we had a long-standing argument - she would say it is a small town and I would remind her it is a state capital and she maybe has never seen a small town like in my part of VA.

It is. And the schools are all overcrowded. They build a new one and two months later, it has portable classrooms due to overcrowding.
that's the way it is here. and we are right at the edge of the county but this is also the most populated, so they build new schools and shift kids right next to the closest one to farther away ones to fit more kids in.
They just added on to our local high school. I swear that place is so big it's like a small city. I would never survive in a school that big.
yeah, I think my kids' graduating classes were about the size of my whole high school.
