i went for blood work yesterday..stood in line outside the lab for almost an hour...just to get screened..but worth it when i saw how well they cleaned each cubicle after every patient

On a happy note, my local library system is open for drive-by pick-up of books ordered online.
in my area, people are being very cooperative about wearing masks in public places, so i do feel pretty safe in that sense. if by "safe" you mean able to NOT wear masks, then, no.

Sometimes when I run errands I wear a mask between places. If the outside of the mask has any nasties on it I might transfer them to the inside when taking it on and off.
So what is it that is going to make people feel "safe" again? Or are they just content to live masked and quarantined forever?

Right, but if I touch the outside of my mask and transfer germs to the inside, I can become infected.
As for lone drivers, besides Lyft or uber, for some people it's simpler to put the mask on as you leave home so you don't have to think about it. Also... taking them on and off a bunch means possible exposure moments, so in theory you leave them on til you get home/work and can stay de-masked

Okay, well all I can say is that it is helpful to read about exactly why wearing masks is recommended. It has nothing to do with protecting you. It is protecting others from you in case you are contagious.

You're absolutely right, Molly. I'm just saying that we can't know whether the outside of our mask has picked up anything, like maybe if I touched a door handle and then took my mask off. It's easy to touch the inside of the mask and then it's contaminated too. I came to understand that after watching a couple of videos where they used infrared (I think) that makes the germs visible. Changed my thinking!

This is how I feel about COVID germs. We're surrounded by germs of all types, some more threatening to our lives than others. I don't think I'm being unreasonable. I'm tempted to turn that around and say if that's how *you* feel about germs, don't ever bother washing your hands or deep-cleaning your kitchen. Until more is known about how (and whether) we develop immunity to this particular germ, I believe masks and distancing give us a way to be reasonably safe.
Look at all the research on kids who were flooded with antibiotics when they were young. They are immune to them now because they never built up their own defense system.

I agree jmc! I just think we need to handle this particular virus with great caution, as to far there seems to be little firm data about developing immunity to it.
my husband was immune deficient and the first thing the doctor said about cleaning things is don't use the antibiotic for everything.
And I do. I haven't kissed my boy in months. We are supper careful when we are together and I rarely go out of my house and when I do I wear a mask and depending where gloves.
When I was little penicillin was given for every little thing and now I couldn't have it if it was the only thing that would save me.
There are tons of people who are immune deficient and have been for years. They have not been going around wearing masks all that time.
the thing that disturbs me most is the number of ads from before the pandemic that fit in perfectly with the sanitize everything within an inch of its life attitude.
All I'm saying is that the way we respond to and keep safe from Covid is different from everything else, just because it's new and unknown. I didn't wear masks and keep distant before, and when we get to the other side I'll happily go back to unmasked hugs!

Part of the problem with COVID and any other contagious disease is that people refuse to stay home when they are sick.I blame that on employers who don't offer enough sick leave and lack of common sense.

We have a dirt pit behind our house (red clay) and he came home from 'playing' (he was prolly 14 at that time) and his clothes were ruined from him (along with his friends) doing standing or belly slides in the rain, lol. Good times! (but that never, ever comes out of clothes) I just shook my head and rolled my eyes.
My son was always eating things as a toddler: snails, ants, seaweed. He even ate a raw chicken liver I had put on a saucer for the cat.

At least mind didn't come in with snakes or toads in his pockets. A friend's boy came in one day and asked her if he could take his can of worms to school (or church?) for show and tell. When she looked in it she found about a dozen baby water moccasins. I don't even know how many times she found frogs in the washing machine because he'd put them in his pockets. (Dunno why she didn't check pockets 1st)

Molly, I concur with your assessment. Too many employers no longer provide sick leave and one has to be with them for a year before getting vacation time. I'm fortunate in that my job, while considered essential, can be done from home. This is the 1st company since 1995 that I've worked for that has actual sick leave accrual. Our customer sent us all home (to work from) mid March. At the beginning of May they had an all hands meeting for supervisors who relayed we'd be going back in 3 phases, mgr/supervisors, those (considered) not at risk, then those at risk or with dependents at risk (caregivers). We are supposed to wear masks in public areas or if in a cubicle with someone who is closer than 6'. If closer, it's possible that we'll change up port/stbd working days (trade out days, one from home, next from office or one week at office, one week at home)… no word as of yet, lol.
I will be working from home until January.
I hate to bust into all the Covid talk to beg for a clue - but I only need one more! ma5/22 anyone?

most of them get out of providing by having temporary employees and part timers. DC passed a law local known as the McDonalds law that requires paid sick leave for temporary and part time workers 60 days after hire with the days being credited from the first work day. (so you get your sick leave based on hos much you worked those 60 days) It doesn't cover everyone but it was surprising how many people it covered.
hello friends. getting caught up on the chog...I was exposed to covid last week, and my test was negative, but I have to stay in isolation until wednesday, just to be SURE sure. I have been careful with mask wearing and have rarely ventured out - the first time I did - exposed!

we're confined at home since March 16, only I go to the grocery once a week mask, gloves, long sleeve, the works and I'm terrified to bring the "bug" home with me. careful with the anxiety. meditation, xanax are not working anymore, I need a valium to be able go outside now

Molly, I suspect the fear is because there is so much that seems out of our control in this pandemic. Personally, I'm not afraid--I'm in a high risk category due to age, and my husband is in a super-high-risk category due to being in his mid-70's with an auto-immune condition. So we are taking extreme precautions, and that keeps us safe, but being cooped up away from family and friends is difficult, and with my job in question, there are financial stresses. So, all of these stresses that we all have come out in our reactions--some in denial, some being terrorized, etc. And me, I'm spending time in Babble that I hadn't done in years...so I guess that's my accommodation!
