Clues are up
ty lickety
morning babblers. Omg, 22??? No way.
ks killed
shanks
so sorry!!! Killed a fly on my screen and there went the cursor!
(OMG - I just confessed to murder!)
roflol :D
OTOH, I notice sprite did too.
true. We will be sisters in crime then.
Sounds good to me! Now to try to kill those Ks as well. I've only got 6, and am already kinda stuck.
ikr? Ks are horrible. I take them out first, then I can starting babbling for fun
let me know if you need help with them
I need a new methodology. I just type as fast as I see things...hopefully catching on to the endings and prefixes as I go. Nothing worse than seeing an ending and then having to go through my list to see what could use it. Not efficient at all.
oh I am the same. Except for the Ks. I just start typing until I hit a wall.
my walls come at me way too fast some nights.
I have accepted the kind of babbler I am. Rather chaotic, with a deep hatred of K-words, and pretty biggie-blind. I usually end up with most biggies left to find, and a whole bunch of 4 letter words that I should have spotted much earlier... and a heap of forgotten singulars, plurals, verb forms etc. Ah well. That's me.
I always wondered what our brains would look like on an fMRI machine...seeing what lights up as we're typing, typing in words we don't think are words, but then it is...realizing you probably knew it or read it ONCE and it stuck...just different things that go on in our operating systems.
Yeah. Strange, I know, but that's me. LOL!
oh yes. Areas will light up where no man has gone before... and some other, usually well-trodden areas will stay stubbornly da4.
LOL!!! Good one!
At least the Ks had one of my favorite foods, of which I haven't gotten to enjoy for years. Cookbook comes out tomorrow.
inspiration struck? That is one good thing then, from the terrible Ks.
LOL! I just saw your "dictionary" compilation! I will keep my eyes open for such words! I used to collect names of people whose names matched their occupations. I had access to a huge military database (which I needed for my own work). So when I would find names like Horner, who was in the Air Force Band, or a food service guy whose last name was Malboeuf...well, I loved it! My fave was a guy (Turkish, I think) whose name was Bulent Tur. He worked with aircraft. When his name was last name first...well, you have fun with it.
oh lolol that is priceless! We used to have a spokesman for the pilots here whose name was Baksteen... which translates as stone brick :) Quite the opposite of your collection but fun
I think that is funny in its own way...I believe we have an aircraft at one time styled as "the Flying Brick." So there's some possibilities there.
definitely
Right in my own office was Sgt. Bonebreaker -- yup, medical services.
roflol! Oh dear. The jokes that man will have had to endure
...and one female captain last name of Minor at my first duty station. I couldn't wait until she got promoted to Major.
hahahahahaha
Anyways, language is fun, and I love this group because you have to love it to play this damn game!
it is true, the love for language in all its ambiguities is something that connects us all here
oooh, only 10 Ks left to go.
* hugs * my darling sprite. g'day jeanne
gooooo jeanne!
*hugs rose* Hello my dear friend! How are you doing?
not too bad for a Friday. how are you traveling sweetie?
Greetings, granny! I get so many good clues from the two of you. I'm mostly a lurker, but I may come out of my shell after a decade and half or whatever I've played this game!
it is lovely to see you join the chat, jeanne!
TTFN!
you are always welcome to join us jeanne.
hope to see you again soon, jeanne.
TYVM! oooh, just found that awful ssssssthnake....
I am okay, rose.
wtg jeanne! That is a nasty one, with its brothers
weren't those flowers amazing? i seem to have a black thumb with anything green.... trying to find plants i can't kill... loll....
honey, they are so beautiful! Well done.
I got bit a few years back here on our property...none are venomous that live near our house. But, oooh, what a surprise!
I have deep respect for sn5s.
brb, nature calls
waiting for some dryish weather so i can get out there. lots of weeding to do, and i need to prep the soil before i plant out the sarsparilla vine, and mint bush. thus far they seem content in their bigger pots.
I like them if they're not big enough to take my air away and aren't venomous. Then they are welcome. Ditto for spiders.
Anyways, you gals have a great evening, and same for all the lurkers out there as well.
ugh jeanne. you are my hero. anything with more than two legs or no legs can stay away from me.
bye jeanne
naiad
sorreeeee
I had to adapt to where I live, and it's creature-heavy. My sister-in-law pointed out one day that we had a fly ( "a" fly, singular) in our house. C'mon, I'm surrounded by cattle! That was a GOOD day!
back
we don't have many scary creatures here. Apart from people.
Sadly, we have too many scary people here too. And so much of it of our own making. But let's not go down that rabbit hole (geez, Jeanne, you bring it up!) But yeah...
*grins* We send them back into their rabbit holes, followed by sn5s.
!!!!! I like the imagery of it!
isn't that in Shakespeare somewhere? "exit, followed by a bear"?
I'm altogether deficient in Shakespeare...I'd never make the cut for Jeopardy on that alone.
I googled it: Exit, pursued by a bear’ in Act III of The Winter’s Tale
Now I'm seeing bears.
:)
Speaking of bears, it's time for this one to hibernate for a bit! Thank you both for conversation and laughs (and a few inadvertent clues, for which I'm always grateful!)
Good morning all! Again, I know it's early, but has anyone stats for the bottom S? (And I like sn animals :) )
it was lovely to talk with you, jeanne. Have a good one!
hiya matty
(also, earlier in the chat you were talking about nominative determinism - I had an orthopaedist called Dr Bohne. And a rheumatologist called Dr Lim)
se7/28 and 8/40
oh that is priceless, matty, lol
Thank you for those S words - I've found them!
yay matty!
(quietly lurking again waiting on the clue...thanks for the name of "nominative determinism," matty! Also just reading how people come to resemble their names; i.e., "you look like a Debbie"
I got the name from New Scientist - a magazine ;) I wish I could say I made it up. Well, I could SAY it, but it wouldn't be true
that we change to match how ?society? perceives our name to look like? I think that was the thrust of the article. Okay. I really am going after I take a good stab at that S.
Jeanne - the 7 ends in a girl's name and then plural
;-} That is of great help! TYVM!
I was given the name Cassandra at birth, but my parents called me Sandra. When I turned 12 and went to middle school, I decided I would be Cassandra from then on... such a different feeling between those two names.
Hi all!
and I bet you've been told you look like a Cassandra (just don't actually BE one!)
hiya Kam!
:D
I too changed the shortening of my name, in this case when I was 20. My mum never, ever adapted. And I don't think my brother has in his own head. Bear in mind I'm 57, so it's not like it was yesterday
yeah, people can be stubborn that way.
My parents decided to call me by my middle name. I've always used first initial, middle, last - and now the banks won't accept it due to the Patriot Act.
It's a major pita since that law passed, lol!
so frustrating
Those Ks are a killer - I only have half of them (not asking for anything, simply commenting :) )
ikr! Let us know if you need any help with them
I can't believe there are 22 Ks! Ks are my downfall.
I am right with you on that
Monkeyed two more - now only 9 to find - I will shout though if necessary (though I shall be getting in the shower in the not too distant future)
the only way I can finish the Ks is by monkeying.
Are there any Ks longer than 5?
yes, a 6/7 combo and a plural 6
OK, not found those yet
the combo is an enzyme, if that helps
Hmmm...I shall think on it in the shower. For those whom I miss during the day, have a great one!
you too, matty, and enjoy the shower
fireflies. Time for me to go walk Nero. *hugs* to my friends, and to you all a blessed day and a peaceful night. Thanks for the fun and chat and games!
WTG SPRITE !!
see you tomorrow. * hugs *
bye my dear friend! *hugsssss*
22b k's. I hate k's!!
es5/18 doesn't exist in real life!
it does, just not where either of us lives.
hello all
phantom anorak
hello...stats for bottom S?
se7/8
ty
thanks!
sandle was not found in the dictionary. WTF
are you thinking of sandal?
ah, spelled other than pronounced. Been a while since I shopped for any.
well you were thong about that
I'm covered in cats. Apparently early morning is very different from lat morning. I really don't recall the last time I was up this early.
penalty box for me, didn't realize it was in the grid
heh
oh, so it is LOL
ot
it's 9 am where you are no?
yes
I often sleep 03-11
that's restaurant hours
my very first job was in a restaurant, though I was in HS then.
I hear a flock of geese.
this is early for migratory geese.
so more signs of a real winter here.
I've been seeing a lot of geese at some ponds near me, too.
the chipmunks here were SO busy yesterday. Enthralled the cats.
144 left after first pass, maybe finish later. Last day to pack boxes for this half of the move!
127 after first pass here. When the cat gets off me, I shall bathe.
I think it's going to be an early winter
there are so many Spanish words in the grid today. It's kind of frustrating for me.
early here means December. the worst of Winter her is usually Jan-Mar
It is gross to even think about winter. It is such a depressing time of year.
meanwhile, here in MA we can't wait for a killing frost this year
early first frost here is in October. Typical is in November.
hopefully it'll be a super early one, like next week (it won't because climate change sucks)
average is early Oct here but it hasn't happened in years. It would be excellent if we could kill all the mosquitoes asap
Why do you want a killing frost?
it kills the ragweed.
and the giant ragweed.
and pushes poison ivy into dormancy.
it's the EEE carrying mosquitoes that are the problem
yes, the mosquitos too.
and West Nile Virus. Many human cases this year, health department is sending out alerts, it's bad
and deadly
yes, west nile passed through here years ago. it took years for the local corvids to fully recover population. Lots of them died, as did a number of people.
WNV is endemic in MA now
Any clues for bottom row S words? Ty
EEE comes every four or five years
poetry related, mkg
mosquitoes don't like me
only the desperate ones
WNV is endemic here too.
aedes, the daytime mosquitos like me. The evening ones do not.
Ty
all mosquitoes think I'm a buffet
Not sure i get that clue…….poetry. Is it an se word?
yes, and plural
it's an Italian word, a type of poem
yes, starts with a prefix for six.
Ok ty
not sure i know this word at all.
Ty
How many letters please dc?
7
7
Ok ty.
Nope. Tried google but samplice not in grid.
found it. Ty
cat on me means I cannot reach my coffee.
and plural

Ty. Key was seven letters and plural. Ty.
:)
and here comes the sun in the windows.
little darling
:)
anyone have the ra5/18? after the 8 I'm not seeing it
do do do do do
I don't have an ra8. the ra5.18 I have is a plural.
I haven't made it to the R
it's an odd plural...hello all...
I only got through the first two tiles before pickleball
pen!!
carla!
hm. might should eat.
say da6s have you seen the master.... I'm surprised to see that word in accepted.
might should eat?
that song is the only reason I know that word at all.
it's called a double something, ruru. just yesterday saw someone on reddit doing a study on those
double modal
yes, that's it!
You are probably the only one who knows that song
I think in standard English it would be probably should eat
the one I use the most is a multiple "used to could"
Might should is kind of backwoods
wouldn't surprise me; I learned from a piano book of early American music. It's a civil war era song of jubilee. Called The Day of Jubilo.
yes, those modals are common in appalachian english
I grew up speaking Appalachian dialect. not backward. Dialectal.
thank you, carla.
Backwoods is different than backward
where did you grow up, seain?
oh, my bad, I misread.
Eastern Prince William County, VA
have heard of it, but nowhere near me
clue for the na7?
sorry, don't have it yet...
just started the top N
ty....found it. FW

yw
ra5/18 after the 8./75 phaeton?
n...vowel, vowel, vowel. cons ...na5
he needs the RA 5....
ra5 ok the ra4/8
what?
auto correct...plural the ra4/8...the second one
is there more than one ra5/18 because I just monkeyed it first try. ruru must have babble blindness.
no right after the ra 8/75
ra8 means wildly usually for used for men
I have two there are three
would you clue the middle ra5/18 please
only two ra5/18
there are only 2 ra 5/18's
both are plural
oh weird sorry..
ra5/18 has to do with military order
Wow this chat is all over the place
np
I thought I saw an additional one.. sorry my fault
yeah, I decided to go back to my other tile because it was too confusing.
hagd!
bye, phae...
adios
well, down to the bottom S on my first pass and can't find one.
it's se 7/8...
I have 92 for later, Off to feed cats, eat, bathe. Hasta luego!
well that tracks
bye, dc...
bye seain
is it a regular word?
it's italian....dc pointed out that it starts with the six prefix...i think... ;o)
well, I'm on the right track then
not the italian, but the six
it's a six line stanza poem...
was just about to look it up and then thought to try the answer
58 left and HOET
thanks for the S
i did not know it but i guessed...
Someone clued it earlier as ending in a girls name
it reminds me of a brand of purses and jewelry that I'm drawing a blank on now. the bags have like local maps and pictures on them.
finally had to google that, it's spar****
never heard of that company...
handbags are not my thing...
here's one...https://tinyurl.com/bdda3jzb
you see them in boutiques usually and they have local to the area items. I don't think I've ever bought a bag but have had some of their jewelry.

how'd the K go, moo? I still have 9 left
5 left on K
everyone seems to have a problem with yellowjackets this year, but i noticed that ours are really, really big, as if instead of killing them with my traps, i'm feeding them superfood
yuck
how big, you ask? i saw one fly off with a hamster
*cringing*....
we had a huge nest in our garage wall. I was out of town and mr. homie went out into the garage that morning and there were so many. he got stung twice just going into the garage. then he sprayed the hole and waited a while, then cut a bigger hole in the drywall and got it out.
ewww - we had one under our shed, unreachable. i sprayed as best i could and then used my sifter to put a coating of diatomaceous earth all around their access points. everyone is getting stung here - everyone knows who has the epipens
wow
I guess our jackets are chiller hear in CO
i'm getting in the car now, moo - will be there sunday morning
heh

well, i'm still getting nowhere fast, so it's time to pack this one in for now - have a great day!
bye welki
bye welki...
well I found 2 k's
and 2 more
on a roll!
There are cicada killers around this year - they look like giant wasps but "pose little to no risk to humans and pets." This is a big cicada year, and these guys just want to kill those locusts. True facts, google them.
oh, I was about to type what I thought was a bogus word, but turns out it was a real 8
sorry, didn't mean to just barge in, but just got here and was reading the wasp comments. :)
join in anytime, of course!
well, taking a break with 35 left. 7-11-11-4-2 S3 H3 T N A2 K5 T2 A D3 R2 S5 O L4 E2
72 left here, just starting last row
I saw some of the cicada killers out on the edge of our yard, they were on a locust. If I hadn't heard about them before, I'd have thought they were the scariest wasps I'd ever seen. They burrow. But I still didn't get too close, haha!
okay, i admit it. i'm procrastinating. rbud, scariest insect for me is tarantula hawk wasp - so big that i thought it was a hummingbird on my feeder!
well i am down to 42...time for a lunch break...
bye all...
bye, pen
wow, hadn't heard of the tarantula hawk wasp. Ewww!

might be worth it
well, my middle A was a not s plural
ah, still 3 from that
ah, found one...perhaps the one you were referring to
probably. I think it's the only one.
didn't read your clue until after I found it :)
found my last top A
I would hardly call it a clue but a little more help than usual
for me, the first two letters of a word, or even it's length are clues :)
I know, you have very strict rules
my own set, yep :)
I gave you neither of those things but I could see how it would help
yep, but I didn't see it anyway, just read the first part of your sentence

hello all. I only have 9 ks

I think I'm finally ready to do the clearcoat on my car
mr homie keeps telling me I'm going to have to just go to a body shop to get it repainted
hooray! that's exciting.
ICYMI, I was trying to touch up the bumper and then went a little crazy on a bunch of other spots and then I had to do bigger to cover up places, so now it's almost the whole car
oh, yeah, might be worth a full repaint then.
LOL, I'm sure it'll look better with the clearcoat
clue or stats for those S in the 4th column bottom row pls?
se 7/8
Thanks, dc.

wish I'd gotten the na5/7 pair without using morewords - the na5 is a favorite of mine, though I do have trouble seeing it
hiya all
Hiya hurshy
Hello hurshy
hmm, one left col T standing between me and Toppled Ts... anyone know what it might be?
hi everyone - not sure I'll finish this
that's ok nan, as long as you have fun eh?
lol - with grids this size that is debateable
I am still surprised that the city in Provence, France is accepted
i feel like it's easiest to have fun with mid-size grids like this - plenty of normal ones to find
I agree, hursh. The percentage of weird words is high in the small grids.
hurshy, do you have a ta7
Hello, evening players.
hi bea...hello everyone else...
hi pen
NIce to see you all.

In the wall.

Andre (lol - I know that's not his name). Anakin :)
ding ding ding!!!
But Andre's keeping him company in the grid
andre the giant?
andre agassi?
but of course, Andre the Giant!
can you imagine how many fewer people would know and love andre the giant if he had only been a wrestler and not been Fezzik in PB?
ugh, there are way too many Ks
gosh, can't see what to do with that bottom S
aHA i thought of it
