nbt, nbs
Thanks. I'm shocked, honestly.
hello everyone :)
Hi Nan
hi, nan
Clues are up
thanks, lickety
Thanks, Lickety
this one is going to be tough -- still don't see that 10 that freep spotted right away
I retired after that. That is why I haven't found anything else worthwhile. Uh huh. that's why. :-)
it seems that I've retired after 66 words!
The rest will be here when you unretire tomorrow!
I've come to the conclusion that the tr 10 is something I've never seen or heard before
you may have. it is not a common word, and I didn't find it by looking for it... but once I started going, it rang a bell
mi7, btw
only 7's I have are re and wi
It's a three-armed symbol - might be Celtic?
Spiral arms radiating from the centre.
(I'm referring to the tr10.)
I thought you were talking about me again!
:)
monkeyed it - wow - nothing I've heard of before
tr 10 was the name of my starship in a Trek role playing thread at scifisites years ago...
Well, now you have it. Join me in retirement?
yes -- good night everyone :)
Good night, nan
finally. that h tile is nasty....
cooee and g'day from me
yes it is
how are we all doing today/night?
ok here, ty....
hy 7, hy 5...
searching for ice cream here, ty
hy 5 x 2...
ditto. my brain is confused. we have just started winter and we are having lovely spring like days, although no warmth. so my brain has said...look spring time. let's start spring cleaning...loll... i can't turn it off.
freep, i have plenty of the yummy stuff. want some? what would you like ?? oh dear... now i want a banana split....hmmm
I WANT ALL THE FLAVORS!!!! (except some)
Thank you
(I have found some peanut butter cup ice cream. It'll do)
honeycomb ? rocky road? plum pudding?
nice freep
I'd pick rocky road from that trio
well i will save the last 29 for tomorrow....goodnight all....
sweet dreams pen dear.
ty rose....bye...
night, pen
I am toddling off myself. Night, granny rose (and any else lurking!)
sweet dreams to you also freep honey. catch you at the flip. xox
good morning all
no way there are two k words from that k there
okay, there is one
whaddayaknow, there ARE two. Whowuddathunk.
insekt, inkline...
Hi there Sprite! **hugs**
hi Kam *hugs back* How are you and Michael doing?
Hanging in. I'm still waiting for it to be safer to go shopping and such, and sitting home is not helping. Are you doing a lot better? I hope so!
had a bit of a relapse again. It is a darned flu, for sure. Almost impossible to pace yourself just enough.
hola
sorry to hear things are still so scary overthere. Here, we can go to stores safely now. All at 1.5m distance, of course.
hi kje :)
hi sprite - good to see you
great to see you too. I hope you are well?
yes. you?
Darn, sorry to hear you had a relapse. After all of the protests and people gathering for the Memorial day holiday, cases have increased greatly over the past 72 hours.
recovering from the covid flu. It is taking a long time. But happy to be alive and grateful things weren't as bad as they might have been.
the protests are troubling indeed. On one hand, a thing worth protesting against. But health-wise not a good idea.
my daughter and her beloved both debated going to the protests here, but decided against it because of the health risks, to themselves AND others.
sorry to hear that, sprite - but glad you are doing better
thanks kje. Great to hear you are doing well.
thankfully, here, there has not been a sppike in cases. The protestors have done a fairly good job here of complying with masks and the 6 ft rule, but it is likely to early yet to tell
yeah, it will take about a week to start having symptoms if you attrack the virus.
I still wear a mask when I have to go to the store, but people aren't paying attention to distancing. Trying to get to the meat counter is crazy. I saw so many protest photos that had people crammed together and not wearing masks - and then all the rioting at night. That seems to have calmed down, but even some of our small local towns have had to put curfews in place - out-of-town folks came in buses to protest here! It has been crazy, since we're not too far from some of the roughest cities in Calif.
that is scary stuff, Kam, so sorry
kje, do you live in the City itself?
yes
Most of the large problems I heard about happened in the East Bay, Stockton, and Sac
and looks like you live with the famous frog...
ohhhh great 10 letter word!
No frog jump this year, but I do have lots of frogs in my garden and greenhouse. I love listening to them sing.
that's pretty much teh extent of my knowledge re calaveras county
oh I know, right? Such a lovely sound. And our dog loves frogs. He enjoys making them jump in the water, lol.
I haven't found it yet, sprite... stats?
tr10/98
hmmm... ok, looking
not a word you use daily, but a great find
hmmm
ok, got it, but only bc of the points
wow well done!
I atually do not know that word
but knew it had to use the high point
it is interesting. You will find them in the device of Isle of Man and of Sicily.
will google later
makes for an interesting read :)
It's also a word used in the title of an original series Star Trek episode (The Gamesters of Tr10)
oh that is a great title :D Hiya matty, good to see you. Are you and yours okay?
Hiya! Yep, we're hanging in there. Tired. Jeff's daughter moved in with us on Sunday so that will be interesting to see how that plays out. Tilly's doing great and growing like a weed. All is well!
that is good news :) *hugs* and good luck with adapting to having Jeff's daughter living with you .
How are you and yours?
fw
the last one was the steak
we are all okay now
wtg kje!!!!!!!!!!!!!
any clues bf I go to bed?
wtg!
fireflies here as well. My last one was the climbing plant thingy.
yay sprite!!!
wtg Sprite!
I'm going to go watch the TV and return to this in the morning.
whoa !!! how lucky am i??
well on that high note, I will say goodnight
back to resting here for me, I will leave you in kje's capable cluing hands. *hugs* to my friends, to you all a blessed day and a peaceful night, and leaving an extra big hug in chog for rose to find.
rose!
night kje, sweet dreams
Take good care, Sprite.
take care, sprite
cooee SPRITE !!!
*hugs rose until she squeaks*
hi and bye granny
hello my darling friend. * SQUEAK*
HEY AND BYE KJE
whatcha been up to honey?
oles
oops
Hi Rose!
{{{{kam}}}}}
better do {{{{{sprite}}}}}} so no favouritism....loll
Morning Rose
lots of resting here, rose, had another relapse. Waking up with cramped muscles in the night. Back to using magnesium :)
tsk. Hugging me last. Evil woman.
atta girl with the magnesium. poor you. me too.... wretched muscle spasms are killing both of us because when i yell he has to get up and come round and help me to stand
hey, i always save the best for last...
good save!
*did i get away with that?*
How's Melbourne?
loll... yup... it would appear i did....
yeah you did, lol
aw poor rose :( That sucks big time, honey.
latest news for me, i have made up my mind. doc john has applied to workcover for nerve stimulator.
hey Matty. cold but sunny....
and because my brain sees sunshine it says time to spring clean. and i KNOW winter has only just started.
In May we had fabulous weather but alas, no more. It's overcast and coolish
oh wow rose, you are my hero. Well done on that decision. I know that wasn't easy.
so now our bed has been cleaned from top to bottom, from under to over. if it was washable it has been washed... i have also cleaned up two HUGE piles of papers which have been two years in the making.
tell your brain to shut the beep up. No cleaning. Take care and don't overdo things
and with Don's help, have started re-organising kitchen cupboards.
is he behaving? :)
just maybe, sprite, my brain knows when i have the procedure done i will be out of action for some time.
too bad, matty :( Weather is up and down here as well
as long as you are careful with yourself, rose
strange you should ask that, sprite. yes he is. has come all over sweetness and light.maybe him hearing me telling my gp that the level of analgesia i am on only keeps me pain free if i am sitting quietly. as soon as i stand the pain starts.
very good, that is as it should be. With Don, I mean, definitely not with your pain levels.
i worked it out, about 20 feet of walking and that's when my knees start to buckle because of the pain.
*hugs rose and sends her healing vibes*
thank-you honey. but my troubles are so small to others. i see you had a relapse. please be careful of you. you are my only bestie and i need you around for a while yet.
no worries, rose, those relapses are not at all dangerous. I am way past the danger zone, all that is left is recovering. Rebuilding condition, retraining muscles. Slow and frustrating but definitely not something to worry about!
ouch, 20 ft, that is not much.
i still haven't really come out of isolation yet. Don does all the shopping stuff. i am only venturing out for appointments. oh, and that reminds me... our local hot water pool has reopened. i must ring and book myself some time there. they are only allowing a few people in at a time.
very good, rose. You should be extra careful, you can definitely not afford to catch anything on top of your burden. The pool sounds good, nice for your muscles :D
you are able to get out and enjoy a little bit of sunshine aren't you? i know you react badly to direct sunlight but surely the warm air would be beneficial for you.
we bought ourselves a parasol. Yes I am going out with terra daily, and I try to sit outside whenever the weather allows. Crazy low on energy though, so it is hard to get myself moving.
oh and did i tell you about my friend up in QLD? the one who had breast cancer surgery and ended up with a huge gaping wound post-op.
no? Omg poor lady :(
i went up there and stayed with her just as covid-19 broke out. apparently my wound care regimen and training her daughter how to continue on, has paid off.
we came home beginning of April. at her last appointment at out patients clinic her wound had completely healed. the surgeons were gob-smacked. they honestly thought she was going to have to have skin grafts.
the nurses at the clinic were tututting and tskking about my unorthodox regimen. Sue and i kept getting the giggles about them. those nurses were so unable to think laterally.
oh wow rose, well done! Your friend is lucky to have you.
i have to admit to feeling some pride in that i was able to save Sue the angst of skin grafts. not huge blow myself up with pride. just quietly satisfied with my work.
honey, I have to go and lie down. *hugs* and I am so glad we got to connect at last. *hugs* to you both. And *hugs* to Kam and matty too. Poof!
are you still doing your crystal art?
crystal art?
hugs sweetheart. thanx for staying to chat and catch up. rest well my darling
i can't remember what it's called... where you put all tjose tiny bits of coloured plastic/glass and make pictures.
granny its called diamond painting
May I have stats, please, for the E in the bottom row?
en 4/4
Slap me with a wet fish
oooo I got the 10 all by myself :D
can anyone help me with the 10 plese
no idea - sorry. 36 to go here
no idea -tried lots of combinations
I don't have it either
Sorry droma....I have it....I looked it up...but don't know how to clue it...
tr 10/98 - has to do with a shield apparently - starts with the 3 plus what looks like an odd spelling of a spring onion
nice clue ursh. ty
OMG!
t+ word that means chance of loss + vowel + king of the jungle
yeh ursh....good clue...:)
great clue ursh ty
hi wv and flask
It is a Celtic symbol, I think Bugsaw has one as her icon
Hi ml...are you well?
Flask I am good how are you?
33. bbl!
hi all
hi jmc
ty for the 10 molss what a great way to start a grid
gj jmc:)
thank you
What's that proper name: 1992 role for Joe Pesci as a NY lawyer heling his cousins in
in Alabama
My Cousin Vinny
ding ding ding
loved that movie
It was the last movie I watch with my husband and it so track his experience in the panhandle of Florida that we both laughed our asses off!
Marissa Tomei was fantastic in that film
the casting was brilliant
Tr. 10/98 . Look up Isle Of Man -flag symbol. (Another clue )
i hope zooz reappears here.. i know he was embarassed about posting a swear word in the chat accidentally ... speaking of Isle of White
Isle of Wight
I would think most of us have read swear words before. No reason for zooz to be embarassed. I even use them from time to time!
sorry, need more coffee
vi 5/18, pls
... vi + males
tyvm dose
Greetings, y'all.
hi judi
Jeeze, I just had to go back to see what Zoom said. Shit is really not that bad of a swear word. There have been far worse in this chat. Come back Zoom, we miss you.
it is an accepted word in the grid to boot
couldn't a chicken comedian be a yolkster?
And he posted it in the chat because it was in the grid. He just posted in the wrong box. It wasn't like he was actually saying the word. Although, big whoop if he did.
My thoughts exactly, Ru.
Didn't she get an academy award for her role in that movie?
hi judi
she did.. and deserved it too
one of the years Meryl Streep didn't win :D
So, Zoom is in self-imposed purgatgory because he saw/typed in the Sh word? Whaaa?
she is one of those great actresses whose career I don't understand what happened to it?
her's was in a supporting role.
'morning, babblers
hi welki
morning welk
i see wolvie gets the tiara but won't wear it because there's too much snark around here :D
she's in the King of Staten Island that just came out
welkie the saab has died
<---never liked saabs
but the boy is happy with his motorcycles and I am happy with my Tesla
no taste ru
you mean people with saabs ?
nope I means you :P
it was a great car, jm - i was sorry to see ours go, too. we had so many of them!
most people with saabs start dating tow service guys
I look at a saab and sob
my ex had a saab and it was a pos
but I don't drive so it doesn't matter
me too. my 2005 lasted 14 years
au contraire, ru - we had very few problems with ours, not one tow
more than 300,000 miles
that's good:)
jmc DAMN!
the saab is gone?!
you should play the lottery more often welki
i burnt out the clutch once slipping on rotten peaches on a hill
jmc a saab?
oh, i lie - there was a tow in 1997 when i was driving through ontario in the dead of winter. the car froze one night and we had to have it towed to a garage to warm up, but nothing was broken, just cold
well it is waiting to be cleared out and then picked up by the Kidney Foundation (they were very helpful to me with my husband)
it was in a small town, the guys in the shop gathered around it and gawked, they'd never seen a 9000 turbo before
we donated a couple to the kidney foundation, too
jmc that is so awesome:)
People gawk at Saabs?
I loved that car. I was once driving late at night twice a week through this small town in VA. Every time I drove through the cop would follow me.
they weren't very common in that neck of the woods. yes, yes they did.
Next thing you know, they will be gawking at Volvos
nowt wrong with vvolvo
volvos even
i got stopped by the ontario police that trip, too - for what, i still don't know. no ticket.
one night he flipped on his lights and stopped me. He was clearly surprised to see an older woman driving a hot red saab.
I love volvo's
he said I had a burned out tail light (which I did) and I said I could n't get parts in rural VA and would get it when I got back to DC
vovlos are nice too. had one of those too.
which one jmc?
We're a Toyota family
that's why we sold the last two, jm - once saab folded, parts were hard to get. sounds like flannery o'conner, 'a good saab part is hard to find'
oh gosh a 1970 something sedan. . . I would have to look
he was probably going to admonish you about driving an unsafe vehicle JM :D
Volvos are like the Abba of the car world
jmc that is awesome !
I knew someone in the town and they said he couldn't stand not knowing who was driving through "his" town
n
ruru is that good or bad?
lol. My father once owned twin Saabs. It was a brief love afair.
mine isn't, its awesome
now I have a Tesla and I have to say it is the best car I have every owned. . .
He liked his so much he bought on for my mother. She was not a fan.
how was his therapy going after that judi?
and an amphibious vehicle, too :)
it is. Did you read my FB story about getting caught in the flash flood on Friday?
neither good nor bad mlf .. just boring
yes, i'm glad you got through safely. like driving a james bond car :D
it was interesting. I kept expecting it to conk out since it seemed like I was driving forever through the water but at 4 mph probably just seemed that way
teslas sure are fast .. we have a million of them out here
hello...help with the hy7 pls
you mean tesla drivers can afford to risk the speeding tickets, ru, lol
phaeton, a robotic wild dog from africa
good clue
ty welki
thank you, my trollart friend :)
:D I'm still giggling about the skiing in switzerland clue
When we went to the Bay Area in December, my gdaughter made a game of counting the Teslas she saw. In a week, she sspotted over 100
i missed that - where are we skiing?
hursh i see more teslas pulled over on the freeways here than any other car
yeah, it's not like other cars can't go fast enough to be speeding badly on a road (idk how teslas are on a race track).
No clue. I just looked over chat. I don't see anything about Switzerland.
sorry to hear, jmc. they don't make red teslas!
they're coming out with a musk color soon
i am here tyring to get my downed tree removed. it's been a real experience. and costly
nor do they make convertibles.
i planted that tree. i am sicka bout it.
:(
but hey, no one was hurt. and it stopped 5 feet short of the house, so...
Can I get a clue for the Mi7/32, please?
time to go, bbl
hi/bye, owl!
hi/bye, welk. time to see the accountant about the taxes.
A sort of abbet, Judi
abbey even.
so the worst part besides dealing with the tree services is it took out my clothes pole. snapped it off at the ground.
bummer TO
Ty, Jaxx.
yw
oh wow, i just noticed no 8s or 9s but a random 10 hangin out all by itself there
and yes they do make red tesla but since i bought mine used the one I could afford was black
it
it's a celtic symbol hursh
ooh wow thanks. good think i'm a fan of celtic things!
Fireworks!
I could have given yo a more detailed clue but I thought that would be enough for you! haha
whoo hooo judi
I got the 10 all by myself :D
haha ata
I needed major help
hi folks help with either k pls
leg joint
for goodness sakes. was looking in the wrong direction ty hursh
I dont think I've ever got a 10 by myself before so I had to be smug
perfectly reasonable Ata
*puts gold star on Ata's forehead*
:D
*breaks out the champagne*
now thats a good idea
I love champagne
me too
me three
good morning everyone :)
Zoom, come back to chat. No one is mad at you.
just read the chog -- seems like I came with an appropriate icon today
ah.. put a cork in it nan :D
no need to let it breathe?
not champagne.. doesn't need to breathe :D
right - too late for that one -- thought you guys had already popped the cork on that one :)
I see Nan is bubbling over with enthusiasm
I need a clue for the other k word pls?
ke 6/33
i am already aware of the stats ty
ooh - ty molly - didn't have that one
Oh good. Awareness is a great thing.
down to 20 and heading for the list - lots to do today
*waves to ZooZ* \
it's so annoying that I don't see some words until I know that they are there
like the church and the steak
Is there a separation of church and steak? : D
it's called Sunday afteroon....
yes - even church suppers don't seem to include steak
lol pen
I never had steak at church. . . not even chicken fried
lots of casseroles
I thought it was just crackers
pancakes
i never got the cracker thing anyway
soaghetti
it goes with the salad ru
*!*~*!* - looks like rain, so breakfast and housecleaning next on the list. hagd everyone :)
whoo hoo cyber
I would go out into the yard until the rain myself
Forget If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium...if it's Tuesday it must be house cleaning day
Tuesday was ironing day at my house when I was growing up....
My girlfriend is from Louisiana. Monday was wash day with a pot of red beans and rice on for supper.
man I clean a tiny bit each day other wise I would go nuts trying to clean the whole house
Yeah, me too JMC. It is an ongoing process. Same with laundry. No way I'm doing six loads in one day.
of course sometimes I don't do that even. once or twice a year I hire someone so that I know it is actaully clean!! haha
I live by myself so one or two loads every other week or so while I am working from home.
when I went out into the real world to work it was once a week
I am sure it is nicer working in the imaginary world : D
definitely. I get to watch my bird feeder all day and the birds and squirrels that love it
it is a squirrel proof bird feeder so the squirrels efforts are very entertaining
one squirrel has taken to gnawing the steel hanger, trying to get it to break through and drop
I remember greasing the pole on a bird feeder once. The squirrels were leaping from the wood pile to try and land on the feeder.
jmc: squirrel catching is roger's new hobby.
? who is Roger?
The really entertaining ones are the ones that spin as a result of the squirrel weight
good question ru
mine just closes the doors. I set it so that a morning dove is about as large of a bird that can eat at it
Oh you have that one with the weight sensitive perch?
hello friends
Hi trif!
phantom: minnow
hi mlf. mistakes were made here....oh dear
hi trif
I pulled down a bunch of poison ivy vines yesterday - too high for the goats to reach....thought I was careful enough. I was not.
Hello jmc!
yes it hangs off a hook that comes out from the side of the house
oh trif I hope you are okay. poison ivy can cause a look of harm to people.
actually, I barely react - but enough.
im in for a couple of itchy days, but that is all. I really am lucky
my sister was not allergic at all until she decided to pull up poison ivy from a hillside barehanded and now she is incredibly sensitive!
i vexed that I got it at all. I know better, and should have taken one extra minute to oil up, but noooooo - i had to rush
is everyone else doing okay? healthy and well as can be expected?
Poor Trif!
not at all, origami, just annoyed trif
I was sick for a couple of weeks but am okay now.
glad to hear you are on the upside, jmc. exciting times in your city, for sure!
Good to hear you're better, jmc
lololol - i like your icon very much, origami! will have to remember to use that in class someday
:D
thanks origami
jmc, I often wonder how my life would be different if we had stayed in silver spring, raised the kids there....what would I be doing now? I would have one heck of a gorgeous garden, that is for sure! The pile of glacier trash I try to tend now is not forgiving
I love my house and garden Trif and other than the fact that I live in a colony I love DC. It is a great place even when things are dark like during the DC-MD-VA Sniper and the Anthrax attacks. So much to do for free. So many things to see.
agreed. winters are nice, too. Summer however? ugh
I was especaily happy to participate in a 10 mile vigil Friday night that started at Black Lives Matter Plaza and went all the way up 16th street to MD.
You had me at "black lives matter plaza"
Summers are too bad for me Trif. Lived in Texas growing up. DC is less humid than Houston. I almost never use A/C
I guess it's all what you get used to. I LOVE living near the ocean. Could never leave it again
I have lived in the DC Metro area all my life. It is hard to believe it is more humid in Texas.
haha since I am allergic to sunshine (I kid you not) the beach doesn't hold much appeal to me.
count for the lone e in the bottom row please? pugnacious little creature
It is hard to believe it is more humid anywhere
en4/4
fish me! ty
my skin dried out when I moved up here from Houston where it is either 80% humidity or raining
nbt, tra la la
wd trif
lunch break (which translates into:writing emails to clients) bbl
wow i am sorry you are allergic to sunshine
She seems to enjoy the outdoors just fine though.
I'm allergic to cluing... i sneeze a lot here during the day
elks
that's so deer april
stats for 10 letter word please?
TR/10/98
98????!!!!
you asked for the stats didn't you?
I did. I was just shocked by the 98!! I have got it but had to do a work search for it. Thanks for help
oh like the definition.
Deeha, do you know how the point value is determined? A ten letter word is 7 x the points
Try telling the good folks in Tennessee that vols isn't a word : D
Could I have the stats for the k please?
kn4/8
Thanks. I'd completely missed seeing the last letter
hard grid. missing h words. any stats welcome.
there's a couple of h's and an m that end in the same three letter ending
So far got 3 hy words
there are 5 hy words
i have 5
ty.looking
hy4 and 5 church songs
hy5 is a bone, i know i've heard it on House
how did i miss them. ty.
hy7 was clued as an african (laughing) robotic dog
female body part for the other 5
then there are he 5 and 6
ty.
got most of them. dont know the african dog.
it's not really a dog, though it kind of resembles one, and the word literally means something resembling that creature
mkg you do. It's a wild dog
i didn't think it was a dog but i thought maybe the other cluer who clued it for me knew
it's in it's own family I believe
thinking
3 to go....
i only see hy**a and dont see the A in grid. it is not a 7
something resembling that animal mk
the clue literally means something resembling that creature
clue=word
for instance, something resembling a human is....
? a painting? a resemblence? a likeness? a photo? ouch. so blocked
how about an alien...if it resembles a human...
it is human like. like not in grid
oh i think i see it
robot ending...
i got it.
ouch. can this really be a word? ok. got it. ty all
woot1
moo ty for sticking iwth it.
no worries, happy to help
you'd do the same
wow. missgin that ten. any clues or stat? is it two words?
tr 10/98 is the stats...don't have it yet
it is one word, it has a three prefix
Clues are in the archive chat
it is a celtic symbol
ah, sheesh...that's a word
one to go
pretty special word to have in a grid!
:)
i have 20 to go
27 here.....
back
106 left hahaha
:-)
Hats off to whoever found that tr 10 first!
looks like sprite
my mistake--penquis
I am obviously speechless
Actually, I think it was justafreep
you are probably right Gillie
Clues for the Ks? What am I not seeing (hope not obvious)!
there's a 4 letter word for leg joint
Oh good god. Thanks.
there is a ke6,33 I haven't found yet
I found it just a second after you asked for clues so don't feel so bad
that ends like the hy7, thanks gadget
i mean thanks jmc
why is it so hard to accurately see who just said something, lol
also found my5 with that ending
ty for that hursh. 29 to go
gotta list - I'm stuck.
done! my last 2 words were Mr. Diggler and his family.
Whoo hoo harry
guess what my first 2 words were
Hmmm, I wonder what they could be
by the way its international day of celtic art today. Perfect for the 10
I don't get the connection between Diggler and the words, but there are many things I am not supposed to get
At first I thought Boogie Nights, but I'm still not getting it
yes - boogie nights.
Molls it is his first name in the grid
Oh yeesh, I was thinking of a different word entirely
firebirds!
whoo hoo Ata
96 left :)
go go go!
haha I have to sneak it in while I am working so it makes it take longer
hello
Who are you sneaking from? Yourself?
hi TO
I do different kinds of legal work molls. some directly with clients and some as a subcontractor of sorts
hi jmc
jmc, may i ask a legal question/
email it
TO, your question reminds me of a joke. A doctor and a lawyer were attending a cocktail party. The doctor said to the lawyer, "Can I ask you advice about something? I'm always being asked by people for medical advice, and I try to give them a good medical opinion, but I wonder, am I being taken advantage of? Should I send them a bill for my services?" "Absolutely," the lawyer replied. The doctor was happy with that answer, till a few days later when he received a bill from the lawyer for his advice!
good one!
That's funny, jan.
i had a verbal agreement for work with a tree service, did not receive a contract, and long story short the interaction has been unsatisfactory. i just called to tell them i did not wish to have them work for me.
no contract was signed.
no one thinks i have any obligation to them. they showed up at 7AM with no warning today. my acroos the way neighbors had a firm appoimtment for tree removal and there is not room enough for two services to work at the same time.
hi all. i had to leave before...would love a clue for the 10. ty
I don't answer legal questions in chat. It would be completely unethical. email me.

Jan my experience is that I am more likely to get a bill from a doctor. ;)
JMC hats off to you for not giving professional advice in chat. I have seen others do it and always wonder about the ethics of that.
interesting
dinnertime
Well this is a bummer! 24 left and no clues in the recent chat. Just missed jmc. :) Guess I must apply myself...
What do you need clues for?
There are a lot of clues in the whole days chat, if you look at that.
Nothing specific. Hit a wall. Going to the list now...but thank you!
There is the usual smattering of oddball words.
Of course there is. And also, the "duh, I'm an idiot!" words that are so obvious using the list.
Care to clue the he5/6?
he + the first part of our veryork player, and plural
Hy7?
ends in robot, une
hy + the first two of the sign on the door you go in and robot ending and Harry beat me to it
I thought Harry was off watching Boogie Nights
hah. I was having an end of year distanced celebration with my AP chem kids.
Then I came home and made french toast
Thanks!!
Damn Harry, you are a many faceted y-chromo
I did exploding hydrogen balloons and an elephant's toothpaste soda bottle
and got them ice cream.
but some of the kids took off their masks and the maintenance guy came out and yelled at us
Thanks Molly! I was off for a bit. Appreciate it.
I found two other words with that ending, Harry. Hadn't seen it. Thanks!
Horrors! The kids took off their masks to eat their ice cream? This mask thing has gone WAY too far.
I got some take-out today at lunch since I had to go to the offic. All of the restaurant staff were wearing masks, but most of the people lined up to buy food were not. Including 2 cops.
Masks are not optional where I live. No mask, no admittance. I'm thinking of switching to bandannas with a loose bottom so I can actually breathe.
They aren't required everywhere here. Social distancing is, and in some places, masks. But then again, it's as hot as the sun here too. Heat index of 100+
If the problem is with glasses fogging, here's a trick I learned years ago in Hong Kong--take a piece of twist-tie and thread it through the part of the mask above your nose, It stiffens the area so that you can pinch it to conform with the bridge of your nose. I gave up wearing glasses in HK until I learned this trick!
Good tip, jan, since I am blind as a bat without my glasses.
Ironically, I'm supposed to be in Hong Kong right now, for a three month stint, that got cancelled due to COVID-19. I have to say that I don't miss the tropical heat and humidity there, though it would be a lot safer to be there these days.
What do you do in Hong Kong, jan?
In Hong Kong? Why is that safer?
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Hong Kong doesn't seem very safe to me. On many levels.
Virus-wise, Hong Kong has had almost complete success in squelching it. When they got their first cases over the border with China, they immediately began testing, isolating confirmed cases, and recommending social distancing and masks. And in Hong Kong, everyone wears masks because they got used to it in the SARS epidemic some years back. My HK friends can't understand why Americans don't wnat to wear masks--they think we must be crazy. They cut the cases down to zero, and later in February had another spate of cases when HK residents returned from abroad with the virus. But again, that outbreak got squelched fast. All told, they have had a total of 4 deaths.
Now, if you're talking about the political situation there, that's an entirely different thing! HK is reasonably safe for me, but my colleagues there are all scared about the loss of freedom of speech and communication. Rightly so. The Beijing-backed givernment there is pushing the line that the demonstrators there are terrorists and must be punished. And a lot of people are concerned that universities will be targeted for police repression there. Again, they are almost certainly right. It is heart-breaking to me, since I have been back and forth to Asia for twenty years now, and think of places like Hong Kong as almost a second home.
Origami, I'm a university professor based in Seattle, but my research brings me abroad frequently, often to Hong Kong, China, Korea, Singapore, etc. as well as to Europe and Brazil.
My SIL and family lived in HK for 3 years several years ago. I think they loved it there.
good to know they can get used to the masks in heat & humidity there. gives me hope for here. I went to WM this morning and it was HOT when I was loading the car.

interesting article on mask wearing, origins, and cultural differences
I never have gotten used to the heat and humidity there. Hong Kong basically has two seasons--day and night!

Someone mentioned the "church word" earlier and I didn't get it. I think it's a British thing.
Off to make orange loaf for after-dinner tonight...and will finish my last nine words then.
orange loaf? do tell.
I just looked it up. It is an orange bread. Not my thing, but I hope Jan enjoys it.
I was assuming an orange loaf was an orange bread. ;) sounds delicious to me.
Oh sorry. You said "do tell" so I thought you were wondering what it was.
good evening
Hi all, hi phan

Sorry, I just assumed you wanted clues.
Good luck with the grid. I'll just slink out quietly before I give any more away.
I am happy with clues!
Could I please have a clue for the mi7?
Like a Protestant church guy, without the eye in the middle
Thank you, Molly.
No problem
I was hoping she'd tell the recipe!

Good work, Une.

Back to finish. The orange loaf is a basic flour-cornmeal quick bread flavored with the zest of an orange. It was one of the first pandemic-recipes the New York Times published in early March--and one of the best, I think. The idea was to provide recipes you could make with stuff you probably already had in your fridge and pantry. Later on, they made them subscription only, which spoiled it for me, since I already pay for the basic NYT subscription, and I didn't feel like paying more for the recipe subscription. Though, if you Google the paywalled recipes, you can often find a blogger who has copied the paywalled recipe to their blog...
I made two of the orange loaves--one for us for after-dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow, and one for our neighbor across the street whose husband got sick with COVID--he's a doctor from Nigeria working for a year at Seattle's largest hospital, so it wasn't too surprising that he got ill. He's supposed to get out of the hospital sometime this week, so I've been sending little food parcels over to his wife in the meantime.
And...finsihed with the grid! First grid I've finished in a few days!
wrg jan !!!!!!!!!
YAY JAN!!!!!! (and dave niehaus) ;-)
Ah, he's sorely missed...
