i am curious as to how others approach solving. For example - I am working on the D right now. I will look in each direction for words, first four letters, then five, trying different letter combinations. You?
i know one of my sisters hits nbt, and then works through the grid alphabetically....
Initially I just look at the grid and put in any words that I see. Then I will look at individial letters to see if I can see anything further. I'm not as organized as you Trif
I have tried alphabetically before with each letter in grid but I gave up

My hubs and kids would try to get away every year for a week to get a break from caregiving. Unfortunately, every time we went away, mum ran into some health issue. Thank goodness my sisters were there to care for her, but we ended up dreading going away.

My Mum is 93 and has nurses come every morning and afternoon. I had to explain to her that her niece had passed away. She got very confused and started talking about the nieces' sister - after awhile I managed to get thru to her which niece I was talking about. Sometimes one has to be very, very patient when dealing with older folk. Just wish I lived closer

Thanks for the advice about changing passwords. I just did mine here. Ironically, I had changed most of my passwords earlier this year when my identity got stolen, as a result of my employer allowing all of the employee social security numbers and dates of birth to be on an unencrypted laptop, which an HR employee promptly lost on a bus...

I know the pain. Someone applied for unemployment benefits in my name a couple of weeks ago. I had frozen my credit info after the Experian hack, so I didn't have to do that again. But even filing a police report took me three weeks since so many people have been affected. Good luck with the law suit--check agencies suck, big time!

Add ransomware to that list of horrible online stuff. I had my computer cryptolocked a couple of years ago and lost all my data--including the automated backup. What bothered me the most was losing all my photos--most especially photos of my granddaughter. Luckily I had sent some of my favorites to other people by email attachment, so I could get those back. But, due to the threat of ransomeare, I now use two external harddrive backups, and disconnect them from the computer alternately.

Reading all the horror stories - the best insurance agains computer ransoming is to back up everything on an auxiliary hard drive (there are some good ones out there that cost less than $100 and are about 3" square in size) -- you just unplug it (USB)whenever you are not using it to back up files, which I do on a weekly basis, or a day of heavy use. I currently have 50 yrs of photographs (all UHD or HD size files) on mine and so far still have about 700 kb out of 1T free

They do. I have neighbors who have horses and I always let them know well in advance of when I'm shooting them off. They usually load them into their trailer and take them up to the horse arena until we're done (NLT 2200/10PM). I have neighbors who call and tell us to move the launch area to the left or right because there is a tree blocking their view, lol. But, yes, I am very cognizant of our neighbor's livestock/sensibilities (PTSD) and always give a heads up.

yep, Hursh. We have ex-military friends who have PTSD. Sometimes they feel up to it, sometimes not. I still offer them the option to come out... I've also had a friend's grandchild who had to watch from inside the cab of their truck because she got scared with the noise... I do my best to make sure all are comfortable and feel secure... even if they have to sit on the couch and look out the living room/den windows...
i wish they'd just switch to ONLY making silent ones, now that that's a thing, and then there would be no problems at all!

We're considered county so while we can only buy fireworks 30 days out of the year (15 up to Jul 4th and 15 up to New Years) there is no ordinance dictating when we can light them off... we had to do one in August one year because we were under a burn ban through the month of July... think that's when the Po-po visited...

Oh, loose balloons and WalMart bags piss me off... At least our trash is in one area and we take care of it. After Katrina the freaking blue WalMart bags were EVERYWHERE, stuck in trees, ditches, almost anywhere one could imagine. Balloons? I've never thought those were good, lol. I can totally see the anger against fireworks, I just don't feel it. And, like I said, I do my best to make sure everyone who has livestock (only horses now, all cows are gone) is aware of events. We can only buy for 15 days every 6 months... Jun 15 > Jul 6 then Dec 15 > Jan 1... there is no ordinance prohibiting when they are fired off. Only a burn ban (drought situation) can stop you (if you're smart)… also, if, for whatever reason, you catch your field on fire and the FD has to come out, you can be fined... last I heard $500 here... We try to make sure we have enough people (have had in excess of 75 folks some times, lol) to help us watch the burn factor. Knock on wood, have had no runaway fires to date, either from the bon fire or from the fireworks...

DH was swabbed last week. negative thank heavens. i am very worried with this new outbreak here in my state. it is thought that the younger gen, gen. millenials, are now becoming complacent with hand hygiene and social distancing. a third of all our new cases are from that generation.

I wonder - but I've come to the conclusion that the more conservative one's political views, the less likely they are to wear a mask. This comes from the arguments on the local town bulletin board on FB. The liberals are arguing for wearing masks, and the conservatives are balking.

if you're into that sort of thing, of course. there is a reasonably good synopsis on-line too.
What's the penalty is one doesn't vote, Rose? I can't imagine not voting, but one thing I hate about the system in Calif is the propositions - people read the synopsis and vote based on that instead of the actual wording of the new law. We've had some ugly things pass that people complained about later - I've seen many say "I wish I had read the whole thing." I hope they've learned, but the presentation of the proposition is definitely not neutral.
a fine, not much if you want to be a conscientious objector i guess. but i'm too frugal to waste money on fines.if you don't pay the fine costs start to escalate.
You can require someone to vote, but you can't force them to make an informed choice.

if you have a valid reason like i was knocked over by a car on my way to vote, and was in the ER there is no fine.
