morning sprite
hiya ursh :)
quick hello and * hugs * for sprite. Dinner due in 10 minutes, and nurse needs to do my BGL's.
hi sweetie, *hugs*
and Don is on the phone too. lol.. what it is like when everyone wants ones body... lol
honey, what do you expect, with a body like yours?
bbesd
ugh, bbs. loves ya.
re8
on the other hand, with a brain like that...
lol, bye sweetie
and back. tummy very happy. how's it going Sprite?
a little better this morning. I took sleeping pills, last night and the one before. Does make a difference, doesn't it, when your body can heal during the night :)
absolutely darling. good on you for recognising your body's need.
and Rob is off to the annual member's meeting of the archery club... with Nero :D So I do not have to walk Nero this morning.
i'm going with the flow he4. actually had a nano nap BEFORE lunch today. pain is under control again, and i'm starting to feel much better.
nice one Rob. well done him.
ah lovely. You never realise how much the pain saps your strength and energy and joy, until it goes down
and.... Don has been through his mound of clothing he had worn, and left in a pile in the dressing room. he has decided he has too many windbreakers, hoodies etc. well duh! he's tried all of them on, they are all fit or are too big, so that's good. he just has to decide what to keep and what to give away.
good boy
he's being getting stuck into stuff like that while i'm in he4. i am happy. he's fixed our leaky cistern, and has worked out how to fix the drain from the front bathroom basin. he just needs a nice day to crawl under the house to affix all the new plumbing.
the boy is starting to realise he can use his own brain? Yay :D
crawling under houses i'm okay with. it's the climbing ladders and walking around on the roof which gives me the scares.
yeah, that might not be a good id4 anymore. He is no spring chicken.
* giggle * i keep telling him his brain is lying to him. he's not 50 anymore... lol. MEN!!!
:D we are just as bad though. I mean... I never realise I am nearing 60.
oh, and heart-breaking decision has been made. he is selling the Moto Guzzi, down-grading to a Vespa. much lighter to handle, and i can get on and off without any help. so back on the roads we go... wheeeeeee
good decision. Not easy, but good.
60!!!.... a bit of a while ago now for me. i remember my mum being my age, and my grandmother too. scary thought. that seemed so old to me. lol
3 of my grandparents made it far into their 80s, so still a while to go for me.
now I come to think of it, I believe two of them even got into their 90s
ditto here sprite. only my dad's dad didn't make it. his lungs were damaged in WW1. but i have some memories of him.
for me it was my mother's dad who did not get old. He died when I was a child. I have not many memories of him. Mostly his stinking cigars and how hard he pinched with his strong thumbs. Never intentionally, I am sure of that.
what sort of work did your grandparents do sprite?
oh and I remember playing checkers with him one time. He beat me mercilessly, lol.
all teachers, rose. My whole family was into teaching.
my grandfather who died youngish was a dean, even.
wow! no wonder you are so knowledgeable, and find it easy to learn new things. i had one teacher, both grandmothers were stay at home mums, well-founded in lady-like pursuits, like baking, crocket, tattiing, and housekeeping up to the strictest of Victorian standards of course. Dad's dad, i don't think i ever knew well enough. i do know he received a returned soldiers block of land on which he grew sultana grapes, but that's all.
aww that's CROCHET!! i corrected it twice and still got it wrong...lol
I always feel happiest when I can teach. Should have made that my career. But I love it that Caya is keeping the heritage alive, without any prompting from us :)
my mother's father was the teacher. and he was the man responsible for setting up all the rural schools through our state of Victoria. He and grandma, drove everywhere on a bullock wagon, buildings little homes, and bush shools for the local kids to learn at.
my grandmother on father's side was a knitter. Her hands were never idle, just like mine. Oh, did I ever tell you what my grandpa did for her?
oh wow, awesome, rose!
oh good grief.. this is getting worse.. lol... that's SCHOOLS
no. please do tell.
my grandmother lost her eyesight, slowly but surely. In the end she could only knit socks. But she couldn't pick up the stitches for the heel anymore, and made more and more mistakes in the rest. My grandfather learned how to knit socks, so that he could help her, pick up the heel stitches and silently correct the rest.
he was into his 80s by then, mind. That is what I call love.
how sweet of him.
so caring too.
yes. Speaks more than a zillion words. He also said, when she died first and he was alone after a lifetime of marriage, that he was glad she died first. "It is the last thing I can do for her," he said.
now that is so sweet.
very healthy state of mind, if you ask me.
oh and lol, I also have one naughty memory of him. My grandmother had to have weekly injections. After a while, the doctor said to my grandfather that he would teach him, so that he could do it for her and they did not have to come every week. When my grandpa told me, he said with this twinkle in his eye: "Your grandma's butt is my dartboard"
Don and i have already talked about this. the first one who goes is to be cremated, then buried in a casket with the second one holding the urn in their arms.
fireflies
nice memory to have sprite.
* hugs * my darling. enjoy your morning, and day. love you so much. miss you even more.
yeah, those are good ones. Not that many to go around in our family, so I treasure them doubly. And uhmmmm honey... I hope that the second one will have to die before that happens?
that is the plan, love... lol....
*grins* okay, then all good. *hugs* my darling. Have a good night there and see you tomorrow.
xxxxxxxxx
Hi all! Hugs, Rose. Dang, I missed Sprite by less than 10 minutes.
Sprite, if you come back and read the chog, I loved your story about your grandfather helping with the sock knitting. That was beautiful.
pe
my Dad taught me how to knit....... he wqs a lumberjack in northern Maine and Canada as a young man and they spent their evenings knitting and crocheting . theuy made all kinds of tjings>>
I am so intrigued by men who can cook and knit and do other things considered "women's work"
good morning - 54 p's - OMG LOL
Good Morning
men enjoy cooking...I'm too clumsy to knit though
Some men enjoy cooking. I don't know many.
you've heard of chefs haven't you?
I love cooking personally and learning new things in the kitchen all the time.
Yes I've heard of chefs. And some of them are women.
oh yeah.. there are many great women chefs. but until the 90'
90's it's mostly been men
I swear we are going to have to tie you up and force you to watch The Bear.
(other than Julia Child and a few other great ones)
There are a lot of other fairly famous female chefs.
more recently yes
it was a male dominated occupation when I grew up
The men were just more famous for it. There have been women cooking in commercial kitchens for a long time.
The only chef I knew about growing up was Chef Boyardee 😊
Speaking of cooking, it is a mere 22 degrees here so I thought I would work up a pot of potato soup.
The Galloping Gourmet!
I made split pea soup last night
Yummy
Made it last week. Still have some in the freezer.
*split pea*
I use to make split pea when I had a split pea soup lover in the house. My son and I are not big on it.
It is delicious
If I have a ham bone I do a ham and bean soup.
God, I forgot about Graham Kerr. He was a riot. My favorite TV chef was Justin Wilson. I loved his show.
Love that too. Ham and soup is a great combo
I like Jacques Pepin
I got to meet Julia CHild once at Robert Mondavi Winery
I just saw him making a dish with leftover mashed potatoes on FB! He had about 4 cups of potates, 3 eggs, half cup gruyere. Mixed it together, put in an oiled dish, added a bit of parm to the top, and baked 30ish mins. Looked yummy!
That's awesome, ru!
There is so much you can do with leftover mashed potatoes. I used to be friends with a family who loved turkey soup with mashed potatoes in it.
I've done that
Think I'll make lentil soup with bacon tomorrow

i just had a ridiculous thought
re8 is a pt of a regular word - to let go
missing e words for the e fourth column. help welcome
what if we ONLY gave clues that happened to contain kind of charged statements, like, "the hostages could have been re8 by now if Netanyahu weren't such a dick"

that is el 4 and 5
(that is not an actual suggestion, just me having a silly thought)
Then there would be even more political disagreements here I guess

Good snowy afternoon, my Babble friends. :)
just sunny and cold here. how are you feeling today, crossy?
Hi all, hope all Americans had a wonderful thanksgiving! Can I just ask, does anyone here feel as tho' this board is very familiar? As I do?
leas
Both the Mrs. and I are hanging in there. Both sick with COVID still. The rattly, wheezy lungs are the worst.
I am so glad we both gave up smoking in 2002 though.
Was at the store yesterday, and saw a fella buying a pack of smokes--$18.50!!!
Am I invisible??? Or have I just happened upon a very rude group players????
Sorry, Flask. Howdy. :)
But sick, and my attention span is not what it should be.
Bit*
Hey cross, hope your recovery is sooner rather later...
peal
As do I. My breathing sounds like I swallowed a bunch of kazoos.
Oh dear...
sorry, I don't sit here and wait for chat posts. I go to other tabs and do other things and then come back here. but hey.
This too shall pass. :)
hope you are better soon.
Same. I am all over the place today. Attention span of a goldfish.
and I need to make lunch
Flask, the otherissue is theres usually a time difference. Ill jump into a conversation and find that everyone has gone to bed. Lovely friendly bunch here.
People don't always respond right away. Like Carla said, they could appear on line, but be doing other things. And yes, it is always a good idea to look at the chat box time stamp.
I mean many times a day no one answers me and I'm just talking to myself but I don't accuse people of being rude.
I felt like the comment itself was rude.
I felt a little attacked. 😆
Well spotted BzznBea, it was meant to be!!! I have with Babble for many years...I really loved it for a long long time.....
but the past 10 years or so attitudes have changed a lot of people now use it as a sounding board...and the respect for other players have out the window.....there was time over 10 years when I had a very hard time...I felt there a vein of Scottish disliking! It was horrible!
Some folk in here are too full of their own importance!
not sure about attitudes, but I agree the chat has changed in the last 3 or so years.
and a lot of the time for the good really
considering players like Neil, JC, BR and other troublemakers
There are folk in here who think because they have been here since the day dot then they have Carte Blanche to remprimand somebody who doesn't fall into line
i don't see anyone getting reprimanded for anything?
Ru...maybe not today or even this week, but I have witnessed it many times!
reprimanded for what though?
the way I look at it this game brings a huge variety of personalities to the chat, some are abrasive others annoying, but most of the time it's fairly pleasant
I'm sorry Flask, just not understanding why you are upset
Ru, did you have a good Thanksgiving?
I did.. stayed home and played with the dogs. Brought My ex-wife some dinner, had a nice wine with dinner and watched a movie.. no phones ringing, it was a nice day.. how about you and mr Bea and your mom?
at least a lot of the nutjobs got bored with this game and went away... (my two cents)
Yes, we had a good holiday with daughter and grandsons. Meal turned out very good despite the missing oven.
what a time for the oven to go out.. jeez
I agree Ru. Chat is a lot better than it used to be.
where was your son-in-law bea?
Right? Oh well.
Daughter is divorced.
my ex has double ovens and the funny thing is she doesn't cook
oh divorced.. sorry I didn't know
it happens to the best of us
It's been a few years. She has a SO, but he isn't very entertaining.
oh (lol)
I'm not quite sure what Flask was worked up about...
It seems no one responded to her entrance.
she does get a little temperamental sometimes
I think I'll take the Budster for a nice walk it's sunny but cold here
Have a nice evening.
you too.. hi to Mr Bea.. hope he's well
namaste
Good evening, Babble buds. :)
I am just confused why someone would throw a temper tantrum about people not immediately saying hi to them and then turn around and say other people are full of themselves. and anti-scottish?? I've never seen that here. I complain about so many scottish words on enable that I've never heard of but that doesn't make me dislike scottish people.
rehi, crossy
I thought I was rather pleasant during our initial greeting earlier today. I am sorry if she felt otherwise.
me too
is there a working list today?
haven't looked yet. hold please.
lickety's list works
th carla
Hi all. Just popping in for a minute - I don't tend to chat any more because I've got other stuff I want to be getting on with and chatting is fun but takes time! I've always found babble very friendly.
hi lix.
Hi TO
Over the years, I have found that some people who chat here are very sensitive and get offended by things that others don't understand.
Hi Liz, nice to see you here.
hey liz and I didn't actually say hey to TO, so hey TO
Hi Molly and Carla - I'm still around and play most days but life is busy. There's no point in taking offence at something here because let's be honest, we mostly just "know" each other from babble and are probably all very different people, with different views and opinions and time constraints. The written word never really conveys the tone of words either!
And sure we can moan about unfamiliar, old fashioned, even offensive words in the grid but they are words and just that!
I'll shut up now!
ha! please don't.
:)
That's fireworks! Any clues before i go?
French Toast! Where the hell have you been?
I still have 26 but doing other things so not ready for clues, thanks. congrats.
i've wandered off or been called away after asking for a clue and returned to a sarcastic "you're welcome." but it means nothing to me.
good night, all. i am still jetlagged and it feels like bedtime. going to make a cup of tea. happy babbling, all
I read an article the other day about how doctors and mental health professionals are being overwhelmed in the U.S. by people feeling unmanageable stress, given the state of things. A nice reminder is to give each other some grace right now. We don't know what someone else is dealing with. {{{ Sending babble hugs to all }}}
Why ask for a clue if you are going to wander away?
OOH! Exciting news! I booked hubby and me for the cruise that goes through the Panama Canal, from LA to Ft. Lauderdale. It's in honor of my upcoming 70th, his birthday and our anniversary.
things happen. phones ring. sudden things pop into ming
mond
wow that sounds great
mind
I agree. If you are asking for clues you should hang around to see if you get one. Several players ask for clues, then leave and then ask for the same clue when they come back.
of course.
ch12, unmanageable stress is not an excuse for taking your personal issues on other people.
perhaps that is what flask meant... though i don't know her, so cannot say
for sure.
second chances... we all want them but often forget to give them.
Call me weird but I thank people when they go put of their way to give me a needed clue
of course,
that sounds exciting, ch!
doesn't it? sounds exotic
We have never been in that area, and the ship also stops in Jamaica and other ports, which we've never seen. 16 days! Trip of a lifetime for us.
ehen are you going?
Oh boy, CH. that trip sounds amazing. When do you go?
Next fall. We'll catch the ship in Los Angeles, and disembark in Ft. Lauderdale, then fly back home.
We got quite a good deal because the cruise line had black Friday specials on, so we saved a lot.
nice.
Well enjoy every minute of it, CH. i envy you!
Thank you. On that grateful note, I need to go help said husband in kitchen -- he is baking today. Hugs to all.
I’m just home after spending a week in the UK with my grands. A (sweet) 5 yr old boy, a (feral) 3 yr old boy & a 2 week old little doll of a granddaughter. God! I’m exhausted.

I have re8, what is the other?
pr8 / 50
hmm, is it a before word?
it is a plural of pr7...go straight down starting with the far right P
yes
it's a bit of a redundant word... you can't really post-do-this thing
got my missing s... se 5/12, ends with "put 'er there, *** "
that's FW for me, and dog walk time
well done
ok, had to look up nellie's PR hint and it makes perfect sense now.
so did I!
not sure about her se5 clue either
se5 - short word for friend
ok, thanks
is that the one you meant?
yeah, I just couldn't get her quote, but now it makes sense too
