here in grid fairly often
guess I was wrong, the ot 6 means "being at leisure; idle; indolent" or "superfluous or useless". I'd never looked it up, apparently.

ok - went there to try it out, but have to take out a subscription for the NYT to play - not about to happen
you can do a few words without subscribing, that is what i do
i just try to get a pangram and then enough other words to get to the "subscribe if you want to find more"
you can also pay for a games subscription only, definitely on your phone. not sure about on the website

I can't get Wordle to open.
KT, the source code gives you the exact words. some computer nerds on my other forum saw that a couple of weeks ago and then one of them got 1 and we were like, how did that happen? so then they explained it.
apparently wordle is transitioning to NYT today, ori. some people got it on the old link, some got it on the NYT page
I was able to play on the old link today.
why would you want the word lists for wordle?

fyi, I was not looking for the Wordle list and was surprised it was available in the source. I check web page source to see if there are security issues/holes and if it is a web site I want to search historical pages for data using a script.

for example if you view source on this page - you can see that the developer hides the words and gets them from an external source using an Ajax call. Wordle exposes the lists which is poor programming.
nan, I chatted with him in early Jan on serpentine. tried to talk him into coming back here.
KT, I don't even know programming and think it's bad you can just look at future answers.

if the lists are buried in the code, carla, you usually have to sort your way through to find the words and as Kt said it is part of the program, so can't be avoided. That doesn't mean that most people would or would want to look them up.

@hokie - The first list contains words that are acceptable to guess - it contains over 10000 words. So I do not see that helpful. The other list contains words that are possible answers - it contains over 2300 words - so again I do not see that as necessarily helpful. The lists are not directly in the source but are in a javascript that can be opened by a browser. Since a person is only given 6 guesses, the surfeit of words in both lists would not help other than perhaps helping to devise a strategy on optimal guesses.
What I find interesting is that the acceptable guesses outnumbers the acceptable answers by a factor of 4.

In both Tile Stats and Word Stats, the numbers tell you how many words there are of each type, and how many words you have gotten. For example, the H tile says -0/6 because there are 6 words starting with H, and I have none of them. When I get all 6, it will be grey instead of white
