check call's une - unless this is a 2nd one?
Sorry!!
stll need 7x2 here
crashing - 42 for tomorrow. Goodnight everyone :)
the last 7 is ed7
Odd grid - maybe 10 of these words I might use in conversation
Well, I will dive in.
hi scrab! first pass done here. nbt and nbs, 48 to go.
My nephews are getting ready for school...photo day today.
no funny faces!
That's what I told them.
40 to go. bbl!
I love those "bad school photo" sites. Hilarious.
Good morning, friends.
Home again, home again, jiggety-jig
Yes, and I'm glad to be here.
'morning folks
Hey, welki.
restless night here - 8 year old grand-daughter fell from an apple tree yesterday afternoon. comminuted fracture of distal humerus - took the end of the bone right off.
Oh, no!
How do they treat that?
Is this the one that broke her leg on the trampoline?
they transferred her from rural hospital in vermont to albany, ER was jammed, so she spent the night in a waiting room - surgery was this morning, three pins
nope, that's her sister
(and amazing that you remembered!)
I'm sorry they had to wait that long. How long will she be out of commision?
actually, it wasn't a rural hospital, she lives in a big town
splint for 2 weeks, then a cast for two weeks - then pins get removed and another cast for two-three more weeks
bea, the worst of it was that, when they arrived, the ER was treating multiple youth stabbing victims and the screaming scared and upset her badly
I'm sure she was scared! I would have been as well.
(not to take downplay the other patients)
my daughter is waiting to see her in recovery - apparently she's freaked out that the pins stick out of the skin (and she's a nurse)
I'm sure your daughter is tired and distraught.
no doubt - i'm sure the words, 'she'll need to see a pediatric orthopedic specialist.' scared the crap out of her
Of6 please?
It's a compound word, Une.
Not on + what you do with scissors
Got it...
Thanks!
Random poll: Brian Laundrie. They will catch him or he's gone with the wind.
They will catch him eventiually. May be years though.
He has some psych/mental problems so he won't be long with out meds, if he stays on them.
hello

He's not in the Glades. He is probably on a boat in the Bahamas.
i think he's in the appalachian mountain area since he knows it so well
He had plenty of time to flee the country. If he didn't, he's an idiot. You can't hide out in the wilderness forever.
shame on his parents for aiding him
he doesn't seem to be that bright molly
I agree, ru. Funny that he had a lawyer as soon as he got back to FL.
While they were searching for Gabby, they found another body of a man that had been missing since the first part of Sept.
what a tremendous loss of life for two young people
there was also a married couple found murdered at a campground in Moab around the same time but they don't think it was Laundrie now
well, they never thought it was laundrie
they thought originally whoever killed petito might have killed these other 2 women
I'm of the opinion that he only killed Gabby. There are so many park preditors.
agreed. the 2 women said they were going to move campsites because there was a creeper next to them and they even told their friends if they disappeared they were murdered by that guy
i would have left.. I read about that story...
yeah, I don't know if it was an actual campground or campsites along a trail or what
unreal. It's been decades since I've taken extended road trips, but it never used to have this dangerous feeling
sure it did. so many murders in the 70s. it's actually known as the golden age for serial killers.
hello all
especially here in nor cal.. the zodiac etc
Hello, lindy.
I was on the road alot in the late 80s and the 90s. Admittedly, I was not (and still am not) female, but I never felt threatened. And encountered some women travelling alone.
I just think we hear more about it these days
never really thought much about how dangerous it was to take that magic bus trip cross-country in 1972
yeah
just how far and wide the news spread, something that might not even have made it past the local papers is all over the internet
I never heard of "park predators"
I think they were just starting to figure out serial killings in the 70's.
There are lots of them, HH.
so many hitchhikers in the 70s/80s
it's opportunistic killing, also why unfortunately a lot of homeless are victimized, as well as runaways
how do you know? do they have societies? has somebody done a census?
if no one is looking for you... well
and in the 70s they immediately classified kids as runaways, even when their parents were like, there's no way
that show about the behavioral analysis unit seems to imply that it's all over the place. but what do we really know about this?
There is a popular podcast about murders in national parks.
harry, google murders in state and national parks
again, there's murderers everywhere (by, you know, sensible definitions of everywhere) it's just that parks provide a good opportunity for killing and getting away with it
yes
isolated, a significant chunk of time before victim is reported missing, plausible reason for being alone in the wilderness if questioned or spotted...
no cell service in those places to call for help
that's what happens when they took all those phone booths out :D
there was a phone booth at our grand teton campground back in 2014. I made sure to show the boys and tell them what it was. don't rem. if it was operable or not.
my son went on his first solo hiking trip today up to NH. I'm more worried about him getting lost than foul play
Stuck at 14...
108 left here
stuck at 6 and i still have 2 fours to go
harry, how old is he? does he have maps and compass and/or GPS not phone related?
found my last 4...13 left.
I would be worried too but I am a worrier. I'm sure he'll be fine.
I mean, I go hiking alone all the time
He's 17. Just a five hour hike. He's in very good shape and I hope he'll be fine.
it's still incredibly statistically unlikely
I did this all the time when I was his age. But I did lots of much stupider things when I was his age. I am lucky to be alive.
you're much more likely to have a car accident on the way to the grocery store... but we're just confirming that yes, "park killings" are unfortunately a thing
My brain cannot wrap itself around "golden age for serial killers"
unfortunately I didn't come up with that
26 to go. later all!
bye harry
i hate it when the grid loses words you've entered previously
yes
It is kind of creepy how obsessed the people on Reddit and Twitter are about this case.
if ad 8/60 is a word why can't de 8 be a word?
I asked myself the same thing, luv
ad8 is a muscle instead of one who does?
molly, "they" get like that with a lot of cases and it is creepy.
Any clues for top row e words? Ty
Oops sorry just found one. Ty anyway
ed 5/16 & ed 7/40
Ty found the 7
Got the 5 too ty.
Only missing bottom row e word for E in third column of bottom row. Clues welcome. Ty.
eu 4/5

Ooops so sorryt
Carla are "they" the pajama people who stay home all the time and never see the light of day?
"they" are a representative of society
the fascination with murders when the victim is female, pretty, and white is... not exactly a new thing
sure, some of them fancy themselves internet detectives, but most of them are just rubbernecking
I have a friend who uses the term "news junkies"
You would be surprised at the people who follow true crime stories.
I think this is different than a news junkie.
far be it from me to say I never enjoyed Law and Order or the like, it's the mystery of it. But as to why some particular murders get picked up by the news while others don't, well...
I'm, personally, far more fascinated by that lawyer in the carolinas who seems to have a veritable cloud of suspicious deaths following him and his family around
It is all about marketabliity. What the news people think will attract viewers
Is that the one that hired a hitman to kill him?
yeah, molly, we're back to the "young, white, pretty" equation
yeah bea, that's the one
Alex Murdaugh? That is so going to be a movie
I saw it on the cover of People the other day.
It is not just that. The Petito case got a lot of news splash because those two had an audience on social media
I've read that he had a lot of enemies.
Well, you steal over a million dollars, you are going to make some enemies
I remember seeing the first article back when it was still "lawyer shot only months after family suspiciously murdered!" and uh huh, sure buddy. I remember telling my husband that I would bet a whole lot of money that a) he planned the "hit" and b) he had something to do with the murders in the first place
Didn't know he was a thief. I thought the same thing, mael.
I think, the MOST innocent explanation for all of this, is that he got himself into some huge trouble embezzling money from his lawfirm. the least innocent, well, is that he made some enemies protecting his family from crimes they committed
or he committed. or they committed together even
One more C and 2 H's
morning all....was up after the flip....16 left here...
almost half are Cs....
16 left for me too :-)
hi Une...
Hey :-)
ch 5/22, pls
ends with one of the two high point letters in the grid...
clue for either re6 please?
don't have those....will look....
re + a form of fuel....
thanks pen
i didn't think that was a word...

the other re 6 is sound returning to you like in a canyon....again....
My phantom re6 is put the stopper back in the wine
thanks again pen
ty for helping me finish my Rs... ;o)
yw...
ty pen
yw...
I don't clue when Pen is around. She is a very "aggressive" cluer : D
it's hard for me to believe that there are six more Cs that I have to find...
:oD
clueing is a nice distraction from way to avoid trying to find pesky words... ;o)
sorry about the awful english....i was trying to correct the sentence when WHOOSH it went through...
There is something weird about the chat box these days
it seems a bit touchier...
or should that be more touchy...
Maybe we should send it to The Sensitive Room
perhaps...
as long as it isn't touchy feely
that makes sense to me... ;o)
i am down to six and they are all Cs...
CE 6?
Careful Ru, you might incite a tirade
ends with a religious event like confirmation...
ce 6 not cewrong
that was for the ce 6...
See? She SWOOPS right in with the clues. Almost answering before you are done asking.
pen is really efficient
:oD
lol thx
That is why she is the saint and we are just the heathens and Phillistines
+ + + ....
exactly.. Saint Penquis
I heard she walks on water in the pool room
She gives them a run when she plays at the flip. I am always rooting for her to beat the Mensa group
they are amazing aren't they Freep, Rainqui, Jessmom, Grannyrose, Diz.. it's amazing
ty, molly....last night i was by myself because it was an hour after the flip....
yes, they are really good....
I liked the flip better when people were not blurting out stats for the first hour. It seems kind of like a show-off hour now.
well it is what it is....people who show up seem to like it....it's not my favorite part of the game....
it's like big game hunting for them.. .exciting
I heard that once some other game shut down and we got a lot of new imports from it, that is when the flip changed. Just because the new people didn't like the unwritten "no blurting in the first hour" rule.
stats on the solo E at the bottom pls
Hi all. I agree w/ Molly. They're kind of show offs. And the way they correct someone who calls a word that's already been called is just weird. Like they're keeping score.
eu 4/5...
one can always turn off the chat and just play normally if they don't like the flip....
hi joy...
I'm actually a bit tired of rules around here .. but that's me
It reminds me of what I used to hear when I had 4 and 5 year olds in my house. "I got it FIRST!"
i am stuck with four left...
hi penquis! Yes, I often do that when I first start, so that I'm not distracted by the relentless clueing.
Oh I always turn off the chat if I am up at the flip.
same here...
you are up at the flip Molly? Really?
i have the af 5 meaning before.. i need a clue for the other af5 pls?
do you ever sleep?
No Ru, I just hang upside down in my cave. Yes, there is an occasion or two on weekends when I am just getting home at the flip.
i often have trouble sleeping...
(mumbles party girl)
Well, it beats staying home and downing whiskey while I stalk young'uns on the computer. But then, what do I know...I have no life.
LOL (literally)
hey, what'd I miss?
not much...
confessionals hokie.. must be because of Saint Pen
hi all. would every one please send postive vibes/thoughts my way that I find another apartment before my building is sold. thanks
I have been Peri and will continue
will do, peri....sorry for your trouble....
thanks so much
yw...
will keep you posted
I have ad6 but not the ad8
we'll all be references for you Peri
vibes have commenced vibrating for you, peri. There's an apartment out there with your name on the door.
I know the feeling. In the past, I had two landlords tell me I had two months because they wanted to sell the property I was living in
thank you joy
ad 8 has one of the "one who" endings....
it is unnerving and unsettling
That is when I bought my condo. I was tired of the landlord thing.
ty for ad8
yw...
I've only had that happen once in Oregon
it has never happened to me before. two people have come to look at the property this week
owning property is a much better deal than renting, but both can be expensive. There is ALWAYS something wrong with my house that needs fixing.
Moving is one thing when you make the decision to do it. It's another when it is forced on you
I am hungry. bbl
Oh trust me Joy. I wish I could afford to rent again. I have a list of things that need to be fixed/replaced a mile long.
Is the CH8 a normal word?
There is no Ch8
There is no Ch8 s
I don't think there is a ch 8...
Right, Molly? Now that we've saved up enough to do all the house repairs and changes we want, it's like we have a new roommate, because the contractor is ALWAYS here.
did you hear that there is no ch 8?...lol
No wonder I can't find it!
See what I mean about the chat box?
I have an AD8. What's the other one?
hey, is there a CH8?
there is a ch 7...
TO
i have three left....all Cs....a five and two sixes... :o(
58 left here. haven't even finished a first pass
but we got some new shades installed
still need 15 c's
OK, just to recap: Both owning and renting property has its problems, the 8s are AD and TO, the 7s are CH, CR, ED, and HE, peri needs good apt. vibes, carla has new shades, molly is a bat or at least sleeps like one.
LOL, sounds accurate
good vibes to peri
Oh, how did I miss that Carla has new shades? That is earth-shattering news.
11:22, keep up
So, it the TO8 a normal word?
Calls guano control in Maryland ...
Ha! I thought she meant sunglasses.
no, joy....not a normal word for me anyway...
no idea about TO8 or HE7 joy
I think the to8 is French
he7 is to get money from an estate will
any NTPN yet?
not since i have been here...
yes.. Teamster boss
thanks, ru
famous missing person in the grid
yep, that one
Not unless you want to do Sonny's wife
ex-wife!
cher
The teamster boss is the missing person
yes, that's why I said "that one"
he's gotten to participate at a lot of Giants football games
that's the word on the street
if by participate you mean RIPing under the field
*picturing carla on the streets of new jersey*....
but can you really RIP with football games all the time
are there any CHR words?
my dad used to teach a labor history class and he told me every single class someone asked him what happened to Hoffa.
I don't have any
for him it really was the end zone
like he had some line on it that the feds didn't, joy?
Ahahaha...Carla on the Jersey streets..."Are youse LOLing at my HOET? TWSS yo"
I went to Jersey once, but it was to a wedding on the ritzy shore
oh, found the TO8. tried it as a 7 earlier.
I've only been to Hoboken and hopefully will never be back
The ritzy shore is a world apart from the guts and grime of Jersey
41 left now, 20 are 4's, so I got that going for me, which is nice
Seacaucus is a real adventure (not)
please share your insights on that TO8, carla.
like the brits call a flashlight but then make it french
Parts of NJ are nice.
like the ending of the candle in beauty and the beast
For some reason the beach in NJ is called "the shore."
It is called that a lot of places. In Maryland, they talk about going "down the shore" which comes out sounding like Downey Shore. I thought Downey Shore was a real place for a long time.
where's nan? maybe the canadians call a flashlight that too.
here it is referred to as the coast...
The Canadians copy all the stuff the French do : D
we call it the beach
I tried the british flashlight with a French ending a zillion times. Maybe I'm spelling it wrong.
are you sticking an i in?
Yup, that was the problem. Thanks, carla.
no prob. it does seem like it goes there.
But that would be a 9
yes
but maybe joy's like me. I don't actually count the letters when I'm trying to find big words.
deuct
Well I can see where that would be a problem
i am done....had to list for the last three....aggravating....
still an excellent job, pen
still have 36 here
Damn, why doesn't orienting work for or6?
ty, carla...
I did at some point notice I had too many letters, but I was monkeying around the wrong way.
i think the duke of york is way dukier than the duke of lancaster
great, now duke of york stuck in my head
I think the Dukes of Hazared are dukier than both of them
I tried dukier too
I tried wakier
and cukier and tukier
♪♫Just a good ole boy♫♪
Persian cucumbers are delicious. So much cukier than the larger ones.
I can't wait for the tukier sentence
still no HOET here
NHOET
HOET!
OK, I admit, I can't come up with a possible meaning for tukier.
I can't believe I missed the CH7 my first time through the grid.
don't forget the 6
ty carla. I'm not up on my Englandish.
is that outlandish english?
heading over to the spelling bee....bye all....
At least it's not UKish
bye pen

They had to detire my car on Saturday before they put the new ones on
i totally tried detire too
Any clues please for re6/21 and re6/24 ??
re6/21 dirty fuel again
After they detired my car, they stood around drinking coffee and chatting for 20 minutes. This is what I paid the $200 in labor for
reiki is too a word, enable
thanks for that adubin....kept lookin' at it, but didn't believe it could be a word!!
The other re6 is sound bouncing off a mountain again
thanks Molly!
I am stuck on 12 left. in case molly needed an update.
2-3-7
Me? Why everyone hangs on your every inch of progress.
good point
I had to go work for a while. Did I miss any brilliant commentary?
doubtful
You just go to work for "a while"? I want that job
No you don't, trust me.
hello everyone :)
Hey Nan :-)
all done. Anyone need clues?
yes, what are my last 12 words?
and hey nan
your last 12 are probably some of the 41 that I still need to find :)
phantom troika
almost auction
you did well to get to 12 carla -- going to list at 26
Heiku...haiku for guys
thanks nan, super stuck at 12. not sure these words actually exist.
nm, found the K - 11 left!
and the A - 10 left!
are you missing the cu 4/9?
nope. well, I have one at least.
C F TT O CCCC H
I'm sure you must have the cu 6
co 6 x2 as well
I do not
I do know it's not cukier
ah, I see it now
oh -- have you never made shorts by taking a pair of scissors to an old pair of jeans?
thanks
some of my missing ones were ones I know I entered last night
just now noticed your co6x2 post. so weird how posts show up later.
ru said today he had some missing he'd already entered too
there are a few questionable ones as well
a lot of new words -- monkeyable however
yeah, I have made up a few already
is your missing h the creatures great and small vet?
possible since I don't get the clue
tv show -- all creatures great and small -- name of the vet
james h
ok, no idea on that.
I'm a little embarrassed nan is giving me a tv clue I don't get
Not seen that TV series since I was a teenager!
I only know that character because my Dad loved the books.
google all creatures great and small
ok, just googled. I do have that.
they are running a remake of the tv series now
It is obviously not spelled the same
yeah, that's what came up when i googled
I was a lot older than that, zoom, but we don't get the british shows until they are at least 3 or more years old.
Carla probably thought it was a disturbance in the streets by females
ah, my last H was the much simpler 4 letter version of the HE7
guess I thought all day that I had entered it already
Or you did enter it and the grid ate it. It has been doing that a lot lately
yes, nan & ru mentioned that today
Name that Monkee in the grid!
I get that on every single grid. I end up entering a quarter of the words again. So annoying.
Tork
I thought the reason was me doing babble on the xbox one. It seems it is not just me then.
*!*~*!*
✅✅✅ for molly
How in the hell do you know about The Monkees. They were WAY before your time.
Congrats, Nan!
it usually happens on the bigger grids with me, zooz
well done, nan
suppose I should put some lunch together. Got the grocery shopping done this am so don't need to go out again till next Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
I probably saw every episode in reruns when I was a kid.
Have a lovely lunch, Nan!
I need to head out to the grocery store soon. working on my list now.
per wikipedia - the Monkees were aired on MTV in 1986, so that is where I watched it.
I don't know about you folk, but I am just so sick and tired of people who won't get vaccinated. Our provincial gov't has mandated that all senior home care workers and all nurses must get vaccinated or they will be put on leave without pay. Can't believe that some of the nurses are protesting this. What kind of nurse puts their personal likes and dislikes ahead of the welfare of their patients? They need to find a different profession! If I were ill enough to be hospitalized I certainly wouldn't want to be cared for by a "me first" nurse. (End of rant)
I did not mind some of their songs. Did not enjoy the comedy series they made though.
hagd everyone :)
agreed, nan. and healthcare workers have been required to get flu shots in the past, so why complain now?
zooz, I loved the tv show, but I was like 13 when I watched it.
It was comedy I did not quite understand. A bit like faulty towers. I could never understand why people found it so funny.
Fireworks. Toodle pip!
i haven't seen the monkees but i did like fawlty towers - esp the ep with the german guests - Don't Mention the War!
it's sort of bad of me, but i did love how mr fawlty battered the poor bellhop/waiter.
i've also loved "A Bit of Fry & Laurie" and recently discovered another comedy variety show they were both on, called Alfresco, which also had Emma Thompson! these are on Britbox
oh another good old one is 'Allo 'Allo, set in France in WWII - anyone seen that? so funny.
i like fry and laurie together too. i've watched QI with fry which wasn't too bad. fry is an interesting person.well, laurie too. it was you who put me onto house.
do you know the story about him auditioning for House?
no
he sent in a taped audition and the casting director or whoever, who had been frustrated with the other performances he'd seen, was like, "now there's a real American character actor!"
wow! that /is/ acting.
lol
Fry & Laurie's 'Jeeves & Wooster' was terrific.
yes, one of the few film versions of any book that FEELS very true to the books.
although the constant changing of actors for the lesser characters was a bit annoying
but that's my only complaint
love anything, almost, pg wodhouse, and did like fry and laurie a lot. wonder if i where could stream it again.
public tv maybe
that and i can't find a poster to buy of that painting of Hugh-as-Bertie that his friend Corky made
i have them on DVD mab, definitely a worthwhile purchase
good idea.
my only box set is the dick van dyke show, which says a lot about me... endlessly enchants me.
oh i have lots. house, gilmore girls, friends, monk, psych, star trek (original), doctor who (2005-present), who's the boss, newhart, family ties...
Stephen Fry was interviewed for a TV show here called The Meaning of Life. He caused ructions! He lambasted 'God'. It is well worth a google. A very articulate intelligent man.
have watched gilmore girls a zillion times, adore monk, and must get dr. who.
fry does seem to get into trouble.
hello, he7 clue please
he7 person who is left money in a will
Re6/24 please?
i have no re words! must find
aha got that one
the sound came back again... and again... and again... and again...
to here your call again in the mountains again
hear...
hear hear hear
Thanks!!
cute clues
what is the other 8 besides to8?
ad 8
thanks, got it!
i had tried co4 + fi4, since that made sense as a possible compound, but, oh well
also if you have netflix and you like comedy, Derry Girls is a ri4
i've never given derry girls a proper try.
it is SO delightful
will try it again. of course now that seinfeld is there, well, i can watch that who endlessly.
show. that show.
don't worry, i'm excellent at deciphering through typos
oh. ra4, my ex's nickname.
dear old ra4.
ri4, the guy in west side story.
hi all help with to8 please
nm
Ooo lah lah, Peri got the Frenchified word
Wasnt the west side story guy Rico? Not seeing that in grid
ri4 also used in guitar type words
you prob already have it
Oooh ok. I did already have it. Ty
there was a ri4 in the spacetime continuum, leading to a ti4 that turned into a ri4, but the ch5 played the opening ri4 of a river song and they all floated away in a ra4
Q, nicely done. But I'm still struggling with the 8s.
Taking a break. I like to watch British people killing other British people. Vera right now. But can give recommendations for others.
You can always count on Babble chat this time of night to bend your brain. Space time continuum?
our instacart shopper just delivered someone else’s groceries to our house, and I want to know who is partying in our ’hood. a gallon of breyer’s vanilla, a squeeze bottle of smucker’s caramel sauce, a tub of cool whip and TWELVE 2 liter bottles of Pepsi zero sugar. That’s the whole order
those are my Pop tarts, Dan
hahaha yep it's a lot of pepsi
Ive gotten weird un-ordered stuff on instacart as well
rehowdy. I'm back to not find my last 7 words.
we've gotten random individual items, but never a whole different person's order
I've never done instacart. the stores I order from all have their own shoppers.
I try to call them back, then just take it to food bank
actually instacart has a chat support that kicks in if you report a whole missing order and they called the shopper so we got our actual order eventually. had to pitch the dairy
mine was extra items added to the order
hello all. any clue for the re6 that doesn't involve putting the garden hose away?
I don't think either of them involve that, but maybe you need the one that is a sound in a canyon again
hello hello ?
that word is visually odd
I can't believe that that is an actual word (seems redundant?) and that at the same time the babble lords don't accept capping off the leftover wine.
IG, what do you think my missing lower F is?
agree, ellen on the wine one
thanks, HC. I keep seeing the phantom word and the word that isn't accepted. Sorry about that.
Hi, Carla - clue me in again?
