next week our five mile travel limit is being lifted...my partner and I are gonna try to find a self contained cottage somewhere

7:27 am

they split along political lines unfortunately

7:27 am

7:27 am

7:27 am

7:27 am

2nd column N is na5/12

7:27 am

did she wear a mask?

7:27 am

hi mael

7:27 am

that sounds great rolin

7:28 am

hic

7:28 am

You can still visit/have tea if you keep a safe distance

7:28 am

ty mael

7:28 am

I'm glad I live in MA, everyone wears masks

7:28 am

got it ty mael

7:28 am

yes she did mlf.

7:28 am

jmc that's good:)

7:28 am

Maine too I hear mael

7:29 am

everyone here Is supposed to not sure if they have or not

7:29 am

What is a "self-contained cottage"?

7:29 am

gotta go drive the kids - bbl!

7:30 am

btw earlier convo, my husband will be getting us something to eat at a restaurant here that doesn't open until 11

7:30 am

bye hh

7:30 am

yeah, the north east in general is doing pretty good with social distancing and masking, thankfully

7:30 am

I'm taking my kiddos to the playground (masked!), have a great day everyone

7:30 am

bye mael enjoy

7:31 am

stats for the 8 pls?

7:31 am

Why does everyone feel like they have to stipulate that they are masked?

7:31 am

because they know some of us would worry about them

7:33 am

agreed with jmc

7:33 am

Yeah but we know mael. We know she is a good mother. I have no doubt that she is taking the appropriate precautions for herself and her family. I guess I just don't get it. It seems like overkill.

7:34 am

It's like posting...be back in a bit. Going to the bathroom. Will wash my hands after. : D

7:34 am

not really, people are concerned. But in that situation I would be worried about whether or not that stuff is being wiped down if they use jungle gym, slide etc

7:35 am

well people should wash their hands after they go to the bathroom anyway. People were taught that years ago

7:37 am

I'm starting to think that we will never get back to life the way it was before all this COVID stuff. Playgrounds, gyms and grocery carts have been germ factories for years.

7:38 am

Does anyone else do this? I got the he4/5 and thought what if I added a t would that be the past tense? Duh!

7:38 am

that is what I keep thinking too. I mean, shouldn't this cleaning things like grocery cart, equipment, shelves etc be cleaned on a regular basis anyway?

7:39 am

Yes, but this particular germ hasn't been around all that long, and we're still learning about it. Until there's widespread immunity it merits special care.

7:39 am

Good Morning, Babbleland.

7:39 am

jzw I just got a 4/5 but I cant put a t at he end of it

7:40 am

Different he4

7:40 am

Hello there Bea

7:40 am

oh I got it

7:40 am

good morning bzz

7:41 am

Actually for most germs the over cleaning just makes for stronger germs that we can't kill before they kill us. The problem we face here is that the germs are already killing us.

7:42 am

true jmc. I never thought that cleaning everything on a daily basis was that good of an idea generally speaking

7:43 am

I'm very curious to read the studies of this thing, somewhere down the line. Particularly about the people who were exposed, yet did not get the thing.

7:43 am

And yes, over cleaning and sanitizing really hinders more than it helps.

7:43 am

their are light versions of it molly

7:43 am

the main thing right now is to wash your hands whenever you contact something not yours. such as the ATM

7:44 am

They are watching another virus very carefully.

7:44 am

Light versions??

7:44 am

yes you don't get as sick

7:44 am

bzz really?

7:45 am

that was why they thought 30 somethings didn't get it. Turned out they did, but it wasn't as bad so they thought it was a cold or allergies.

7:45 am

until they started dropping dead from strokes.

7:46 am

I wasn't talking about people who get the virus and don't have severe symptoms. I'm talking about people who were exposed to it and don't get it.

7:46 am

I think where I live the last I heard the average age for getting it is 49

7:46 am

People who are exposed, who then get tested and are negative.

7:47 am

molly interesting isn't it?

7:47 am

I'm gonna go open up the bar now.

7:47 am

Please do.

7:47 am

just orange juice for me Molls got a bit of a headache

7:48 am

yeah I could use one too but for a different reason righ molly?:) lol

7:48 am

Squeezes some fresh oranges for JMC

7:48 am

ooooo fresh how delightful

7:49 am

I love my juicer. Nothing like the smell of fresh squeezed citrus.

7:50 am

My boss, who has a beautiful house on a lake north of here (Deep Creek, JMC) is here at work today. He needs to have his head examined. He has such a Puritan work ethic.

7:51 am

I used to make fresh squeezed orange juice until my electric juicer died and life got too complecated

7:51 am

His whole family is already up there. Except his Puritan work ethic daughter, who will be here too.

7:51 am

he can't work from home? that's nuts (if you will excuse teh expression)

7:52 am

He has not worked from home during this whole thing. Neither has the daughter. Part of the Puritan thing, I guess.

7:52 am

that is not the word I would use Molls

7:53 am

I refrain from using the word I usually do when posting here. : D

7:53 am

when this was just reving up I told my bosses I would not contribute to the pandemic and refused to go downtown.

7:53 am

so they gave me sick leave until they set up remote work.

7:54 am

One good thing that has come out of this is that people have learned exactly how effective working from home can be.

7:55 am

there were three people--one of whom is pretty germ-phobic who went in every day on the Metro and they were only allowed to work 7.5 hours so I got more money for not coming in

7:55 am

yes I have been doing it some for many years with clients spread across the globe

7:57 am

remote work definitely helps with the pollution.

7:59 am

I am loving the decrease in traffic on the roads. My stress level is down 50%.

8:00 am

my only stress driving the little bit I do is the number of people who don't know to walk facing oncoming traffic

8:01 am

Haven't been able to find any flow to this grid today...

8:02 am

hang in there bzzn

8:03 am

bzz me either

8:03 am

Hubby just left to pick up the cake:)

8:54 am

Are you ehjoying vacation, Carla?

yep, nice to get away. heading back tomorrow though.

8:55 am

Rs removed

8:56 am

loxs

8:56 am

Wait, you are on vacation and you are going home for the 4th of July?

yes. we do 7/4 week every year with one of mr. homie's sisters. this year with it on a Sat. it is a little trickier. this campground opens for res. on 1/1 and there are only 2 creekside spots that work for us. by the time my SIL got through, someone already had this one booked for 7/4 so we could only get Fri-Fri.

it's already super hard to get campsites at most campgrounds. this pandemic booming the RV industry isn't going to help unless people start building more campgrounds.

9:02 am

I would imagine people are looking into safer ways to vacation.

9:02 am

hubby got the cake. White frosting with a strawberry on top.

sounds delish. I missed the cake talk, is it your birthday?

9:03 am

Someone mentioned a self-contained cottage. I don't know what that is.

9:03 am

My friends are taking their rv out for a couple weeks. Going through OK and AR.

9:03 am

yes hokie it is

I would imagine cottages are self-contained, I don't know what that means either.

9:04 am

what is this self contained cottage about?

9:04 am

I guess that is AK.

happy birthday, mlfan!

9:04 am

ty hokie!

oklahoma and alaska?

9:04 am

Hubby is also going to get us something to eat

9:04 am

A self contained cottage would be like a bungalow here, probably. Has a kitchen or kitchenette.

9:04 am

Arkansas

I just thought all cottages had kitchens

I think arkansas is AR

9:05 am

AR would be correct.

AK is alaska

9:05 am

bzz was that supposed to be a clue for a word or just convo

9:06 am

No clue.

9:06 am

hokie cottages are supposed to be homes so I would assume they do have kitchens?

9:09 am

Rolin was taking about the self contained cottage. She is in Wales.

9:09 am

hmm

9:10 am

Arrgh. Last word. Di7/32. Any clues?

9:10 am

they are for the holidays and you can rent them

haven't gotten to the d yet but I'll look

9:11 am

9:12 am

9:13 am

Hey trif :-)

10:11 am

what does your name mean? I have always meant to ask

10:11 am

Have a great day, MLF

10:11 am

one from Aix in Provence I'd guess

10:12 am

ah! nice

10:12 am

just guessing though

10:14 am

like me and this grid - just guessing. mean little thing

10:15 am

i can't even find all the fours in this thing

10:15 am

right?

10:16 am

here comes a goat to steal my tea.....

hi, babbelinis! I'm about to garden but just wanted to say hello to some familiar names. Hope you are all well. My pandemic existence is "bird in a gilded cage." I have what I need. My Steinway plus solo bike rides keep me sane. Besos to all.

10:17 am

besos to you too melon!

eh, babbelini. The "i" makes it plural.

10:17 am

hi melon

grazie, Trif!

10:17 am

like a jeff besos ?

hey, ruru XXXOOO

10:17 am

I like the "bird in a gilded cage" analogy - will try to adjust my own thinking accordingly

Oh, ruru, you just ruined my salutation!

10:18 am

sorry

10:18 am

good morning all -- happy birthday mlf

10:18 am

thought maybe he'd shower us with money and free amazon shipping

10:18 am

good morning nan!

Trif, for me this has been more sabbatical than confinement. Now, I don't have kids underfoot, I am sheltering solo, and I have income. I am well aware others are not so fortunate. My pandemic project is tha Alban Berg opus 1 sonata.

10:18 am

nudge for the bottom row n please?

10:19 am

damned if I know, cad, have been looking for ages here

the bottom. or at least, the low point.

Bezos? TO him, workers are line items to be minimized, and customers are line items to be courted.

10:19 am

the highest point cad

Thank you 72 Temple Owl!

10:19 am

that is a lovely way to think of it, melon. I am glad to have encountered you today

10:20 am

i mean the lowest point

10:20 am

oh bless you. nbt

likewise, Trif.

10:20 am

Ack, thanks!

I need help with the Y for NBT

10:20 am

everywhere my eyes fall i see something that needs fixing, or tending, or cleaning. It's overwhelming

10:20 am

to want and wish for ye4

10:21 am

melon I have a yo4 - think of long ago

10:21 am

i need coffee.. it's a goat term

10:21 am

the r'

10:21 am

Ru is right :-)

ruru's ye4 is new to me.

10:21 am

the r's are at the top

ah, tx Trif

10:22 am

my goats won't be doing any of that - "adjusted"

10:22 am

I'm right UNE?

NBT, off to garden. Nice conversations. My day is a little smilier. Ciao for now! [poof]

10:22 am

that's what I always thought it meant

10:22 am

ciao bella

10:23 am

my goats are so pissed at me. The vet told me to back off their feed for the summer, since they are foraging so much. they look at me like I satan herself

10:25 am

its a lovely name, Une

10:28 am

they have a salad named after une in Aix

10:47 am

uuuuuuggggggghhhhhh

10:52 am

That jump in and say UGH thing is getting very popular

10:53 am

oh really? i didn't realize

10:53 am

i am just sick of stupidity.

10:54 am

i read an article about a guy who posted that he regretted going to a party bc he got COVID. the next day he died. the person who gave him the disease KNEW he had it but thought he wasn't contagious because he was asymptomatic, so he went to the party anyway.

10:55 am

If we get a really deadly virus going around, that kind of stupidity is going to wipe out half the population

10:56 am

what do you mean if -- we do have a really deadly virus going around now

10:58 am

Im not liking this grid today.

10:59 am

Nan, I'm talking about something that is deadly enough that anyone who gets it dies. Not everyone dies from COVID.

10:59 am

Even some of teh 4 letter words are grrrrrrrr

11:00 am

you guys, I have got to show you a photo I just took....please hold

11:00 am

ye 4, 6 for example !!

11:01 am

oh wow yi 4 6 ... cruuuumbs #

11:02 am

true, Molly -- maybe when you are my age you will be more concerned about it

11:03 am

This discussion reminds me of the Edgar Allan Poe story the Masque of the Red Death.

11:03 am

yeah i've had that story in mind since this plague first started

11:03 am

thanks for the ye4/6

11:03 am

please let me know if you can see my new profile pic, especially if it is huge

11:04 am

The movie had everyone dancing at a party and then dying horribly.

11:04 am

Trif, is it the gentleman?

11:04 am

also the Vashta Nerada from Doctor Who... not every shadow, but any shadow... not everyone will die, but anyone could...

11:04 am

haha Trif your Goat plays babble thats awesonme

11:04 am

But just because people aren't dying horribly withing hours or minutes of infection doesn't mean that COVID 19 isn't really dangerous.

11:05 am

is that a goat or a cow trif?

11:05 am

its my two goats, trying to convince me they are better than monkeys

11:06 am

Sorry, don't mean to preach but I live in Houston where the ICU beds have filled up and they are having to convert non-ICU floors for COVID patients.

11:06 am

i want to have goats someday

11:06 am

preach away, beth! Having spent 11 days in isolation I would MUCH rather people took it seriously

11:07 am

you really, really really do hurshy. they are delightful

11:07 am

no -- you don't need to apologize, beth -- there are obviously too many people out there who do not realize how dangerous covid is. They would rather believe Trump's fantasies than what the doctors and scientists are trying to tell them.

11:08 am

did you hear rand paul the other day? "should we believe all these experts?" YES you dumb sh*t

11:08 am

morning all

11:08 am

On that, I disagree

11:08 am

hello mooling! welcome

11:08 am

hey trif

11:09 am

and when his neighbor attacked him he lost a lung so he's at extra risk, too, trif

11:09 am

what do you disagree with, BJ? that goats are delightful? :)

11:09 am

Mmmmm. Carne Asada.....

11:10 am

rand paul swam in the congressional pool AFTER being exposed to COVID. he sucks

11:11 am

Trump is backed by some doctors. Do you remember when they brought those Ebola patients to South Texas for treatment, saying oh yea we are equipped. The doctors though a facemask was enough protection against a hemorrhagic fever. Just because they have a degree doesn't mean they have a clue.

11:12 am

The Dallas hospital that took in the Ebola patient was fairly well equiped but the staff hadn't been trained properly on using PPE for ebola.

11:12 am

BJ - look at the evidence. Trump is an idiot

11:13 am

Hey, that's a deadly insult to the royal order of ifiots....

11:13 am

er, idiots even.

11:14 am

trump refuses to wear a mask. what more proof do we need?

11:14 am

Never disagreed with that. Just disagree that one should accept 'experts' word on anything. Like that damned coroner we had here in Ontario that liked to diagnose 'shaken baby syndrome'. Credentials were crap.

11:15 am

Hey, Darwin needs to get cracking....

11:15 am

Unfortunately, because everyone around him is wearing a mask, he isn;'t likely to catch it.

11:15 am

True, BJ, but in this case there are several voices in the scientific community all saying the same thing.

11:16 am

True Nan. Consensus means a lot in science.

11:16 am

yeah - it's true that not everyone with credentials is trustworthy, but when a large majority of them agree, then you listen

11:17 am

Peer review means a lot. Too bad several of the journals have been bought up and no longer do peer review. They are devoted to publishing whatever crackpot moneymaking theories they can find.

11:18 am

Which journals don't do peer review anymore?

11:19 am

Unfortunately, i cannot remember the names. I've never had access to them myself, but i did recognize the names as being formerly noteworthy.

11:19 am

I wish I had bookmarked the article. Not sure if it was Wired or some othersource.

11:20 am

Well I'm going to do yoga. Its the only thing that keeps me sane these days.

11:20 am

yay for yoga!

11:21 am

Just thining about that makes me hurt.....

11:21 am

di7?

11:21 am

Well, discrediting expertise and creation a sense of distrust is a political tactic that is intended to make people not think for themselves, or be open to new ideas

11:22 am

Scientific method is intended to provide a mechanism for testing and acceptance over time, as evidence builds up, similarly the rule of law is intended to be a methodology that allows for inspection and adjustment over time

11:23 am

i like this quote from Isaac Asimov: “Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

11:23 am

Neither system is perfect, but they are generally a lot better than an individual or series of individuals expressing opinions without evidence, which again is how some politics works

11:24 am

Creating room for doubt is a tactic that these folks use to manipulate the mindset of a population

11:27 am

I do like me some Asimov

11:28 am

Trif - love your goat pic. I was reading just the other day about how smart goats are.

11:28 am

anyone have di7?

11:29 am

one must remember that most of what is posted on the internet is just someone's opinion.

11:29 am

di + n 5/10

11:30 am

thanks mark!

11:30 am

that was in the board the other day right?

11:30 am

yw :)

11:34 am

i think so, moo, and i missed it then too

11:34 am

yeah, not a word that easily comes to mind

11:35 am

le 5/14 please?

11:35 am

this board seems pretty nice so far...39 to go

11:35 am

I think it's some sort of hawaiian plant nan

11:36 am

yeah, looked it up, it is

11:36 am

nm - monkeyed it

11:36 am

along with ohia

11:36 am

ty mool - sounds like it

11:39 am

ohia and the el 4 in this grid are finally starting to stick with me, but it has taken almost 15 years!

11:39 am

yeah, there's a bunch

11:39 am

the naoi, naos ones like yesterday

11:39 am

I often have difficulty seeing also and the other el4 in this grid

11:40 am

oh and jiao from yesterday too

11:41 am

angst is one i have had a lot of trouble with, even though it's a known word

11:41 am

le 5/14, pls

11:41 am

11:48 am

ty mool

11:48 am

11:51 am

well it's the first part of that element

11:51 am

sorry mool i am los

11:51 am

los

11:51 am

lost

11:52 am

ni5,10 think boom boom

11:52 am

The total word is 7 letters. You're looking for 5

11:53 am

11:53 am

jax i didn't know which word mool was talking about my mistake i got it now

11:53 am

11:54 am

I thought that might have been the case, which is why I tried to help you a bit

11:54 am

11:55 am

11:59 am

12:00 pm

12:08 pm

anyone able to clue the di 7

12:10 pm

di + 88888glycerine

12:10 pm

thank you

12:10 pm

yw

12:11 pm

I had the one right before it and completely missed that one...what an IDIOT! Thx!

12:12 pm

that one isn't in a to z wordfinder

12:35 pm

That is why I gave up on A to Z and started using morewords

12:42 pm

morewords is too hard to use though.. it takes forever to get to the word you need

12:46 pm

You still have to find the word. It's so easy to really be clueless and wander around and around it.

12:47 pm

things line up and make more sense to me in a 2 z.. but it's often missing a lot of words that enable accepts

12:52 pm

Are you using morewords the right way? Entering di----- for example (di and five dashes) for the word you are looking for? It doesn't take forever

12:55 pm

Was that to me or ru? I would assume there's only one way to do it...enter a partial word and see what comes up. Sometimes are harder than others, due to letter placement in the grid...maybe I'm looking right instead of left, say.

12:56 pm

i do search for word by word length

12:56 pm

it's cumbersome that way

12:56 pm

Sometimes there are a lot of words that length, too.

12:56 pm

morewords is helpful but I'd much rather scan a vertical list than a horizontal one!

12:57 pm

that's funny i prefer beng horizontal :D

12:57 pm

And so it begins...............! ;)

12:57 pm

:P

12:58 pm

Well, everything's contextual, right ru??

12:58 pm

exactly PJ

12:58 pm

;0)

1:01 pm

Everything is contextual. For instance, I might make a comment about a more serious virus and people might think I meant this one wasn't serious. : D

out of morewords, a2z, and bestwordlist, morewords is my least favorite

1:04 pm

I've decided I'm George Costanza...can't go left...can't do it!

1:06 pm

Champ, you are much prettier than George. : D

1:06 pm

a 2 z is my fave

1:07 pm

:)

I think I like the results presentation of bestwordlist the best but it's a little more cumbersome to enter what you're looking for than a2z. It also has a lot of words not on Enable.

1:16 pm

It is nice that there are choices. It is cool that someone else is doing a word list now too, in case Lickety runs into trouble.

agreed
