In Germany prior to WWI there was indeed a movement that was actively PR6. it actually said that war was a moral IMPERATIVE, and that since being the ones to start a war gave you a better chance of winning, as your enemy would be unprepared, it was also RIGHT for them to not only FIGHT a war, but to start a war. like straight up RIGHT. not "oh, well, war is not great but we are justifying it in this case on these grounds." no, they thought it was ACTIVELY RIGHT.

Hurshy, I don't know why you decided to post what you did, but allow me to correct you. When I was young, my mother was adamant about correnting me whenever I used the terms Gernan & nazi interxhnageably. NO, You must always remember that the nazis were the bad men & women who were actively hunting for Mommy, they wanted to kill me, they tortured me, broke my bones and raped me. (in the end, she stabs the nazi that raped her.) Germans, on the other hand, were the people who provided Mommy with safehouses to spend the night, we had good meals and good conveersation. Also, over a dozen geave their lives ias opposed to telling where my mother was hiding with her intel. Also, never make the mistake that there were active anti-war German groups - a very famous one is White Rose.

4:42 pm

sa+ ---n ... dirty movies

As a ,atter of fact, the last event I worked, there was a lull prior to the event & at my table sat a lady. She started talking to me & along the way, she mentioned she was German. So I shared with her, that which I just shared with you. She took my hand & started to cry, saying that I had not idea of how important it was for her to hear me say that. Actually I have an excellent understanding, as I have gone along all my life thanking every Brit for going over & above. Those Keep Calm & Carry on, and Keep a Stiff Upper lLip. I manage to make them cry within 30 secnods. Why, they too feel underappreciated for what they did.

4:56 pm

we were discussing the existence of the pr6/33 as a word. and both things are true. hurshy was discussing the pre-WWI (one) bellicosity of the Kaiserreich under Wilhelm II, and you were discussing the post WWI rise of and resistance to nazism.

4:57 pm

and poor Molly and I got in the middle of it when she tried to help me find my last word....SA5 Molly, I'm sure that's a brilliant clue, but I'm still stuck

Thanks for clearing that up dan2bit!

7:55 pm

yeah i certainly wasn't saying all germans were that way, just that it was one group of people.

Yeah Hurshy, sadly when you use imprecise language like that, that is exactly what people believe.

8:19 pm

well, nobody asked me, but... I thought hursh was precise enough... I totally got the point. I don't see anywhere that German = Nazi in the whole statement, sorry, HK.

8:22 pm

anyway, I'm done - later, all!

rbud, So, you actually believe everything is one-sided. No, there are always people with morals. WWI, WWII - it 's all the same. And it becomes more & more imperative to say that clearly and loudly, as time goes on. Clearly I didn't come in on the start of the conversation.

9:34 pm

I didn't think that Hurshy's statement was imprecise at all. Hurshy was talking about a movement in pre WW1 Germany. There was no mention of nazis or WW2 or there was no statement that said implied in any way that all Germans are the same. I think you totally misinterpreted what Hurshy said.

Whenever there is on overwhelming majority interested in a war, where war is a moral imperative, as Hurshy said, there is always opposition & it's crucial to shine a great light over the opposition. She didn't have to actually said it, she implied it. Hence, precision of language is so important. Present both sides, not just one.

But, true, I did not realize PR6 was merely a clue.

Wow! Hurshy's response struck a nerve with HK, I see. I had actually thought about posting in response to Molly's statement that she hadn't realized that prowar (we might as well say it) was a word. I thought she meant that the word is usually hyphenated "pro-war" and Enable doesn't accept hyphenated words. Because surely pro-war movements have occurred in every major war--I had actually been thinking of the Vietnam War and the response in this country that was pro-war. (I was anti-war or "antiwar"?) Hurshy wasn't presenting "sides" but rather talking about a movement. illustrating to Molly that the term had been in use for a long time. My thoughts as a lurker who mostly enjoys the chat and takes full advantage of the clues, including pr6.

fireworks... peace out

Yes, if a person is very, very knowlageable about WWII, because her parents & their friends talked about their horrific exploits, they get triggered by the slightest thing. You can't just talk about the aggressors while never mentioning the Resistance.

I too am unable to see any imprecision or logical fallacies in Hurshy's post. It seems that you are judging Hurshy, not only for what she posted, but also for what you perceived she should have posted as well. One cannot project their own sense of propriety on anyone else. You CAN talk about aggressors anywhere and not mention resistance movements. Your last sentence demands objectivity where no argument has been presented.

Thus the rules of war, when no one wants to really talk about it.

That will happen when a topic such as this is brought up in a simple chat log instead of a political forum
