So. Since early November, my son has been telling me that he & his partner & baby won’t be home for Christmas, as she works in retail & can’t get the time off. I was disappointed but accepted it. Turns out that was a ruse. Their plan was to come home, plonk Baby Paul on my doorstep, ring my doorbell, then hide & watch my reaction as I answered the door. Then Boris cancelled Christmas. 😩
I think Christmas is cancelled everywhere. You can't turn the TV on here for any newscast without seeing one or more of the health ministers begging people to stay home and not socialize with anyone other than those they live with.

oh, yesterday I decided to mail my mom's gift. boxed it up and went on ups website to see how much it would cost. wasn't worried about it getting there before Xmas. but the fastest (1 day) option was also the cheapest ($10.76). So weird.
we'll see if she gets it today! the other options were 2-4 days and $40-80.
We spent over $300 on shipping this year.
she spent $30 sending my boys gift cards next day through USPS
Still waiting on packages to be delivered that should have been there on Monday.
