hi all, back for my last 8
FWs...last word se 8..to do with stamps.
Latin words for flowers stump me every time. I don't know how people memorize them all.
Tooty is too a word!
... tutti
I was thinking of what I called my babies when they had a little gas...
...ah yes
I once was friends with someone who did daycare. When one of her kids farted, she said he "let a bumble bee". : D
How cute.
She was from Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She had some back country sayings for a lot of things. I still say them and she is long passed.
Well, have all the 8/9/10/11 so they must not be that hard. : D
I'm almost there.
Was your latin flower an 8?
Yes, and we have had it several times. I just can't keep most Latin committed to memory. Some words, some phrases, but that's it.
My oldest was an honors Latin student in high school. But he didn't get that from me. : D
What does the latin flower start with, please?
al
Mmm...at a loss with no M in the puzzle
good morning only have 2 of the 7's nothing bigger
It's Latin for Rose of Sharon
I thought it was the mallow plant?
Nevermind...
The Master Gardener needs more coffee : D
But hey, I learned what a mallow plant is
Same genus, just different species.
This is where I get all tangled up with Latin
hello
To5/14? Seriously? What is that? A combination plaything and Crayola?
Of course, it's another gardening term : D
does the no10 begin with the prefix for not?
Yes

clue the no10 pls?
Too early to clue.
Pull out more words.
pull out more words?
Use morewords to find it.
wow, it's too early for me to even notice there's a 10 and 11
Morning, Carla.
You know all these players that have to have NBT and NBS right off the bat...Whether they have to beg, borrow or steal...
hokie I didn't even notice at first either
Hi all....any clues please for the no10/11?
flask it starts with the prefix for not
but that's all I know
Some one who watches the Olympics.
thanks MLF...
yw flask
that is a spectator isn't it?
sorry, I hid so I could look for words, morning!
morning hokie:)
I know, Carla. That's why I am reluctant to clue the big ones any more. I know a lot of accomplished players like to find thme on their own.
90% of the time I need help on big ones but sometimes they're easy and I wish I'd seen them first.
I agree hokie
I also think about those in other US time zones that don"t have a chance because they are all clued .
I guess they don't have to look at the chat. But why play the game if you have to have half of the words clued.
I do like chatting with y'all
I do too. Which is what the original intent fo the chat was, i think.
and I don't mind the clues, I just got here too late this morning ;)
Wow! Its a bit rich criticizing people for asking for clues.....while the same critics are just as bloody guilty....AND you lot should also remember that it is not only Yanks that play this game...but we come from all over the world....and different time zones!!
ok, so I just had this beyonce song stuck in my head that is in the grid but I didn't have the word yet
Calm down dear
Sorry jaxx7....it had to be said!
sorry, I wasn't criticizing you as much as saying I didn't want to read the chat yet
Carla....it wasn't aimed at you...you weren't having the conversation
I'm sorry, Flask. I hardly ever ask for clues. Maybe when Im down to my last two or three...
not sure I've ever seen bea ask for a clue
and I just found an 8/9!
I stopped babbling over a year..because of some of the regulars attitudes....it would appear nothing has changed! And thats a shame, because a lot of people get a lot of fun here....but its the same few that are allowed to air their arrogance and bullish behaviour!
who's arrogance?
Sorry ru....am spouting no names...they know who they are!!
Me apparently, ru.
i can see both sides of it really. It does get to be too much the constant clue fest in the chat...I like to wait until i can't find something for sure before I ask for a clue
bea didn't say anything that hasn't been said, nbt/nbs is a made up construct, you don't get any extra points or anything here, so it's a nice goal to strive to but does it mean anything if you are asking for words just to get to that? everyone likes to play their own way. that's fine, but doesn't mean everyone else understands it.
and like ru said, I like to wait for last resort, and sometimes even then I'll just look words up. The other day I looked up like my last 10.
I am one of those people who like to find words on my own. So if there is a lot of cluing going on, I turn off the chat. On the occasional times that I'm up at the flip, I turn off the chat. I don't understand all the clue blurting that goes on at flip time. A while back, it used to be "wait an hour before you give or ask for clues".
flask I agree with what you said about criticizing people
I do the same ru.....I've seen me sitting for half an trying to get a word before asking....I am very competitive...
id o the same flask though if it is a word I need to finish a letter maybe I wont wait "too long":)
Sadly it does happen MLF!
yes it does
that's funny, molly. I was just going to say I guess I should play at the flip every night since those people mean business! they call the big words but rarely do I see other clues or any kind of chatting.
MLF, you start asking for clues as soon as you open the game.
sometimes i strive for at least nbt that's not a crime
No it's not a crime. But what good does it do you?
'#
Well, it's the calling the big ones that I don't care for. I think they are the challenging part of the game and I would like a chance to find them without people blurting them out two seconds after the game starts. So it's a good feature that you can turn off the chat.
in some cases just because you get a clue doesn't mean you get the word right away ultimately its the person who is trying to figure a word/words out
I do like to play "bea guesses my missing words"
good point, molly
me too
they do seem to want to be the first one calling it
i stopped playing at the flip because of that
i miss being at the flip
I wouldn't like to play at the flip....
I don't have a problem with people asking for the occasional clue. But there are some who ask for way too many. If that is going on, I turn off the chat. And Flask, I don't think any of this conversation was directed at you. I don't think you are a player who constantly asks for clues.
it was fun
thanks Molly!
I do ask for clues, sometimes...and sometimes I ask for stats, and sometimes I don't at all - it depends on my mood. And yeah, privately I sometimes roll my eyes at folk who need many, many clues or where sometimes it's tempting to just say "THE WORD IS THIS!"...but I don't, because it's not fair. Everyone plays differently. Some folk feel mortified if they resort to morewords, others are happy to use it, seeing it as another tool for solving (I'm somewhere in between). So whilst I do occasionally roll my eyes, I do not allow myself to 'feel superior' (or I try not to) or to snap at the folk who need many clues. I've absolutely no doubt I annoy people sometimes, so who am I to judge! Peace :)
yeah, I wish I could do the flip every night, but 1am is rough
And I still haven't found the flower ;)
agreed, matty ♥
well said, matty.
lol
i don't mind if you ask for clues matty:)
and I just have to say I just grayed the top row H ;P
hokie we go to be earlier .. we he wants to.. so i don't do filp anymore:(
I think what really changed for me was when I realised I don't HAVE to finish. I actually stopped playing for a while because it was becoming a chore - if I started I had to finish. Now...I don't. If I finish, great, if not, that's cool too
hokie congrats
could you rewrite that a bit mlf?
bed
I know you all don't do acronyms, but it would be great if you would stop calling MLFAN MLF. don't ask why.
is that what you mean ruru?
thats how I play it Matty....its just a game after all to be enjoyed by one and all
i like ml better actually lol
WHY???
but mlf i understand might look umm different in the chat
will now start using HO for hokie
rotfl ruru
:D
oh well ml it is!
flask:)
google MILF and you will see why
flask i think it might look like MLF has a vowel after the m? i am not sure if that is the reason but yeah i like ml beter:)
M L F
Yeah, but we don't call her MILF, we call her MLF.
that's what i just said:)
at my age mothers and grandmothers are all that's left :D
okay i gtg will be back..
Well am gonna be good and just call her ML...
A long time ago, back in the early days of email, I kept getting spam (everyone did). One item of spam invited me to view some lovely MILFs. Well, I didn't have a clue what that was, so I looked it up. In addition to the...er...rude meaning, it turned out it was also an acronym for a militant islamic indonesian group/front. I can imagine their surprise when they tried googling their own name
lol carla, when Sarah Palin had her 15 minutes of fame that I became aware of that term and didn't know what it was so I asked my teenaged son. Needless to say he wouldn't tell me!
mmm... I get major league football, major league fishing, mutant liberation front, morning line favorite...
yes, but doesn't your mind fill in a vowel with MLF?
it stands for MeatLoaf Fan.. like the singer
ha! luv & matty
OH!! I just tried it with the i. Okay. I get it.
Actually, I never thought about it until you mentioned it. I know her name stands for Meat Loaf Fan, and I can't bring myself to type that one.
I'm pretty sure she said Major League Fan, like baseball, once upon a time
now i wonder what's for breakfast :D
but I always made an effort to spell out the whole thing. now I will just go with ML
it's meat loaf hokie. 100%
Nope, it is Meat Loaf. I'm sure of that.
Am a big Meatloaf fan too....
well, I def. saw her say major league once, so maybe she is just messing with us at various times
i see things sometimes too hokie .. :D
one of my really good friends has a little shit-poo named Meatloaf (and yes, I just love saying shit-poo)
Carla, we have had conversations with MLF about Meatloaf. It's not Major League.
haha, ru
and I'm telling you I have had one with her re: major league. she must've been trolling me then.
*whistles*
she'll be back after ravioli and let you know
lol
Yeep - I almost missed the volcano (I hate it when I miss common or easy words or common bablets). That's even worse when I ask for stats for a letter and it turns out the word is a no brainer
usually if I get the poker bet I get the volcano
Is the 10 / 11 a word I'm likely to run into in day to day life? (Not asking for a clue!)
Where there is the wager, there is the volcano. Where there is saliva, there is gratuities. Where there is the word on a red traffic sign, there is what goes with pans.
no
I hate when I ask for a clue and I still can't get...I sometime actually squirm at the thought of asking for it be explained further....
that's when I just look it up, flask
or I explain that I am slow and need more clues (and yes, I say I'm slow pretty much every day)
But when you are giving the clue you're usually thinking - bah, that's no good, they'll never get that, why can't I think of something better?
yes, I am really happy when someone actually gets my clue
Aye...sometimes I just don't get it...
Many of the clues will lead you to the word if you do a Google search on "crossword clue" and then add the clue given.
Somebody asks for a clue and I type the clue..then look up and I have been pipped at the post...lol
also gotta know your audience. usually my clues are pop culture related but I know who they don't work for
good morning everyone :)
Morning nan
I suspect everyone can get annoyed/frustrated or whatever sometimes - either because they don't get a clue, or because someone asked for a clue, or because they're just having a really awful day. Also, we have no tone of voice here - so if someone says (not that anyone has - I'm making this up) - Really? You need a clue for that? - that could be tongue in cheek - perhaps should have an LOL or something after it or...not. It can be so hard to tell.
howdy
you're just full of good points today, matty :D
Now that I've set the world to rights :D....I'm going for a walk. See ya later (still not found that NO11 or whatever it is, but it can wait. Or maybe I just won't care - depends on how early I hit thte beer) :)
bye!
bye matty
Carla - just followed you on Instagram - when you see the pop up I reckon you'll be able to work out that it's me ;)
thanks for the heads up!
easier
Ooops!
see, I don't mind the occasional easy word accidentally typed in here. didn't have that and it's so twisty I probably wouldn't have seen it!
lol
Can I please just ask.....does the no10/11 start with the top N or the N in the middle?
I don't have it, but I only have 1 middle n left, so it's prob from the top
either. so top
it comes from the top
is it chemistry, botany, foreign currency, or archaic scots?
i haven't found any of the other biggies though
not seeing it either -- is it a word in common usage? does it begin with a negative?
I found an 8/9 ru if you want to know what it starts with
yes it begins with a negative. common. I'm one.
interesting, I thought I read earlier it wasn't common
sure go ahead hokie
an8/9
mmm - I could stand to be one who doesn't consume food, but that's not it!
I started seeing nonlethal, but lethal isn't there
thanks.. i'll look for it
you'll probably smack your forehead when you find it
hokie, are you saying the an8/9 has something to do with the no10/11? .... Because I have the no 10/11 and there isn't an 'an' in it.
got the AN8/9 - thanks carla
np
ah.. got it
nope, ch, that was independent clueing for ru, who already has the no10/11
ah.... I figured I missed something. As usual! lol!
grayed the middle n! now I"m getting somewhere ;)
don't have the an either an not getting anywhere with them -- going to need a clue please

I still don't know it
ah - didn't have the root for that one either - ty ru and bea
spectator isn't in the grid
ML...now thats a nice defination...
Then that must not be the word...
Try a person who doesn't do sports at all

Try finding at8.45
Or even at7.32
one who isn't a sprinter, hurdler, pole vaulter or anything else that happens on a track of field

1st pass done - thanks for the help - bbl for last 60 - have a great day all and stay safe
omg okay I am laughing at myself seriously? I found it
Well done!
thanks flask!
ah.. found the other 10
stats?
what does it start with ruru/
fun grid. I like grids with lots of anagrams.
ha10/84
it will knock you out when you find it
hmm, not halitosis
hah, hokie carla, beat me to it!
I have slowed down, maybe stopped, but made it to 35 left
i'm stopped at 25 to go
ok, must keep looking. (yes, I like to use you and moo and others as benchmarks)
have to remember ru gives cryptic clues
I've "surrounded the ha 9/10 and still haven't a clue. . .
he didn't say "mama said knock you out" at least (a song)
XD
still trying to figure out which h it begins with
have discovered it's not when an angel cries
2nd row H, I know that
melon the 10 & 11 are what an angelic MacBeth would wear in heaven and plural
2nd col
I think that H is the correct one as the 9/10 is somewhere between angel head gear and . . . stop!
I have the top H grayed out, so it's def 2nd col
in the name of love! or hammer time!
[humming "Brush Up Your Shakespeare"] #theresashowtuneforeverything
still missing two 8's
still missing 3 here
ah just got the macbeth reference -- melon - macbeth was known as the ***** of cawdor
I mean, carla -- ty for the clue melon
ah!
well, it's not if ah-nahld was an angel
nm -- getting mixed up bet. who is giving clues and who is hunting clues :)
oddly enough, I was looking at those first four letters as a chem prefix, and missed it. I shoulda turned left. . .
maybe hold off on clues a bit now
not really up on my shakespeare since it's been almost 30 years since I was in high school, and I'm moving on, so no new clues needed, but thanks
Ah, found another VOC, et7!
have that one!
we went to cawdor on one of our trips - only reason I remembered it
How was Cawdor?
sun's out. I'm going for a solo walk. pleasant day/eve/whatev, all!
same to you!
i swear some of these grids if you put in every babblet you know you're half way done
true
typical scottish castle -- built of stone, big hall where everyone but the laird ate and slept, lots of sheep
yeah, I still have 9 4's left. should work on that.
one four here
at least cawdor had a roof on it!
I loved the huge tree inside the middle of the castle going through the roof.
maybe someday I'll get to travel there
was that the one with the tree growing through the roof? -- had forgotten that
my scottish cousin claimed that in Scotland buildings are only considered ruins when the walls are all less than 2 feet high :)
found my last 8
nice
found 1 easy 4 I'd missed
taking a break -- hagd if I don't see you later
So MLF, did you ever clarify that your name stands for Meatloaf Fan?
has she been back?
yes......cyber
grayed the smaller L with a missing 4
ty for the ha 9/10
yes I have molly:)
A lot of people kept thinking Maple Leaf fan.
I swear one night like last year you said major league, which I know you like pro sports but didn't think anyone was that big of a baseball fan. I think you were messing with me!
hokie no I am not a baseball fan
haha I asked that same question a couple of years ago
i only watched it regularly for a very short period of time and a long time ago lol
maybe someone guessed that and I read it wrong. if I had nothing but time on my hands I'd read through the chat logs for the last 2 years ;)
I know she isn't a baseball fan. She likes football.
true
it's like I don't even know you at all
three to go but the dog is bugging me
aww poor dog
wow. still 30 left here. still 6 4's!
hi all
and on cue, my dog just came up and nudged my arm
fisnished the Hwords
found one more 4 but still 5 out there. geez
you could read through the chat archives hokie...several other players do.. scanning for stuff
my last h word was a 4
yeah, I'll do that when I really give up before going to the list
no .. i meant for years and years :D
You know, to prove you're right about Major League Fan
haha, yes, I could. I have looked back at some of the ones from before my 6 or 7 year hiatus to see who all was here then
and yes I already said if I had nothing but time I'd do that
dog just started throwing up. he eats mulch when we're out at the pool. :<
guess I will break and bbl for the last 27
Molly, just saw your comment this morning about your friend from BSG. That is the county next to where I'm from. I have not heard the bumble bee thing, will have to ask my mom if she has.
BSG? Battlestar Galactica?
:D, love that show! but no, Big Stone Gap, Va. It is a town, I meant to say IN the county next to mine.
matty, I'm wearing a Firefly shirt today :D
I swear, we're long lost sisters ;)
it says "Shiny" and each letter is a character. actually the N & Y are 2 each
So, so cool
agreed. it is a woot shirt, but I'm guessing you all can't get those. (from woot.com)
hi all did I miss a clue for the ha 9/10 looked back in the chog and did not see anything. I walked at least 2 miles again today.
it is a lovely day here
nice walk! there are a couple of clues, but nothing that worked for me. just thinking it will come to me eventually.
ok will keep looking I have nothing bigger than a 7
an8/9 is pretty easy
ok will look for them now
nice here too in the shade - already 80 though
Apparently the shirts do ship internationally, but I imagine shipping costs a bomb
ty for an8/9
yeah i saw someone say thanks for ha8/9 but then i didn't see an actual clue before that
probably. they used to just be one shirt a day, then they started adding all these other categories and I think amazon bought it.
Angelic headwear for MacBeth?
well, a couple mentioned it starts with angel headgear
someone threw in a macbeth clue
ah thanks
i saw macbeth stuff but just figured th5
so, you're saying the th5 is the rest of what I need?
got em
not me
Just got a ha9/10 combo from that. Thanks
that is a word I get when it's here but didn't know what it meant
Still missing the ha8/9 though
there isn't one
am I the only one that did not get the ha9/10?
the 9's are an8/9 and ha9/10
I'm confused. I thought that is what was being clued
no
sorry, i had THOUGHT someone said ha8/9, but it was really 9/10, my fault, blame hurshy
Ok thanks
I am on my deck and some swarm of bug is all over. keeps flying into the vents on my laptop too.
I hope it's not termites - long skinny wings
so, do we know the 10 and 11?
NO. (as in, we know, it's an NO)
I am still working on the ha 9/10 can someone pls help me here
NO 10 &11
No 10 & 11 no sports events you could say.
Angelic headwear + less *** or greater *** + vowel?
aha, that's FOUR words, lol
thanks zooz
Welcome.
bbl
Thanks zooz
Could I have a clue for the an8/9 please
animal with a long snout
Doh. Thanks
say, the left A, i have al4/4 and al5/10, can't see what else is there
It's an al7 - 8 combo - a plant, apparently, a flower. I had to cheat on that one, in all truth
It's latin
thank you!
i thought of the 6 version but i forgot we can have it with the extra a thrown in
ty hurshy - that helped
just one 8 left now
well now I know my missing a's from there
just a matter of finding them (or looking them up)
think I'm going to throw in the towel and go the list. really stuck at 21
down to 16 here
two of them are 8s!
I still have 5 4's! also 2 8's
Could I have a clue for the first column o please?
man's name
ot4
it's a palindrome
Thanks
yes, it was the name of one of TinyKittens' palindrome kittens :D
For those who don't know, palindrome is a word spelled the same forwards and backwards.
or a number that is the same b & f
4004
yes
need help with a puzzle I'm working on -- what is the source of "avatar" and "swami" -- think it is a disney thing
and if a number isn't a palindrome, if you reverse it, and then add the two numbers together, and you repeat the process as needed, you will always eventually reach a palindrome!
I think they are Indian words Nan
avatar is a movie, disney has an avatar land now at animal kingdom
i would think those were words from hindi, yeah
not sure how swami would relate to avatar in that sense
I'm sorry Hursh, that is WAY too math nerd for me.
was there a movie that had avatars and swamis?
aladdin maybe for the swami
indiana jones?
like, 57 isn't a palindrome. reverse it to 75, and add. that makes 132. sill not a palindrome. reverse THAT and add, 132 +231 = 363. palindrome!
ty - gives me some ideas
is it a crossword, nan? maybe if you tell me the exact clue
groan... was missing an ea6, and it couldn't have been ea6
that was the clue -- it is a spiral puzzle that is a palindrome (half the clues are from the outside in and the other half from the inside out)
i do not recall any movie having both
which makes me think that hindi is more on the right track -- need a 6 letter word
don't know why onesie isn't a word -- they've been around since the 60's
hmm, not aladdin then
found the dock - my last j - don't know why it took so long
so far my missing 4's are babblets
going to list - can't think today
struggling thinking with the list
2 of my missing are 6/18s, how hard is that?
yeah i can't get this one se5/10, how dumb is that
there are 3 se5/10 - babblets, latin pl etc
no, i was just not lining up my words right with the list
which is even dumber
at6/18 and re6/18 are my dumb ones
got the re!
dumb
missing the first at 6
of course the at6 is the babblet I always miss. just looked it up. reminds me of the city of ATL
now have a 7 and an unrelated 8 left
yes - I know there is a babblet like that, but not coming up with it
RE avatar and swami - I'd guess it's a language clue - i.e. both words originate from the Sanskrit
you just repeat the same three letters again, cnan
oh, the at is a spear thrower
thought it started with the same 3 as the georgia city
just looked up se7. whatever.
May I have a clue for the NO10/11?
a person that isn't good at sports
description of one who is not active in sports
giving up on the at 6
and looked up my last one but still fireworks. TTFN!
you literally repeat the airport code for the city I put in and will probably get yelled at for
The first three letters are the same as the last three letters
ty -- not the word I was thinking of - don't think I've seen this one before
st
and btw, I did not notice it was a repeat of letters until hurshy said so
le 5/10 before jay?
nm - got it
Doesn't TTFN mean Ta Ta For Now?
clue please for se7?
and the se 8 please?
found the no10/11 but still not the ha9/10
finally got9/10 the ha
finally got the ha 9/10
