thanks, y'all. my mom texted me to call her and she had a weird story.
1 to go!
what's the weird story?
How is she doing Carla?
well, she's doing pretty well I think. she said she got a call on the house phone from my oldest son who said he was in a car wreck and his mouth was busted up, but his car was okay, and a pregnant woman hit him and he needed bail money because he & his friends had been drinking champagne.
Matty what do you do when you sign the back of a check in the UK?
We don't.
I've heard of that scam
In fact, I think the last time I wrote a cheque was for the court fees for my divorce in 2014 (around £400)
she said it didn't sound like him but if his mouth was busted it could've been
oh matty I thought you were saying in UK you sign the back of checques, not checks.
We never write cheques - we use debit cards, contactless payment, etc
HH, I told her to call the police non-em. number and tell them about it.
I am not even sure where my chequebook is, or even if I have one
FTR, I called and woke him up and he was at his townhouse, fine.
She said she told him she didn't think she could help him so I hope that means she didn't do anything.
May I have a nudge, that I shall probably kick myself for, for the AN6? Please?
crazy. at least he wasn't with a nigerian princess asking for her bank account number
But if someone were to give you a check and you wanted to deposit it, UK banks do not require en7ment?
almond (?) flavoring
I told her he doesn't even have her house number
NM - found it (but thanks!)
an6 - body science starter + preposition
oops too slow!
If I deposit a US cheque (which occasionally happens) then yes, otherwise no
I'm done - thanks all cluers. fa6 was my last
I think signing the back has also become somewhat optional here too. they never examine it when I deposit them.
wtg dan!
I just usually write For Deposit Only
finished here! Easy one for a small one.
Weird clue for fa6 earlier. No clue who Gorey is.
yay carla
6 to go.
Remember Sniglets? One of my favourites was the 'mega-nega bar' - that's the line you write on a cheque after the amount to prevent people from writing 'and a million dollars'
When I deposit a check with my phone, it requires a photo of the front and back (where you en7 it)
somehow I had monkeyed the fa6 before all the Gorey talk but I have no idea either. and I was playing last night without my glasses so I couldn't really read the chat anyway. LOL
I always get it from the howling fa6s, an expression from a great David Foster Wallace book.
Good morning, all. Does anyone have a clue for the ge6/24?
ah - now I know my missing G.
ends with a double vowel
3 to go!
we've had it very recently Judi. it's hindu. I got it last night accidentally because my iPad keyboard does extra letters a lot.
Uhg. I need a clue for dummies, then. I'm not up on my Hindi.
A word for a male + 2 vowels
ge6 - polite male short form double vowel
Got it. Ty and fireworks.
Congrats. Your avatar could be Vincent van Cough
Molly I think you would quite enjoy Edward Gorey. very timely for this weekend's holiday
en7, please?
en7 sign the back of a check
thanks
an8, please?

care to share Freeman?
an8...bug + red flower of love with a consonant stuck in the middle. Weird word.

Good morning, peri.
Bea! Peri!
Good morning, folks.
hi ori
Molly, are you expecting any of the remnants of Zeta?
Origami!
Ori!
Got them already Bea, it's a rain fest out there today.
Molly! My we are a perky group this morning :D
I am not perky
We! believe! in! using! as! many! exclamation! points! as! possible!
Oh, I see!!
Maybe it has gone farther north than expected. We had a report from the power company to expect high winds, heavy rain and poweroutages
I know the fa6 has been clued but I will not find it
fa6 air circulator + frog cousin minus a vowel
ty Bea!
I will pretend to be perky
Winds are supposed to hit here later today. Why so glum, Peri?
I am tired. did not sleep well again last night
and it is gray and rainy outside
I need help with bottom O plse and bottom R in right column too pls
I'm with you, peri. I woke up at 4 a.m. and could not go back to sleep. And was woken up by a volley of gunshots at 2 a.m. Sigh.
oh no, that does not sound good ori
There are only 2 o words and you can sniff them both out. One is a plural.
sheesh, I already had the singular. thanks
That R is what keeps a tree in the ground
What is it with people who play this game and gun toting neighbors. You are going to make all those people in other countries believe all that crap about how all Americans carry guns.
thanks. so now not only am I tired I am stupid too :(
Being tired makes me slow, Peri
I live near a ghetto and we get spill-over. Lots of nefarious types around here.
Looks like we may not have to deal with Zeta. Now if we didn't have to deal with a full moon, a time change, Halloween and an election, life might be pretty good.
I know how you feel, ori. We have a lot of that kind of activity in our neighborhood.
What I don't get is teenagers trick or treating. We stopped by 6th grade
I went trick or treating as a teenager and loved it.
Of course, I was born in 1946
I didn't like Halloween parties, because of the drinking, so our friends chose to trick or treat instead :)
Once our kids were too old, we left our light off and the screen door locked
I think the last time I trick or treated was in 7th grade and I felt like I was too old so quit after that.
I enjoy seeing some of the more creative costumes. Kids should have fun at Halloween.
Peri, try Nighty Night tea. A relation in Chicago sent me some when I was having problems sleeping. You can't get it here in England but as you are in the good ole USA you shouldn't have any problem getting hold of some. It works a treat.
Bea! we are having heavy winds here. power has flickered a few times.
What's in that tea?
Bacardi 151
Haaa! Sounds like most excellent tea then
Seriously it's a blend of passionflower and chamomile.
I had some tea K cups called Sleepytime. no idea what was in it and I think I only tried one because I just can't with tea.
An6 please?
good morning all --- shouldn't take long!
an + vont + vowelwel + double consona
matty, it is up to you what you add to the tea. It works just fine as it is.
sorry an + vowel + double consonant + vowel
Tx bichon!
yvw
Why is it now "i just can't"? Is I just can't deal with out of vogue or something? It's like people posting THIS
Finito! Have a great day, all!
I just can't like it
bye matty!
stats for the 8 please?
18 - going to have to list I guess
ta 8/40 and an8/40
ty ursh
st 7 please?
nm - found it
*!*~*!* hagd everyone and stay safe :)
Fw!!
I know about teas that can help with sleep but that is more liquid to drink and I try to limit the liquids I drink in the evening. I get up to pee enough during the night as it is
help with st7 please
nm
Peri have you tried any of the free guided meditation for sleep on the internet. Those can be helpful to put you in a calm state before bed.
Here's another sleep-inducing idea, courtesy of one of my students. Imagine a skill that you're good at--crocheting, cooking, even Babbling. Now plan in your head a You Tube style tutorial on that skill. Every time you use this method, start from the very beginning of your 'lecture' and use identical phrasing if possible. I've tried it and it does work! Mine is how to make tiramisu, and I never get to the 'dust it with cocoa' ending before I am asleep.
did everyone fall asleep ??
pore
am i the only one having trouble with their computer ? things seeem sooooooooooooo slow.
morning all, just starting on this monster
How are you and Walter feeling, SMom?
yes I have Molly. they help somewhat
It's frustrating to not be able to sleep. I hope this bout of insomnia passes soon.
why can't we have skort?
Because it would be mis-spelled on this grid TO
Hello all!
Any clues for the ge6?
literary ***re + "can i come along ***?"
TY mael!
ge6/24 type of penguin
hi nef! was just wondering about you yesterday
tough grid. hate it.
any clues for the 8s? or 7s? i dont even have sixes!
just got g clue below so now have a g six.
ty
i'm sure there are some I seem to remember some when I worked on it earlier today.
Hi TO. I’m just returning to “life†again (Meaning online activity) after a crazy fall. We’ve moved into a senior living place because my hubby was getting worse. So we moved Sept. 14th, and I got the house ready to sell; it went on the market on Oct. 24th & I accepted an offer on the 27th. Closing will be Dec. 10th.
wow, you have lots of news! how is your new plave?
It amazes me that the real estate market is booming in a time when so many people are out of work.
i'm tempted to sell now and rent. it's a renter;s market if you want city living.
strange times we are living through.
my nephew got a gorgeous condo rental in Hoboken. Beofre covid, it would have fetched a lot more.
time to buy in a city because others are fleeing.
i will not live in philadelphia at any price.
dont rent because inflation is due and you lose big with that. so sell but rebuy in a city. and prices are down in may cities.
i am a realtor by the way.
We’re in a 1 bedroom + den apartment, just about 1000 sq. ft. & very nice. The people are nice too ( we seem to be on the younger side, but we haven’t met many people yet due to Covid).
no way. no city.
unless you consider lambertville or bethlehem "the city"
fant
We’re just 4 miles from our old house, same suburb, parish, etc. But closer to a drug store & grocery store (&, for my hubby; closerto a DQ also).
mmm, flying saucers...
there are lots of golden opportunities now.
What? You don't like Dairy Queen?
yummy flying saucers...
I like dairy queen, he LOVES dairy queen. Actually, he LOVES ice cream.
i am going to make more ginger cookies today. soon.
i gave a dozen and half away and ate the rest. need more.
LOL, TO; how big was that recipe? I haven’t made cookies for a long time...
i made half a recipe, i think it made 3 dozen with a 1 tbs scoop
maybe four dozwn
i made half a cake and it was awful. i guess the ingredients in duncan hines spice cake have changed. the curse of the scratch baker.
that was my favorite winter cake: spice with chocolate pudding filling.
Sounds good, maybe if I find where everything is later today I might think about baking something for fun.
we were not big on sugary icing.
do you like your new place?
i have been craving cake but the line outside the bakery is ridiculous.
I really do like it. It feels like I’m playing house right now because it’s so much easier to care for.
i'm happy for you.
i crave a nice new place, small with all the bells and whistles.
We can fix our own meals or order from the menu. Unfortuneately, due to Covid, we can’t go to the dining room here, but they deliver the meals to our door.
yes, a friend of a friend lives in anne's choice and the deal is the same. she moved from a three story townhouse crammed with stuff.
i don't feel quite ready for that, but if you get your heart set on a certain model you have to move when one is available.
any clues for fa 6 out there? ty
Our place was crammed full too, after 28 years you forget how big your house is, & how much “stuff†you have.
i know. i've been paring down.
I fell in love with the house again once we emptied it out.
i have a friend with an etsy shop who will sell some of my smaller items.
I *thought* I was getting rid of stuff over this whole last year.; but in reality I hadn’t even put a dent in it.
i hear that. i am happier with less. and also at this point i am done with wringing every last thread out of things. got kitchen and bath painted, getting new stuff for them
lol nef i get it
i was dating a man who kept everything. EVERYTHING. his stuff owns him.
every tie we talk and i say i got rid of stuff, he cringes.
americans are known for owning so so so much stuff. we are always donating and yet still have way too much.
i see so many storage facilities being built.
i am amazed.
That’s where I had problems! Getting rid of the old towels, & stuff. They were still “good enough†for us to use; but my 2 friendscame over & threw stuff out because they thought it was time for a new beginning.
oh, i got that story when it took months for him to ove from an two bedroom apt to a house. two months. and more even
every inch was crammed with stuff. books, scientific equipment...
time to make the cookies dough. i am happy to see you nef and hear you are well.
(And I guess they were right about some of it; but we’re still looking for things: such as a bottle of glue; or a 2nd set of Sheets that were about a year old— they got rid of all the unmatched ones. I finally found the 2nd set of sheets, wrapped around a delicate Lladro nurse statue given to me by my co-workers when I retired from the hospital.
I hope you’re doing well too, TO. Taks care!
i get that, too. sometimes i still say, gee i' sorry i got rid of that. but with a lovely painted wall, i don't want to rehang shelves with my collection. and i want a new dish drainer and new dish towels...such a small want.
when it's been drageed around since my first apartment, it's done its duty.
9 to go and stuck.
2 to go and distracted
torka
not good anyway :)
could I have a clue for the second g? I have the posh male.
type of penguin
if you were also a posh male, youd say "i'm a ge6!"
thanks - why didn't I see that?
or more cryptically "a posh male also"
clue for an8?
bent plant hairs...
and also st7

thanks!
I'm glad you got it hoya. I have the word and that clue eludes me.
I actually got it from that clue.
I guess I am not as smart as the rest of you : D
I didn't get bent plant hairs either
That I don't get

anyone have clues for the en 7 word? ty
What you do when you sign the back of a check
does anyone have the en 7 to clue or help me with? i have looked through more words and i am so frustrated. help please.
i have been asking for this for hours.......ugh. so frustrated. molly or owl or sukee, do any of you have it?
oh my i totally missed the clue molly and i just saw it and ty ty ty!
got it and done for today. ty ty molly!
May I have a clue for the an6? I'm sure I'm going to feel stupid once I get it.
It's the name of a tree from tropical America, as well as a dye produced from its seeds, if that helps.
Starts with a shortened version of a woman's name, followed by a double consonant, ending with a vowel.
I guess it's usually spelt with the full version of the woman's name (with doubled consonants), but this is an alternate spelling.
Thank you all. I should have seen it and just couldn't.
Just found the an8. It is the insect + a flower with and extra consonant.
And st7 was my final word.
And now I see that the st7 was the insect who likes data.
st 7 pls?
st7/28 is st 4/4 plus picnic pest 72 Temple Owl and hello
