if one of the Hs were a K we could have fetlock
Cs are hard :(
They CAN be, unless they're CERTAINLY soft ;)
effing is word--I use it everyday!
Me too! That O in the upper left is bugging me - I only have one four letter word from it
Oi4, or4, or5
and some birds too: or6 & 7
Tx for the birds!
Yes - thank you!
morning, all. not quite a phantom, but a pattern that reminds me of crinolines
Good morning. What are crinolines?
those poky stiff slips that made dresses flare out
(no comment)
said the guy who shares half his name with ru paul
haha - more than half
I don't know about dresses.
i'm no expert, that's for sure. now let's talk waders :)
Or backpacking gear.
we picked up a couple of cheap walking poles, we're not as nimble on slippery riverbeds as we used to be
(i've never been nimble - i've always been clumsy)
scrabs, we met a couple of gals in utah who were doing some serious hiking, even rented some waders and boots for river-crossing
i can't imagine adding them to a backpack - even the lightest weight ones are pretty heavy
When we hiked the Northville-Placid Trail in the Adirondacks last summer (138 miles long) we had a few river/creek crossings.
One particular creek needs a bridge as the water is high and dangerous after rain.
you hiked 138 miles?
Yes. My sister and I did it in sections.
i don't know about there, but here, you have to be careful which soles you choose for wading boots - vibram are preferred, since felt, if not dried properly, can introduce whirling disease (and other crap) into water sources
whoa
they're athletes, ru - i don't know how they do it
I never knew, welki.
as long as they're legal, i'll keep my felts and take care of them properly - they're lighter and less likely to slip
It's beautiful in the wilderness, seeing ponds and lakes that can be reached by foot only. We use tents or primitive shelters.
we're headed to northern saskatchewan late next week - debating on whether or not to take the boat. weather is still dicey up there
Myxobolus cerebralis
our backpacking tent was retired decades ago - you're a better camper than i am :)
yes, scrabs
i don
i don
shit
There is a COVID expert in Saskatchewan. Dr Angela Rasmussen. I follow her on Twitter.
i don't think either of us could get up off the ground :D
We much prefer the lean-to life.
i remember having to chip the ice off the sides of the tent.
those days are long gone - now, it's heat and ac and ice for drinks :)
for martinis?
and manhattans
ah hah
(and i admit, i bought a custom mattress for the trailer, just like the one at home)
mmmmm ... maybe i'll bring martini fixin's
years ago, a girlfriend and i took the kids camping, and i brought a thermos of martinis ... and a guitar. we had a blast, until some guy yelled, 'shut up already, this ain't woodstock!'
(he actually said, shut the f up already ... hahaha)
Ha!!!
ha
Haha.
so much for my five mile hikes on the weekends
Do whatever distance suits you.
so i spend $25 for an oriole feeder, grape jelly and oranges. first oriole today and he's on every seed feeder in the yard - does he come to his personal buffet? nooooooo
I have yet to see an oriole this year.
hah. I have a bunch of orioles and they could not care less about their feeder.
They just like the bird bath
I have one of those.
The Buffalo shooter is in court now. The media has been covering this story so well.
your bird is in the grid
Oops, I have it. I will gladly run to the penalty box.
<<-- joins scrabbler in the pb for blueberry muffins
hah meatball
I even had it already and forgot
I'll head to the pb too
me too, mael
*unable to talk with pancakes stuffed in my mouth*
oh, thanks. was struggling to get more than 2 on that O.
did someone tweet it to you hokie?
ru building a nest of puns again
the puns are going to start flying now
naw.. i'm just flocking around
Don't ruffle your feathers.
anyone else try effing?
i'm just winging it here, but i'll give it a try
hempshow flew in!
you're all good egss
A little cracked though.
I'm shell-shocked you all put the bird in the chat
or should I say flipped the bird?
oh, I just found some more birds in the grid
I have two more birds too
I have the little yellow ones in my yard.
<--just c's to go
wow, ruru good work
certainly you'll find them
I am off today to pack up for a backpacking trip in the Finger Lakes tomorrow.
I have 108 left
have a good one, scrabbs
HIgh temps in the 80s though.
enjoy scrabbs!
isn't it cold up there ?
Usual would be 60s-70s highs and 40s for lows. We will have 80s/60s.
ugh. We're going to hit 99 on sunday here
eek
Whoa.
96 here yesterday
just in time for us to be at the baseball game and roast
predicted to be a whopping 61F here on sunday (this is our long weekend)
where is it going to be 99?
MA
we are supposed to be 92 today and 97 tomorrow
well, here in Concord it's forecast to be 99, I'm hoping that Boston is a little cooler with the sea breeze
92 Sat but only 89 on Sun
ugh hokie, that's no fun
NO. That's where I am!
ha, I am in Concord too
Somerville
hah, I lived in Somerville for ten years
other concord, I assume? :)
yes
in NC?
everyone in the Boston area "Used to live in Somerville," It's changed a lot.
but it's funny because I was about to say "here in Concord" and then your post starting that way popped up.
yes, NC
I only moved 7 years ago, Kaplan. Davis Sq is still great :)
And expensive. That's my ward.
I go back pretty much once a week (well, to Somerville then porter, because the lesley food court has the best ramen around)
that it is, kaplan
that's funny hokie
what a coincidence
We used to eat there when the kids were little But at heart, I'm a Flushing girl.
I had style, I had flare, I was there...
Flushing in Queens?
Oh, yeah.
i lived in jamaica from 1960-1972
(before then, brooklyn)
I have never lived anywhere in NY or Boston ðŸ˜
Jamaica Queens of course.
yep
Is there anywhere else to live?
as opposed to Jamaica Plains, in Boston :)
I lived in Syossett for a while
Q17 bus line. I am writing an essay about it.
or the actual country of Jamaica in the Caribbean
Syosset- that's "out on the Island" isn't it?
not quite as far out as the big duck
We have Towns of Boston and Concord here in the Buffalo area.
not too far past Jamaica
A lot of Jmaaicans live in Jamaica . That is from the Island but settled in Queens. Flushing is now mostly Mandarin.
I think there's a Flushing in Michigan or somewhere, but they have no right.
ok, I'm struggling with the 2nd col E's. are these weird words?
not for babble
I have three from that tile, they're all normal
enlime - to add to your drink, such as a mojito
ok, found a 3rd on the one and the bottom one so moving on
I endorse that word
oh, finished the one now
hoes
oops
I was not calling anyone here a hoe
or ho
no need for insults, hokie! lol
bottom row gray and HOET! but 68 left.
I finally found the sheep. Duh.
feif
Not a word.
it is for dyslexics
I flipped it.
did you finish, ruru?
Hello all. Too big for me to finish today. But I always enjoy the chat and hearing about different places. High today is 91 in N'ville. :)
hey sophie
Hi Sophie.
I passed halfway so I am done. Enjoy the day.
Bye, Scrabs!
That's what I'm going for, too, Scrabbler!
bye, scrabs
I saw a guy with a Tom Selleck mustache yesterday. I guess the millennials are bringing that back?
some things should be brought back, unless, of course, it's Tom Selleck or Sam Elliott.
I've been rewatching Magnum lately. what a show.
as long as they stop wearing a man bun i'm ok with the moustache
you're right man bun is the worst
we've been over this. mael loves the man bun and the rest of us hate it.
I disagree! but I'm a baby gen xer :
lol
hokie remembers
let's be clear, there's man buns and then there's man buns
I wasn't sure if you were gen x or not
whoops, sorry, didn't mean to drag up a previous conversation
Male buttocks are fine. Men who wear their hair in buns are not fine.
bahaha
I appreciate both
maybe they wanted to be ballerinas
I guess I'm technically a millennial now, they've reclassified the lot of us
Every time I see a guy with his hair in a bun I think "Do you know how stupid you look?"
Mael, I just looked at your profile....you could be my child, so you see why I'm not crazy about the man bun
an old millennial or a very young gen xer
I've got white hair, I have a hard time feeling young these days :)
just googled - one source said gen x is through 1980
molly really objects to the man buns
I was born in 85. We were gen xers until they named millennials, then dumped us all in there
I'm not fond of women with crew cuts either, so I guess that makes me somewhat traditional.
yeah, you're a millennial
I appreciate all manners of hairstyles on all manners of people. Not that there aren't those who look better than others, obviously
one of my aunts had a crew cut type cut in her older years, with silver hair. she rocked it. but yeah, not for everyone.
but sophie, no worries! I can talk about buns all day
cinnamon buns too
hot cross buns - has anyone ever actually eaten that? I remember from a kids song or poem when I was a kid thinking, what is that.
Some things just fall into the "oh honey, NO" category. Like the guy I saw once who was wearing sling-back Crocs.
Hot cross buns are an Easter thing. Yeast buns with a cross of sugar icing on them.
I love how the convo goes back to food :)
That kind of question surprises me from Carla The Google Queen
as a wise woman once said: i'd rather have buns of cinnamon...
well, my question was has anyone here ever eaten them and then I said I wondered as a kid.
(vs.buns of steel)
I've eaten hot cross buns at holiday dinners
not i . i do not like raisins
there's a place for raisins
and that place is in cinnamon raisin bread or strudel
I rarely eat raisins too.. i never think of them
I generally like raisins
i would buy raisin bran and pick them all out.
I like them yogurt or chocolate covered, plus in certain baked goods.
Oatmeal without raisins is joyless. So are oatmeal cookies without raisins.
TO, me, too
i will eat the golden ones in scone bread or bread and butter pudding. that's it.
oh.. oatmeal cookies for sure
oatmeal needs nuts
I love raisin bread.
nuts will kill me.. I'd rather have joyless oatmeal
only if they're drakes. well, the old drakes, which , as many other things. are sold and not the same
the old drakes oatmeal cookies, which ny people will remember, had pureed raisins in them
for moisture.
i never had a drake
I was like, is she talking about ducks?
they were the best. a stack of five or three, at times. chewy.
I do like chewy cookies
carla, google drakes. they made a famous coffee cake single serve. grew up on them
Devil Dogs
floor is no doubt dry by now, time to put the kitchen back together. happy babbling.
They are a Tastycake equivalent
and ring dings.
nue
bye
my mom tried to make me eat them,,,,, I buried them in the back yard.... she probably saw me, because she never tried to force them on me again...
well, I'm going to walk Winston before it hits 91. still 75 now. 59 for later. TTFN
sorry, talking to dog groomer place I'm still stuck on the raisin convo
finally finished the 8s
icong
oops
:D that's creative
desperate more like it
but I found that last I in the end :)

Do you know which N it's from?
yes, the left n
ni 5 + two vowels
an addictive substance, and plural
supposed to be an insult to NA Indians
rhymes with how a mosquito bite feels
The addictive substance is, I think, a 7/32
oops. my clue was for the ni8 and 9
isn't the addictive substance ni 7/32?...along with ni 8/9/8....is there another addictive substance?

Time for a break.

outrageous
pretty sure Kraftwerk predates Enable by about two decades
i once saw a company vehicle where the company was called "Effin Computers"
Could be read the wrong way...maybe potential customers thought they were there to screw them up
not the best company name IMO
Apparently there still is an Effin Computers
their motto is "No slogan necessary"
based in CT by the look
it appears I might see some snow flakes tomorrow
I'ts close to 90 btw, for reference

sorry I was lurking lol

hey joy...getting ready for some possible snow friday/saturday here
snow? in May?
moo, we are getting ready for 97F tomorrow
about 90 here today
I'm okay. It's pleasantly warm by me, and only about 60% humidity during day.
its 106 here in central texas
I don't think I could deal with 90 one day and snow the next
wait what? It's 90 but it's snowing?
about 18 months ago....103 one day, snow the next
We went from almost 90 to snow next day in March.
the other day it dropped 16 degrees in 3 minutes in Denver
ooh, found a word
that's way toooooooo much of a temperature drop
I found a word too! but I still have a lot.

Hey friends. Just wondering if anybody has heard from Zoozoom recently?
I hope so hoke...I hope that you will avoid the despair and grief that I went through
I haven't in months
not sure I've seen him since I came back
oh, just found a big cat, so maybe not. doesn't seem to be a pair of Ls
I have not, and no Cyber Nan lately
lame
inhelo - to circle someone in a helicopter
Thanks Carla. Hopefully no news is good news re Zoom. Sophie, I know Nan’s husband was quite ill. I hope all is ok with them.
sophie, I fear the worst for nan's husband. sounded like he was in hospice care and the kids were coming in. she said she may be gone a little while.
and I really do worry about zooz, soodle. I hope he is getting help.
Me too Carla. I’m extraordinarily fond of Zooz.
me too
Yeh, we should be concerned about both of them. Zoom really needs some help badly.
I also hope Nan hasn’t suffered a loss.
I'm afraid Nan's loss is inevitable from everything she said. 😥
yep
Yes, Joy, that's what I thought, too. I'll just keep praying for both of them.
I have been keeping an eye on the obits where zooz lives, and thankfully no mention. My hope is he is still playing and just being quiet. He did that on a different, similar occasion if I recall. Keeping him in prayers, and Nan too.
ch, I have checked them out from time to time too. glad I'm not the only one. 😬
and mlfan.
long time no see
nan has family in to see her husband who isn't doing well
I do fear the worst for mlfan too
yes i do as well.
Hey ch1212. Thanks for your email. Well done for keeping an eye on things.
I also checked the obits on Isle of Wight too CH.. nothing there
Oh no. Is mlfan unwell?
I hope he sees our posts and realizes how much he means to us.
she disappeared about 7 or 8 mos. ago, soodle.
hmmmmm who was the African American lady retired lawyer DC ?
mysterweous
or something like that
I think MLF has been kidnapped by ISIS and is a prisoner in Sudan
Gosh. The internet is great & we all seem to be so connected, but when push comes to shove, none of us have a clue how to make actual contact with actual humans.
well, someone here did call the police for zooz
the last time I remember talking to MLFAN I think she was having problems with her account...she had been in the chat less too...hopefully just lost interest
trif.. did.. she probably saved his life or contributed to saving it
is MLF the lawyer
the lawyer's call name was mysterweous
no, MLF was not
I think that might have been the time before last Ru. PoorZooz has had a couple of episodes.
I have a feeling MLF wouldn't pass the Bar exam
she did get picked on a bit by a certain person
no.. I think she saved him this time too Soodle. He did try to kill himself but then the police showed up
there was a retired lady that wrote articles for the quakers or something. JLM?
oh.. you mean JMnRick
she's busy doing taxes for clients
I think that is who Sophie is thinking of. she was a retired lawyer
I forgot Je was an attorney
If that’s the case, Ru, I nominate Trifioso as Babbler of the decade. Any person who contributes to rescuing another deservesb
Definitely JMcnrick. It's on her profile too about being an attorney.
yep.. she's a hero in my book too
but yes, I haven't seen her in a few months either (JM)
and yes, trif is a hero.
also I think Molly contacted Dr. God who tracked zooz down by IP address for the police.
that was heroic also
....deserves acknowledgement. (The fact that I have met Trif in real life & know that she’s an extraordinary person in no way influences my nomination 🤗)
Trif has my vote too ♥♥
Yes, I remember Trif went all out to help zoozoom. I sure hope he's ok.
I do too. he's a very kind man.
Am I senile because I cannot find senile?
He’s not just kind. He is tolerant. He’s gentle. He has a lot on his plate with elderly, demanding parents. But he always presented on Babble in good humor. COME BACK ZOOZ. You are missed!!
I tried senile this morning and it didn't take
clue please for ni 7/36?
I am starting to worry about my mind these last few days of babble and spelling bee. can't find anything.
sorry, CH, not there yet
you probably have a few good years left carla
I do not have, ch, and not seeing it
I'm tolerant too :D
thanks anyway, hokie. Still looking.
does anyone play word wipe? i think that's good brain execise
the ni7/36 sounds like the philosopher
the clue I found for the NI that helped me is "misspelt German philosopher"
thanks for the support, joy ðŸ˜
You've been busy hoke, not sure anyone's mind would hold up to that
perfect clue! thank you joy!

bye, mool....
bye moo
are the ho 5 followed by the ho 8 recognizable words?
They are... pronounceable (and related to each other in the obvious for this grid way)
I don't have any
got them....ty, freep....
not hotel as much as I think it's there
yw. I didn't know that word, though
i have seen it before here....but i didn't know what it meant...
anyone willing to clue those ho's?
Rhymes with an alcoholic drink - I prefer it neat, not on ice
that's before the 8
unless there are 2 HO8
Thanks, I'll work on that...
rhymes with a type of liquor....not rye, not bourbon.....
Gerund the ho 5
ah, got 'em, thanks!!!
Fireworks here - have a good day everyone
ok, I have that HO5 and 8. so I need 2 HO5 before those words?
and another HO8?
there are two fours before those...
(admits to looking for hodka first)
the ho 8 is a combo...ho 7/8....real word....the 8 is a pl....
The other ho 8 is to do with phones - compound word
oh, I misread pen's original thing. the HO8 is after the 5, so I have them.
oh, but I need an HO7/8 🤣
liz just clued them.....
oh duh
i am done...
nice job
compound words always evade me
ty....listed early (40)....
