Hi everyone - I'm just back from 3 weeks vacation and tried so hard to get into this game - does anyone know what happened? I'm so happy it is back - I need this to wake me up in the morning with my coffee.
Dr. G said on facebook that the host site shut down the server without warning - at least I'm pretty sure that was it. Says the search is on for a new host.

Just for fun, what is one of your favorite Halloween memories? There was a "rich house" in our neighborhood that invited you in for homemade doughnuts and hot chocolate.
I lived in a small circular neighborhood with lots of kids, so just going trick-or-treating with my neighbor across the street, then going back to one of our houses and dumping everything out to trade what we didn't like.
I remember it being very very cold and me wanting to go in my costume and my mother forcing me to wear a coat that covered up the costume…….and it was so so cold outside.
Now it is warm on halloween.
also there was one kid that was always making stuff, and one year he made something scary and put it on a fishing pole and hid in the woods. then when anyone walked by he would cast it out in front of them. 🤣

halloween memories: we went around after school. then changed costumes and revisited the good houses. where you got a nickel or dime or food candy.

a full size candy bar! or wax lips or nik-L-nips or candy buttons or all sorts of stuff that would make moms recoil in horror now.
don't forget the candy cigarettes that blew "smoke"
and now there are stores devoted to nostalgia candy in the area.
oh yes. with the red tips.
never saw ones with smoke. or do not remember them.
when I went to San Francisco in August they had an old fashioned candy story on the pier... and they had these cigarette candies lol I had to get some
there was a corner store with that candy right across the street from school. quelle horror!
I thought they still make them, but they don't blow smoke anymore

I have a friend who said there was a man in their neighborhood who gave out dollar bills. A dollar bill was a lot of money when I was 7 or 8.
the most money I got trick or treating were pennies.. which all went into my dad's penny jar

one time we decided, after hitting the hood in the afternoon, we would try one of the big apartment buildings where the "rich" folks lived. we were quite disappointed. always better in the hood where the people knew you.
carla, it was just as easy to throw in a dime as to go get candy for a dime, so people did. halloween was so much simpler then. not like now
my parents got a ton of kids over the years because it was so easy for people to drive and drop their kids off since it was a half mile circle.
we definitely got the coins.

we got homemade treats from our neighbor. She would wrap them up and put her name and address on them so people knew they could trust it.
we didn't have much homemade stuff that I recall but we knew all our neighbors so it wouldn't have been a problem.

and you were all in a pack with little brothers and sisters in tow.
we had this one really weird family and they had 2 chows in the backyard so we stayed away for multiple reasons. the oldest son still lives there and is a pyromaniac. he was out burning stuff when I drove by last week. texted my brothers in case I disappeared.
we would end up at one house with hot cocoa and cookies and mom would join us.

I had to stop trick or treating when I was 8. I got told I was too old to trick or treat. I was talll for my age. I was crushed. I haven't worn a costume since. My sister would trick or treat for me after that. She was older, but much shorter.

I went to Catholic school and we had the day after Halloween off because it is All Souls Day, a holy day of obligation. Now they make the poor kids go to school and make sure they get to Mass during the school day.
wow. I think my boys stopped around 8th grade. I don't recall how old I was, but I was on the younger end in my neighborhood, so probably earlier.

I am 6' now hokie. My kids are tall too, but they were encouraged to keep trick or treating no matter how old they were
lol, molly. mr. homie went to catholic school and when we first were married he was saying why are kids going to school today, they should be off the day after halloween. I was like, WTH are you talking about? nobody ain't never got school off the day after halloween.
Here, town closes the main roads and open it up for families. They dress up and go from shop to shop trick or treating
lol, TO. I chaperoned a school trip when my son was in 5th grade and all the girls were taller than me. one of them was like, mrs. so-and-so, we couldn't find you! because I was blending in.

well, lambertville nj takes the cake for halloween around here. i have no costume this year so I will not go, but everybody can go. when i was tonya harding i got a ton of candy. people were yelling hey tonya! it was a blast.
but the adult treats were the best. best apple alcoholic drinks ever.
if you google lambertville or are on fb you will find photos. kids parade is the best.
We have a shopping center here that does activities for kids all day the Saturday before Halloween (live entertainment, crafts for kids, trick or treating at the shops and a bar crawl for the big kids).
