So sorry to hear of Anne Rice's passing :-(
I was too, une - I met her once at a book signing. lovely person. She noted my red hair and asked me if I was psychic - she had a theory that all red heads are.
I am full on TIRED of death. too much too close lately.
Hi Trif
I met her at a local book signing years ago......she was so charming....
the last episode of New Amsterdam was depressingly titled "death is the rule, life is the exception"
hi bichon.
I hadn't heard about Anne Rice's passing. Just read the announcement her son wrote. Had no idea she was 80! God rest her soul.
hi all
Good morning!
name that state capital! morning ChampFit and all
boise
ding ding ding
Morning, Dan!
Trif wins a bag of Idaho potatoes!
DC's mayor is also in the grid
and my cousin, Nobster, is also in the grid....good morning all.....
Nobster, hahaha.
hi scrabs...
Une, how is Nashville doing after the storm? We lost power for just 2.5 hrs.
Bowser. It takes a local to get that one.
Damage was in the suburbs....no damage in my part of town and didn't lose power....just minutes before we were about to be hit, it swerved north....we were very lucky!
Glad to hear you didn't have damage, Une.
The damage is staggering. I looked at photos of Mayfield, KY.
Thanks, Molly
The damage in KY is just beyond belief.....
i must look up where my friends have moved, they are in the suburbs
does anyone hers subsribe to nyt spelling bee?
*raises hand*....
me!
easy board on spelling bee today
it's the crosswords i subscribe for, but i am now a bee addict as well....
I am thinking of doing that subscription and cancelling my newspaper which is so expensive.
is the bee a timed game? if so, how long?
well the crossword puzzle page by itself is a subscription....that's what I subscribe to, not the newspaper....
i imagine you would have access to the puzzle page with a newspaper subscription.....not sure about the puzzle archives...
omg, I was going to say how hard the bee is today
I just want the crossword puzzles, the big weekend one is the highlight of my week. Our newspaper carries it.
lol.....everyone is different....i started it and thought that it was not going to be easy....
yes, i enjoy that as well.
back when my work had NY subscription i did have puzzle access and i think that included archives
the puzzle page is something like $39.95 a year or at least it was when I signed up....
can anyone pls tell me how long you get to play the spelling bee?
it's up for a day
thank you. happy babbling.
it flips to a new one at midnight, not sure what time zone
go to the crosswords page and scroll down....
I signed up monthly to try it out and it's like $5/mo but I can't figure out how to switch to annual. I guess I should cancel and then sign up again.
but I keep forgetting until I get an email about the charge
probably eastern time because it's a NY publication
good point!
I believe spelling bee is new at 3am EST. I read an article about the crazy fans behind it and how one woman wakes up to play it.
Haha
you get the next day's crosswords at 10pm, but on Sat you get the Sun ones at like 6 or 7pm
ooh, finally saw the pangram
yes I remember that too (3am). Is it the crosswords that refresh at midnight? Or maybe earlier?
here is an article (but not the one I was talking about) referencing the 3am spelling bee...https://tinyurl.com/2p99cbst
i found out that if you close your laptop on the Bee without shutting it off, you can open it back up to the same bee and still work on it as long as you don't leave the page or refresh it....
Interesting trick.
i meant to say that you can open it up the next day...
yeah i have noticed that too
it saves your progress across devices...
yes, I have the app on my iphone and play on the go sometimes
but I could not find one in android for my kindle fire
I have found that sometimes crossword answers get lost
i am having the most trouble with B
16 of my 72 missing words are Bs....
still 228 left here. haven't made it to B
make that 14....you inspired me....
I will say the first word I saw when I logged on was a B6
i was up way too late at the flip.. ;o)
I'm trying to get in a better sleep routine, which doesn't involve the flip sadly.
it's what i have told myself to do... :oP
last night I tried the Calm app and listened to Matthew McConaghey(sp?) read me a bedtime story. it must've worked because I don't remember it ending.
nice... my doctor told me that the research showed it can be effective....
Can I choose a British man?
why not go scottish?
(I know scotland is part of UK)
Or Irish?
their accent is more subtle
ha - i would have thought you'd go for an Italian man, scrabs
True, welki!
enows
Free clue! YW.
me, i fall asleep well enough - it's staying asleep that's difficult
already had that one!
normally that's not a probably for me but I woke up at 5:30 this morning and only had catnaps until about 8.
5:30 is normal wake-up time for me
eek
that was our wake-up time before retirement, just can't break the habit
i am not a morning person, but the older I get, the less likely i can sleep very late in the morning....
Me too, penquis.
same
wow, really struggling with the 2nd row vowels
no better, no worse with those here....
def not getting HOET on first pass
41 Bs. I need to focus.
just checked....have reached that milestone....still 69 to find....
153 here!
Go penquis, go!
159
i have been dividing my attention....Bee....Village Soup (community online newspaper)... and Sunday Morning on CBS....
yeah, I like to go back and forth between this and bee to see if anything jumps out at me.
same here....but i think i will finish the day at Amazing and not Genius....don't like this bee....
kinda stuck at amazing right now
same here...
I knew you were both amazing.
Hah!
there is a bingo today but I only have words from 3
four here...
and I have looked for the others
hey!...got to Genius unexpectedly....still no bingo...
nice
and the synonym si7/32
thanks for that one
and extend to si8
of course. thanks again.
idk why you can be boisterous if boister isn't a word
I certainly tried boister
so I agree
I agree
i wondered about that, too.....at 2 in the morning... ;o)
TE 7/40 please
sorry, don't have it yet....will look....
I don't have that one.
132 left and I am done. I need to hike today after being trapped inside yesterday due to the storm.
obsters galore, but no m or l
have a good hike!
bye scrabs....
enjoy the hike, scrabs
te7/40 ends with a popular brand of pen
new one for me
hmm, get the clue so that leaves me only 2 other letters
not getting that clue
yeah, me too i think, but with the points, it was monkeyable
it starts like where there's a bridge to in a young adult novel...
ah, was definitely not going in the right direction
thank you hurshy....time out for me, church and lunch at the 7 yr olds choice today since she placed in her first gymnastics competition yesterday :) I have a feeling she'll choose Italian
and that is probably the saddest book I ever read.
still not getting it but will keep looking
got the te ty
ty, hursh....
no idea of the book tho
well I do not have HOET but I need to get busy. 91 left for later.
see you later, carla...
phantom: obstetric
good one...
mine is sincerest and erotic
i typed sincerest last night...
I am glad to see the to7 because it was my phantom yesterday
ty for that one...hadn't seen it....
one more O to grey the left, AND one more O to grey the right :D
i still have four Os to find....not really paying enough attention to the grid....
you inspired me, hursh...found my last O from first column...still two to find for the right column O....
i am actually trying to find some fours...
well i am heading out....need to get some lunch....bbl to find my last 51....bye all....
phantom: orient
(i fell asleep or i'd have asked what left O pen thought i was missing)
the chubby one
thank you ru!!!
why that should have eluded me i do not know
do you have any similarly bright ideas for the right O?
you missing one?
yes
or + to err in front of god backwards
nope, have that one
oe7 then
oh my, that'll be it
thanks
yw
i've missed so many plurals it's silly
TY HURSHY for the te 7. just returned from a break
3-0-3-3-3-2
i think we need to make more use of the "ee" ending in everyday speech. like the dictator against whom people protest could be a "ri4ee" and the person who is shackled is the "fe6ee" and so forth
Back for 97 words.
i am down to 12
to list or not to list, that is the question
What did you decide?
well i haven't listed yet, and i got one more B word
woot, and now i pair of long E words
*a pair
if two soldiers from opposing sides get together to worry about getting killed, could you say they freternised with the enemy?
I still do not have NTS...That lone T...
And just like that...I see it.
It was the Peri Phenomena.
rehi while I eat lunch
hello everyone :)
hey nan
was hoping that the 94 I left last night would magically appear this morning - but only 2 so far
I have only found 1 while eating lunch but it's possible I'm paying more attention to my food. 87 left.
some of the words are sandwiched inbetween others hokie
you're so cheesy
(making a lunch pun)
(yes, I got it)
it's not like it was a saladacious comment or anything
now you're just dressing them up
naw.. just tossing around a few puns
oh, there's the big boss in super mario bros. (I don't expect nan or ru to get this)
has molly done her own disappearing act?
she's a rabid Redskins fan.. so likely watching football
my team won't lose until later today :D
ah yes
my team is losing right now
I thought the panthers would do better this year than they have
my youngest son was saying at the beginning that we were going to the super bowl, so I think he would agree with you
they have a pretty solid team this year.
i'd better start straightening up the house.. good luck hokes
good morning everyone
thanks, got to get busy here too. 79 left for later. hi & bye, joy!
hi all having problems with B words
I found a BE 5/6/8/9 combo
bo 8/55 please?
French sculptured paneling.
sorry, my french doesn't extend to architectural terms
tried boisette, but it didn't like that
Very close different ending.
nm - found it
lol - just thought of the other ending when I finished typing ant 1:40
wow - just listed - some very iffy words here
That makes me feel better for getting so stuck
hi windingwake -- I don't think we have been here at the same time before, although I see that you have been playing the game for a while now
ei 7 please?
peace and reconciliation.
some legal term?
Greek word for peace.
no idea
the extent of my knowledge of Greece is what we learned in Grade 7 and from an 8 hour port of call in Athens about 4 years ago.
Bo8 starts with French word for wood (4 letters)
Ei + three letters for paying lodgings for a room say + first two letters of frozen water.
be6/33 pls
I think you are a few minutes behind us, une :)
stats for the lone T?
ty zoom
BE + to worry.
te 6/18, joy
tyty zooz
finally done with B words
oe 7 please?
Been in grids quite a few times over the years, Nan.
ty nan
I think it is a danish word.
only one I can think of is oestrin and that's not there
*my memory isn't what it used to be and getting worse all the time
Change the ending, Nan.
Got the first five right.
I don't see an oes anywhere
Ends in a three lettered mans name. Or beginning of a cuddly bear.
Yeah sorry my eyes are not what they used to be.
Change the s to another letter then lol
got it - ty zoom
Sorry my clues are complete rubbish.
sorry to be a pest, but I do like to finish without looking things up. The only reason I play this game is to try to keep my brain active -- don't want to wind up with dementia like my mother! I'm finding that keeping engaged is really difficult with being isolated by hubby's health and covid
Not a pest at all, Nan. It is good to try and keep the brain active â¤ï¸
I listen to musif a lot too, Nan, that helps lift the mood for all.
I also watch comedy clips on youtube to try and lift my spirits.
I am failing at that. I do try though haha!
yes -- I think depression is one of the worst side effects of this pandemic.
Agreed, Nan. I have had depression for well over 10 years now though so cannot blame it on the pandemic for me.
Saying that it is at the worst it has been so maybe the pandemic has not helped.
great ei clue zoom. can't imagine i'd ever monkey that. ty
Glad it helped, Mab!
I will go and leave you all in peace. Happy babbling everyone!
me too re depression, but longer. will defeat it eventually.
I fear it will defeat me, Mab. I can never seem to shake it off â¤ï¸ Bye for now.
and ty une, wherever you may be, on bo. kept trying variations on boisterous. art history b.a. and did not know bo. or at least forgot it.
bye zoom. no defeat. no, no.
bye zoom - thanks for the help :)
right. 108 words. this will be easy. oh look - obster! so good with butter.
and with lemon too --- what we are having for Christmas Eve dinner -- have three 1.5 pounders on order (enough for lobster rolls the next day)
sounds so nice, nan. no roast beef with yorkshire pud - heavy, heavy. love lobster rolls.
Turkey dinner is the norm here for Christmas dinner, but we can't travel, the older kids have their own famiies coming home for Christmas and the younger bunch can't get here because the floods destroyed all of our highways - it will be just the two of us this year.
That's sad. So many obstacles - is it raining frogs yet? Any scary men on horses around? Let's hope things can only get better from here.
2nd st 7-8 combo please?
i have an eight that means most cross...
yes - the combo I am looking for follows that
7/28 - 8/40
so far only see navigating and that 8.
giving up for now and moving on
it means snoring.
lexicographer is accepted!
starts as if mixing a cake.
ends with spanish bull less a vowel
just found it - ty mab
te 7/40 following the age group, please?
Nan, just got on,,,,, read earlier about the TE7/40
Clue for be8 and be9
Please?
be + irish dog(S)
Thanks!!
nows
oops
Nan, look at Hurshy clues
Anita, add a vowel to the beginning of the word you didn't mean to type for another word :)
hi again - took a lunch break. Does anyone have a time frame for hurshy's clues?
or know what they are?
what are u looking for nan ?
found it - ty
ok - good luck ans see you demain - poof
"and" even...
the te 7/40/ Hurshy's clue was that it ended in the brand of a popular pen
*!*~*!* Thanks for the help :)
On my way. Enjoy the rest of your day and stay safe. Terrible and devastating storms in the south -- I hope none of our babblers were involved. The damage is like nothing I've ever seen.
I saw photo from drone or satellite of a candle factory before and after - it simply was gone. was like that all along the path. unworldly images from on the ground photos.
:(
yes. it's awful. like something from a futuristic movie. and the number of people who died shocks me.
225 miles of tornadoes, yet the NOAA can't clearly connect this to climate change as they can with droughts, hurricanes, etc. too complex with these kind of tornadoes.
haven't had time to look at the paper today but for the headlines.
any clues for the bo8?
a french tree collection
kay, i get the first four letters, but the second hah of the word is escaping me. i have tried every "french" combo i can think of.
secod half, even.
eieios, like the end of a French bakery or a plate of meats
whew, thx. kept trying to use the t.
got the bo8, but had to use the 8 word list to get it
bo is not girls, second part is group of tv episodes
oh, you got it. hurray!
struggling with the second row e....
8 word list? what is that?
I only have 3 out of 8 of them
i only have 3. eb4, es5/6
the a to z word list on lickety
there's a eb plural of black keys
ah, we usually just call it the list
yeah, but that comes from the 4th row e....
mich not the lickety list, its another a to z list on the right hand side of lickety's page with 5, 6, 7, 8 , etc list of words
ah... I haven't ever used it - I'll have to pay more attention. Thanks faith
it sometimes helps if I'm really stuck :)
i don't want to list yet....
may i have clue for be 6 27? if anyone's out there?
past tense of what you do in a casino
the other one is past tense of a superlative
silly me. thanks.
anyone have the te7,40 please?
the last three are a common pen. the first part like not there, but with different first letter.
opp. of there...
do ... mi fa sol etc. sorry, so tired.
thanks mab!
did you get it? it's a miracle because none of that make any sense at all!
i kind of monkeyed it :)
that's good. and i'm awake now.
really stuck on the first be6/7 combo
be plus worry
thank you!
