Good night, Nan!
Well, it took this grid to make me realize that I have never known how to properly spell pharaoh.
It took your post just now for me to realise I never knew how to properly spell pharaoh.
We have learned something new. Yay! : D

Dear Portland Rioters, your cause means less and less to me when you resort to rioting and property damage to promote it.

Oh that word is a real Babble gem.
Good morning, ladies.

I have to restart my POS...Back in a few
well, I found 3 plurals I missed by looking through the list.
found the up thx to a chat clue. of course it is an alt sp of a word no one's ever seen before (unless you're a sailor)
are all the s's sp or sh?
I found a jar of Cinnamon Bun spread at Trader Joes. Oh my goodness!
sounds good
It's like a cinnamon roll in a jar.
I still have 5 S's. Can't imagine they are anything but sh or sp.
I have made it to 3 left.

phantom spleen and shlep
Once again, I am less than impressed with Amazon's Prime Day
I forgot to look. ordered something yesterday even though I knew it was today.

ty. dont know till soil except to plow...........thinking
The up ends with fish eggs
Well, the definition isn't exact. A three letter word meaning gardening of sorts
a garden tool she is talking about "a tough row to *", but the clue I saw said it ends in fish eggs
fish eggs? dont see caviar........
The fish eggs clue pretty much gives it up
Cheers!
If you do a search on fish eggs you will see the word people are referring to. It's not caviar. And yes Bea, bottoms up.

do you want to guess my missing A?
I have never read Tolkien
nm, found it!

yep, good guess as usual
I never read Tolkien until the movies came out
Never seen the movies either.
then you should know it, bichon. Karl Urban played one in the movies.
and I actually read them for the first time when the first movie came out
We were in NZ [where it was filmed]. We saw the first movie there. The people in the audience kept murmuring that they knew the locations.

Do you have the Scotish words?

The sound of laughs?

wow, one of my missing 4's was a very easy one
Is the ET8 a word that I might find in common use?
no
I just looked it up. and you would spell it differently.
Oh. Would you mind awfully giving me a nudge, please?
to make immortal
Bea's house is like the jam and spread capital of the world. : D
I know!
thought I was going to have to look up a 5 for the finish but finally got it.
She needs to have a bring a loaf of bread party.
You're right - I would spell it differently! My OH bakes his own bread - where shall we bring it!
Having a man in the house that bakes bread is a good thing.
As for the different spellings between British and American, I can never follow. It's humour but not actour. It's rase but not prise. And the our spellings are red marked by my spell check.
you can prise something open
I have done prisen it open already, thanks,
help with the U?
Good morning, all. Hurshy: Up + consonant + fish eggs.
well there's one caviar about that... er i mean caveat
Thank God for fish eggs. How else would you clue that word.
You shad not say things like that Ru.
judi cuts through this grid like a sturgeon
Tipping the scales when it comes to clues.
Very finny Judi
whereas I've been known to flounder
Far be it from me to fish for compliments.
oh cod, more puns
Did you ever wonder who came up with the idea of eating caviar? Hey we caught a fish. Let's rip open it's ovaries and eat the insides.
I'm guessing indigenous people, Molly. Starving enough to eat anything that didn't make them sick. Not sure when or how it ever became a delicacy.
*imagines indigenous people with champagne and Blinis*
wow, thanks judi, that is a weird word for sure
One of those rare and unique words only found here in Weird Word Land
here is an article on the history of caviar as food if anyone is interested: https://tinyurl.com/y43a3kgg
the showiest bird's mate!
If you have to go to the PB for posting grid words in the chat, we should have a place to send clue blurters too. : D
that's her nome de Plume
The Blurt Basement?
i think the majority of people like random clues now and then
Ru, don't be ravian about birds now
yes, the BB is my second home
Yes, Aloy you would spend a lot of time there.
I love random clues! Blurt away. ;p
hurshy, no one got my NTPN earlier and I was waiting for you to get here...the men who ride horses
NTPN?
Rohan
NTPN = Name That Proper Noun
Shouldn't that be Tolkien men who ride horses?
yeah, if i hadn't already noticed that word i think i would need a Tolkein component in the question
And Ru, you know Carla AWP (abbreviates whenever possible)
blurting my last word.. it wasn't homo. Ciao folks, see you next time. (-:
et8 clue?
to make last forever
ah, thanks
Clue for en8, please?
people who come in
te 6/24, pls
door people
ty, hurshy and ru
Horse men...door people...
door people tend to hobknob
Horse men think the are the centaur of the universe
door women have knockers
and their fates are always hinging on something
I have et8, en8 and wh8. Stats for the other 8, please?
re
ty, Molly
Horse men make good neigh-bors
they are often saddled with great responsibilities however
But they remain positive, always singin' in the rein
sorry for the late dings for hurshy - was sweeping the main floor. dog hair tumbleweeds everywhere.
ding ding ding!
te 6/24, pls

maybe a heterophone
homophone means sounds like - phone, sound
nope I think I meant homophone

moo!
hey hoke, still at the beach?
moo, I made it to 11 left before listing so this should be no problem for you
nope, back home
ah, well welcome home
thanks.
first 100 down
maybe someday I'll get to live at the beach, but back here for now.
Well make sure you rent :)
only beach you want to live on is one you own and only if you don't mind vacuuming up the sand off your floors 2 or 3 times per day
well, as a golden retriever owner, I'm no stranger to a vacuum
can you own the beach where you are? Around here you can only own to within 15 feet of the high water mark, so you constantly have tourists parking on the beach in front of your house.
no in NC. FL kinda has that law, but Atlantic side it really isn't an issue. It is very noticeable on the Gulf side.
I've never noticed private beaches in SC or GA either
ho 7 please?
I had to look it up. new to me. a bird of the amazon.
h + thing horses eat + shortened wine
it has claws on it's wings
and it's stomach is a little different from other birds
thanks hokie - great clue
It's kind of a proto-bird in some respects
Pronounced kind of like the IBM jeopardy beating computer
interesting
*!*~*!* hagd everyone and stay safe :)
Or Sherlock Holmes' sidekick if you prefer
also interesting. wouldn't have thought that and I obviously didn't pay attn to the pronunciation when I read the def
bye nan
bird trivia :)
watson?
yeah
that's how you pronounce it
also, have been playing the shortened wine for years in scrabble and never knew that's what it meant.
speaking of jeopardy, do you think Ken will be taking over from Alex?
I noticed last week , that Alex seems to be losing his voice - so sad
I had heard he might. no idea where I heard that.
Jeopardy is the one thing I really miss about not having cable/regular TV.
you don't have an antenna with a local station that plays it?
did you go to a disc, ori?
No, I don't have an antenna. I just stream Netflix (which sometimes does have a few episodes), PBS, Amazon.
it's not on prime?
we watch a lot of news and pbs -- would really miss not having cable
we got rid of cable tv several years ago. I do hulu live and get the local networks on that. we have an antenna but it stopped working for some reason.
that came out wrong -- I would miss having cable
the only thing I miss is The Weather Channel during hurricane season
Canadian netflix and prime do not have the same content as in the US
No, Jeopardy is not on prime :-(
Do you get any of the Sunday Morning news magazines?
I actually just ordered an antenna for my sewing room tv yesterday so I could get PBS and stuff.
No, Nan.
Can't go without my daily dose of Global News, CBC, CTV, BBC and CNN (though not so many noodles recently! -- too repetitive)
I would consider that a plus, ori. ;)
I listen to NRP while I am working in the morning. Enough news for me :D
I liked Face the Nation when John Dickerson was moderating --- it was fun watching his interviewees squirm :)
And we like Sunday Morning --- interesting stories and usually not political
on my way -- time to start thinking about lunch.
take care, nan
still 35 to go...work taking priority
well you need to work on your priorities! ;)
ep 5/16, pls

151 left for me haha
15 now..just to fit in with the general pattern
I aim for halfway. That makes me happy.
Go mkg and moo!
go yourself scrab :)
After work I am brain dead.
I feel braindead a lot lately :)
11 to go
120 to go
Work sucks the life out of me.
Me too Scrabs!
I work in SNF
And I do the opposite as you know.
9 to go
I do PT in the SNF. We have sooooooooo many people declining due to the isolation, no family visitors allowed by govt mandate.
It is so sad. My mother is 89 and we are relieved to have her in her own home.
My parents were both in nursing care before they passed and I would have been very upset not to be able to visit them.
Yes
These circumstances will most likely make people who need nursing care not opt for it because of the isolation. Another shitty side effect of all this.
Some people must have nursing home care which is agonizing for the person and family.
85 left. See you tomorrow.
8 left...still working on this
*Marks moolingwa's status on the board. People will want to know!
12 left, all H's and E's
