Good morning, IG. Were you hit by the storm and power outages?

hI, Scrabbler - yes! Ice everywhere, but power is back on

5:19 am

How long was you power out?

5:19 am

Yep, big science word

havent found it yet - not long (on the power)

5:21 am

I am glad you're ok, IG.

If you sit down in my driveway, you will slide all the way down (80 feet)

5:21 am

5:41 am

hi Scrabbler......I wish you well o your upcoming surgery. In 2020 Chad my shoulder muscle ripped in half with a dislocated shoulder and it had to be woven back to gather again. Then therapy and then 11 months later a shoulder replacement.

5:42 am

Oh, no. Yes, I must get repaired. Pain for 7 months is too much. How is your new shoulder?

5:49 am

hello all

5:50 am

GM!

5:50 am

Hi aslindy

5:52 am

Yes sorry for your pain. I was in pain before my surgery for 7 weeks and then after the weaving I not only had to wait for the healing, but because of the onset of covid I had to wait for 11 months more of pain to get a time slot for shoulder replacement surgery. My shoulder now has 95% mobility which is great! Still cannot sleep on my side. And have become an insomniac because I have had to sleep on my back now for in total 3 years.....and I am a side sleeper. The other problem in Ohio ..... even though I have never been a drug abuserer one to take a lot of medicinal drugs, I had to BEG for a two week supply of Percocet.

5:53 am

Undertreating post-op pain is a sin. I do expect a short course of an opioid then I will switch to naproxen ASAP.

5:54 am

wow that 12 is a windy word

5:56 am

!!! Way to go Deeha!

5:56 am

sorry for such a long-winded answer. And good luck with the naproxen.

6:00 am

When do you start on your surgical journey, Scrabbler?

6:01 am

February 14. My valentine is my orthopedic surgeon.

6:01 am

I didn't notice that we have 10s and a 12.

6:02 am

Ooooh...just got a 10! Need another one and the 12.

things that feed on others - science endings

6:06 am

I got pa12.

thats for PA 10 and 12

end like that MU word, Scrab

6:07 am

got em

6:08 am

I had to change doctors because the first did a very good job with weaving the muscle back to gather and attacking torn tendon, but was not very human when I begged for a second week of Percocet. He said," Oh, are you really in pain? My second orthopedic doctor for my shoulder replacement was much nicer and sympathetic even though he could only give me 2 weeks of Percocet and then tramadol, which did nothing for the pain.

6:08 am

attaching... not attacking

I have weird lights on outside since the power came back on - gonna go investigate

good morning all. got the pa12 but not the pa10 help please

7:37 am

I only have the 12 too

7:37 am

add the study of to the 10

7:37 am

7:38 am

study of creatures that live off other creatures

7:38 am

I have the 10 but not the 12

7:38 am

I just can't see a non-study word, hah

7:39 am

8:03 am

Honorable Mention to Carla for being the first to comment at the flip and blurting while doing so. That is a special skill. 😊

8:04 am

I found a nice bird, that's always a treat :)

8:07 am

I'm putting money on Hurshy calling soliloquy as a phantom.

8:07 am

I'm not taking that bet

8:07 am

:)

8:08 am

You don't strike me as the betting kind.

8:09 am

you'd be correct! how are you today?

8:11 am

No bad. Yourself?

8:11 am

decent, it's supposed to get bitterly cold this weekend

8:12 am

Here too, but then 50's all next week.

8:12 am

yeah, it's been a strange winter

8:12 am

no real snow to speak of up here, warm january

8:13 am

I'm loving the no snow part. I know you dig that kind of weather so sorry Ma Nature hasn't obliged.

8:16 am

I do! but I'm glad there's upsides to no snow :)

8:16 am

3 left, all Ms

8:20 am

8:23 am

8:50 am

I just looked at the stats.

9:08 am

Any clues welcome for the large words.

9:17 am

awww poor thing, hope he is OK

9:17 am

he's a little better today.. i'm staying home with him

9:18 am

then he is in good hands

9:18 am

we should all be as lucky as buddy

9:19 am

Well i am sure the long words make use of tghe ogy….or the logy. But not seeing any. Hints welcome

9:19 am

this grid is taking forever, off to finish last few. and Welki you are right!

9:20 am

as: 9, 10: person who studies stars and the science of that study

9:20 am

i have slowed way down at 74 left

9:20 am

can I have stats for the lone M?

9:21 am

last 19, going nuts

9:21 am

Ty got the 9.

9:21 am

mu 6 dan

9:21 am

mu 6/30

9:21 am

Astrologist

9:21 am

Ooops so so sorry all

9:21 am

have fun with that

9:22 am

got it saan & ru ty

9:22 am

i was salivating when i found it dan

9:22 am

well done both!

9:22 am

Darn. Apologies to all.

9:23 am

that snot a surprise ru

9:23 am

well that word was nothing to sneeze at for sure

9:24 am

I was besinus myself trying to find it though

9:24 am

gland you found it after all

9:26 am

I thought of Ru when I saw this yesterday. She's a vegetarian? I never knew that about herbivore.

9:27 am

I've been punning in serpentine and they are all ignoring me there too :D

9:28 am

i haven't played serpentine since we hit the road - connection isn't fast enough

9:29 am

i'd never be able to play serpentine on a lap top

9:30 am

I don't know how people play Babble on a cell phone

9:30 am

well.. when traveling and you need to finish.. you make it work.. it's a lot harder though But I've done it a lot

9:33 am

That "need to finish" thing left me long ago. Now I just play for fun when I have time.

9:34 am

well. I have my reasons

9:34 am

this grid sucks by the way

9:35 am

I agree, though this morning someone said "This grid is fun!"

9:42 am

sure was not fun. see you tomorrow!

9:43 am

free bee still works

9:43 am

bye saan.. chat sunday

Hi all, diving in

9:44 am

for sure ru, hope Buddy is OK

9:44 am

thanks.. i'll update then

9:45 am

hm, well, i'm stuck already with this lone M

9:47 am

In the chat, hurshy. Ru and Dan have been punning aboout it.

9:48 am

ah thanks

9:48 am

i was wanting to put that root with an -ology ending instead

9:49 am

but it wouldn't be a word, even if it were in the grid

9:51 am

here's a linguistic question... why is a person who studies biology a biologIST, but a person who studies astrology is an astrologER

9:51 am

geologIST

9:52 am

were they purposely given a different ending to mark them out as non-scientists?

9:53 am

anthropologIST, sociologIST

9:54 am

polygamist

9:54 am

is not a scientist

9:54 am

but that doesn't come from an -ology ending

9:54 am

i'm trying to hone in on -ology words

9:54 am

no.. that comes from an orgy ending :D

9:55 am

lol

9:57 am

whoops, i guess i should go to the PB, didn't realize they were letting the suffix count as a word on its own

9:58 am

um yeah.. i was going to say something but you were on a roll

10:00 am

i think i'm siding with the "this grid sucks" crowd

10:01 am

i haven't found the second 10 yet

10:01 am

i haven't found either 10 yet

10:01 am

OH

10:01 am

THAT's in the grid

10:01 am

double PB for me

10:02 am

this is what you get for proceding tile by tile

10:05 am

good morning everyone

10:05 am

morning, nan

10:05 am

Just have the as 10 -- anyone know what the other is?

10:05 am

no clue

10:06 am

how about the right-hand i word?

PA 10 and 12

10:06 am

hi ru -- got home late last night -- will answer your last email today.

10:07 am

10:19 am

10:20 am

should these pa10 and 12 be ... um... not too hard for us to find, or are they weird?

10:20 am

they are not weird.

10:21 am

ooh i got the 12

10:21 am

start with the organism that needs a host

10:21 am

now i try to work backwards

10:21 am

woot!!

10:22 am

10:24 am

take the prefix off the 12

10:24 am

weird stats remaining... 9-5-2-9

10:26 am

ty Bea

10:27 am

also stuck on that lone m

10:27 am

and the io 6

10:27 am

the M has robot ending

10:28 am

mu6.30

10:28 am

it's is6, not io6

10:29 am

ty again Bea

10:30 am

yw, nan

10:31 am

got the ten twelve

10:33 am

whe - finally monekeyed the is - ty hurshy

10:36 am

yw

10:41 am

it has been a long time. I pray everyone has peace.

10:41 am

back after breakfast

10:43 am

whoa... letterboxed changed the font of the letters

10:46 am

I got the corner m

10:47 am

hi all. help with i in 2nd column please

10:48 am

Is 6 24 Peri

10:49 am

lot of science type words in this grid

10:50 am

ty got it

11:15 am

di 7 please?

11:15 am

you know you're an anglophile when... the crossword clue is "make out" and you have S_O_ and you put SNOG but it turns out it's actually SPOT

11:17 am

I still can't find the M or the i with the stats. guess I will look them up.

11:17 am

oh good i wanted to talk about 7s, i only have two

11:17 am

hokie, M has the robot ending

11:17 am

thank you!

11:17 am

the is6 end's with Captain's ____, Stardate whatever

11:18 am

mu 6 has a robotic ending

11:18 am

ah, thanks. got the is too. kept trying to make the other ending work

11:19 am

which would've been a lot more points

11:19 am

is 6 -- maybe a lone chunk of tree trunk?

11:19 am

the di 7 means to change the shape of something....or change an idea into something that wasn't meant....

11:19 am

yes -- is is not spelled correctly as far as I am concerned

11:20 am

ahhh thank you pen

11:20 am

i had phantom: disparate

11:20 am

the di 7 is not spelled correctly?

11:20 am

ty pen

11:20 am

yw...

11:20 am

thanks pen. how else would you spell the di7, nan? looks right to me. or are you saying the is6 should end in ue?

11:21 am

no the is should end with 2 vowels I think

11:22 am

that's because you're a wacky canadian who likes to add unnecessary letters like the brits.

11:22 am

all I can say to that Hursy is that the language is English!

11:23 am

ha, that was me, but this is english too

11:23 am

ME? i am the anglophile, i will happily accede to the English spellings

11:23 am

Correction, it is a US spelling of the IS that ends in two vowels

11:23 am

oops - sorry -- it was carla that made that comment, not hurshy

11:24 am

well that's an interesting twist, molly!

11:24 am

do you know when I read things like neighbour I read them differently than neighbor?

11:24 am

I do too Carla. And colour and humour

11:24 am

yep

11:24 am

any of them

11:25 am

i have my spell check set to British so it's always underlining things when i am typing them for settings in which i am using american spellings, lol

11:25 am

like mostly -ize words, instead of -ise

11:25 am

US brains are conditioned to read our like the ending of sour

11:25 am

idk, i think i think of it more like neigh-boor, than like sour

11:26 am

Why do you have your spell check set to British?

11:26 am

oh, I read it more like neigh-BORE as opposed to neighburr

11:26 am

because hurshy wants to be british

11:26 am

or irish or scottish

11:26 am

hurshy will have a french flag soon :D

11:26 am

france is good too

11:26 am

well, I was including all of them or I would have said english

11:27 am

agreed -- love France

11:28 am

Any clues for pa 10 and 12? Is it two words or one?

11:28 am

what i actually have, fo' reals, i a pan-celtic flag, which is six sections, it includes Bretagne, Ireland, Scotland, Isle of Man, Cornwall, and Wales

11:28 am

and also, Northern Ireland is part of the UK but Ireland IS NOT!!!

11:28 am

I am reminded of a Stephen King story called "Word Processor of The Gods" in which if the protagonist typed something, it made it so.

11:28 am

that's cool....

11:28 am

Brings a new twist on DELETE

11:29 am

I am aware

11:29 am

*Starts singing "Give Ireland Back To The Irish"

11:30 am

Got the 12. Is the 10 similar?

11:30 am

I don't have either

11:30 am

10 has robotic ending

11:31 am

speaking of american vs british spellings, if you watch the movie Official Secrets (2019, stars Keira Knightley), which is based on a true story, there is a key part that hinges on the different spellings, it's kind of crazy (and it does reflect what really happened)

11:31 am

the 12 is AS, right?

11:31 am

aey n

11:31 am

no, it's PA

11:31 am

carla -- they are derivatives of the little bug you do not want living in your gut

11:32 am

Gluten?

11:32 am

Any clues for the 10? That is pa as well i think.

11:32 am

gluten isn't a bug

11:32 am

Sorry, there was no way I could not say that.

11:32 am

It was a joke Nan

11:33 am

there's a lot of little bugs I don't want in my gut, so not especially helpful yet.

11:33 am

oh, was there an AS10 then

11:33 am

Carla,think tics, leeches, etc.

11:34 am

beginning with pa, carla

11:34 am

It refers to all of them. They are all pa******s. This is a different form of the word.

11:34 am

now that I know it's PA I realize it's more general. gotta get the right ending, thx

11:34 am

Oh gee i just realized i. Have no 7s or 8s. So i welcome any of those words with stats please. Ty.

11:34 am

study of, thanks me and everyone else.

11:35 am

Ha! She thanks herself

11:35 am

pat pat on the shoulder

11:35 am

taking a bow

11:36 am

so the 10s are PA and AS?

11:36 am

I gave you an Honorable Mention earlier for blurting on the first comment of the flip

11:36 am

thank you, I thought that was pretty good

11:36 am

Yes. The as 9 and the pa 12 have same ending.

11:36 am

correct

11:37 am

Missing the m word top corner left. Any stats? Ty

11:37 am

yes, I have both those. trying to find out if the 10s are PA and AS.

11:37 am

mu6, robot ending, mkg

11:37 am

yes they are hokie

11:37 am

thank you

11:37 am

The flip used to be rabidly anti-blurt, anti-clue for the first hour. Then a bunch of new people took over and changed all the flip rules.

11:38 am

then I show up and just give a word within 2 or 3 min

11:38 am

They weren't really rules, just kind of gentlemen's agreements.

11:38 am

no actually, it was right at 12:00

11:38 am

Gee i still abide by the one hour rule.

11:39 am

Ty hurshy

11:39 am

It was reasonable. People wanted an hour with a new grid to find words on their own. Now it's a pissing contest to see who can call the words first.

11:39 am

I guess I never flipped then

11:40 am

There were usually calls at the flip I thought, but no clues

11:40 am

I agree. Who needs to call them out. I just find them

11:40 am

Molly, it's not a pissing contest.

11:40 am

it is what it is....some people enjoy it that way....no one has to look at the chat....

11:41 am

I don't think I would find half of those words without the calls

11:41 am

did you say the WHOLE WORD, hokie? and was it an accident of wrong box, or did you just not realize the word you wanted to say was in the grid, or what?

11:41 am

freep, you're just salty I beat you at telling a word 🤣 j/k of course

11:42 am

You did!@

11:42 am

yes, I said something like I hope there's an ology word

11:42 am

Nope, no one has to look at the chat. I'm glad we have a way to turn it off.

11:42 am

and yes, I didn't realize ology is a word

11:43 am

oh, i had no idea of that either, thank you.

11:43 am

don't think of that as a blurt -- ology sort of sticks out like a sore thumb when you just glance at the grid.

11:43 am

well i had the same problem, just not at the flip

11:43 am

and then everyone else found all the -ology words. but only because I told them! :D

11:43 am

Ty i also didnt know that was a word. Isnt ism a word too in this crazy game?

11:44 am

besides, it's only a five letter word... ;o)

11:44 am

AND i said the whole as10 not realising it was present

11:45 am

I typed the 9 before. So anyone who reads the chat can have a good time.

11:45 am

ok so what other 7s do people have? i've got di7, op7, pa7

11:45 am

This means ologies would be a word, too, which... I don't think I've ever seen

11:45 am

I am still not getting the mu word. Any clues on meaning?

11:45 am

guess I need to read the chat then

11:45 am

has to do with snot, mkg

11:45 am

mkg - it's an adjective having to do with snot

11:46 am

or..Biochemistry. any of a group of substances resembling the mucins, occurring in connective tissue, cysts, etc. ..

11:46 am

you know most of us are science-ignorant, pen

11:46 am

Ty

11:46 am

Working on it.

11:46 am

well she asked for a definition...

11:47 am

thanks for meth mu :)

11:47 am

Resembling the Mucins sounds like a bad comedy movie title

11:47 am

hah....

11:47 am

I got it. Ty

11:47 am

hurshy - I've also got a do7 and an ae7

11:47 am

Ok so two more tiles missing:

11:48 am

The right bottom corner o and the a above it. I welcome clues.

11:48 am

ooh thanks freep, will look!

11:48 am

how did i miss that ae??

11:48 am

oh, and a gl7

11:48 am

hmmmm

11:49 am

mo 7 please?

11:50 am

mkg....or 6....a speaker....

11:50 am

I only have 3 7's because I don't really read the calls at the flip, I have to see them or I don't see them

11:50 am

robot ending, nan

11:50 am

Ty pen. Got it. Ty.

11:50 am

I still have NO sevens or 8s. Cant believe it.

11:51 am

anyone want to give a grammar hint for the pa10 ending? i.e. type of word? kthx

11:51 am

the 7s seem quite elusive in this grid

11:51 am

ack, how can i get an mo7 with a robot ending?

11:51 am

there only seem to be a few ways and they don't work

11:52 am

the mo7 doesn't have a robot ending

11:52 am

Just got gl 7. Whew. Now just jeed an 8…….and i am missing the i word second column i. So hints welcome.

11:52 am

oops, i misread mu

11:53 am

my bad

11:53 am

o

11:53 am

chop pa12 to get si8

11:53 am

I don't know what it is, but I am positive that's not the ending

11:53 am

not finding the way to get to that robot ending

11:53 am

morning all

11:54 am

*we all yell, "SEAIN!!"*

11:54 am

nan....mo does not have a robot ending....

11:54 am

Hurshy i got it. Ty.

11:54 am

the c, d and g are the only possible 3rd letters as far as I can see

11:54 am

moooo

11:54 am

got the gl7!

11:54 am

I am done for today. By all.

11:55 am

moo better hide

11:55 am

bye, mkg

11:55 am

bye, mkg

11:55 am

oof, that SI8 was unexpected by me, thank you

11:55 am

Ooops still missing that i word. Darn. Sorry carla but i am still here. Ty.

11:55 am

I actually have that, still trying to get the 10

11:55 am

Sorry justafreep, i am still around.

11:55 am

oh ty pen - just caught your post

11:56 am

very twisty grid today.

11:56 am

Agree, DC.

11:57 am

mkg...the is 6 ends in what you put in the fireplace...

11:57 am

carla, at the risk of causing renewed chaos, for the 10... think robot ending

11:57 am

Thanks penb

11:57 am

yw...

11:58 am

Got it pen. Ty all for great clues.

11:58 am

still not finding that mo 7

11:58 am

ok, just looked up right before, but thanks, freep. it was indeed that. ;P

11:58 am

Anyone need any before i leave? I only got 108 words but still……..

11:58 am

no idea why I wasn't thinking that ending /s

11:58 am

no thanks, mkg....bye...

11:58 am

11:59 am

12:03 pm

to bend soemthing out of shape

12:03 pm

sorry, that's di7

12:03 pm

it's a 6/7.

12:03 pm

12:03 pm

I keep seeing doxology even though there's no x.

12:04 pm

ah, thanks freep

12:04 pm

the do is a compound (and oddly, Carla, there's... not overlap, but something like that with your clue)

12:04 pm

what you will often find in library books, hursh

12:05 pm

The bad page marker

12:05 pm

oldshoppinglists starts with ol, though....

12:05 pm

12:20 pm

12:21 pm

not great, they think maybe she had a stroke. we are waiting for an MRI. but she is actually a little better today I think.

12:22 pm

sorry to hear that, but hopefully if she's feeling better she's heading in the right direction

12:22 pm

yep

12:22 pm

how are you doing?

12:23 pm

well, most all of tues was in a bad ER chair. this recliner is better but my back is starting to feel it today. and I don't have my therapy dog with me.

12:23 pm

thanks for asking

12:24 pm

yeah, hospitals aren't generally designed for comfort for some reason

12:24 pm

I know, definitely never expect to rest as a patient either

12:25 pm

how far away from home are you?

12:25 pm

2 hours

12:25 pm

at least that's not too far

12:26 pm

will prob try to go home this weekend for a couple of days. last night I left when my brothers got here after work, so that helped.

12:26 pm

yeah, good to be able to get some breaks in there

12:27 pm

Can really wear you down

12:27 pm

and seems to fall on the daughters moreso than the sons unfortunately

12:28 pm

yep. and I was thinking surely i'm losing weight by eating protein bars for lunch but still I've managed to gain a pound.

12:29 pm

Well stress, tiredness and worry don't help the body, or the mind..

12:29 pm

well, my brother that lives a couple of miles from her has done a lot so he's going in to work

12:29 pm

that's good

12:29 pm

are you a wellness coach? is that what your calls are? :D

12:30 pm

Not by any stretch, but have been through a few of these sorts of situations

12:30 pm

I'm wishing I had brought my night guard over here as I keep clenching my teeth.

12:31 pm

But supporting my partner and their relative...

12:31 pm

Don't have any advice on teeth clenching

12:32 pm

my spelling bee has really been suffering. I think I've been doing good and nice and solid.

12:32 pm

regular practice of meditation could help reduce stress thereby reducing teeth clenching

12:32 pm

Yeah, well, I'm sure they'll forgive you :)

12:32 pm

I did at least get the pangram today

12:33 pm

thanks, hurshy, maybe I'll turn on that meditation thing on my apple watch.

12:33 pm

reading Moby Dick will also relive stress, but may institute extreme boredness

12:33 pm

if I just had my therapy dog!

12:33 pm

But it is good for putting you to sleep

12:33 pm

it will relive stress, hmm

12:33 pm

lol, so true

12:33 pm

oops

12:34 pm

well i guess if you're really into 17th century whaling, then yeah, it might be very captivating

12:34 pm

nothing like reliving stress

12:34 pm

I'm not sure I've ever read it. can't remember the classics we read in high school.

12:34 pm

yeah, I generally don't want to relive it

12:35 pm

I often recommend it for those suffering from insomnia

12:35 pm

and I'm not even joking

12:35 pm

just realized I have 13 s's left. couldn't figure out how I still had 31 words when I have 2 or 1 on most everything.

12:35 pm

in the intro part of the book of The Princess Bride, wherein William Goldman is pretending that what he has done is to abridge a much longer book of that title written by "S Morgenstern", he talks about how boring the parts he "cut" are, and he says something like, "... just as the sections on whaling can be omitted by all but the most punishment-loving reader of Moby Dick..."

12:36 pm

ha

12:36 pm

That pretty much sums up my experience

12:36 pm

Though I did learn what Ambergris was

12:37 pm

I think pretty much every other fact I quickly forgot

12:37 pm

but if you ever yearn to know the details of wailing, and how to rig a whaling ship, then Moby Dick is the book for you

12:37 pm

whaling

12:37 pm

sheesh

12:39 pm

disparator - a machine for making things different

12:42 pm

sometimes once i hit the list, and find words i missed, i feel like such a dingus

12:44 pm

i just accept i wont see some eassy words

12:44 pm

and now, the dingus is done

12:45 pm

because she can't eat wheaties!

1:44 pm

Okay, your Honey Bunches of Oats have never been peed on.

1:48 pm

ok I am confused why is it not taking astroid?

1:50 pm

asteroid

1:51 pm

yes but the math one is In mathematics, an astroid is a particular type of roulette curve: a hypocycloid with four cusps. Specifically, it is the locus of a point on a circle as it rolls inside a fixed circle with four times the radius.

1:51 pm

Scrabble and Words With Friends won't take astroid either.

1:51 pm

weird

1:52 pm

They are probably not hip to the math terminology

1:53 pm

with all the science ones in this puzzle just surprised me

gee, cheryl...turn down the nerd a little😜

1:58 pm

I hope you're talking about the AS, moo, and not the other one.

1:58 pm

the 10, she was a 10

1:59 pm

skepticism skipped over her and went straight to me

I only got the AS10 because hurshy was complaining about the ending and typed the whole thing out. But I'm with her, I was looking for the other ending too.

as long as you weren't calling her pa10

2:01 pm

well I got the "science" but not the practiioner

2:01 pm

finally got it

2:02 pm

ah no, although she does have some unusual views on what affects her health

I wonder if a day will come that I don't try sorta. that seems like perfect slang for enable.

Hi orgami. It looks like I am impersonating the knights that say "Ni" tonight.

9:01 pm

We have brought you your shrubbery

9:04 pm

Thank you so much, Molly. Almost no one brings a shrubbery anymore.

9:05 pm

I don't think anyone has ever brought me a shrubbery

9:07 pm

Come to think of it, I think that several people gave us shrubbery as housewarming gifts.

9:08 pm

But now, can someone bring me a clue for the gl7?

9:08 pm

"the opening at the upper part of the larynx, between the vocal cords"
