hello everyone - a little better :-)
gnight
hiyas!
hi all
morning all
ugh. the orange menace is in the grid
I thought the same thing
hopefully some of the necessary senators will grow a pair and stand up and take him down
not gonna hold my breath on that one...
ir7
thank you jess
yw ru
Clues are up
an7 is the other 7
Thanks, Ru
ty jess
yw nan
And thanks Jess too - that took me much longer!
and ty ru
common words even, will wonders never cease!
:)
I was really hoping the ir7 would give me the I in the right column.
looking for that one too, gilllie
it 6/24
ty again ru
ty ru
nbt, nbs and off to bed :)
hoping for some good sized grids, goodness knows there won't be much to watch on TV this week other than never ending coverage and speculation on the impeachment trial
they won't impeach him.. the republicans are too frightened of him
I would have thought they would be more frightened of public outrage
Too much of their base still supports Trump, it seems.
i hope this comes back to bite them in the ass in their next elections
I am surprised one of his disillusioned q-idiots has not tried to off him.
oh god.. that would make him a martyr
he is already whining like one
well all done.. and off to bed night folks
night!
tato
I don't get wrapped up in politics, and I've never thought of politicians as very decent people anyway. Trump was an A-hole, but trying to impeach him after he is out of office just makes them look small and petty.
Pigeon, what they're worried about is Trump running again, and also that ex-Presidents are allowed to continue to get security briefings. Plus they get expensive security details. If he's found guilty he loses that and can't run again.
Trump must be impeached for a second time, never allowed to run for office in USA or any other country again. The man is almost insanee and most certainly unstable.
it is getting crowded in the PB lol
what's PB?
penalty box when you use a work in the grid in the chat. often stocked with snacks. The ex is in the puzzle
I've never gotten any snacks!
I made berry muffins tonight I will be happy to share
yum...what kind of berries?
mixed, blueberry and raspberry
I'll be right over!
If we're lucky, there are cocktails in the PB as well
Always cocktails for hip grandmas : D
I need so much help today, a small grid but a snarky one. I need the A in the second column, the I in the second column and all the O's!! I'm a hip grandma but I'm not getting it today.
Ah! Got one of the A's . I am on fi4.
I haven't found either of those As - can I have stats for the one you found?
I have an6/18
And an7/40
can any1 help me? My partner has been playing for years & has had to reboot her computer & can't get back on Babble. She's tried a "reset password" link (yesterday) but still hasn't had it
nm she's found her password!!
At the bottom of the page, in red, it says SEND THEM. If you hover over that, it gives you Dr. God's email in the left bottom corner of your screen. He can help with people unable to log in.
Thanks Molly, I found my password luckily, I was sitting here twiddling my thumbs when I thought I couldn't play.
tough one today
ooh found a 7!
but still missing the lone i
and halfway.
hagd all
yo6, please?
singular of a northern nyc suburb. ty for the lead
like one who pulls suddenly, but change the first vowel.
36 to go. bbl
Thanks
Tx for yo6!
it6, please?
Ends in pirate drink
Isn't the pirate drink 'ale'?
yo ho ho and a bottle of ***
No, think Captain Morgan
Good morning, Carla and Molly.
Or Bacardi
thx, molly, harry. this one is not as friendly as yesterday's, or I'm not as awake.
bea!
Hi Bea, sorry about your Chiefs
thanks got it
Yes, well, that's the way it goes.
anyone else singing steve miller band right now?
I feel bad for Mahomes. He had such a good year. He deserved a Superbowl win.
well, now it switched to bruce hornsby
I was def. for KC and mahomie
I'm so tired of Brady (and Gisele) I wish they would just go away
me too, and I dislike Gronk just as much or more
ugh, just found past pres
His impeachment starts today.
I will not be watching (if it is on)
He wont be there.
'morning
Good morning, welki.
Well you can bet that if it isn't, there will be copious news coverage.
yes
welki!
35 here. hello
io6, please?
ty for the i, molly
56 left after first pass, barely made halfway. geez
I think I would have been rooting for KC if not for that trouncing they gave the bills.
after that I wanted some revenge, so even if it's in the hands of brady and gronk
io6 - looks like an element but isn't
Mahomes will be back. Mahomes is a great kid and a better quarterback. But I was happy for Brady. Coming to a new team and taking them and winning the Super Bowl the first year is pretty incredible.
ah got the io. ty
Just give Harry a chemistry clue and he breaks loose
Thanks got the io6
meanwhile I'm trying everything I can that looks like iodine or iodide and getting nothing
small particle, carla.
thanks, bea
well the other real element made me very happy
can't say it made me happy, but i was pleased i found it on my own :D
what's the stat for that, harry?
ir7
(runs through the Tom Lehrer lyrics...)
come on get happy welki
well hell's bells! tom lehrer! okay, i'm happy :)
what's the symbol for that one?
(I've knocked the steve miller midnight smoker out iwth partridge family and tom lehrer)
did you miss the bruce hornsby song?
carla, the symbol is the first two letters :)
/me gets carla a double espresso
thanks, got it!
that's just the way it is? some things iwll never change? get a job?
<-- can't find mandolin rain in the grid
I did not sleep well for sure.
bea said that's just the way it goes earlier
The Partridge Family? Seriously?
some things will never change
a whole lot of lovin' molly!
I love the Partridge Family.
I did start singing Partridge Family when he told welki to get happy
susan dey! danny bonaduce!
what's not to love?
Okay, I will confess, I had a Partridge Family lunch box when I was a kid
why are you leaving out david cassidy?
I'm partial to Shawn
dadoorunrunrun
my neighbor had a shawn cassidy lunchbox. and a sweathogs one too.
I did like him on the Hardy Boys
oh yeah! I forgot about that!
I forgot the one who played Frank
I can see his face...
parker stephenson or something. he was on early Baywatcho!
Baywatch!
Yeah, well just remember that Son of Sam was a Partridge Family fan. That sort of curbed my enthusiasm.
good carla!
what a memory
my head is full of useless TV trivia
Parker Stevenson. He was married to Kirstie Alley.
molly I did not know that. kind of puts a damper on my school bus "nervous mother driving" memories
Apparently, Carla spent most of her childhood in front of the TV
you're right, bea. forgot they were married.
I thought I mentioned before how I was a latchkey kid and watched a LOT of tv.
Who didn't spend their childhood in front of tv. I did, when ours worked.
I watched a TON of tv as a kid
my brothers are 9 and 4 years older than me, so early on I watched what they watched, and when it was just me, I watched what I wanted. but we watched Brady Bunch every single day after school if you ever want to know anything from that.
and it was so awful - I watch those shows now and cringe
my saturday nights were love boat and fantasy island. I had a very active social life.
we were latchkey kids, too - homework and then tv
Gilligan's Island
Topping the awful list..."My Mother The Car"
ouch. or the flying nun
I also watched FI and LB on Sat nights
I did too, CArla.
Gilligan's Island was just so frustrating because they had a legit chance of being saved every episode until Gilligan screwed it up.
also, all those guests on the island never told anyone they found an island of castaways?
earlier sat nights were either candid camera or emergency one, depending who you were. I was a CC kkid.
I have vague memories of candid camera
also I'm sure I watched Dallas (fri night?) with my mom because I remember the whole who shot JR thing.
I watched Soap until my parents found out I was watching it and put an end to that.
making no progress here. 32 to go. time for class - have fun everybody
still 51 here but not really trying
I found another chemestry related.
trying to entice harry to skip his class? lol
Oh, another bad show (and it's in the grid) The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. My Dad loved it because he had a crush on Hope Lange.
I've heard of that one but never saw it
That middle I is a tough one.
I got 7 of the 8 middle Is....stumped on the last one.
There is an ir7 there.
Yeah, I got the ir7...
And an ir5.18
Ahhh....got it...it was a 4/4
9 words left and one of 'em is the 13th 6!
an 7/40, pls
parts of the body, bichon
thinking...
hello all
The most odious word i have ever come across is in the grid today.
what are the stats god?
tr5
Heh. I found a pretty odious word but I don't want to go there!
thinking ankle, but there's no l
godthaab - I think you and I are on the same leve here. :)
bichon i cant think of it either
A class that teaches the parts of the body
study of the human body
and thanks, bea
odious doesn't begin to describe it
Think Grey's for the any7
The second word of the third-column A is...well...not fun at all in terms of finding it.
ty carla
dauber - yea.....
looking for the ir5 right now, is it a regular word?
that is a ph word
Heh...a friend told me she can't play euchre any more because of that odious word you mentioned. I suggested maybe use the term "supertrick" instead. She liked it. :)
it's a weird one with high point tile
t got it
the ir5 is NOT a "regular" word...especially if you have an abecedarian vocabulary.
well, since I don't even know what that means, I'm in trouble :D
I'm down to six now and still can't find that 13th 6! ughgh...see if I can find it before work starts. :)
I still have 4 sixes to find.
i dont know what that means either
I still have 6 6's
I would never let enjoying a card game end just because of one definition of a word
Dauber - I never even thought of that! There is a guy on TV who will not say it either - one of those late night talk show guys
ir vowel high point tile vowel
looked it up, mlfan, it basically means alphabetical order
ty got it
Most people just say ABC order
my favorite tr5 game is ro4
hokie which one?
I just told you, the one called ro4
ohh
i only have 1 ro 4
Is that played with a regular deck of cards, Carla?
I think it's a special deck, like UNO
We are looking for more card games to play here. We have played Phase 10, Uno and countless hands of Hearts.
uno one of my all time favorite card games
Do you like Pinochle? I got seriously into that for a while.
I should hook you up with my granddaughter
Yes, it is a special deck, Molly. Thanks.
We like Phase 10 better tha Uno.
how about Concentration
it is a special deck of cards
I've never played Pinochle
I don't want to play anything I have to bid.
i dont like this grid
I've read it came about due to people not wanting to play with regular cards due to religious reasons. there are different variations, like it's different in KY than it is in my area of SWVA/NETN.
and it is a bidding game, bea
Pinochle makes me think of my dad and granddad
Ahhh....down to the last word: an r6
to take something again?
ty hokie
so obviously today's grid theme is card games. ru5, ro4, tr5
Ahhhh....re6. Seacrest out!
And chemistry. Lots of those words
lol, well done and adios
true, but that happens a lot
And still have 14 minutes before I have to clock in. :)
I'm off for the day. Toodles.
bye bea!
hi carla
hi owl
hi welk
there you are :) how goes it?
meh
lots of little nuisance storms with many chances of snow/sleet, etc.
too cold to snow much here. -30C, wind chill -42C
you are sending some of that our way. isn't it bad emough you sent us those damned geese? :P
while they're a nuisance, i'm shocked and chagrined that you picked the canadian goose as the representative of things canadian sent to the states :D
:D
phantom: moniker
i have to stop watching daytime tv. marcus samuelsson is making coconut fired chicken. no wonder i eat all day.
i have to force myself to watch tv - i'm still not caught up on grey's, or this is us - the only two shows i choose to watch. other than that, i only see what the husband has on the tube
i could (happily) cancel cable and get rid of all the televisions
good morning everyone :)
that said, i need a good book to read - suggestions for historical fiction?
hello, nan
lol, if your house is anything like mine, welkie, that would be golf, golf and more golf with a daily trip to the market reports thrown in
Have you read 'All the light we cannot see' by Anthony Doerr?
mary renault awlays comes to mind. and there is someone who writes about the women in britain, like the tudors
still reading my hoover bio.
haz
Or the Trollope novels for parliamentary intrigue/clerical shenanigans.
have you seen king od staten island? i liked it
hi haz - it's on my library wait list :)
Red Jacket by Joseph Heywood
Hi all. Clue for ir7, please
Good morning/afternoon all! How are you, TO, apart from being too well fed?
bilt...chemical
Welki, I was bought it by my sister in law for Christmas. It's an absorbing read, takes concentration but definitely interesting.
still kicking
ir7 uses most of the i's
thanks for the book reommendations
As long as you're kicking, you're doing okay.
who here has a ring doorbell and do you like it?
I tend to read mostly non-fiction and then go on a fiction spree for a while.
ooh, that red jacket looks interesting. i really like series - jeffrey archer, for example. my fave author was michener
They're not historical fiction but I like the Alexander McCall Smith Scotland Street series.
yes, thanks for the recommendations!
ditto.
Or the series set in Botswana, no 1 ladies detective agency.
there is a series "everyone is reading" about alternate choices, paths. i forgot the name
i tried that, haz - didn't do much for me
I have a ring doorbell, have had it for at least 2 years now
love it
It's very slow moving, I grant you (the Botswana ones).
now i feel awful for reading so much less lately.
For historical fiction, ever considered the Mapp and Lucia series by E F Benson?
do you like it, krysten? i have heard good things but also privacy risks
I have read them over and over and still love them.
Yes, absolutely love it, we recently added some additional cameras around the outside of the house too.
\thanks, phaeton :)
Set in 1930s England with wonderful characters and mischief making.
i want to get some cameras as well.
If you want to reduce the risk, if you know how, you can create a separate network within your home to keep it separate from your other devices.
#2 on all the light we cannot see!
Series suggestion: Dr Siri series by Colin Cotterill if you like a little fantansy along with a lot of Laotian history.
thanks, haz - writing all these down!
fantasy
thanks, pcal
More historical fiction, not a series though, I enjoy Wilkie Collins.
it's amazing seeing crime footage recorded on people's rings on the news
Woman in white, The Moonstone etc.
ohhh, the dr siri books look great!
Haz I read all of the No 1 Ladies .... Slow but had to read them all!
But it's great for recording issues at the door. for example, we received a package from Amazon where the delivery person literally threw the package at the door.
They are. Also a lot of comedy and the characters are really likeable.
we sometimes have little issues with young kids, othing major. sinc ethe houses are so close and everyone is home, not much going on.
pcal, my husband read a couple and pronounced that nothing happens. He's right but it's part of the charm. The characters seem real.
We were also able to use the Ring app to talk to the people looking after our house while we were overseas. All without using cell data!
our library is curbisde pickup. i get a feed very week with new material but it's just not the same as browsing.
the coroner's lunch is now on hold
krysten that sounds great ty
Agreed. Must mention another series that is completely different, but if you like detective/police procedurals the J.D. Robb In Death series is great!
You're welcome TO
Yay Welki!
the beauty of e-readers -- you can borrow the books from your library on line.
More historical fiction springs to mind. The Cadfael series by Ellis Peters. Mind you, it's about a mediaeval monk detective so it's very historical but beautifully written.
all this copying and pasting!! you gals are great!
I'm mentally scanning my bookshelves!
Yep, that was one of my favorites. Also the candace robb owen archer series.
haz, we're downsizing - one of the most difficult things will be culling the books
The Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James Crime novels (18 Books) by Deborah Crombie
Understandable. I've started to buy e-reader replacements for some of mine.
and another county heard from - thanks, wendrie!
I never thought I would get on with reading on a device but it works fine and so handy for storage.
i enjoy the convenience of e-readers, but miss paper books. the feel, the smell of a new book - don't miss the expense, though
Anybody here use Book Bub? I get all my books for Kindle through them and pay nothing...although they have offerings which are not free: most for 99cents to $2.99.
what device, Haz?
*watches everyone scramble to book bub*
I have an awful habit of looking at the end of a book. Can't do it so well with the electronic sort.
One of the best things about e-readers for me, is not having to go out to exchange the books for new. And of course, our libraries have been closed since March.
It's an Android tablet, TO, and hooked up to Google Playstore and also Kindle.
love the poem in your icon Welki! (it's 50 degrees in my kitchen)
i need a tech refresh badly.
i have a kobo (that i hardly use because of the $$), and read my library books on an iPad
I love having everything under the one roof, so to speak.
May I have stats for the lone i in the last column, please?
thanks, saanich - it's ccccold here! and why so cold in your kitchen?? call that landlord!
welki - you can borrow books from the library on your kobo if you have a library card.
it 6/24
ty, Molly
thank you, nan, but my kobo is so old that it doesn't have a browser feature
I imagine you've got quite a list to work through now, welki!
i've been given many good leads on good reads - it makes this cold week a little warmer :)
Good.
download adobe digital editions (free) - and version 3 works best with the library systems. You download the books to Adobe Digital library on you computer, then transfer the books to your kobo
* I'm assuming your library uses overdrive
No yogurt?

When we're downsizing we're looking to see if you can get the book easily in the library or second hand. If so then I'm willing to let it go...
I'm back and realised I'd not hit enter on my last comment ;)
