Good morning, Lindy.
hi bea
oh, it's someone's favorite word today - the Z
howdy folks!
morning, all
welki! Carla!
I hadn't seen the Z yet.
welki! Bea!
hi carla, welki
lindy!
bea! hokie! lindy! *vicariously adds !!!!!!! to this post for all others*
The only reason I remember the z word is because of JMC
same, I just couldn't remember whose favorite word it was
Molly!
hi molly
Good morning everyone
I have a zoom meeting this morning for my Master Gardeners December meeting. I bought these goofy glittery glasses shaped like Christmas trees and an elf hat to wear to the meeting.
are you getting your cert.?
or did that already happen?
and sounds cute, you should screenshot yourself and put in profile pic
Well Bea, that beats showing up in your bra
I will receive my certificate today.
And yes, it does beat a bra.
nice! well done!
congrats, bea
well done, bea!
All hail Master Gardener! We bow before thee.
Thank you, all.
really struggling with the grid. my brain might be frozen
Still without a furnace?
yeah, some of it went fast, then other tiles I'm at a loss for words (literally)
yes. new one coming on the 10th!
Carla, do you have any snow?
oh my, that's a lot of days away
I now it snowed in Boone.
i have 25 left and, no matter how hard i stare at the grid, the letters aren't cooperating with me
lindy, was he able to get it limping along to last you until then?
Snow? In North Carolina?
Yes, it snow here.
Nope, it's dead. the furnace company has loaned us 3 space heaters.
no, sunny here. 37F. It was snowing at my aunt's house yesterday afternoon. (she's on the colder side of the mountain from my mom)
I think Boone was supposed to get 4-6" Molly.
we'll have to start a go fund me page for your december electric bill
wow, all those posts were not there and popped in
at least the natural gas bill will be smaller?
that happened to you yesterday, too, hokie - must be lag
I'll have to check in with my sister. She loves snow.
I don't know if Asheville was getting any. Boone is a lot higher.
I love snow too... as long as it's someplace else!
looking at the radar now, it's snowing just west of Asheville, so maybe they did get/are getting some.
well, when I zoom in a little, it's not that close
north carolina? my mil lives in brevard
and my town is due north of asheville and looks like they have a tiny blurb of snow right now
*my hometown, not current
lindy, mr. homie & I currently have Brevard area as where we're moving next year.
Brevard is a cool place to live.
maybe there, maybe Hendersonville, maybe somewhere in between
it's a nice area
yep
ok, got halfway on all tiles except the O, lower N, and Y. still 32 left.
ooh, got the y
and found a big o to get halfway there
top row gray!
I have top two rows and bottom row grey. But I have no Hs, Ps, or Rs.
one of my favorite singers, laura, is in the grid
I have barely half on the left R and the P and need 6 H
not Brannigan. trying to think of other Lauras.
you might be too young to know her
but if you're saying brannigan, maybe not :D
I'm off to take a shower and dress for my meeting...34 left.
does she sing by herself or in a group?
bye bea!
by herself, although i did see her in carnegie hall, performing with miles davis
she wrote a couple of famous songs, but my favorite was 'he's a runner'
hmm, I don't know!!
She wrote Wedding Bell Blues. I loved that song when I was a kid.
ok, looked her up, definitely never heard of her
but that helped me get those 2 n's, thx
sorry, was listening to a (really) old video of her
are you talking about the late great Laura Nyro? Also wrote Eli's Coming, Sweet Blindness, many other great standards covered by others. Died young of cancer.
if a dog arfs, why can't they be an arfer??!
or one dog is arfier than others?
*ding* Kaplan wins a boxed set of Blood Sweat & Tears Greatest Hits
a clue for the ro6 please?
Ding! Could I also get a set of Laura Nyro? She is on my music stream but albums were nice.
well, kinda like the 60s girl group that sang Be My Baby but change end
and add another cons in the middle
hard to clue without giving it away - sounds like it could be a backup singer for a doowop group
kap, i'll bring the boxed set of nyro and a case of wine. we'll need that much to get through it all
thank you
OK I'm in
i can see us sitting there, tears rolling down our faces, blubbering like we did when we first heard *!!!* janis ian :)
"I can't see you any more baby"
did you grow up in nyc?
Flushing, Queens. If you lived in Long Island, we were "the vcity" but if you lived in Manhattan, all the outer boroughs didn't count
My dad worked in the West Village for 30 years
lived in brooklyn until i was about 8 and then moved to jamaica
which was Queens, for general info.
oh, jamaica NY. I was thinking the country. ;)
ayrie, mon
Heavily redlined area. The Trumps lived in Jamaica Estates. The people of color lived farther down the bus route
that's where i lived, in rochdale
is it time for me to bring out the Run-DMC again? It's Christmas-time in Hollis, Queens. Mom's cooking chicken and collard greens.
i've never stepped inside the gates (if there are any) of jamaica estates - my stop was parsons blvd
My social studies teacher lived in Rochdale.
Grew up in Rockaway
I met a lot of people from Jamaica Estates later on. Culture clash. People considered themselves as living a regular mid class life if they only had one maid.
My mom was born in College Point.
bichon!
All open land 100 years ago.
oh, forgot to give Kap the Norm! treatment. Kaplan!
yep - and rochdale was built on the old jamaica race track
I did that? OOps
On my way to Queens College, I passed all those places
you did what? you came in and I forgot to greet you.
I lived across Kissena from Queens College. For years I thought the card game Casino was called Kissena
I graduated from the New School
Queens College had excellent professors but I would have had to live at home. So I went away for a while but came back.
I've been living where I am for over half my life, but you can take the girl out of Flushing...
did your father teach at the new school? you mentioned he worked in the village
My father wouldn't let me go away to college. (((((
But you can't take the Flushing out of the girl
He went to Brooklyn College
No, His hole in the wall store was a distributor of college jewelry.
there are a few queens college alumni here - ruby was one, harry another
My mom went to Brooklyn College. My dad went to NYU but didn't finish a higher degree because finances. He always felt bad.
Proud to be Ruby's class mate. Didn't know about Harry
You probably parked in front of my house
What years approximately?
there is a Queens here in Charlotte, but I think it's Queens Univ. one of the youngest's good friends is going there next year and I had to ask his mom, is that here or in NY? ;)
Because we had an open space because we didn't have a car
I parked a lot of places. My father wanted me to take public transportation (((((((
my sister graduated from queens college - i took a different route
There's a Flushing in the midwest somewhere, but there is only one Flushing New York. Went to the World's Fair at least 15 times the first year. It was a great thing to have just a subway stop away and then- magic
I took a different path too. "I took the one less travelled by/and that has made all the difference."
Great memories Kaplan
Q17 busline
yes, and shea stadium (and for the teen years, schafer concerts in central park)
Or the 25/35
I remember when they built Shea, and so sorry they took it down
holy moly, i didn't realize it was gone - even though i know they play at city stadium - thought it was just a new name

LOL, what is going on Kaplan?
-iu.
*makes the sign of the teaspoon*
Wow, Kaplan flushed the chat
I was just carrying my computer to my home office space and whoops
flushed her flushing talk
lol - that there was funny carla
I realized it was getting esoteric. I just staged a zoom reunion with some of my 6th grade classmates- from 1967, so it's on my mind
Flushing was a Dutch word Vlashing
exactly
Actually, it was Vlissingen
I'm so sorry! Yeah? You googling?
Yes
They should have left it vlissingen, but Flushing has more character
My JHS was on the Queens College Campus but it is gone now too
We're talking the mid 60s. When Boomers meant "the kids" and there were a lot of us!
After my time
LOL, that's where the term came from! a boom of babies
If you go there now you will get authentic Chines and Korean food. Not the American version.
When I was there, most of the women were there to study teaching
Baby Boom. Post war, peaking in the mid 50s and tailing off in the early 60s. WE'RE the kids.
my parents were before baby boomers and my oldest brother was just after, so I told my son, stop calling people boomers, you don't even know any.
Yeah, my friends who went to Queens College are teachers, apparently. But there was a good art department. Our houses were a post-war development. Everyon's house was at least semi attached, and they all looked the same. You could get halfway down the block and not realize you were on the wrong one.
ooh, bottom row gray!
They blame us for messing up the world, and we blamed our parents but the truth is that the world was pretty messed up for a long time, because it is populated by people.
My parents were pre-Depression babies, who grew up with the Depression and WWII--and then Life Magazine and a little attached house with a postage stamp back yard. And it was enough.
i was just trying to think of the art teachers i knew back then - was yours florence exler?
have made it to 9 left. 1x4, 5x5, 2x6, 1x7. PHARAOH PE break time
pr 5/16, pls
ends with a **la hoop bichon
thx, bichon. not sure how to clue it, hold on.
oh, there you go, good one lindrickway
thanks, all I could think of!
Thanks.

What? You all are not fluent in Indonesian boats?
especially, alt spellings of them
bea, how was your meeting?
It was good. Fun!

hi all. help with either i please
55 left but walked 30 minutes onthe treadmill
think clothes that are wrinkly
and places north are probably ic5 than here in the south
thank you got two from the lower i
tyty
oh, forgot - peri! also, have a tiara
:)
We better buy stock in tiaras if we give Peri one every time she is in the grid.
LOL, I was thinking it was quite common
maybe we should save it for periwinkle
that would be amazing if periwinkle was in the grid but not very likely
exactly, that'll save us some tiaras
Hey, if we can have quattrocentos we can have periwinkle
I had no idea when I chose my name
the house across the street frome me has been sold. it has been vacant over 5 years. current owners are empyting it out now. curious to see what will happen
guess I'm going to have to list unless someone can guess my last 5. I do know one of the H's is a weird he6 but can't find.
ar5/12, please?
ar5 - ar plus mixed up frozen water
ends in a "like" prefix
back again
re7?
think a store would do if something goes on sale
ty
Was trying to make it more compicated.
was about to type you'll kick yourself
hello haz!
Hello!
tough little one today. going to run errands soon and try for the rest later.
hi all. any clues for the A first column? ty
there is one at 10:28
It's a nice size, enough normal words to make you not despair.
ah4.6
bea, what is my missing O?
ty got it.
ty bea
Carla, you still looking for H's?
yes, I need 2 - one is an he6 that hurshy declared the weirdest word of the day at the flip
he6 ends with a mispelled 5th month
pr 5/16, pls
that was clued once before , bichon
when you say misspelled, do you mean an anagram or wrong letters. not getting it with the anagram.
pr5/16 - pr, a vowel and then two letters of to sing without opening your mouth.
change the last letter of the month to a vowel
he4.6 + two vowels at the end
ty Haz
pr5 - a stringed instrument spelt backwards (****) + not me (*)
You're welcome, bichon.
Good clue Cosmo
:0
thx, bea. had to take Winston out.
ok, 4 left. I HOPE I can find them. (I wish hurshy were here to see I not only made a word with my remaining letters but used it in a sentence
8 ha's and 9 he's
ok, thx
ol5.12
thought I tried that, thx
wow at my missing H, duh
ep5.16
I think if there is a list called "If You Think You Have Been Playing Babble Too Much" what Carla just said should go on it.
didn't we have an allowed acronym for that? TITT or SITT
that is the e, BTW. Bea's so good at this. looking...
got it! thx
now a p5 left, and I have quite a few weird ones, so this may be hard to guess.
do you have the flower?
yes
rhyming words with an extra vowel?
No sorry..an extra cons.
extra consonant
but ty for that - didn't have it
I have 2 rhyming words with different vowels.
pr5.14
I have the one that is part of the re7
I have 9 pr
There are 10
got it! thanks to Bea, and all cluers!!
The one you are missing is the pr5.14 which is the verse with an extra cons.
Good!
Now I can move on. See you tomorrow.
yeah, I get the clue now, thought you meant actual words that rhymed with each other
bye bea!
ty Bea

snowe in on that side. but she has two others that are ok.
there are 2 cars stuck on our street.. walter wants to help but doesn t dare because of his back. he needs to be able to take care of me.. but he figures coffee and cocoa may help.
are there other word games than this to amuse folks??
hi all, nbt
there are other version of boggle out there (asuming your questin was serious)
yes, how do i find them??
there's one called Bookworm, made by a company called Popcap
a lot of people here play Serpentine, I think....
tangleword / serpentine is another game i found interesting
penquis, we typed the same game at the same time
also, when you want fast action, surf over to wordsplay.net -- play in real time against other players -- 3-minute rounds, just like real boggle
serentine doesn't work very well for me, not sure why
yes, cosmo....and i almost suggested WordSplay, but Gwen beat me to it....
i usually play wordsplay.net while checking my email or doing other easy tasks
i play Spelling Bee at the NY Times, but that may be a subscription game....I subscribe to the crosswords there....
cool thing about wordsplay, you can chagen your screen name as often as you like, and you can join "teams" to gang up on other teams
change (not chagen)
38 to go, getting stuck, argh
thanks for the info.
see you there maybe -- although you might not recognize me
found a 7 (I'm gonna plotz)
have no 7 s and still need 6 6 s.. waaah

trying to get 2/3 before i open the list, still need 5 more words, argh
