thank goodness my words from last night are here
uh-oh, red lines again
The tantrums continue...(fingers crossed)
so far so good
hi all. Thank you Dr. God!
So good to be back in Babble!!!
rehi
no help there hokie
what do you mean, I was using moo's hello again - rehi
hahaha oh okay!
Hard as it is to believe, most people don't get that
it's a favorite of molly ;)
It always makes me want a grape nehi
haha
well I guess that would discribe me molls and hokie.. . I'll remember next time.
*describe
hmm, are you looking for dis words right now?
haha no just correcting my spelling

speaking of d words, finished the big one but can only find 5 in the other
odor
trying to raise a stink mrloser?
hi ru!
hi je
I have only found the short word describing silly people
you've got a nose for puns, ru
so have I been by since my boy made it to Ireland for grad school? *proud mama*
be it fart from me to comment on that hokie
ru tends to lay stinkers
I think I saw someone was in grad school in Ireland, must have been you. congrats!
my son was wanting to study abroad this fall, but alas. he is soph in college, so hopefully he'll get a chance before graduation.
sadly everything is locked down so he can barely get off campus and no trips to Dublin
yeah, that stinks
i'd love to go to grad school in scotland :D
I hope it works out for him hokie. My boy was never able to do that in undergraduate but he is getting his masters in anthropology now. Crazy time to be in Ireland.
I'd just like to visit Ireland and Scotland, no need for school
Scotland is beautiful for sure
How did he get there? I though international travel was still not allowed.
I thought so too, Molly, but I know a young lady from here who went to London to play soccer. She had to quarantine for 2 weeks but had someone bringing her food and stuff.
my icon is the clan castle for my family in western Scotland
They allow travel for work and school. Just no tourists. And he had to stay in his dorm room for 14 days.
he flew over in a plane that held 30 passengers when it had 300 seats.
I'm sure somewhere in my family there is a castle in Scotland ;)
50 left!
if you are Scottish lineage then you belong to a clan and your clan may have one. The clan chief actually lives in Detroit and the castle is just a tourist place--with rooms for the chief to live if he comes to visit.
go hokie go!
yes, I think my uncle has sent me pics of a castle. my maiden name is irish, but my mom and her mom have scottish names and my family tree is pretty much all that.
ooh, found a d4
i don't have a speck of irish in me
my family on my daddy's side is scottish but his dad was born in Dublin.
I did the 23andme and was way less Irish that I was expecting, but more Scottish. Way more French & German than I knew of.
my family has been in the same county in VA since like the late 1600s/early 1700s
my sister did the dna thing and we were pretty much scottish and scandinavian which makes sense since the vikings spent a lot of time in scotland
yeah, I have some scandinavian and my son the history buff said the same thing about the vikings.
neat hokie. My mother's family has been in the Americas since the 1600 but not my dad's. He was first generation born here but I never knew it and I don't think he did either.
I also had a surprise with Africa, so then I did ancestry.com DNA and they concurred.
whoa.. that's interesting hokie
There is a great book called the Last Kingdom by Bernard Caldwell that is very interesting about the Viking in Scotland
a word of advice.....keep checking back with Ancestry and 23 & Me periodically.....information changes with more DNA on file.....
Northern Africa?
wow..finally got back in
good idea penquis
yeah. 23andme estimated an ancestor born between 1730 and 1820 was 100% african. my dad and I came to a brick wall when we were researching his side and his really old aunts wouldn't say about this guy but then they finally said he was illegitimate. I think his mother may have been a slave.
welcome back Suzee
mine shifted a bit over time...
if hokie starts listening to rap music we'll know she's searching her roots
ty..site was down..or was it my computer?
the site was down for a while Suzee
actually more ivory coast & ghana, jmc
Site was down.
hi zooz...
ok
Hello, Penquis...
interesting. . . hokie
hi zooz
yes, pen, mine have definitely changed over time. actually the last estimate on ancestry raised the % of african.
Hello, Jmc
my only constant has been 2 percent Basque from my mother's side....
interesting
well I was trying for nbt but it is not to be. I need to power wash my back steps in the relative warm.
Glad to see you all and stay safe.
good morning mr zooz
you too!
It's interesting that so many Americans seem to have got DNA profiles done. I don't know anybody here who has done so.
You rtoo, Jmc! â¤
Not me, Haz.
probably because everyone there knows where they're from
my percentage of French ancestry has steadily climbed....makes sense since my mother's and my father's ancestry goes back to emigres from France in the early to mid 1600s....
I also had way more english than I expected
I've never gotten my DNA done.. i'm afraid to know :D
Probably, carla.
The US is a "melting pot" so it's not surprising to me that a lot of us have pursued DNA testing....
I did see a TV piece where they sent their DNA to about four or five different places and all of them came back different. So that put me off.
Is it relatively expensive to do?
well, they always run sales around holidays
I think I paid about $50US for each.
zooz...i have found that my Ancestry and 23 & Me results have gotten closer over time.....
I like the anchestor website where you can check who was in your family tree from way back.
woohoo
my professional organization gave me a big gift certificate from Amazon when I stopped publishing the newsletter....figured I would use it for something I wouldn't normally pay for.....so I did both.....
they categorize them slightly different too. my 23andme has British & Irish, then French & German. ancestry has England & NW Europe, Scotland, Germanic Europe, & Ireland
howdy, harry
My paternal grandmother (the one in my icon) had father unknown and it has frustrated me to have a blank in the family tree.
so very nice to ssee you all
the problem with Ancestry is that they let you do your family tree but you can't see those of others or check out most of the "hints" they give you unless you join with a monthly fee....
it's possible you could find some relatives, haz, but if not many people there are doing it...
was drinking coffee without babble - weird.
Oh, I have loads of relatives without looking for more!
hi folks
well, if you wanted to fill in your tree
howdy, peri
I have ro8 and to8 help with other 8s please
hi everyone! I refreshed and red bars were replaced by chat.. yay
hi Aloy
I have od7/8, peri
howdy, aloy
may I have a clue plse carla
I found out that the sister of one of my ancestors was married to a pirate (Beausoleil)....another distant cousin was considered an Indian chief in the 1700s even though he wasn't a native American....got these pieces of info by messages from other relatives I did not know....
oh, it's a dragonfly. starts with a smell, ends with a man's nickname.
interesting, pen
ty hokie.. needed those!
well i am off to watch football....bbl to finish....bye all....
not seeing them
I went with my parents like 20 years ago to visit an older relative of my dad, and he showed us a portrait of a 100% Cherokee ancestor, but no Native Am. showed up in mine.
am excited about the Browns game
bye pen
It starts with most of the smell, for those who are confused
panthers are about to play da bears
well, if it was all the smell you would dead end, so I figured people would notice that
ah that would be me, Molly
ty carla and Molly
playing in Pittsburgh.. and they haven't won there since 2013 I think.. go Brownies!
Just found a Di8 peri
Yes you would dead end, hence the confusion
clue plse Zooz
Tyrant type of person.
well I've got bigger fish to fry - still need 15 s's!
I am easily confused :-)
hmmm
got it ty Zooz
did not see that 3rd letter coming, thx, zooz
I am reminded of my twisted friend who, one Halloween, went to a party with a potato dangling from the front of his belt buckle. When asked what he was dressed up as, he replied a di8. Har-dee-har.
lol
lol !
puds for spuds
He had to take it off though because the potato kept bouncing in painful ways.

yes, I would love it, thanks
first pass through, nbt and 112 to go
I have at least half of all tiles and all stats (which is rare)
this is a hard grid .. and we're at a disadvantage starting so late :D
then I'm at an advantage for playing so late at the flip
just found some wwII guys, why is that not a proper noun?
now just need that na8 to finish the n's
There is no Na8
LOL
well that explains why I'm having so much trouble finding it

I was having withdrawal symptoms!
still have 5 x 4's left, so trying to find them
welcome back, godthaab
yay for Babble!
Thanks hokie!
rattatat is no good, sob
I need 3 of those r's and 1 from the bottom. so rattatat would have been nice. only I guess then I would have needed 4.
do you have to make money again?
yes
I have tried tandom roughly 26 times, even though I know it's tandem. and yes, I do have the r
e's ended!
just found "to let enter again", the first re7.36
hmm, do not have that as far as I can tell. looking now, thanks
got it!
took me a while, gl

I had just found the root word not too long ago, so that helped
phew, r's done

Do you have the last four words for the bottom R as Ro 5,6,6,6
wow, I still need 2 from 1st col and 1 from 2nd col.

Ah okay will not need to clue them then.

Sorry, Aloy I was seeing if, Carla had them :-)
watching the Browns so am distracted, np.. and the Browns are getting beat by the Steelers so far, boo
Sad to say, Aloy, they are continuing there trend then.

that is the only ta7
I still need 5 7's but I know what they are, just can't see them.

it's frustrating when I know the first 4 letters of a 7 and the points total and still can't figure it out
well, bbl with fresh eyes or a willingness to list. bye!
bye, HH
sounds like an ad - "must have fresh eyes or willingness to list"
92 and not seeing anything at the moment

need to do that. Have a bunch of christmas scraps -- maybe I should make masks out of them
yeah, I need to do that with Halloween and Xmas
I'm just so tired of making masks
they would be kind of a neat thing to throw in each family's Christmas parcel though.

LOL, I was like, who's bitchy?
I still have as7, at7, mi7, and se7. are these everyday words? why can't I see them?

resand is definitely a word -- you can resand a table a wall, etc and in winter the city resands the streets all the time!

Most of a nap? Oh, I get it now.
well, you yelled at me earlier for not specifying it's not the whole word ;)
Correction, I did not yell at you. Just made a comment.
tomato, tomahto... :D
We need to bring The Sensitive Room back.
*Note to self: No more comments on Carla;s clues.
I think I've mentioned before it takes a LOT to offend me on the internet.
you could just call it constructive criticism
ty - was starting with the wrong a at first
What I said earlier was "if people are confused". I thought that would diffuse any feather ruffling. Apparently not. Lesson learned.
well, my feathers aren't actually ruffled, that's why I used the winky smiley when I said you yelled at me. it was a joke.
and my last 7 I had to look up was the chili peppers! argh
what letters do thel pepper begin with --- only thing I know about chili peppers is to stay far far away
se Nan
ty - just thought it might be something I've heard of

You're welcome Peri. Hope you're having a good day.
I am and you? The weather is lovely and will get even better in the next few days.
I am stocking up on basics, ie. toilet paper, toothpaste, etc. so I do not have to go out when the weather does get colder
It's hard to stock up when you live in a small place. I have just gotten our little cave organized enough to stop looking like an Amazon warehouse.
