

re 7/40: if ocean has mo 4/5 re4/7s than another than it might be described as being re 7/40. It is twisty in grid.

8:36 pm

Very twisty. Thank you both.
