he 8, what a clunky word
yes, I thought it was pretty stupid but I remembered us having it before
I tried it as I was thinking - not a chance in hell !
the words that are on the list and not on the list make you wonder if the list makers were on drugs or something 🤣
the other night I was so mad they wouldn't take petri
arcane biologica but no petri
is that not a proper noun?
I tried it a couple of times. Then I realized it was a proper noun.
well now I know
why isn't goeth a word? they have others like that
doeth you sayeth goeth should be in the dictionary? :D
aye
did anyone ever find the other 9?
Not I
Nor me

Thanks, Diz. Good to know what I'm looking for.

Thanks :)

you are all welcome, only just on got cos internet outage in my area, I was having withdrawals, what with being in lockdown and all...LOL
Wow! Lockdown with no internet would be hard. Glad you're back in communication.
stay strong, diz!
yep, that sounds awful
Liz, we have had very strong winds etc. Oh and our lockdown could be until mid Sept,
We had those strong winds over the weekend. We're avoiding lockdown by the skin of our teeth I reckon. A few more cases and I think we'll be joining you in lockdown.
I had my 2nd AZ vaccination today - very happy about that.
that's great!
We go in lockdown in various stages - have just been lifted from 4 to 3
Our 3rd wave is easing off a bit
We've only been in lockdown once - last year for a few weeks. Very lucky really but I'm sure our time will come.
well, I have gotten stuck at 19 left. wayyy past my bedtime so I better try to sleep again. TTFN!
Sleep well.
good night, hoke
oh, found 2 on my way out!
and 2 more!
the other 9 is fo9
oh wow... i get two grids a day...!!

HI LIZ!!
thanks, Nan
Hi Ro - hows day 1 going?
Flip is at 3 pm here so yes, 2 a day :)
really well... having the two rooms is proving its worth already.. i've just had an excercise bike delivered
Oh wow! That's awesome.
The rooms looked really good - I said to P that it gave you more space to exercise.
yeah...FB has been the greatest thing... I am a member of diff stranded/quarantine groups...and have been gleaning advise for months
that should be advice of course..lol
That must've been so useful. Did you get much sleep or did jet lag hit?
i took a little pill just before bed and got a 7 hour sleep... poor old Den didnt sleep a wink ....so we've both just woken up after a nanna nap////and I think Den might take the drug option tonight.
hire
oh sorry..
That would be a good idea. I really hope that some of the stress has now gone from you both. We shared that for you but can't imagine what it was really like for you.
its been awful... and I really resent the fact that all the joy and excitement that would have been there couldnt be there because of the uncertainty... but its done now... we're here...and once the feeling that we are just on holiday goes... we can deal with the reality...lol
You'll be on holiday until you're settled in your place, even if you are sorting stuff out, so at least you'll some some holiday, I hope. We were holding our breath until we saw those boarding passes.
Heathrow looked chaotic this weekend from photos I saw - school holidays etc.
oh so was and the relief was palpable.... I... Heathrow was definitely busier than I'd seen in all the news...as you say... school holidays....ppl are just desperate to getaway for a holiday... tho I have to say the weather had been brilliant for time we were in London...it was too hot...we were walking in the shade all the time and questioning our decision to move...!!
When it's rainy and snowy in the UK winter, you'll have no regrets :)
No more scraping frost off car windows.
oooh you know it...
i left both my scrapers with Jamie...
He'll need them!! Must've been hard for Den to leave him.
Yeah.... it was...naturally... but he knows J. is ok in terms of work..finances...and he has a gf at the moment... and when travel starts again... we will see him.
Sounds like he's doing OK - and as you say, when travel starts again ...
we're sitting here watching the news trying to get a handle on who all the pollies are
They're all as useless as each other but you're in good company in your hotel!
ooh I knoooowww.... lunch was really good.... maybe its a knock on..
Glad the food is good. Meant to ask - have you got an Aussie phone now or SIM?
Rolin, have you just returned to Oz and are in hotel quarantine?
our plan with the uk co allows us to make calls to aus numbers as if they were local to the uk...and this plan will continue for nearly 3 months while we're here... so no rush to get an aussie number to make calls... but i know its costly to call us from here... but then thats why we have whatsapp or FB calling...or skype for that matter... so we are going to take time to figure out the best deals
dofith.... yes and yes...*s*
Cool - I was going to offer to get you a pay as you go and send it to you.
Welcome home! Interested in all you've had to say. My son and his family (3 young kids) returned from South Africa this time last year - took months to get out and eventually got back via Doha and Amsterdam! They also had 2 rooms - set up a circuit and managed a few kms run every day! Hang in there - no choice!
Sorry, lost first half of message. It was for Rolin.
thx Liz... we have got a couple from the front desk... but when we saw the cost... we thought we needed more research..lol
Oh, there is first half after all.
dofith... i might have seen them on a FB group...lol...how have they settled in since?
OK - I'm outta here now - need a coffee. All best to both of you. Catch you soon.
ok... catch ya later...
They're doing ok now, but are very homesick for SA. They loved it there (about 11 years in Cape Town) - loved the country and the people, made great friends, travelled everywhere etc.
yeah... i lived in the uk for 20 years.... i'm sure i will miss the proximity to everything...but Brexit and then covid put the kybosh on that.
Yes, the rough and the smooth. They are enjoying some aspects of Aussie life - family, of course, and opportunities for the kids, less worry re security etc. They still have their house in CapeTown, and hope to return there one day. Hopefully, you'll find some good reasons to be back here, but it will seem dull for a while. Good luck!
Are you in Qld near Liz?

Texas Summer has set in - the low temp this AM is 83
We had a cat by that name in our colony. She was a spayed 8yo which is a pretty ripe age for a feral. She never left our yard. Friday morning, we found her dead after having been attacked by a pack of wild dogs that roam our city.
so sorry to hear that Bea.
hi all
Oh, Bea, I'm so sorry! :-(
thank you, une and peri.
ha
ignore that please
I'm sorry Bea :(
Oh, no, Bea. How sad.
sorry to hear that bzzn
Thank you all.
We buried a bird and a mouse on Friday. MY little nephews were here so we had funerals with burials.
good morning all. sorry about your kitty, bea.
I'm a little freaked out by a pack of wild dogs roaming your neighborhood. are these like coyotes?
What was the cat's name, Bea?
stats for the top i? i need one to nbt
in5/6
No, they are dogs that have been allowed to go feral. They have attacked and killed many cats in the city. They have also attacked dogs on leash being walked by their owners.
yikes! that's insane!
Scrabs, her name was Dash. She was the runt of the litter and was just a "dash" of a thing.
((Dash))
It is Harry. The city can't seem to decide what to do to correct the situation.
So the city doesn't round up these wild dogs?
there is no good solution - but it can't remain as is
They try to trap them, but the dogs avoid the traps.
you can't leave kids in the backyard
And our animal control is very short staffed.
Kids are what I am worried about as well. We have a lot of children that play in the neighborhood.
phew found the 8. nbs, nbt, and 36 to go
Go Harry, go.
8 was a tricky thing
Clue?
he8. more full of irish greenery
I would not have tried that. TY.
I tried it on a whim :)
Dumb word. I would have clued it more like actor Ledger.
30 to go. bbl for more!
Bye HH
Enjoy the day.

g'morning, babblers :)
speaking of irish
:)
oh i'm only wannabe irish. i love Celtic cultures, but as far as i know my ancestry is sadly more anglo-saxon or norman
i am in legal reality a US citizen :(
i love british stuff too though
other than the imperialist mentality, which was sadly passed on to the US
there's a lot of that going around, alas
but Ireland must be so gorgeous! I've always wanted to visit
:(
if we had an M we could potentially have gingham!

The bottom I is a form of the anger word
oh man thanks, I was sure I'd tried that
when I got the t6 next to it
and toering is totally a word, did Enable just skip the 90s? lol
i think it's two words
no, of course, but it's funny to me how English arbitrarily makes compound words or not
like a necktie is not a neck tie and a earring is not an ear ring
yeah, i think maybe toering just looks ... like your mind automatically groups "er" together so then you thing to-ering and get confused
*think
as someone who had to learn it as a second language, english is just all messed up all around
oh wow, what is your first language?
Italian
cool!!
bongiorno :D
anche a te :)
The last 20 went fast. See you all next time.
should i be able to get the third row i word or is it weird

I was going to recommend that one
I still need 1 D for 1st col and 1st row
there's one da7 with comp. ending and one gerund
have those
also why can't the alt sp of the verb be made a gerund?
da 5 - move faster than the eye can see :)
da 4/6, da 5/14
aha, thx. not familiar with that one

nor me -- monkeys were working then
found a cigar!
sorry for the clue blurt
it would be better if you blurted something I didn't already have
like the f at the bottom -- and I have the rhyme
yeah, I wasn't really sorry because I was pretty sure everyone already had it
you need 1?
yess - missing one of them
fo4/9?
Fi 4/10 ?
yes have both
fe 4/8

ty - missing the party - will run the monkeys around the block once more
Hursh!you!get!lots!of!exclamation!poin\nts!
Too bad I can't spell points
if the party is the fe 4/8 though that comes from the other f
The party is 4/7
there are 2 party F words (sorta)
Really more of a holiday, it's French Nan
i thought you were referring to the party when you said you had the dance, i thought that was the word you meant
May I have stats for the lower right i (eye) please, in the corner?
ir5/14
ir5/14
ty - I swear I entered that!
Most asked for word of the day
SIET!!!!
phantom: together
the fe4 is very big on Midsomer Murders, I swear each village is always having one when someone is murdered.
It's amazing anyone is left alive in Midsommer
i can attest that hokie is correct on that
Midsommer, Cabot Cove, very dangerous places to live
I can't believe anyone is still living in either of those places
Father Brown attends a lot of them as well
Sunnydale. Seriously, why hasn't Sunnydale discovered cremation?!
it's funny because regarding Cabot Cove, they had the sense to set a lot of episodes elsewhere since, yeah, a small seaside town in maine isn't going to have so many murders, and yet, i tend not to like the ones set elsewhere, on the whole
true on both points
either way, though, you don't want to know Jessica Fletcher. you'll either be murdered or accused of murder
at least Midsomer appears to be a huge county(?) with a million tiny villages
yeah
not sure why they only have the 2 detectives and 2 ME though for all those murdered bodies
wouldn't want to live anywhere near Vera either
If you ever wanted someone dead, you'd hold a dinner party in Midsomer, inviting Jessica Fletcher, Dr Mark Sloan, Columbo, Quincy, Poirot and Miss Marple.
well i mean they are happening over a 20 year stretch here...
1 ME
see now Columbo, he was LAPD. that's not an unrealistic position in which to encounter a lot of murders.
Yep, I thought of that. But the episodes he goes on holiday (a cruise, London and Mexico, if I recall correctly) there were, of course, murders that just happened to need solving
just one more thing...
hallo! 22 to go here
hiya harry
harry! 11 here but not seeing any
i'm in between with 16
2-1-6-2 - that's why I'm not seeing them, they're mostly 6's

breaktime - my son just called me a nerd for taking notes in the zoom
that are in the lsit
I have S H T T - sounds about right
1-1-1-1
tell him it takes one to know one
carla!
Depends, what was the zoom about
his virtual orientation for college
TO!
Nerd
oooooooh i love the word that my missing R turned out to be!!!
lol
Or maybe he is the nerd for having his mother watch the zoom orientation with him
ri6?
yeah whose idea was it for you to participate hokie, yours or his?
yes it was an ri6
parents are required. we are now splitting up and students are going on a different zoom with small groups.
ah i see
that was my last one and I said I prob heard it too on midsomer murders
what college is thus encouraging the helicopters?
Agreed Hurshy, When are these people considered adults?
NCSU - to be fair, my parents went with me to in person orientation at VT back in the 90s before helicopter parents were a thing. parents go to college orientations, I don't know why this is new info.
ah, my college did not have that.
And parents are "required"? What if the student is putting themself through school?
but, the higher reasoning & decision making center of the brain doesn't really finish developing til 25, so...
There was no parent attendance required when I went to college.
25? Oh well then it's a good thing we let them drive at 16 and vote at 18 then.
this lady's accent is offensive to my ears
NC Steet
And if they have under developed reasoning and decision making, do they even belong in college?
maybe college helps develop it though
"orienteeetion" what does she have against a long a?
life is weird that way. i think back on books we read in high school and how unready we were to appreciate some of them, but, would we learn to appreciate them if we weren't introduced to them?
College is traditionally where young adults are treated as independent from their parents. They meet with advisors and set up their own schedule of classes. At some point, parental involvement needs to end.
and i do wish i had gone to college later, but, idk, maybe i just wish we could go more than once :)
yes, he's been doing all that on his own
and I've been making him do things like make dr appt, going by himself, etc., for a couple of years, and I think he's been doing his laundry since maybe 6th grade.
found my S!
would help if I could find that last 4
eureka!
now 1 5 and 1 6, an H and a T
where'd everybody go?
I'm arguing with a grammar queen at work that Wegmans (the grocery chain) has no apostrophe before or after the s. Its a name, just like Stevens.
And glad to hear that the male child has been told to do his own laundry. Some of them never get the hang of that.
so, will you blow her mind if you say the Wegmans family on a Christmas card would be the Wegmanses?
carla: everyone knows that would be the Wegmans'
:P
or perhaps the wegman's
my missing T words at the end were both stupid, to4 babblet that we have all the time and a missing plural.
for h... maybe hi6 or ho6, hokie?
and there's an odd tr5/14 right before the last one, if you didn't miss something stupid like i did
anyone done Spelling Bee today? i thought kickable would be a pangram but it wouldn't take it :(
I do not have an ho6, thanks
you do it in the garden
I GOT A PANGRAM YAY!!!!
duh

finally found my last Q.
leaving 75 to go.
to 6/27, pls
let's play a game of to6,27 with wicks and mallets.
a littlefrench hat
big storm now
ty TO
send rain pls
You play to6 with bongs and pipes
still zooming here
Good God, how long can it take to orient parents who are not even going to the school?
IKR
no orientation for parents that i recall.
this is with the college of engineering, and it's a Q&A. it's less boring than the earlier stuff. the students are in a different zoom.
but PLENTY for students, three days worth before the semester began
I know TO, we were talking about that earlier. Isn't college the time for kids to be orienting their lives without parents?
well my parents sure thought so.
but they were the sink or swim type
when I went it was 2 days and the students stayed overnight in dorms. don't remember parents doing a lot with us but they were there doing their own things I guess.
Sooner or later, the apron strings need to be untied
and my mother never went anywhere. I don't even think she went to high school graduation. definitely not college.
my husband went with the oldest 2 years ago
I didn't because you had to pay and it was buffets and stuff which I can't eat.
holy crap we are getting pounded by lightning right now
Did y'all know Carla is gluten free? NO REALLY, she is.
true
it's very limiting
Speaking of which, I'm surprised that rehey'all has not made the rehi list.
kinda like rehowdy
but I'll try to work it in soon
No, howdy has been WAY overused by another player, who isn't even southern.
And there it is. All I have to do is think hey'all and I get Redneck Woman playing in my head.
you did not go to your child
s graduation?
no, his orientation
it's weird to me that y'all didn't have orientations with parents
like I said earlier, I had one in 1991, so not a new thingie
ours was three days in dorms
My older two went to college in the 70's and 80's and orientation was just for students. It seems kind of over attached to have parents involved in school at that age.
fo 6/27, pls
I'm still stuck on a game with bongs and pipes. Really? You know what I get if I goggle those words. :)
it's a type of hat that sound like a game played with mallets and wickets
thanks, KT
Bongs and pipes was a joke based on the word toke.Jeez this is a hard crowd.
Well, now I really feel dumb. I usually get jokes. Don't get many words on this puzzle, but usually jokes.
the fo i have rhymes with list if you replace the f with an r
and you get build off that fo6 to get the 9
sorry, don't understand
like my dog is adopted, but before I adopted her, I ............ her for 2 months
you can also fo6 a child
ty sophie, Shirl
Oooh I got all the Qs.
The final qu6 is weird.
It is thundering so bad here! Crazy horrible T-storms!
We're getting some desperately needed rain!!
I know we have had that weird Q word before. Otherwise I wouldn't have known it's a word. : D
Hi. Can anyone tell me if the ER6,24 is a normal word?
It's not a word I have ever used.
Resalutations all
I think I'm going to need a clue for that ER6 if you've got one, origami.
It's hard to clue without giving it away. Think of er + 2 little words.
Ends with the name of the Beatle's drummer
That's what I was trying to avoid :D
Sorry!
hunker down French
Helloooooooooooooooo
We are having huge T-storms here in coastal Virginia

Spotty rain, but no thunder my part of Northern VA.

howdy, joy. I'm doing laundry. Just back from folding and rotating.
probably should go up and get some water.
What's rotating laundry? I feel that I am missing a critical step.
multiple loads in, across and out
folding and rotating sounds kind of kinky to me
... just sayin' ...
Ah, thanks, dan.
Yeah Origami, I have never heard of rotating laundry either.
5 left!
you can do it!
is rotating laundry just moving from washer to dryer? I think I usually hear moving or switching.
that's where my mind went - rotating loads from place to place?
washer to dryer to counter to washer is one rotation.
