nm
i keep trying hiree but no luck
That's never worked.
and yet the unemployment rate remains low
I have 6 great nephieces and one granddaughter
and it does work in scrabble :)
We can go on and on about the stupidity of Enable, but the only thing that bothers me really is racist words and slurs that have no other meaning. They are offensive, and words like hiree are not, so we need to trade up dictionaries.
45 left bbl
To me, a word is only offensive when it is used pejoratively at someone. There, the offense is intended. A word standing alone in a dictionary or a word game is just acknowledgment that it exists. There is no offense intended in that.
oath
well. what a way to announce my arrival!
Molly, would you feel the same if the n word was used?
hebe is a word in Enable, but, it doesn't mean anything Jewish
pe 7/36, pls
Some of these words might be objective to you but painful for others, is all. I don't think they are un the scrabble dictionary.
I learned that hebe, which is definitely a slur- look it up- is also a small bush or plant, so it has another meaning.
I know I pontificate on this a lot, but dago and jew as a verb are problematic. I think spic probably has another meaning- I can look it up easily. Wetback would not be nice to find.
The n word is accepted in Enable. And yes I would feel the same way. There is no offensive intention when a word is in a word list, dictionary or word game.
If you are offended by a word because someone calls you that, I understand. If you are offended by a word because you see it in print, I don't.
These days, when so much hatred is in the air, why cause people pain?
I am not about to ban Huckleberry Finn, but it would be interesting to hear from our BIPOC players about this. Unless this is a thing that White People Do.
BIPOC...black,indiginous and people of color for those who don't live dig the acronym way of life.
I move in professional circles where micro-identity is important, and I have needed to accommodate to the requests of the younger generation
I have never seen pronouns and gender as something that I need to announce or declare, but others do, and it makes an uninclusive statement when I don't use she/her/hers.
I have gotten to the point where I will only refer to people as you or by their name. I can't deal with all of the "labels" and pronouns. It's gotten absurd.
But not I can claim being a washed out senior citizen. as Dylan said, please get out of the new road if you can't lend a hand/ for the times they are a changin'
I have trouble with they as a singular. Who are we talking about? Them or them?
I can stay on the road. I'm not using anything "non-inclusive" by saying you or using a name.
I would never mean to hurt or offend anyone, and I apologise if I say the wrong thing, but I must admit I sometimes find it confusing which words are acceptable. Not the n word obviously and similar I'm not that thick! But I'm not always sure what is right and wrong.
It does change.
I just assume everything is offensive. If people have become offended by Dr. Suess, well, offensive is the name of the game.
It's really really bad to misgender people, but hey- why would someone be surprised?
I'm waiting for "I'm offended by your offense".
I think sometimes people look for something to be offended by
Dr Seuss really! He who wrote the Sneeches?
Some people have felt invisible in their organizations.
People feel invisible all the time, for a variety of reasons.
Words are inanimate tools that people use, they can indeed be used as weapons but that only works if the recepient takes them to heart. Offense can be found in anything if you go looking for it.
bichon....are you still here?
yes, pen
do you still need the pe 7?
please
ends with spanish for day....ends like the ne 9...
Thank you cheryl, well said.
ty peri
Oh, so it's on the person who is the recipient of the word to not take them to heart?
good morning everyone :)
hi nan....
People don't go looking to take offense.
um...yw, bichon... guess i am channeling peri today....not a bad thing really... ;o)
We're in the middle of a thing about offensive words. I should warn ya
Funny how in organizations I am usually bothered by all of the labelling and terminology, and here I feel we need a course in cultural sensitivity.
Ah, Obama did one thing right. That green fountain at The White House on Saint Patrick's Day has lived on through two more President's. I think it's a keeper.
I don't think anyone here is being culturally insensitive.
ty for the pe and ne, pen

For word nerds ethnic category- it's a whole history. Seems like dictionary was compiled in South Africa. Did you know there is a eneva standard of legitimate words? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_\nethnic_slurs
It's not stirring the pot, it's just historically interesting and very varied.
Geneva standard.
Please use tinyurl.com to post links. The long ones don't post properly (see the inserted \n's) and they blow the chat width
I'm sorry I am illiterate. tiny url?
