7:05 am

phew 73 P's

7:20 am

Good morning, friends.

Bea!

7:30 am

Carla!

phantom depart

oh my, I was like, this is going nicely, then I noticed there are 330 words and then I saw 61 P's.

7:43 am

Yep

7:43 am

And another 12 at the bottom.

eek

7:45 am

Everyone!

7:46 am

Molly!

Molly!

7:47 am

Hooray for 21/2 day work weeks!

reads as 21 2 day work weeks

7:47 am

Yippee!

7:48 am

Too bad you have to go in for half a day on Wed. That is stoopid.

7:48 am

Yeah, this place does not do justice to fractions.

7:49 am

I just saw a coffee mug with the Grinch on it that says "Touch my coffee and I will slap you so hard that Google can't find you". : D

7:49 am

LOL!

7:50 am

And it would be a full day Wednesday if I had not taken the half day myself. I work for Puritans who don't believe in early dismissal the day before a holiday weekend.

I have taken Thursday and Friday off - not that anything is happening here, mind, but I've done so anyway

7:50 am

I have one that has Cruella on it and it says, "Bitchy, Moi?"

matty!

7:51 am

I'm sure not many celebrate Thanksgiving over there, matty. =)

Hi Carla! And, of course Bea, Molly !

7:52 am

so close to having earwax

No, not as such ;) And a turkey is too big for three people anyway

7:53 am

We are having a turkey for three.

7:53 am

Good morning, all.

I just got a half breast for 4 people!

7:53 am

Judi!

It's not the same, though, when it isn't smothered in bacon ;)

judi!

7:53 am

Oh dear Matty, is the girl STILL living with you?

7:53 am

How in the world did you find half a turkey breast?

Oh yeah - it'll be six months in a couple of weeks

And no sign of any change

very close for parsnip, too

7:54 am

I'm going to smother mine with Duke's Mayonnaise

bea, they were at Trader Joe's

7:54 am

Aw.

The Windsor Farm Shop (near us) does lovely turkey crowns absolutely covered in bacon - it really helps keep it moist - plus, bacon makes everything (except possibly ice cream) better ;)

looks pretty big and I got the biggest one

7:55 am

We will be having turkey loin cooked on the grill. Hubby whined while we were in the grocery store yesterday. Saw some woman buying several boxes of stuffing mix. I said we didn't need stuffing as we would be having mashed potatoes. Since he whined, we are now having stuffing too. Just the two of us, mind you.

you really can't have one without the other, judi

7:56 am

We always have stuffing AND mashed potatoes. And sweet potatoes.

Mmmm..stuffing with pork sausage me4. Are you sensing a theme here? ;)

7:56 am

Yes, I put sausage in my stuffing. Mmm.

7:56 am

I was thinking about adding sausage to mine.

we call it dressing and we do not put sausage in, though I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Oh, do - but make sure it's good quality sausage

7:57 am

The sweet potato thing I make is masterpiece. The topping is butter, brown sugar, flour, pecans and coconut.

7:57 am

Bob Evans sage sausage is killer in stuffing.

7:58 am

Sounds awesome, Moly. I'm saving the sweet potatoes for leftovers.

I can't like sweet potatoes

I'm struggling to get excited even for Christmas - and for the OHs 60th birthday, which is two days before Christmas. Just not feeling it.

7:59 am

It's been such a weird year. I think a lot of people will have trouble getting in the holiday spirit.

almost pregnant in the grid (not me)

8:00 am

So true, Molls. Covid has sucked the fun out of damn near everything.

8:01 am

And there will be so many with someone missing.

8:02 am

Matty you must feel totally ripped off. Six months with the faux step-daughter and no sign of when you can see the grand girly.

well, made it halfway on the first P.

8:06 am

Nice work!

I think you've nailed it, Molly. Many of the things that are irritating me are minor in the great scheme of things, so I clamp down on it - but whilst that keeps me from saying anything stupid, it doesn't keep me from thinking it

I feel like I flip flop between barely contained fury and low grade sadness

8:12 am

I think there are a lot of people with the same emotions, matty.

I know. That's part of the reason why I try to keep it to myself, mostly (except, of course, just now)

8:16 am

covid has given me a sense of what retirement is like

8:17 am

But hopefully you would be more mobile, ru.

8:20 am

well one thing for sure cocktail hour is a lot earlier these days :D

8:20 am

LOL! I'll drink to that.

8:21 am

Did someone say booze?

8:22 am

Ah yes. Crossy will bring the bacon infused vodka.

8:22 am

Actually I was thinking of my bacon stuffing after all that stuffing talk earlier in the chog.

8:24 am

Aren't you bacon weaving your turkey this year, Crossy?

8:25 am

lol, Bacon weave mats have many applications--turkey just being one f them. :)

8:25 am

My "O" is being temperamental on this keyboard.

8:26 am

177 words left. Gotta tap out on this one. Off to do some real work. Later, kids!

8:26 am

Though I mainly use the standard "5x5" weave for most uses.

I also have 177 left!

going to zoom workout now. TTFN

8:27 am

Good grief--look at all those "P" words!

8:29 am

61 + 12!

8:30 am

morning all

8:30 am

Hey, lindy.

8:30 am

Hello

8:31 am

Hi, Scrabs

8:32 am

Hi bichon. How are you, Mr Bichon, and Marco?

8:33 am

Virus free. Not leaving the house for T'day or Christmas. We had plans to go see the CA grandkids. Alas.

8:34 am

Wise decisions, as I listen to a story about crowded airports. I fear the surge of COVID in 1-2 wks.

8:35 am

Wesleyan students have left. Not returning til Feb.

8:35 am

Arizona's ICU beds are full and they have run out of ICU MDs and nurses.

8:35 am

That's good, bichon.

8:36 am

surge? there's already a million cases in the US..

8:36 am

My b.i.l went to SD to hunt quail. He returned with the virus, was mighty sick.

8:36 am

And COVID is projected to peak in February.

8:36 am

South Dakota is the worst state for covid there is.. is he nuts

8:36 am

Scrabbler: Where are you getting your data? The AZ DHS site does not indicate that ICU capacity is reached

8:37 am

An AZ ICU doc on Twitter posted that last night.

8:37 am

He is a retired phyisician and he is very nuts

8:38 am

that south dakota governor has all those deaths on her hands ... what an idiot

8:38 am

Twitter is not the most reliable source of information

8:38 am

A career in medicine will do that, bichon. *wink*

Finally, under 100 words left

8:45 am

93 here on first pass.. seems a bit slower now

8:46 am

189 to go and going slow

8:47 am

Good Monday Morning everyone!

8:47 am

Hi Aloy. Nice new car you got.

8:48 am

ty Scrabbs, we just finished driving it 22 hours to Florida.. think it is broken in now.

8:48 am

yes.. looks like a nice car.. i didn't know that Jaguars had barbeque features from her last car

8:48 am

Nie, Aloy. Haha, ruru.

8:49 am

ooh ru, don't know whether to laugh or cry

8:49 am

at this point with a new car.. you laugh about it now

8:49 am

oh, ok.. lol, sniff

8:50 am

A very traumatic experience for you, Aloy.

8:50 am

I must depart now to shop for my mom and visit her. Enjoy the day.

8:51 am

it was.. out of the blue, for non FB Babblers, my old car started smoking and then caught fire.. total loss. Bye, Scrabbs, take care

8:52 am

did you try the nicotine patches first on the car aloy :D

8:52 am

LOL.. now that was a good one, ru!

8:53 am

after something like that it's best to laugh about it especially since you weren't hurt at all

8:54 am

you are right

8:54 am

I was lucky

8:54 am

yes you were VERY lucky

9:08 am

whew...half-way

9:09 am

the name of my garage band in high school is in the grid today....we were called the Proteens.....LOL....

9:11 am

😂😂

9:11 am

Great name!

9:12 am

our drummer had to make his own drum set....he used some wooden and hard cardboard boxes from the candy store across the street....

9:12 am

ty, aloy....

Are there any ps words in the grid today?

9:13 am

dk....

9:14 am

no

OK, thanks ;)

9:14 am

yw

9:18 am

Did you record any of your music, Pen?

9:19 am

my brother recorded a few tunes on a reel to reel tape recorder but I have no idea what happened to the tape....

9:20 am

Aw that is a shame. bet that would of been great to listen to it again!

9:20 am

What type of songs did you do?

9:21 am

we literally played in the garage for about three years....only gigs we had were a friend's birthday party, my parents' anniversary party, and my grandparents' anniversary party....

9:22 am

we played your basic rock and roll....

9:22 am

Still good though!

9:22 am

it was a lot of fun....

9:23 am

drummer had to rent a drum set for the gigs.. ;o)

9:23 am

What were you? Singer or did you play an instrument?

9:23 am

oh i was a guitarist.....did do some background vocals occasionally....

9:24 am

i was also in a folk group in high school....we were called The Group....

9:24 am

Nice! Do you still play a bit or have you stopped altogether?

9:26 am

Oh I still have a guitar, but it's an acoustic one....sold the electric one years ago....i play it occasionally, but now I play the alto recorder more....i am in a recorder group....we have played at a nursing home every week in their waiting room for years.....not now, of course...

9:27 am

That is really good! I wished I had learned an instrument when I was younger. Good for you!

I had no idea there were recorder groups. still have my recorder from elementary school!

9:28 am

it's fun....easier to pick up the recorder after playing the guitar....actually took guitar lessons as a kid....

9:29 am

I could play the triangle!

9:29 am

yes, carla....we have five different kinds of recorders.....sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor and bass....

9:29 am

a love triangle zooz?

I assume the ones we played in school were soprano

9:29 am

i know someone who plays the triangle in an orchestra, zooz....

9:30 am

Lol trust you, Ru!

9:30 am

yes, soprano....i can play the sopranino which is smaller than a soprano and the alto....'

9:30 am

I never knew recorders were so complicated

9:31 am

sopranino! that would be a great boggle word

I also still have my flute. Played flute from 5th-12th grade (and sometimes piccolo).

9:34 am

there are actually three different sizes of bass recorders....some are so large that the player has to stand on a stool to play it....

wow

9:34 am

carla, you could probably learn to play the recorder quite easily...

I can pick out tunes on it pretty easily

9:35 am

i like the alto because it's lower pitched.....not as screechy as a soprano....

9:36 am

harry....i have seen soprano in babble but never sopranino.....

I tried learning the fiddle a couple of years ago. My dad and oldest brother played in old-time bluegrass bands for years and my dad gave me a fiddle and a guitar to learn. I gave the guitar back at one point because someone else wanted to learn.

9:36 am

it's in enable!

9:37 am

it's a real word, harry.....LOL....

9:37 am

it sounds like a shape of pasta :)

the fiddle I tried. bought several books, one of which had a CD. it's so hard. I could play some easy tunes but just didn't put the time or effort in to stick with it. so, I gave it to my other brother because he wanted to learn.

9:38 am

the guitar can be learned pretty easily as well if you already read music....my great nephew taught himself to play by watching YouTube....i was so impressed that i gave him my old 12 string guitar for Christmas when he was 14....

my dad played guitar and banjo and my oldest brother played mandolin and bass. he should be able to do fiddle as it's the same as mandolin but he says he can't do the bowing.

9:39 am

did your brother take a bow too hokie

yeah, my middle brother taught himself recently to play guitar and does pretty well.

I doubt he ever took a bow but you never know.

9:40 am

i also have a banjo.....can play a few chords on it....once played it to accompany a pianist and a fiddler at a French Canadian soiree.....long, long time ago....

9:40 am

I've tried to learn banjo - never took. I'd love to be able to play though

9:40 am

and mandolin

9:41 am

do you play any instrument, Harry?

9:41 am

mostly guitar, pen

9:41 am

been playing with the same group of friends for about 35 years

9:41 am

i would think you could learn the banjo then....

9:41 am

well - different friends have come and gone

9:42 am

hi all.

9:42 am

don't know anything about the mandolin...

9:42 am

any clues for the 9? ty

9:42 am

yeah - it would take some sitting down and working at it.

9:42 am

I want it to be easy :)

9:42 am

don't have it yet, mkg...

9:42 am

I see you all are fiddling around again

9:42 am

heh heh.....it would take a little practice....

9:43 am

pi9.66 pt of one who blazed the frontier

9:43 am

Should i post a video of my playing flute, clarinet and sax. Not sure if this is de riguer....

9:43 am

ty! got the 8 and 9.

9:43 am

ty, bea....should have found that real word... ;o)

9:43 am

godthaab - can you do those all at once?

9:44 am

cool, godthaab!!

9:44 am

I wish!!!!

9:44 am

like those throat singers

9:45 am

got the corners greyed !

9:46 am

i was just looking at a video the other day that I took of my great-nephews when they were 8 and 10...they were singing the Lobster Trap Tree song.....they made up the words and sang it to the tune of O Christmas Tree.....very cute....

wow, the 9 is such a normal word. but I hadn't gotten to that P yet. ah, who am I kidding. would have never found.

9:46 am

i saw those throat singers live at a folk festival once....they were amazing...

oh, I, too, have grayed the corners

9:47 am

bet you didn't know that was a thing carla :)

9:47 am

Here is the link https://preview.tinyurl.com/y2lnfamr (Oh, yea, I forgot bass clarinet as well)

9:47 am

I'm grey except for the top P, R, and M.

wow, bea has lots of gray

9:48 am

godth - so cool!

9:48 am

Thanks, Harry!

very excellent!

9:49 am

Thanks!!!!

9:50 am

you own all these instruments?

I'm impressed you have all those instruments

9:50 am

do you play professionally?

great minds, harry

9:51 am

oooh I love the freedom you took with the scaramouche part

9:52 am

Yes. I run a conduct a couple of big bands, a concert band, and I have West Coast octet. I also do a lot of studio work. These days, I write music for film and video games.

9:53 am

22 left...Back during my zoom meeting this afternoon...

bye bea!

still working on first pass here, stuck on 3rd row E

9:54 am

me too carla!

9:54 am

bye Bea, hello again all.. back. Keep getting interrupted - should be a law vs. interrupting Babble Time!

moving on to 4th row

Aloyisius!

9:55 am

hey there hokie!

9:57 am

Gothaab....very nicely done!!....I wish I could play all those instruments....and a great job putting the thing together....

9:58 am

missing some tiles: any clues for the O second row, fifth column?

oo5/10, was in yesterday's too I think

9:59 am

oo5/10

10:00 am

Swiper was swipier than most foxes...

10:00 am

wow. ty

10:01 am

how about the E right under that O? thanks.

10:03 am

aerie

10:03 am

apologies! off to pb

10:04 am

somehow I didn't have that one

10:04 am

watch out mkg. george thorogood playing there today.

10:04 am

and for the rest of november. 2 drink minimum.

10:05 am

who is george thorogood? and what does he play?

10:05 am

he plays three chords. over and over again.

10:05 am

i saw him in concert in Montreal once....rocking night!

10:05 am

LOL, was just typing "cue 'who's George Thorogood'"

10:05 am

he's bad to the bone, mkg

10:06 am

when was that pen?

10:06 am

ok.

10:06 am

bad as to a bad musician?

10:06 am

anyone have a clue for me for that fifth column E? ty

10:06 am

oh.....not so very long ago....perhaps mid or late 90's?....he was playing at the time of the Jazz Festival....

10:07 am

wow - so he's still around? I thought he'd been banished to vegas.

10:07 am

my brothers wanted to go...i did enjoy it.....except for the standing all the time part......

10:07 am

yeah - standing is for the young.

10:07 am

well, as much as late 90s feels like yesterday, it was actually quite long ago

10:07 am

well he may not be around anymore, Harry.....that was over 20 years ago....

10:07 am

oh yeah carla - didn't realize that :)

10:08 am

hah!

10:08 am

please send me a clue for the E fifth column inbetween the music talk please.

10:08 am

HH & I had literally just said we couldn't find it before you asked for it, mkg

10:08 am

i don't have it either....

10:09 am

so if you could give us a clue for it, that'd be great ;)

10:09 am

you sound like the boss from office space

10:10 am

Gary Cole, great job in that

10:10 am

love that movie

10:11 am

so classic

10:11 am

I saw Thorogood in concert too. He was great. Guitar snobs like Harry don't like him.

10:11 am

yes - I will admit to that.

10:11 am

his songs do sound a lot alike, but I bet he does a good show

10:12 am

I bet you say the same three chords thing about Cobain too.

10:12 am

it was a fun time...

10:12 am

heh. I wont speak ill about the dead

10:12 am

name that proper noun - small town in VA near Va Tech. (if aloy is here she might get it)

10:13 am

While I can appreciate guitar genius like Eric Johnson and Jonny Lang, I do like some fun guitar as well.

10:13 am

i can like something simple if it's played well....also like some more complicated and difficult music if it's well played....

10:13 am

like yngwie maulmstien

10:13 am

have you got those e's? I can clue them if you need

10:13 am

:)

10:13 am

got me there, harry....

10:13 am

no Es here....

10:13 am

stats, please deeha

10:14 am

Since we are on guitars, I must chime in my fondness for the playing by Mark Knopfler.

10:14 am

Oh God, Harry is probably a Django Reinhardt fan too.

10:14 am

love knopfler

10:14 am

yeah, knopfler is pretty good

10:15 am

en- the end of plants! and en- very excited. ro4 nd ra4

10:15 am

ah....Dire Straits....loved them.....

10:15 am

thinking Radcliff, but partially remember one that starts with a P, hokie

10:15 am

it's in the grid, aloy

10:16 am

how could I miss that.

10:16 am

ty deeha nbt.

10:16 am

ty, deeha....

10:16 am

maybe I'll come across it and a bell will ring.. enjoyed driving through the area with fond memories of the New River

10:17 am

gotta go get ready for class - I'm remote today cause my daughter came home from college. have fun everybody!

10:17 am

yeah, I just remembered this from seeing it on the interstate signs. don't remember what exit or anything but google says it is 7.5 miles east of Blacksburg.

10:17 am

bye, Harry.. hagd

10:17 am

bye HH!

10:17 am

bye Harry....

10:18 am

thx, deeha

10:19 am

okay, I will spare you aloy, it's Ironto.

10:20 am

ty hokie.. that one I don't remember!

10:21 am

Hahaha...population 374

10:21 am

wow, that is funny

10:22 am

I feel like that had a pizza joint or something that was "famous" but I never went

10:23 am

must be the Mountain View Italian Kitchen

10:24 am

*wondering what having a pizza joint really is like*....

10:24 am

it is a lot of work where you need massive volume for slim margins.

10:25 am

*wondering if pen means a joint joint

10:25 am

Because all the big brands are perpetually undercutting you.

10:25 am

LOL ..

10:25 am

but yes, reading the trip advisor reviews of that place, that is definitely it

10:26 am

Gotta go.....colonoscopy awaits....bye all....

10:26 am

fun, good luck!

10:26 am

Ugh. sounds like fun.

10:26 am

hope you have great results, pen..

10:26 am

good morning everyone -- good luck pen

10:26 am

ty.....more fun than colon cancer, I am sure....bye!

10:26 am

morning all...just 330 to go

10:26 am

hi nan!

10:27 am

Howdy, Cybernan. :)

10:27 am

nice, moo. still working on first pass here but have finally made it to bottom row. 86 left.

10:27 am

Nice

10:27 am

Chain pizza like Dominos and Papa Johns are vile. I always go for the Mom and Pop place.

10:27 am

hi crossy

10:28 am

first pass here, too..

10:29 am

I am doing a first pass as well--as always I hope for at least 50%

10:29 am

Nan are you all hip to your cell phone now, or still in a learning curve?

10:31 am

all I can think of now is that progressive ad where the guy is teaching older people how to use their cell phones and stuff. hehehe

10:35 am

oh well, first pass complete - 75 to go - guess I'll hit the shower and see new words when I come back

10:35 am

For those looking for a nice smartphone, I highly recommend the one I have for myself--the Samsung galaxy A71. has a thin bezel, a 6.7 inch screen, and comes in at $400 C.A.D. I think if you get one in the next two weeks or so at your local Wallymart, it also comes with a $200 Walmart card for any purchase in the store. I love mine.

10:35 am

later, hokie.. (-:

10:37 am

getting there, molly -- I just use it for talk and text ... data is too expensive for the amount of use I would give it. I really don't need a computer on my phone.

10:37 am

The 4500 Ma battery is nice as well.

10:38 am

bite thy toungue crossy -- son #1 works for apple :)

10:38 am

Ugh--people still use I-Phones? :)

10:39 am

They are a nice phone, but I prefer an Android OS as it is not so proprietary.

10:39 am

and i everything else apparently

10:40 am

I-pones are good for those who need everything to sync together, phone, tablet, and pc.

10:40 am

yeah - I figure they all are -- microsoft included

10:41 am

some day, in somebody's lifetime, they will all integrte --- then watch the prices drop!

10:43 am

I have never been into Macintosh products. I had an iPod for a while. I had to use a Mac computer for a job once and almost lost my mind.

10:51 am

still wouldn't have a cell phone other than pay as you go if our internet provider hadn't provided free talk and chat along with our internet package. Data is still $45/GB/month however

10:53 am

ok all, still missing the E word in 3rd row! help!

10:54 am

en 6

10:55 am

ty. any clues???????

10:56 am

en plus tree feet

10:57 am

got it. ty so much!

10:59 am

bbl.. ty

11:07 am

Me7/36 ?

11:10 am

me plus not the bottom, two vowels in a row, Latin style.

haz!

11:12 am

Hello TO!

11:12 am

thanks Haz!

11:12 am

You're welcome, saanichat.

how are you today? i am lazy. have not obtained anything for the upcoming holiday

11:15 am

I'm fine, done my usual Monday cleaning and laundry and working myself up to making the evening meal.

11:15 am

ca 8 please?

ah, you area a virtual dynamo of domestic duty... ;)

11:16 am

Well, I like to stick to my routines, I'm a creature of habit.

11:17 am

ca8 - sounds like luxurious material for a sweater, replace one middle letter with a vowel.

My habit of late is sitting. adjusting to change of weather. i hate the cold

11:18 am

ty haz - great clue

11:18 am

You're welcome, nan.

ca8 - polish nobleman who fought in american revolution with an added vowel.

americans of polish descent hold parades on his day

11:20 am

do you really think a Canadian would know something as obscure as that? lol

no. i don't.

11:21 am

meathead's uncle in All in the Family, with a different first consonant

11:22 am

ty - got me nbs :)

wow harry!

11:22 am

The things I learn here...

11:22 am

I watched a LOT of tv as a boy.

11:22 am

lol - didn't know meathead had an uncle on the show

you will be a star at trivia in your local pub...

i could not sleep last night and pared this one down to 75 in a little over an hour.

11:24 am

Not to mention is it the guys first name Nan, not his last

11:24 am

Providing they ask questions about Polish noblemen and TV relationships.

11:24 am

clue for the SE8 pls

you never know...

11:24 am

Sorry SA8

11:24 am

Nan, try a sweater wool with a different letter in the middle

11:25 am

Oh sorry, that clue was already given

i had a guy overrule me vehemently, as drinking giys sometimes do, that the tip of a shoelace was not an aglet. we lost. he didn;t even miss a beat, much less apologize.

11:25 am

sa8 - three letters for plant juice, two letters to do over again and finish with Miss Farrow.

11:26 am

I learned aglet from watching Phineas & Ferb

11:26 am

ty Haz good clue

but the hardest trivia i ever attended was seinfeld. OMG the minutia/

11:26 am

that's a great word! sounds like gomez adams kissing his wife's arm

11:26 am

ty carla

11:27 am

You're welcome, Mary.

11:28 am

addams.

i am working on going over my collectiios of this and that and giving them to a friend with an etsy shop. i need to stop so i can clean for the holiday.

11:34 am

Is this stuff you have made yourself or things you have acquired over the yearS?

it's a trip down memory lane, amazing how i can remember where and when i acquired most of them. many flea markets over the years.

and also the friends who introduced me to the markets and the genres they collected. i feel good knowing they will go to loving homes.

11:36 am

Yes, knowing someone else will have enjoyment helps the process of letting go.

have gone through the cat collection, now working on the owls.

11:38 am

Were they all out on display or kept boxed?

many were out on shelf in kitchen, which was just repainted. shelf will not go back up.

too many were languiishing in storage.

11:39 am

A good idea, if it's not there you won't be tempted to fill it again.

11:40 am

And if they're in storage you're not getting to enjoy them anyway.

i have photos so i could put kitchen back together. sometimes make me second guess, but it's good. i found i have a coro vintage heraldry brooch from the 40s worth over $50

the costume jewelry collection will be the last to go.

11:42 am

It's probably more personal than the other things.

11:43 am

some of the old avon jewelry has become collectors items as well

yes. and i never refused any collections offered to me/ o love using vintage pins on my winter coats.

11:44 am

When I was in college and working as a Big Sister helping a 7 year old with her reading, she made a card for me, thanking me for being her to/6. I treasured that card and for a while, adopted that as my official nickname. Though I kept up with her for a number of years, I sadly lost track of her when she was in her twenties...Whenever that to/6 is in the puzzle I think of her.

11:46 am

just turned the news on -- can't believe the number of people who are travelling despite the CDC begging people to stay put for the holiday --- what is wrong with these people!!!!

ty jan. time to go. happy babbling.

11:46 am

was actually missing that to6 - ty

11:46 am

they drank the bleach

11:47 am

why don't they shut the airlines down?

11:47 am

Bye, TO. Heading to the kitchen myself.

11:47 am

either that or they are smoking something funny

11:48 am

can you imagine the protest if they did that, gemini -- think is is a good idea though

11:54 am

I can tell you this about most people. They are NOT going to do something unless they are forced to do it.

11:55 am

i saw an article where they spoke to a woman in Taiwan or somewhere, and she was saying, "we got the virus under control here because we followed orders," and when the American love of freedom was mentioned, further commented, "well, I don't have to wear a mask, and I can go visit my family. who's free now?"

11:55 am

yes, although it hurts to think that so many people are so selfish and inconsiderate.

11:58 am

Canadians for the most part followd recommendations at first but our young people are rebelling now --- sad to see the result

11:58 am

there's a trio of ca6/24 in a rows, of which i have author Truman and a kind of short pants. can anyone help me with whatever the other one is?

12:01 pm

it's a 5/6 prior to those, hursh

12:01 pm

ca 6/24 antics...or small pungent flower buds

12:01 pm

hmm, but my 5 doesn't pluralize

12:01 pm

don't have it either hurshy

12:01 pm

always makes me think of scooby doo

ca 6/14 a type of hat, what you get from being in the sun

12:02 pm

a military rank - ay ay caxx

12:02 pm

oh, no, i see what you mean amelu, that's not one of the three in a row tho

12:02 pm

thanks luv and clg!

12:03 pm

Sorry, I haven't listed. it's the only set of 3 I have, lol.

12:03 pm

ty luv

12:03 pm

funny how sometimes, if something looks like a misspelling of a word you know, you specifically do NOT try it

12:03 pm

amelu, there's a 4 and a 5 that come after antics and before Truman

12:04 pm

i do that often

12:04 pm

thanks, hursh!

12:07 pm

3:20 pm

hey, i have done a whole days work on this grid mool, i am amazed i can type at all.

3:22 pm

hokie, let me know when you find the pr 6/7 please

I might have to look them up but will do. only 22% battery left on my laptop!

3:23 pm

what letter on the 4?

3:24 pm

just found two more 4s to take me to 50

have to go back through the list. yesterday there were some weird shenanigans going on with my list vs my copy/pasted lickety list.

3:24 pm

3:30 pm

Phantom spittoon

3:30 pm

sounds terrifying

only if you're scared of ghosts

3:31 pm

it's too be exspectred

3:33 pm

pawpis - alternate spelling for dolphin

actually sounds less scary than a people spittoon

3:33 pm

unless there's a phantom spitter

3:34 pm

which goes to reason...I mean who else is going to use a phantom spittoon

alright, I'm going to have to charge this computer and do some supper prep work. will try to find words while I'm working but I don't see it happening.

3:34 pm

47 left here

but phantoms would be spitting phantom tobacco juice, so it would be better than real tobacco juice

carpong - the odor common to cars that have been left outside in a rainstorm with their windows open - a few days later

3:42 pm

caremia - a vehicle deficiency

3:48 pm

I thought carpong was an auto version of a bad 70's table tennis game

3:49 pm

that would be amusing

5:35 pm

hey lyn

5:35 pm

Hi !

5:36 pm

Happy Tuesday

5:38 pm

Happy here - not too hot nor cold - and a couple of days from officially eradicating COVID - though wisely we aren't claiming that as it is sure to crop up again with returning expats

5:38 pm

How is everything where you are?

5:38 pm

yeah, we're the opposite here, everything going back into lock-down

5:39 pm

must say by 'we' I meant Victoria

5:39 pm

Too cold, too wet, and COVID out of control. Other than that, everything s fine.

5:39 pm

yeah, assumed so...my fam up in QLD have been living normally for some time

5:39 pm

should I ask about the President or is everyone accepting it except Trump?

5:40 pm

Well, amongst republican supporters, about 77% or so believe something suspicious went on

5:41 pm

Wow - that's an awful lot of unhappy people then

5:41 pm

So that would make around 57 million or so who don't accept it...not counting anyone who didn't vote

5:41 pm

got a new humidifier, and it came with a vial of lavender. I have no interest in essential oils, but I opened it just to take a whiff, and I can't get the smell off my hands now.

5:43 pm

Can't cope with lavender either - over powering. Read an interesting article the other day about oil burners and dogs - an awful lot can have dire effects

5:43 pm

a quick search suggest rubbing alcohol...if you have any

5:43 pm

We're in a post-fact world here. In my state, the Democrat trounced his Republican opponent by more than 20% of the vote--the largest margin of victory in recent memory--and he's arguing that he won the election anyway.

5:43 pm

I'll try some hand sanetizer

5:44 pm

I'm so over these essential oils - the social workers in my school put it in the vaporizer in their offices

5:44 pm

So if winning Republican politician 'accept' Biden will that help?

5:44 pm

That ought to work; I can't see what people like about lavender--I can't abide it. Though it isn't as noxious to me as patchouli...

5:44 pm

well, just 38 left, but 23 of them are 6+ letters

5:45 pm

patchouli brings back memories of grateful dead shows though

5:45 pm

Yeah, it's the smell of hippie to me.

5:45 pm

unwashed longhaired youngsters

5:46 pm

it's the smell of victory

5:46 pm

Yup...though if you can remember the sixties, you weren't there...

5:51 pm

pr7.32 yet another word I have never seen before

5:52 pm

yeah - just monkeyed that one.

5:53 pm

Wouldn'

5:54 pm

Wouldn't that be the pr/7/36 you monkeyed?

5:54 pm

working on that right now - but ty for the hint!

5:55 pm

or are you talking about 7/32 - have that one already

5:55 pm

oh nm - I'm working on pi7/36. duh

5:55 pm

Nope...but you'll see what I did when you get it.

5:56 pm

no I had that already :)

5:58 pm

help with the pi7/26 would be welcomed

5:59 pm

do you mean the pi 7/36?

5:59 pm

yes :)

5:59 pm

no monkeying around with that one

6:00 pm

starts with urine....ends with what you can get bogged down in....

6:00 pm

oh - sorry -- thought he was asking for the pr 7/36

6:00 pm

6:01 pm

did Ru use your login, Harry?

6:01 pm

6:01 pm

6:02 pm

ty for the pi7.

6:03 pm

♪♫Just what made that little old ant, think he could move that rubber tree plant♫♪

6:03 pm

wow finished those Ps. amazing

6:04 pm

he had high hopes, Molly....

6:04 pm

You have more determination on these grids than I do Harry.

6:05 pm

High in the sky apple pie, hopes

6:05 pm

keeps me sane, curiously.

6:06 pm

had a student email me after a remote test - he felt guilty and told me he cheated.

6:07 pm

now what do you do?

6:08 pm

I went for a run.

6:08 pm

to think about it -

6:08 pm

then I asked him to send me his browser history so I can look and see where he cheated, so I don't have to give him a zero.

6:09 pm

he hasn't done that yet.

6:09 pm

In Zoomland cheating is easy and endemic, apparently.

6:10 pm

I'm sure

6:10 pm

I'm glad he felt guilty about it

6:11 pm

One of my colleagues said recently that she doesn't worry about cheating because in all her years of teaching, none of her students ever cheated.

6:11 pm

...and owned up to it which is good

6:11 pm

hah!

6:11 pm

You're right that at least he was remorseful.

6:11 pm

so I want to cut him some slack, but not teach him that there are no consequences

6:12 pm

The problem is that it's a race to the bottom. Once students think that others are cheating, they start to consider defensive cheating.

6:13 pm

In my class, the students are required to keep their grades in the top half of the class or else lose their scholarship money. So, there's a huge pressure on them.

6:13 pm

Some-one here said that using Lickety / Morewords etc was not 'cheating' but just being resourceful.

6:14 pm

wow - that's like lake wobegon! all the students are above average

6:14 pm

I wish we would simply guarantee the scholarship money for their whole degree period. It would make grades less fraught.

6:15 pm

But the dean says that we depend financially on at least 20% of them forfeiting their scholarships. Another reason I think I am retiring after this year.

6:15 pm

congratulations!

6:18 pm

DONE!

6:19 pm

Congrats!! Tough grid

6:19 pm

Doing Babble is just for fun. If asking for clues/ using Lickety/ searching Morewords/ etc. makes it more fun for someone, that's their choice. Cheating is when you take unfair and unallowed advantage of a resource that is denied to others.

6:19 pm

good night all!

6:20 pm

And congrats to you Harry! No way I will come close to finishing, but I don't mind. I just do this to relax and unwind.

6:20 pm

bye Harry

6:20 pm

G'night to you, Harry!

6:26 pm

Finished too - bye everyone

6:34 pm

I think you can't really improve at this game without making use of resources like Lickety or More Words. You can't try all the "possible" words - there are just too many.

6:35 pm

Congrats!

6:36 pm

Congrats to finishers and good morning all :)

6:36 pm

hi Liz, hi all

6:37 pm

i am also back to finish....hi all.....

6:37 pm

at least I hope to finish... ;o)

6:37 pm

I agree, Gillie and also with what Jan said about Babble being fun and as it's not competitive, how can there be "cheating"?

6:39 pm

Very true

6:42 pm

Babble is pretty competitive at the flip.

6:43 pm

It can be - for me it's a bit of fun and if I find a biggie at the beginning, I guess I do call it but that's just because it's unusual for me to find the biggies so quickly.

6:44 pm

I guess there are people, who have amazing vocabularies and also retain some of the very unusual words that appear here! I admire them but in the end I play for me and sometimes to chat to people.

6:44 pm

the flip is just another aspect of the game....part of the Babble culture, I think.....don't like it, turn off chat....

6:45 pm

Best advice pen, and something I do sometimes.

6:45 pm

Especially on the rare occasions these days that there's a troll!

6:46 pm

ap 6/21 pls

6:46 pm

And I would not agree with "Cheating is when you take unfair and un-allowed advantage of a resource that is denied to others." As in Harry's example, cheating came as the result of an internet search, which is available to all.

6:46 pm

True but I was referring to cheating within babble.

6:46 pm

there was one here the other day...but she didn't stay because she was ignored pretty much....

6:46 pm

I missed that!

6:47 pm

Pen are you referring to the person who made a comment to Kaplan?

6:47 pm

i am a bit compulsive, so I like to finish grids....i don't hesitate to ask for clues or use A 2 Z or any other resource....who am I cheating with if i do?

6:48 pm

yes, Molly....i thought it was a troll....

6:49 pm

I agreed with that person. Kaplan needs get over the constant conversation about "slam" words.

6:50 pm

at the time she was really talking about Yiddish words....i found a lot of that interesting....

6:50 pm

this grid is not easy....

6:50 pm

Down to 18 using Lickety but struggling now.

6:51 pm

As for "cheating", I find it interesting that people will not consult the list, yet feel like asking for clues is not "cheating". Everyone has their own twist on how to play this.

6:51 pm

i am also using Lickety.....31 left....

6:52 pm

yes, i find it amusing that people avoid using the list while asking for clues or hints about missing words....to each his own....

6:52 pm

That's true - I think a lot is how the game is first explained to you. But everyone uses resources to suit themselves, if they want.

6:53 pm

lots of us have our own "rules" that we play by....e.g., when to list....

6:53 pm

I also find it weird that people complain about all the stats given early on, when as you said, Pen, they have the option of turning the chat off.

6:55 pm

the flip is the flip....it's what it is....you can easily avoid it.....what i find annoying is gratuitous clueing....that's when i turn off the chat....don't ind people asking for clues, just don't like "free" clues....

6:55 pm

By clues, do you mean the stats or when words are actually clued?

6:56 pm

when words are clued and nobody has asked for the clue...

6:56 pm

Right - yes, I agree.

6:56 pm

but that's me....i can turn off chat...

6:57 pm

i like to keep an eye on chat usually...

6:57 pm

I don't like clue blurting either Pen. As for the flip, there used to be a standard that there was no clues or stats for the first hour. That got tromped by certain players.

6:57 pm

Ha! Just shows I'm becoming too used to the US spellings - missed the ap6 with the UK spelling!

6:58 pm

ha....didn't have that yet...

6:59 pm

These "p" are never ending.

7:00 pm

yes, 73 of them....

7:00 pm

I still have 9 to find.

7:01 pm

What an interesting chog! I agree that everyone has their own rules and ways of playing--to list or not to list, to lickety or not, etc. Back in the day, people criticized clues that were basically spelled out the word. Now, cluing is more relaxed. And so it goes. It's supposed to be fun, right?

7:01 pm

And hi, all!

7:02 pm

hi pam....

7:02 pm

i try to clue based on what i have learned about the person asking for a clue...

7:02 pm

Hi Pam

7:03 pm

That makes sense, Pen. And hi liz and pen!

7:03 pm

I love the really clever clues - but don't always understand them. I love the punning too and wish I was able to be so quick with my repartee!

7:04 pm

I don't use lickety or lists or the like. I also don't care if I finish or not and I LOVE big grids. But that's my level of joy.

7:04 pm

I love the clever clues even though I don't always understand them--and often, I have the word being clued, LOL!

7:04 pm

But that's the beauty of the game. No pressure - play how you like but don't spoil it for others!

7:05 pm

Exactly, Liz. I hate the flip so if I happen to be awake, I turn off babble.

7:05 pm

that's the key, liz...

7:08 pm

I think also that we all just have to accept that Enable is what it is - there are all sorts of words included. Some are really unusual, some are insulting to some people but in the end, they are words and they are in this particular dictionary, so no point in whinging or getting wound up about it!

7:09 pm

yes, no use grumbling about things you can't change....*having been a little guilty of that at times, lol*....

7:09 pm

:)

7:10 pm

Clue for the pi 7 pls

7:11 pm

well i have been through the list and still have 12 to find...

7:11 pm

Down to 14 now and going to resort to Morewords.

7:11 pm

pi 7....urine + bog....

7:11 pm

Thanks :)

7:11 pm

it's really an ant....

7:11 pm

Think Willa Cather

7:12 pm

That's what I looked up on google yesterday - sorry, should've said the last one.

7:12 pm

Thanks though Une. I'd never heard of Willa Cather.

7:12 pm

it is the last one...

7:12 pm

Oh, sorry

7:12 pm

Yes, Pen's clue was the one I needed.

7:13 pm

No worries.

7:13 pm

oh ok....good....

7:13 pm

I could just whinge and say well, if it's an ant, call it an ant 🤣

7:14 pm

heh heh....

7:14 pm

can someone please clue the ca 8?....feeling lazy tonight....had my colonoscopy this afternoon....

7:15 pm

Tx...... didn't have that one

7:15 pm

I was about to ask how that went.

7:15 pm

Ugh..

7:15 pm

had polyps....always do....but it was ok...

7:15 pm

Ca 8 - it was clued earlier as an expensive woollen fabric but lose a consonant in the middle and replace with a vowel

7:15 pm

The prep is the worst!

7:16 pm

Glad you're OK.

7:16 pm

absolutely....used to take minimal meds and watch the procedure....they have a new anesthetic and they wouldn't let me do that this time...

7:16 pm

I'm getting bored with lazy now - had a hip replacement 2 weeks ago. Now just have to build up my strength again.

7:16 pm

Glad it went well.

7:16 pm

ok so far....have to wait for the polyp analysis....

7:17 pm

ty, pam...

7:17 pm

Good luck with that.

7:17 pm

ah, good to build up your strength again....

7:17 pm

Heal well, Liz!

7:17 pm

ty...

7:17 pm

Ditto, liz!

7:18 pm

Thanks - I'm being really good doing the physio and doing several short walks but was pretty achy last night so doing a bit less today.

7:18 pm

Une, your photo is fab!

7:18 pm

ty for the clue, btw....found it....was all around that one....

7:19 pm

If you're doing the work and have a modified rest day, your body will be very happy, Liz!

7:19 pm

Keeping up with the physio but walking less today. Listening to my body! But I really miss our beach walks!

7:20 pm

i am going for a walk in the cemetery tomorrow....peaceful, quiet and no people....

7:21 pm

Sounds restful (no pun intended)

7:21 pm

it is quite nice...

7:21 pm

er 7/28?....

7:22 pm

When I lived in London, Highgate cemetery was a lovely place to walk around - Karl Marx is buried there but that's not necessarily a reason for going there.

7:22 pm

er 7 - extends the word before it with a common ending.

7:23 pm

i live in a small town...but the cemetery is a pretty good size....graves go back to the 1700s.....still people being buried there, too....

7:23 pm

ty for the clue.....should have tried that....

7:24 pm

It's really interesting looking at really old graves - something we did on our trip to Ireland last year, when we were wandering around old churchyards.

7:24 pm

yw

7:26 pm

P's punctured :)

argh, british spellings getting me once again!

7:27 pm

7:27 pm

hi carla....

hi pen

7:28 pm

Hi Carla

hi lizlin

7:28 pm

i still have maybe 4 Ps.....down to 8 now...

why are there extra, silent vowels???

7:28 pm

That UK spelling got me too and coming from the UK that should be one I remembered.

I have 20 left after listing, 13 of which are P's

7:29 pm

way too many Ps here!

7:29 pm

Must be a hangover from which ever language is at the root (I know PB) of the word.

I guess so. looks like latin for this one.

7:31 pm

don't believe in that rule, liz... ;o)

7:32 pm

from the New Latin and Ancient Greek - that particular word - according to Wikipedia!

7:32 pm

hi all 42 left

7:32 pm

hi peri....

'sup peri

7:32 pm

Hi Peri

7:32 pm

or do i need to go to the PB for that?.... ;o)

hi p4

7:33 pm

Well, me too then, I guess.

7:34 pm

just shows how silly it can get....

agreed

and it draws attention to regular words that people may not have found yet

7:35 pm

exactly....hate that....

7:35 pm

te6/21 FM's favorite. I remember you FM

7:35 pm

Fireworks - finally. Thanks to cluers, Lickety and Morewords (so happy that's working properly again!)

7:36 pm

is the sa 8 a compound word or just a weird word?

7:36 pm

congrats, liz...i am down to 3....

7:36 pm

That was my last word!

someone said that earlier but ta6/21, which I found at the time but then didn't find te6/21 until the list.

7:36 pm

It was a new word to me - that sa 8

7:36 pm

Same here, Carla

7:36 pm

sa8 a weird word new one for me

7:37 pm

too weird to clue?

7:37 pm

type of blood poisoning

7:38 pm

Haz1558 sa8 - three letters for plant juice, two letters to do over again and finish with Miss Farrow. - clued earlier by Haz

7:39 pm

ty, liz....found it.....only 1 left now....

7:39 pm

Time for me to go - too long in front of my computer for my liking! Have a good day / evening all and congrats in advance for finishing.
