sevens severed
surprised how many words i can't have, strim, pils, lilo
two common english words not allowed -strim and lilo
Strange isn't it!
I thought so yeah.
I wonder what they call a strimmer in the US
just googled it, brushcutter.
I did not even know it had a different name in the US.
I always wonder that spellit
Aha. we call them weed whackers.
Good morning, friends.
Good morning!
Just to get technical, there is a difference between a grass trimmer/edger and a brush cutter. A grass trimmer is powered by a strong string (hence the term strimmer/string trimmer). A brush cutter is made to cut up thicker vegetation. End of public service announcement. Proceed.
A brush cutter or brush hog is usually pulled behind a tractor.
This is an annoying grid.
I thought the 8/9 combination was extremely annoying. And really? Someone just pulled it out of thin air at the fl4? A 17th century Latin term?
I haven't found it yet. But will brush off my Latin and look.
Carpe diem! : D
Aha! I think of it more Italian than Latin.
mint
oops..sorry

Good morning, all.
Hey, Judi.
Judi has joined the jamboree.
That 8/9 combo has me completely confused.
In what way?
I don't get the clue.
There really wasn't a clue.
Hence my confusion. lol

Try counting to 600 in Italian.
Hmm. I'm afraid I don't speak or count in Italian.
Does it use the root for 1/2 or partial?
No
Ok, well that narrows it down a bit.
A "penny" for your thoughts...=)
Got it.
=)
17th century Italian... puh-leeze.
My thoughts exactly. When it comes to scraping the bottom of the barrel, the Enable word nerds are champion.
hello all
I assume the grid is fed into a computer and it just spits out all words it recognizes as a "real" haha word
and more words should be called more wtf words
Time for a break. 37 left.
see, my problem is that I do speak italian but I have no idea which italian words enable might like :)
hi all. clue for the 8 and 9 please with stats. ty.
i dont get the ones below
REad down the chat and you will find the clues.
Cheers!
Then google 600 in Italian.
Bottms up!
THAT 8/9 IS NOT ENGLISH FOR SURE. AND SHOULD NOT BE PLURAL!!!!!!!!! I OBJECT! i got them but gee, how were any of us to know that one????????? bad grid.
Well, then stop playing.
yup. off for today
And no one ever said enable was only English.
a clue for mi7 please?
ends with muscle twitch

excellent, thanks
I call BS on the 8/9 too. Ridiculous! good morning everyone.
Enable has never been only English. We have Yiddish, Scot, Dutch, Spanish and French all the time.
and portuguese and nigerian, and ...
That doesn't make it any less annoying when it happens.

Hey y’all. On low campground cell signal today. Typed a big post earlier and I don’t think it ever went through.
Never saw it Carla.
Everything okay?
Yes, was just commenting on how we’ve discussed strimmer before and it was new to me at the time but it’s a lovely portmanteau. Also, we always called them weedeaters.
you'll have to wait till 11:45 for that answer bea
So true ru
Where are you camoing?
camping
Anything for a chance to use portmanteau.
Asheville
Bet it is lovely there right now.
Yep, I saw you did anything to avoid using it, Molly ;P
*Note to self: Warn sister that chatty Babble player is in her neck of the woods
hokie mountains?
Well, when it warms up I will be mountain biking, so just tell her to stay off all the trails
ohh..are you going to tour teh castle?
It is cold at night/morning but really nice. Saw 3 guys running on the trails yesterday in just tiny running shorts, no shirts. Really, dudes, it was low-mid 60s. Not necessary.
Were they "hot"?
some runners are just nuts
Not going to Biltmore this trip. My season pass ran out and I’m not going to renew during the pandemic.
yesterday, our next door neighbor was outside with ho shirt on before noon
In the 60's you get hot quickly
good point hokie
good moring all - does anyone have stats for the 9 please?
se9/60
Get ready for it...
They were young but I wasn’t close enough to get a good idea of age. Probably a high school or college cross country team practicing. Yes, runners in general are nuts. And mr. Homie was one and he says you have to be somewhat mental to do it.

Italian for 600 google it
I just googled 600 in italian

we're having a babble meet up out here in california :D
all i am getting is the pandemic stuff
Really? Who is attending the Babble Hootenanny?
Why are you getting pandemic stuff, mlf?
just me and ori having lunch
Must be crazy people in the midst of a pandemic :D

ty for the italian clue
we'll be socially distanced drinking :D
the way i typed it into google i guess
i think there comes a time when men shouldn't go shirtless .. like some of my neighbors
Did anyone ever give you stats for the o, mlfan? That is one of my blank ones.
like my neighbors too lol
How do two people stay "socially distanced" at lunch?
My dad told me I couldn't go shirtless anymore when I was 12. I was devastated.
hokie no stats for the o
for the o, I have or 5/6 and os 5
outside tables and about 6 feet apart
ty origami got the os5
x stats?
You literally sit at two different tables, six feet apart? How does one carry on a conversation like that?
we scream a lot

Or do you just sit there and text each other?

we could do that too

I am absolutely astounded at the election results. I had no idea so many people would vote for Trump. I really thought Biden had it in the bag.
It's very surprising to me as well, Molly.
trump plays well to the rural people in many states
i had a feeling this was going to be a close election
I'm praying for NV!
Who knows when this is going to be over, with the lawsuits looming.
And then the recounts...It will never end.
Just like covid.
one thing you can be sure of -- Trump will have to be dragged out of the White House kicking and screaming
In all seriousness though -- if the supreme court supports him in stopping the counting, or changing the rules for ballot submission and acceptance after the vote, you will no longer have a democracy to my way of thinking
Nan, I don't think we have had true democracy in a long time.
Are these c’s really hard? Only see 5
I find it hard to believe so many people voted for such blatant incompetence
Well, really, we are a republic and not a democracy.
The ci's were difficult, Carla.
Do you have the yellow gem?
in that case, ori, you will no longer have government "by the people"
thanks bea you closed out my c
c's
=)
We don't have a government "by the people". We have a government "by the wealthy".
The US is a democratic republic. So we still have government by the people, but in theory it operates to guard against tyranny of the majority. That's the theory :D
I have to go do the weekly shopping. See you all next time.
hi all. 47 to go
that's when I listed Harry
42 now :) sorry nan
now there's a statement where Molly and i agree 100%
I admire anyone who can just grocery shop once a week. I almost always have to do it in two shops.
I go once a week, and my wife makes several more trips behind my back

no but really. he must have like legally changed his name to that. the jason bourne part COULD have been done by his parents based on the BOOK, which came out in 1980, but the matrix wasn't based on a book and the movie is from 1999
Just in case anyone was wondering, Kanye has conceded defeat. But never fear, he will run again in 2024. Hey, if Trump got in The White House, I believe anyone can.

i had a funny conversation with my sister last night. she likes the bachelorette, and it usually airs on tuesday, but it was postponed, and then postponed again last night, due to the election coverage. so i said, "well, don't worry, i can already tell you it's going to be the most dramatic episode ever." and she said, "IT REALLY IS!!"
I just read that the deadline for postal votes in North Carolina is 10 November, Alaska is 12 November, and in Washington state, it stretches to 23 November. Why isn't the deadline the same everywhere?
because each state is allowed to make their own rules
just like the primaries are held all different times
What I don't get is that if people wait until after November 3, they get the benefit of election day and post election day results.
I'm fine with each state making their own rules. But it should be that all votes must be cast by November 3.
no, they just have to ARRIVE by the later day
they still have to be POSTMARKED by the 3rd
it's just how long the state is allowing for the mail to come through
This is all craziness anyway. We live in a digital world and the election tallying sounds like they are counting slips of paper.
well some states have tried to move digital but it turns out paper is much less hackable :)
it's kinda like how we thought we'd move from passwords to like fingerprint or retina scans. but the problem is, if someone DOES find a way to fake your fingerprint, it's not like you can just change it the way you can change a password.
Oh gross, that reminds me of that Dan Brown movie where the guy gets killed so his eyeballs can be stolen to fake a retinal scan.
yuck
I'd forgotten about that movie.
fireworks!
Congrats, Marksdolly!
thank you! any clues needed before I scoot?
Not for me but thank you.

I could use a hint for that ce6. It has to be my missing c
Well, I will not @#^&* your ask either, Bleep
Ah, geesh. Thanks!
How was your distanced lunch?
Very nice!
It's really nice to see someone. Since I am working at home and live alone I seldom see anyone face-to-face.
Well good, I'm glad you two had a good time.
Do you not get out to stores or anything?
I seldom go to the store. Mostly I have things delivered.
Wow, that is a very secluded life. No wonder you were glad to get out and about.
I have lots of emails and phone calls with friends. But it's not the same and face-to-face contact.
hi, all, esp those sheltering solo.
Evening all! Could someone clue me the mi 4/5 combo right after the rodent please
easiest to say 'chicken chow mi 4/5' but not really the def.
Thanks, got it
Should have said 'sounds like', sorry. Long day.
Are people still "sheltering"? I thought those kind of restrictions had been lifted in most states.
c imes
are you asking about whether people are still minimizing their exposure, or whether there are still restrictive regulations in place?
I've been working from home since March but not "sheltering", they've just not allowed us back in the office, yet. (Hurt my feelings why doncha, lol)
I think many are just using common sense and erring on the side of caution. I know that most of our local churches are having services online but the biggest in town started gathering as soon as mandatory restrictions went to suggested restrictions. A school chum contacted it at that particular church and passed away... they still have a packed house every Sunday.
I asked about restrictions. I thought we were beyond sheltering. Except for people with severe immunity problems.
I don't know of any places putting restrictions back in place, but case counts and hospitalizations are going the wrong direction in lots of places
it would not surprise me, particularly as outdoor activities get more difficult, weather wise
As someone who has been working "in office" during all of this, I am seeing a lot more traffic on the roads these days. I assumed that people who have been working from home are making moves to be in office more.
could be
thanks to Kallia, lickety, welki and all cluers, I am finito!
But there is still a lot of "people working from home" who are out walking, bike riding and dog walking during work hours.
Massachusetts has opted to put some restrictions back in place.... Sigh. But not another shutdown. And hi, all!
And congrats to finishers!
Maybe they are more productive when working from home. Just giving them the benefit of the doubt. If they are all getting their work done in a shorter work day, maybe we need to re-evaluate the whole concept of working 40 hours a week. Not that I can be used as an example, as I only work 4 hours a day. But I do take longish breaks that I make up for later in the day.
I do walk before I get on the clock--just a brief walk. I walk for a bit midday--I have an hour lunch--and I walk after work. I have zero guilt. Also, MIT is pretty flexible with the staff now and as long as we are working 8 hours, they don't have to be clocked between 8a and 6p.
of course it depends on the type of work and the culture of your colleagues, whether you are in the same space together or fully virtual or somewhere in between
I started a new job at the end of April and I still haven't seen my boss or any coworkers in real life, except for the two I worked with at a previous job
Yes, Dan, it is about the culture and type. And that's wild about your new job.
hi!
(a little late, i think)
Hi all. I'm the same as Pam -- walk in the morning, sneak out for 5-15-minute walks during the day if windows open up, and then walk in the evening. I put in 8 to 10 hours each day, and I have zero guilt if I decide to take a break mid-day to preserve my sanity. Especially as the days are getting shorter and my window for getting sunlight is getting smaller.

tr6 start with 3 ends with last 3 of the bathroom next to the ladies...
Jess, I am tired or dumb but what is 3 ends
start with a prefix for 3, end with last three of...
tr6. tr*, means three + opposite of women
heya Dan. how goes it? watching your election with heart in mouth.
it goes okay. i wish that both candidates were urging calm, wanting every voice to be heard, and waiting for the states to finish their processes, instead of only one of them
hmmm.... tr*, means three + most of opposite of roosters
how's your health, and how are things down in Melb?
