hi scrabs, how's life treating you
My little guest rabbit needed to see the vet yesterday for 2 problems. He has a cataract and glaucoma and a mite infestation. Meds have been started.
poor guy
He was a bit overlooked with 4 kids, a dog, and cat in the home.
He has stayed with me many times in the past when the family leaves town. He stays in a separate room from my bunnies.

I am obsessive with the health of my rabbits so as soon as I saw him a few days ago I knew he needed to see a rabbit vet.
people shouldn't have so many dependents if they can't care for them all

it's inflammation in the foot, due to infection or injury
we've been soaking it but she's still limping, poor girl
what kind of vet is that? the kind that sees cats and dogs or the kind that sees cows and horses and other farm animals?
though I'd limp too if I had to be in all this damp New England weather these days...

this vet does both, we were lucky to find someone who looks at chickens! our cats go to a cat specific vet and our neighbor is a big animal vet so he could give us a rec

Years ago I dated a large animal vet and we would trade on call stories from living out here in farm country.
remember any good ones?
I read so much James Herriot as a kid that I love any big animal vet on principle
He did a C-section on a cow in a barn.
wow, not exactly the sterile environment one prefers for surgery, eh?
Large animal vets have a truck filled with equipment and travel to farms--cows, horses, sheep, goats, pigs. Obstetric emergencies, GI obstructions, skin infections, etc.
for a while i used a vet who did home visits for cats and dogs. she was so elderly, i was always worried she was going to fall on the steps up to my front door. she was much stronger and tougher than she looked i guess, because she would go sailing and do all these other things, but it was still nervewracking watching her on the steps!

i wanted the home visits because my Marty was so badly behaved at the vet, i hoped he might at least be a little better if it was at home instead. it was weird because other than the vet he was the tamest, sweetest love of a cat!

i remember once driving home from the regular vet and giving him a stern lecture in the car. "i can't believe how naughty you were! what kind of a momma are they going to think i am, raising you to behave like that?!" and he hung his little head in shame

Opie is the king of everything, so he feels he should be able to do whatever he wants at any time. therefore there is never any reason for shame, no matter what anyone else may think.

pretty much, yeah. but he doesn't mind the vet, he loves people in general. it's too bad i don't have more people in my life who would come by and pet him. he has a strong need for petting.
not her fault, she used to be fine with it until she got an infection and had to have her anal glands expressed and she has never forgiven anyone related to the veterinary profession

and as the king he does also have a sense of noblesse oblige. he generates hope inside his little body and radiates it out through his golden fur so that anyone who needs some may have some.
she's all hiss and no bite but she gets SO stressed out that we just give her gabapentin before hand

bea, what kind of soil should I use in a raised bed? mix potting soil with garden soil?
they make a soil specifically for raides beds.

it won't compact like the other soils
I just use garden soil (sold in sacks at home depot) mixed with peat moss, and add some bone meal and veggie fertilizer.
I'm hoping to grow some things without the bears and squirrels eating them. and the deer.

yeah, at my old house I did peppers okay but never got any kind of squash because the squirrels ate all the blossoms. I really just don't want to attract the bears.
