with all the bad news happening in the world just now, I thought we could all use a laugh or two. To that end I will try to post at least one chuckle inducing story per week in my profile -- please feel free to join in. First installment posted today :)
I love that one, nan! Thank you.
yw
ooh, looking forward to it, Nan :)
I hope others will take up the challenge and follow suit :)
95 down and stuck. Will finish tomorrow -- goodnight everyone :)
Sleep well, Nan :)
em
like the joke cybernan
shouldnt the plural of trauma be traumi??
I'm looking for the first re6/24 and the re6/21. Can anyone offer any guidance, please?
Any clues for the ch 8? I have a ch 7 that is an aniimal. But not seeing the 8
Think chemical that goes in swimming pools and mess with that a bit
Looks like bleach.....ends in ri4/4
Ty.
Do you happen to have those pesky re words?
Got it. Super clues. Ty.
Rats, looks like Bea had to check out early today
What's up?
ch7 is a mythological monster, not an animal
Well, we could say it's a mythical animal :)
Molly, do you happen to have that first re6.24 and the re6/21? I shall no doubt kick myself but I just can't seem to monkey or find them
it's also a person with 2 DNAs, like a transplant recipient
and thanks
*not a scientist
I am masquerading as Carla today
I just realised, i've not seen Bichon asking for clues for ages - is she ok?
oh, fun 😜
Matty, try make sound again, again, again
I usually see her more later in the day when you're gone, matty. but haven't seen her in a day or two
of course, thanks for that
Bichon travels a lot
I don't usually chat but I have always thought it is wonderful that so many babblers are close and have good relationships
phantom humid. sounds right I'd see that when it's not there.
hi dromano!
The first thing I saw when I looked out the window this morning was the humidity haze. Yuck!
Molly, thank you thank you thank you ;)
yeah, it's wet here, may have rained overnight
Hi Hokie!
you all have a great day
Dank, humid, soggy, gross. My weather report.
you too. thanks for stopping in. ðŸ˜
re6/21 ends like the Bill Withers song ____ Me Up
It is the opposite of some of our players.
well, that must be an obscure bill withers song because I can't even find it with google
Are you kidding? If you do a Google search on "Bill Withers me up" it comes right up
and now I'm singing ain't no sunshine
ah, thanks
The correct title is ____ Me. The lyric is ____ Me Up. One of his best.
I always have trouble with the re5's that are redoing a 3
And if you google the def, you will find the answer to my clue.
40 left. I need to wake up more.
My boyfriend comes home today.
nice
Yay for the returning boyfriend
And my friends got to take their baby home after 108 days in NICU.
Aaah - I have that re6/21...it's the first one I'm missing...
There is only on 6/21
Thank you Bea, I thought I was going blind
The 6/27 ends in the kind of puddles kids play in and make pies out of
Plus a vowel
Oh, you're right. But the Bill withers song seems to fit with the second re6/24?
The Bill Withers song is the re6/21
Yep, I have that. It's the 6/21 I'm missing. It would be my final R...
r + ___ tu Brute + first word of the Bill Withers song
lol, I was so confused.
it is a different word!
OK, now I have it - thanks!
You are not the only one, Carla.
I know, I need a drink and it's only 9 AM
Ack, my boss's last name is in the grid. I should say the family name since three of them work here.
but I'm still missing one R 🤣
Is is the one with what you do to drywall (not tape) in the middle?
Sounds like the vacation island in the Caribean.
I have to make jello today for my "meals" tomorrow. Yippee!
the island one was the last one molly clued I think
maybe not the last one
Ues.
but the kids and puddles one
yes
not sure about a drywall one
Same as the kids and puddles one. You do that to drywall too
Bea, is tomorrow THE TEST?
That's what my boyfriend was doing while away in KS. Mudding the drywall in the kids' basemant.
oh, it was a pl of that
Tomorrow is the prep for THE TEST.
My sympathies
yep
Actually, I've been prepping all week. Not eating this or that, taking Ducolax..
sounds like a gas
I am masquerading as ru today
Yep.
Lots of Prep H thrown in..
I think I need to call too much information on this.
LOL! Yep.
LOL, I almost said TMI!
Or as Carla would day, TMI
Snap.
I will return the favor by not asking how your ass is later in the week
ok, I can only find 2 of the upper i
The ones you have are 4's right?
yes, 2 i4
two 5's and a 7
geez
5's have a different 2nd
I did wonder if poison ivy might give kids the itchies, but no
I have to try tech everytime.
yes, but today you can extend it
Ohh.
I will sit in the PB for that one. I hope there are lots of things to eat in there.
I remembered there was some acceptable form on the list and guessed right
Carla can join you there for that poison ivy word
true. and I didn't care when I typed it. I think drawing attention to a 4 letter word is worse than typing it out.
Well you could just...I don't know...not say it at all
meh, what fun is that
found a plant...
it's possible I did, who knows
I think complaining about tech not being a word is very legitimate :)
which plant, bea? the one that flowers in the fall?
this list is from different times, mael. like the 1600s or so
Esp when it is allowed in other forms.
se5
thx bea
yeah, pretty sure te6 wasn't a word in the 1600s either.
it's like enable stopped in the 70s
that's the one, bea! they are a very pretty genus
We have one in the garden that was planted near a mum. The two have spread together and bloom at much the same time.
stuck now with 22 left - 7-6-7-2. guess I can work on the 4s
Carla, did you get the I's?
i think that e4/7 word has been in the grid 3 days in a row
I got ic5 but not the other 5 or 7
Do you have the lone A?
yes, shirl I was going to say the same earlier. that 3 letter combo has been at least 3 days in a row
good morning! was just going to ask for the lone a :)
I do have lone A but missing 2 above it
ae6.18
ae6
the lone a is a normal ae word
got the lone a
oh wow. how could I miss that
ty
I have R ii EE TTT C TT AA L M U DDD SSS
do you have the greek word, hokie?
but I did find the 8 all by myself.
oh now my icon changes lol
Carla, the I 7 is similar to that A.
And the other I is an ic
ugh, thx
bzz is that Loor i?
not sure which greek word, mael? what are the stats?
I have ic, id, itx3
ar5
L or i sorry and they are 7s?
40 for later. taking the kids kayaking!
pouring rain here. have fun!
Is that from the TS, Carla?
I think so. mr. homie just said he thought it was.
hokie my husband said it was raining really hard this AMI didnt hear a thing from our bedroom
yesterday the power went out for a few hours and the storm had stopped. Day before storm was worse but power stayed on
It's massive!
Hope it doesn't cause problems for air travel.
Looks like you are just getting started, Carla.
i still need the lone a last column stats pls?
clued at 8:35
Yee gods, what is loor i?
And at 8:36 you said Got the lone A
ty molly i know it came from other one didnt realize that at first
I have no idea what that means
8 left, mostly 6s. Ugh
oh man, how had I missed co6?
A bad partner???
the sheldon cooper word?
if sheldon cooper says sex a lot then yes
Yes, Sheldon! :-)
He never says sex. Always co6
I've never watched BBT
but that does sound like something he would say
last word was an obvious au6, kicking myself. Have a good day everyone!
well done, mael
wow
good morning friends
what a word to start with, lolololol
i said wow because my computer hadn't updated the page and it looked like nobody had chatted for hours, it was showing me chat from the flip
so weird when that happens!
so, cancel wow
every now and then I get the massive scroll of chat when I refresh
yeah i've had that
wow on this end - clearly someone tried to charge my hubs for something he did not order or at least does not want to pay for. All hell breaking loose in his office!
well, I just found an obvious a5
hmmmm
oh i think I just found it too, thanks. I can't find the lone a, but I have sent in the goats
goats??
last A must be mael's obvious au6
and they did well!
yes, I replaced my monkeys with goats. See my profile pic for details
well, the goats might be able to ae6 a yard
yup. found it
goats are cute
kids are adorable. I love it when they skip and jump.
mine certainly are1 love those little cr7s
mine are adults now, but they do still skip and jump!
well, did not have that one, thanks
last C!
now still need IC5 to gray 2nd col
I have iC5/14, is the other the same points? just not getting anything to work. maybe I need Trif's goats.
watching cnn at the same time - wowza the situation in afghanistan is FRAUGHT
Yes, Caral
yeah :(
will send them right over, hokie
Name that proper noun...Marvel comics guy played by one of those cute Hemsworth boys in the movie
thor
Ding! Ding! Carla wins a date with the Hemsworth of her choice
woo hoo!
they are having culinary orgasms at the moment, having received all the cast off corn husks from dinner last night - its is like cotton candy to them
oh, the goats? not the hemsworths.
lololol definitely not the hemsworths, oh dear!
argh, just found bea's aquarium fish
hello. babbling while listening to kruangbin and waiting for wash to spin...
hey TO
carla!
good morning everyone :)
hey nan
khruangbin cannot spell today
hello TO! Feeling more rested?
my patience is wearing thin on this one. still have 6 4's I can't find. 2 words I know the stats I can't find. think I will break. BBL for last 16.
breathe, hokie
hi trif! yes, tryig to tackle the mess that used to be home before all that running around and late nights
I am glad you got some rest! Home is always there
i have 37 left and have only one 7
I just made it over halfway! slow babble for me today
urge to purge, and urge to move
funny you should say that! I have been on a purge bender for weeks now. Feels like actually losing weight....
before this year i lost weight every fest, but they upped our pay and i ate it all up
ok, still here of course. found 4 words. also can't stop singing Pass the Dutchie.
29 left and stuck
thank you for that gift, hokie.
I thought you were passing the dutchie in case someone hurled
TO, how many of the acts were local acts? How many needed travel and stay arrangements? Is that on you too?
did not count, but lots more local in day time. of course, local for us includes nyc
oh, that must help a lot to fill out a bill! do they have to apply, or do you select them?
Thanks for the chuckle of the day, Molly - good one. Let's hope others take up the challenge. It's always good to start the day with a laugh. :)
this festival was slated to be very small and gated until the governor lifted restricions. so it was expanded and executed in about two months
No problem Nan. I like your idea of putting a positive spin on things.
they apply and agents refer. an agent may manage a name act and booking his up and coming acts may be part of a deal
its such a mystery to me, how it all works.
and we commitee members also nominate and recommend
after 38 years they have it down pat, once the footpring is decied. it changed this year
oh that must have presented some new challenges!
weather was pretty cooperative, only a few storms
nice!
actually it removed a big one.intentionally. too risky
wow my c's ended on a bang
co6, ru?
i must admit, satellite radio has rather narrowed my exposure to new acts. I tend to listen to the same six or seven channels, which are quite niche. Haven't listened to regular commercial radio in ages.
cute ruru, nice one!
hi trif
do you listen to the indie or new music channels?
I usually listen to Lithium, Beatles, 90s, 00s, or PopRocks (gasp)
I like the 90s country (I think it's called Prime), LL Cool J's channel, and another around that one that I can't rem.
Ru is always up for a bang
3-3-5
i listen to the 70s, first wave, classic rewind, the edge, and broadway. sometimes 40s, for fun, and a couple of others
we were asked to list our favorite acts and i listed zydeco, idie folk, hip hop /edm and surf punk this year. until after i named them, i did not realize
hello MLFan, sorry I missed you there for a second!
oh and jimmie allen, new county
I like a bit of everything - I really have no one musical taste
you would love fest then.
if you are hardy emough to wander the hills
I'm having a Cars moment this week. They were so underrated in their time....I am a born and bred Boston gal, so there's THAT
I am indeed, TO
love that dirty water
boston is my home
----> not the words, of course, but a simple truth
i love boston.. what a great city
secondo is visiting this week, which would be a lot more fun if she would WAKE UP BEFORE NOON
lol
have never been, but I've heard the band 😜
it is a carnival ride, ruru, that is for sure. And Bostonians are a special breed, for sure
have been once, but did not see much
come on over, hokie, plenty of room!
i'll get you all a lobster roll and we can go for a boat ride
just some touristy things like cheers
i have never been to cheers. no one from here has
LOL, that's like mr. homie is from memphis and had never been to graceland. he always used to say "no one here has"
seriously, parents of adult children - what time can I go and wake her up before I am not being rude?
no doubt. bull and finch, i should say. now that the show is ancient history, wonder how it fares
lolol hokie
i loved graceland!
there is a bar called cheers here now, and it is packing them in
graceland was a good time. We accidentally went during the 40th anniversary of Elvis week (we factually did not even know that was a thing) so it was GREAT.
the producers have recreated paddy's of it's always sunny here.
oh how fun!
it was so interesting that he did not have a huge estate like meverland. homeboy at heart
secondo is moving to the fishtown area in October, and she is so excited
we stayed at the campground on our trip out west. it's great, you can walk to all the museums and stuff and catch the bus for across the street.
ooh trif, what fun! she's caught on quickly
i have to admit, TO, I burst out laughing at the videos of Elvis and Priscilla zooming around the yard on golf carts - it's not even that big a place!
no, you could se it as a real home
she needed out of the area she was in - about four blocks south of independence hall, or whatever it is called
oh yes. a bit of trouble there recently
we went to ortlieb's to hear a band and felt so old just walking the street there lol
never mind IN ortlieb's
some nice music venues there
the r's are killing me - must be a bunch of re's that I'm missing
holy cow, glad I went to the list for the last 11 or whatever I was on. had to look up 3 or 4. I don't think there were any obvious ones or any that I remember seeing before.
in other words I should just head for the list
yeah, I only got the re's because matty was seeking help earlier
there is a 6/7 set that looks like the island straight out from NC that starts with a B, drop the B and rearrange first 2 letters.
no idea what the island is, carla
bodie island?
It is a British territory
There is a kind of shorts from there
oh - ok
ah, have that one already
I always thought it was caribbean but then I found out where it was. really an island nation I should say because it's multiple islands
ty carla
13 left
ok - to the list for the last 10
I can't believe those shorts are back in now
make that 9
when you get older you will understand ;)
da 6/24 please?
I can't believe there are any fashion trends happening. arent we all just in our jammies?
nm - found it
but they are back in with younger people
I'm just too short, long skirts/dresses and shorts look terrible on me.
Younger people dig retro styles
I know, high waist jeans are back. I don't like low but mid is just right
I'd just like to have a waist again
baggy clothes we wore in the early 90s are back
Most women cannot pull off short shorts and mini-skirts. We are not all tiny and thin,
not thin any longer but my legs kind of are
stuck on that re 6/24 following being prepared -- any hints please?
To make a sound again, again, again
utilize again?
oh duh - ty molly
oh, did not understand the "being prepared"
think I'll go and have breakfast before the last 5
I did. I'm a Coast Guard brat. Semper Paratus
Re6/27 please?
That is the island clue Carla gave earlier
re + kind of puddles kids play in and make pies from + vowel
hello all....
Pen is here, everyone cheer
Molly's a poet...
I'll try not to blow it
oh dear
hi pen

You know network TV is getting bad when you see that Fox has a new show coming on in the Fall called Domino Masters. It's about...you guessed it....people playing competitive dominos. Heaven help us.
Yes, I pitched the Babble show to CW - but they said "No"
Well, at least you tried. Imagine the tension when they filmed the frenzy at the flip.
hello
OMG MOO
you are no longer a missing person
yeah, sorry about that
just have been prioritizing other things
well some of us were more worried than others (I'll let you guess 🤣), but understandable
yeah, thought I should drop in...not sure how much I'll be around in the short term
well, we sold our house so I'm packing up
glad you dropped in
I will tell Nan tomorrow, she's been asking about you too
Hi all. Where are you moving to, Carla?
you moving local, or further?
we don't really know yet, joy. we have an open rental house a couple of miles away that we will go to while we look for a place, maybe asheville area. might travel in our motorhome for a year or so.
currently in the basement packing up my barbie collection. mr. homie says we are NOT moving them, but I don't have time to put them on ebay right now so they're going to have to move somewhere.
traveling in the motor home sounds like fun.
and I thought I had mailed all the legos off to the lego give back program but just found a tub full of more. ugh.
yeah, will let you know if we ever make it back to SF
that would be great! We could go out for Chinese food!
last time we stayed at a "campground" in Pacifica. It was really a very cramped parking lot, but was convenient to SF.
How many HOs are there?
I've heard about that RV campground in Pacifica.
I always liked Brandy Ho's :)
Don Ho
Brandy Ho's is good. I haven't been there in years.
Don Ho?
I thought moo was naming Hos since you asked how many there were
1 HO
neither Brandy nor Don
Bilbo Baggins maybe
I don't go to Chinatown that often, and when I do there are so many restaurants. I've always wished I worked near there so I could eat out at a different restaurant every day and blog about it. It would take years to eat at all of them.
LOL.
And then just a couple of blocks further are all those good Vietnamese places
been to SF twice, never made it to any of those
I got married once there
Just was in San Fran two weeks ago. Ocean Beach / Lands End is my happy place!
in the old Golden Gate park aquarium that is long gone
Speaking of Chinatown....advice for SF tourists: take Linda Lee's Chinatown tour. She is awesome!
joy (or moo or dauber), have you ever driven down to Hearst Castle?
Never heard of it.
San Simeon, really?
It was William Randolph Hearst's mansion
Yes, I've been there. It's pretty far from SF. I once got a personal guided tour when it was closed.
it's a great drive down there
the first time we went to SF I worked for Hearst
One of the few trips we made during the pandemic was to Big Sur, which is between SF and Hearst Castle. It's really beautiful there.
no, have not been
Never even got down to Big Sur, got about half way down
yeah, we drove through there on that trip. had res. on our trip that we stayed in Pacifica but ended up canceling for some reason. we'll have to make it back there.
My mother has a friend who fell into one of the swimming pools at Hearst Castle during a tour. 🤣🤣🤣
OMG, that's funny
Yeh, it was the typical "backing up to take a picture" thing.
I noticed last time I was there that the tours no longer let you get too close to the pool. Probably that woman's fault.
that drive took us forever because we stopped literally every mile on the PCH to take a pic
yeah, I think when I went you could stand right next to it
If I were new to the area I'd do a week long trip down the coast, stopping at Santa Cruz, in the Monterey area (I love Pacific Grove the best in that area), Big Sur, San Simeon, etc., ending up in L.A.
San Simeon is as far south as we made it
Yeah I got a bit north of Santa Barbara going up, and some ways south of Carmel going down...just never did the piece in between
supposedly there are zebras roaming around left from WRH's day - have you ever seen one?
I rem. we did a hike in Carmel and I was pretty sure I was going to get eaten by a mountain lion. I don't think out west living is for me.
I didn't see any zebras, but I've heard they're there.
Mountain lions are pretty small and they don't usually eat people.
I don't know if that's a legend or not (about the zebras)
joy, don't try to rationalize with me 🤣
Although they did kill a bicyclist once a few years ago.
We've had mountain lions a couple of miles from us at least here where I live now
my family thought I was crazy in Yellowstone and Canmore/Banff about the bears. that's a real thing!
eek, may the odds be ever in your favor, moo
The zebras are real, as are the mountain lions.
Had bears in the neighborhood too....I did come pretty close to a bear in Nova Scotia
I was in Yosemite once when bears came into our campground.
we had a bear not far from us last year, but at least here they are black bears (I know, they still kill people too)
oh yeah, I've seen plenty of Bears in Yosemite...but not in my campsite at least, and not more than a hundred yards close
we saw a little cub in a tree on a mt. bike ride many years ago. that's the fastest I've ever pedaled in my life.
LOL
we were at a campground between Yellowstone and Grand Teton and had just finished breakfast and were inside when a ranger came and yelled at us about the griddle we just made bacon on being out there.
but didn't see any bears at least
stats for the lone A?
ae6/18
ae6
well, gotta get ready for this call...good to seeya hoke
I was at a wilderness camp in Yosemite where they have a thingie that hangs really high where you're supposed to put your food at night. These two macho idiots refused to hang their food there. They came running into our campsite in their underwear in the middle of the night while two bears tore apart their campsite to get at their food.
bye moo!
Oh, right, that AE6,18 that I should have seen. Thanks.
oh my, joy
I didn't even try to "see" the AE earlier, I just thought, all the letters are there, surely it is too
LOL, I just found half of a Babybel wax in a box of toys
ew
kids
I also found a hoodie from the oldest's 8th grade trip to Washington DC
he is about to be 21
they do leave stuff lying around.
My daughter started high school yesterday, speaking of kids.
wow, big day. did you get a pic?
Oh, yes, a bunch. And I'm proud of myself that I didn't cry.
my youngest started college yesterday. I wonder if he and his roommate took first day of school pics for their moms. 🤣🤣🤣
yes, good job. but crying is okay too. ðŸ˜
Wow. I will be very sad in 4 years when my daughter goes off to college.
How are you coping?
we're definitely sad.
i thought the o flower was going to be a phantom but no!
ty Shirlock, I didn't notice that!
I know how you feel about sending them to college. Trust me, sending them overseas (Navy) was much worse. So thankful he's out, now.
rice
That must have been hard, Sophie. I'd worry all the time. Of course part of being a parents is worrying anyway, but still...
He couldn't tell us where he was.....mostly just emails back then..... but he could tell us where he'd been....mostly the Persian Gulf. He still won't talk to me much about that time. I think he may have shared more with his dad.
the oldest went 2 years ago here, so he was close to home, then he got sent home when the dorm shut down due to covid, so it was hard, but this may be harder. I can't imagine that, sophie.
That is difficult, Sophie. Sounds like it was a rough experience for him.
off topic - I heard there was a tornado one county north of me. hopefully MLFAN will check in soon. not sure exactly where she is but probably had bad weather too.
crazy weather is always ON topic.... I'm in Nashville...grew up in Kansas..... have seen my share of tornado damage
There is no such thing as "off-topic" here. Anything goes.
we have a lot of wind right now. not sure how long the TS or whatever it is now will stay.
I was on the phone with my oldest the other day when we were having a thunderstorm and that conversation had to move in the direction of climate change. Yes, he is one of THOSE people.
the people who are terrified about whether society will collapse before we can safely die of old age?
could i have a clue for ch8? i wanted it to be plural of the 7 but that doesn't connect
the people who are concerned about increasingly destructive weather patterns that occur as temperatures increase?
no, the CH8 has no relationship to the CH7. Think about stuff you put in the swimming pool.
ah, thanks
society has already collapsed thanks to social media
i mean... it's not GREAT but when i think of societal collapse i'm talking about widespread inability to get food and stuff
I got 100 words without listing. That's 80%, a record for me. I usually list after getting around 70%.
great job joy! congrats!
ty, hurshy. It's nice to know you that I'm improving. Or maybe this is just an easy grid. 😂
:)
i'm having a terrible time trying to find re6/27
re + puddles kids play in and make pies out of + vowel
thanks molly! i was dancing all around that
I didn't think this was an easy grid, joy. you are definitely improving!
She's got ants in her pants and she just wants to dance
These grids are never easy. People who say they are are word geniuses who read the dictionary.
now the word nerds are word geniuses? are you getting soft?
I have various terms for people who brainiac their way through these grids. I usually save word nerds for the Enable creators.
idk Molly, you always seem to be done with the grid rather than working on it
so i would have thought you were one of the word geniuses
yeah, she always has the big words when asked for clues too. I have thought that as well.
no need to read websters...avid readers would find the grids easier, after playing a while and recognizing those little quirky words
itchmutch
oops
RE 6 24 PLEASE AND THANK YOU
NM FOUND IT
ERT
TRET
Ha! I rarely finish grids anymore. Life has gotten way too busy for that.
You just think I'm not working on it because I don't post regular updates about how many words I have and what I still need.
Rehi all. I had to go work. My job interferes with my Babble playing.
clue for the CO6,24?
would love to see a Molly status update
did you watch Big Bang Theory, Joy? Sheldon's word for sex
