hello everyone :)
hey, nan
hello all
hey, ursh.

ne7 x 2
and here I thought I was doing well to find one!
ah - there is the other - ty freep
yw
Clues are up
thanks, lickety
un 8/9
not seeing anything - time to crash. See you tomorrow :)
just spotted the un's --- nbt, nbs-- ty Robespierre
es
morning babblers
g'mornin', sprite!
hiya jeanne!
rather quiet here tonight. Robespierre clued the un8/9...however, I kept staring at the wrong N. Even with the best of help, I can still trip over myself! So a little convo to shake up the brain is in order! I hope all is well in your part of the world!
all good here. Winter is rather mild, lots of rain but not too much snow and ice. I heard that Rose's part of the world reached 41 degrees celsius today! Ughhhhh.
I hate heat. I can manage cold. I do not know how to manage heat.
OMG! That is hot! I agree with you...Cold, however uncomfortable, is preferable to too hot. As my dad used to say, you can always put on another sweater, but you can only take off just so much...
agree sprite - much easier to warm up than to cool off in high heat and humidity - we have summer temps often in the high 30's C but also very humid - very tiring
Hello, ursh! Humidity is difficult as well, although my skin prefers it!
exactly! And if you move around a bit and wave your arms energetically, you warm up. But what to do when too hot? It rarely gets around 40 here, but it is always humid. So even when it is 30 C, I feel like there is an elephant sitting on my neck. Ceiling fan, lots of cold drinks and not doing much of anything.
hiya ursh! Exactly!
So winter is my season of woodstove, soup, dogs, sewing, reading, and being with my beloved. To be honest, my summers are the same except no woodstove, LOL!
I live a pretty tame life.
me too. And the older I get, the more I appreciate and prefer a tame life.
Especially in our country now, too much craziness (seriously, I think most of us have lost our minds) around, and my goal is just to survive until rationality takes hold again. Seems to be happening everywhere. Babble is one of my favorite places.
the world is a truly crazy place at the moment. Very worrisome.
and not only in America. I just got invited to donate and join the zentangle benefit for Africa Youth Rising. Wherever you look in the world more closely, whole groups of people need support.
Jeanne, sounds great. I also enjoy more and more just being home.
it is. I know since the dawn of time people have felt like "end times" are just around the corner...or things have never been worse. And we
...sorry! ...we've always come through to fight another day. So I'm staying positive.
Be careful wtih the africa youth rising group. They can be doing things you would not approve of.
most benefits do, tbh. I hope they also do a lot of good.
What's that? I've never heard of them.
they aim to break the cycle of poverty by giving education, healthcare and other resources to young people. Lots of children are abandoned because their family just cannot feed them. Lots of bad orphanages too.
Is there a centralized group or leadership? They sound like they have great goals. Any hidden agendas involved?
(referring back to your comment about doing things one might not approve of.)
yes, a non profit with central leadership. They invest into several projects. I have no doubt not every penny will go where I would like and there may be hidden agendas. But overall, looks like a good thing to support.
Thank you for mentioning this. I am going to do a little googling on them now. We learn so little about anything global here. If you're not curious enough to actively find news about the rest of the world, you'll learn very little. You know, we're the center of the universe here (not)!
my child in law's family is from there and they told me they know several families that were helped.
At least some good reports from near first-hand sources, that is good. I will say good night for now, and do a little reading on this group! Cheers, all!
lol jeanne, yeah, that is something I have noticed in Americans. I think, when your country is so huge, compasses so many mini countries (states) and your political leader has such a great say in the world politics, it is easy to think that the world circles around you. Or that everybody speaks your language. Of course, we in the Netherlands are so incredibly small and stick our nose into everybody's business.
night jeanne, sleep well!
I loved my short visit to Holland back in the '80s...I lived in England at the time. I am fortunate to have lived in a few different countries, and that gives one a perspective on the world...for which I am grateful! Uh, stick your nose into everybody's business? Other that the Dutch East India Company, uh, huh? Never thought of you folks that way, LOL!
lol well, we do. Every international event or problem, we are there. We have a big mouth for such a small country.
Everybody's favorite auntie or wise uncle, maybe! We all need those as well.
*grins*
G'night for real...till later!
night night!
* hugs * sprite. how was your night? any better?
back! Hi darling *hugs* (very cool hugs!)
nope, bad night again. System overload apparently. Everything hurts too. I sincerely hope Rob can be more active today.
how are you managing the heat?
oh sweetie. i am so sorry to read this. i wish and pray that i can find a way to help you.
you are helping, just by being there and caring, honey. No worries. This too shall pass.
managing the heat sitting in front of the A/C. tomorrow i'm not going anywhere.
very very wise. We were discussing heat before here in chog. For me, it is staying underneath a ceiling fan. I tell you, our next house WILL have one.
or two
and you do know that you can vent with me, no judgement, no criticism, right?
absolutely
how's Rob doing? i hope he can pick up the reins for a few days. could you ask him? i honestly feel you need a couple of days just R&R.
yeah well, the problem is he seriously hurt himself by dragging all those slabs of stone that were under the container. And I mean seriously. He couldn't walk at all the next day, I had to give him heavy painkillers just to get through the day. He is getting better, he did take Nero for a short walk yesterday and he did the cooking.
I had the groceries delivered again yesterday, and enough for today as well, so no need to go to the store today
i am sorry he hurt himself but sometimes one just has to suck it up, and put one's own problems on the back burner. you and i do that all the time.
good for you re the groceries. could Nero have 2 short walks in stead of one long one?
I think women are more inclined to do that. It is probably a genetic trait. When your kids need you, you cannot give in to your own pains and sickness, you have to push through.
Nero is easy. He loves long walks, but he will accept short ones combined with playing with him in the garden. Tomorrow we will have Lewi here again, that means three long walks at least.
exactly. i was surprised with Don not making a big deal of how sick he was until after i started to recover.
he is learning! You setting some boundaries works.
but I will say in Rob's defence, he is inclined to do too much, and not too little. When he is on the couch, white as a sheet and not moving, I know it is BAD.
yes, i hear you.
and I am so proud of you for doing that. I know it was scary.
egad. temp expected to be 45C northwest of Melbourne. hate to think what it's going to be in our outback areas.
that is horrid
fireflies. Fun grid. Much more challenging than I thought at first.
but i am not going to complain considering the cold, wet winter we just had.
* hugs * sprite
WTG SPRITE!!
welllll neither is fun. Moderation, Big Guy. Moderation. Nice gentle winters. Nice gentle summers. Not that hard. Hmmpfff.
some unusual words this flip.
giggles
yes and some normal ones that were so twisty, I did not see them until the very end, lol.
*hugs* my darling. Sleep well. Stay cool. Most things can be left undone.
ditto. the un 8,9 combo for instance.
yes!
yes ma'am
love you honey. will be thinking of you, and my prayers too, of course.
Good morning, Babblers. :)
cr5 please?
morning crossy
by
Cr 5/18
A small parcel of land.
Is there a clue please?
thank you.
Np :)
Isn't it the last name of Lara, the Tomb Raider heroine, played by Angelina Jolie in the movie?
yes
morning all, afternoon medusa
lt
phantom: belfry
name that proper noun! a person from Down Under
aussie?
ding ding ding!!!
did you get that storm hurshy?
only a little of it
lucky for you, our news said it was one of the worst ever
i think it's harder for people in the South who aren't used to or prepared for such weather at all
phantom: usnea
phantom: aunt
Snow in New Orleans was freaky looking
yeah
ea
you mean coke molly?
No, the frozen precipitation kind. There is plenty of the other in New Orleans.
phantoms listen, museum, belfry
Seems to be an easy grid.
so far yes..
the L, B , S and u are giving me a bit of a fight
i'm stumped about two of the Fs
Like the magazine, hurshy
i got fo5/24 and then the obvious pair
but idk about the other 2
fo4.9 and 5.20
ah ok thanks
didn't think to try them without the E
5-2-4-4
ru, how was the meal Friday?
'morning, folks (my phantoms are selenium and muesli)
i had those as well, welki!
really interesting... he is a talented chef and a really nice guy.. there must have been 30 bottles of wine opened too
Wow.
he uses a lot of varieties of peppers and pickled stuff to augment his food.. Just the right amount of heat too. he made a bolognese and it was fantastic
ack
ack?
i'm an HSP, my senses are more sensitive than normal, so the right amount of heat for me is pretty much zero. and i hate pickled anything.
what's HSP?
Highly Sensitive Person
oh.
that's too bad you're missing out on a lot of flavor
well, you can look at it either way. i'm missing out on certain flavors, but you're missing out on others. i'm able to appreciate subtle flavors that you might find too bland
he put a lot of nuts in several things so I couldn't eat them though
i have a pretty good palate hursh very well trained. I'm good with subtle stuff too
<--- has no taste. ask anyone :D
anyone done with the lower A?
yes ne
me that is
i'm missing two - any thoughts on what they are likely to be?
one is an old english spelling of butt and the other a an6/18 that's a babblet we have all the time
ok got the 6
howdy folks
hi hokie
Hello
waves to hookie
hi swmbo
one b five is missing for me
oh well i'm missing 2 B so idk if i can be much help :(
The G5’s are all plurals
oh jeez i had the plural
swmbo is in an imaginary world today
Oh! Except one, sorry!
don't forget the bl5, swmbo, that's not plural either
Yes, I was not proofing before sending, sorry
as well as the one ruru just found of course
What can I say? I am an imperfect person lol
just enough fight in this grid to be fun
well the funniest part was the fact that you said G instead of B and we haven't even got a G today
i was v confused by that G/B
have we complained about about the hawaiian goose not being pluralizable?
i thought i was playing the wrong grid
no we haven't
Yes, I know. I hate Babbling on my iPad, I seem to hit the wrong letter often.
ob7 is a silly word
we should tell Dr God to take a gander at it
I complain about it to myself all the time.
maybe it's like fish, where the plural of fish is just fish
ob7? I don't see a b next to an o
he probably wouldn't give a flock though
uh, i meant or7
you're being drakeconian ruru
*ducks to avoid being hit by the flying puns*
confused by this F
Lol
yeah there's an fo4/9 and pl
if I ever got the ne plural on a grid I'd get goosebumps for sure
and phantom tsetse
it'll be a feather in my cap
shut it down, people
oh we bugged hookie..that's the coup de foie gras
I realize my pun was very subtle, but if it walks like a duck..
Honk honk
If we keep it up Hurshy will go quackers
Let’s not ruffle her feathers
agreed... like a wing on a prayer it is
These puns gave me a gaggle
that should be my swan song really I have things to do
i think it's a grebeous error to stop
we're all gosling for positions here
As long as no one cries fowl
Went away to fix breakfast.
it really doesn't cygnetfy whether you stay or go ruru
Ru, I like pickled veg and such. Seems to be a trend in cooking.
that's not the Anser swmbo
you don't need to crow about it
Just trying to feather my nest
i had a late breakfast myself so i'm not raven-ous
yeah bea it seems to be a big deal lately.. i've noticed it.. there's also a lot of nut inclusion that I have to be careful about. I just ate at a restaurant and every single salad and entree had nuts
it's weird that that would be the case when nut allergies have been on the rise in general
What a bunch of bird brains!
I know .. it's a thing out here
we're going to have to send you a bill swmbo
I found out I'm even allergic to almond extract
i should have said beakfast instead of breakfast, missed that one
wow so you really have to beak careful
we had a neighborhood xmas party and there is another lady with celiac, so we always bring stuff and point it out to each other. another neighbor brought 2 bowls of salad and put croutons in both. I told her, if you had just put them in one, then we could've eaten it.
Whoa. My mom can not have corn. She can't even have corn starch.
that's sad, ruru. I love buttercream with almond extract. and I occasionally use almond milk and flour. but other nuts I don't like.
that's a fairly common allergy bea
that's life hokie.. look what you have to go through.. i have it easier than you
bea, my charlotte BFF is like that. she also went gf after her daughter was diagnosed with celiac and so now has to be GF and corn free. corn is in everything too!
with croutons, would you be able to pick them out?
ruru, nut allergies are usually pretty serious
no hurshy
I made a mediterranean salad for my portion of the tasting group and left out the farro because one person is GF... it's not a big deal to make adjustments
people that are GF to be trendy can, but not celiac
I think he's on the edge of celiac so we try to be really careful
well, luckily this neighbor is very nice and was not offended when I told her that. she is now very cognizant of things like that.
i have a friend with celiac and it sucks when like restaurants charge her extra for a gluten free version of a dish
the gf tax is real
$2 extra for a gf bun, etc
My heart goes out to those with dietary restrictions. I have none, I can eat anything but I am a picky eater so don’t like everything.
that's just discriminatory
i haven't got any allergies that i know of either, but i definitely would have puked if i had gone on trying to eat the sauerkraut i was served one time
one time a place messed up and brought me a regular bun. I told the waitress and she left and came back immediately with it on a gf bun. I could tell she just moved it over and I was like, sorry, but they're going to have to make me a whole new one. I actually hate being high maintenance but what are you going to do.
when I cook for people, I always ask about allergies and things they don't like and come up with a menu
I hear you hookie.. if nuts touch anything I can't go near it
Wrong to charge more for gf. There is enough of a mark up on food as it is.
ru, can you sit by a nut eater?
exactly
you are a very considerate host, ruru
Except when it comes to mustard, he is
yes.. I can.. bea.. recently there was a cheese plate and it had marcona almonds on it. I didn't touch it.. and the server said did you change your mind? I said I requested no almonds and you ignored me
wonder if we have any aussies lurking right now. I read early on after my diagnosis that they got like tax breaks or something for gf food.
You don't like mustard, ori?
oh yeah.. the mustard debate
haha, ori. as a mustard hater, I get it!
aussie is in the grid, but it won't take it
The vilest condiment
how can you not like mustard really?
oh, you're right
I don't what it is. I have actually come a long way in my mustard hatred.
My DiL is vegetarian. I have really enjoyed looking for and making meat free dishes. Mind you she is not vegan, I think it would take some real commitment to adjust to vegan.
Whole grain mustard is the bomb.
yeah, our friends we used to camp with had a vegetarian kid who wanted to go vegan but they told her not while she was living with them
I've recently had to cook vegan for a friend recovering from hip surgery the cooking is easy, finding the ingredients is the hardest part
I go to the Maille store every time I'm in pris. they have mustard on tap
*Paris
that's what i need for Ori's next visit mustard on tap
I hate mustard as a condiment you put directly on food, but I have several recipes that have mustard in them and they are fine.
yes, my kid lives in France so I go
I will say it's very annoying that restaurants are more accommodating to vegetarians than to people with celiac. I mean one is a medical necessity and the other is usually a personal choice.
Mustard on tap ... Hell on earth
Ori likes to just be obstinate ...
LOL
yes, I can eat mustard in a recipe now, but not straight on foods.
You can buy lovely stone jars and get refills cheaper
I use mustard a lot in my salad dressings
I have the bruises to prove it too
my potato salad has 1 tbsp of mustard in it and I put it in
always. That;s the emulsifier
The big question is this: do you like mustard on your cooked goose?
Don't make me get the tongs ;D
note to the wise.. don't try to open mustard near ori, she gets violent
Have to go feed the hell hound ... have a good day all
Sounds rather kinky...mustard and tongs.
that spices up the game for sure
I should eat something too
lol it does doesn't it
"Mayo touch you there?"
ah - spices - I just went to Penzeys
I love penzeys
what's sauce for the goose etc
where is one near you rasta?
no penzeys in Nevada - I was visiting my sister in WI
Reno?
I had a delivery of fresh eggs yesterday. Breakfast this morning was so good.
oh nice bea
did they scramble to get them to you quickly?
35 left but I must depart. Thanks for the puns.
bye swmbo thanks for the laughs
penzeys is the BEST and by far too
PB for ruru
oooops
never heard of it
(makes breakfast in the PB anyone want a mimosa?
ME!
fresh oj from my tree.. they're finally ripe enough to juice and eat
cara cara oranges delicious too. my ex said they're the best oranges she'd ever had
organically grown of course..
That's nice. Cara cara are the most delicious. I buy them for mom when they are in the markets.
I have some cara cara in my fridge right now. not from my tree though. My SIL in Jacksonville had orange trees at her last house. They were not cara cara, but they were the best oranges. I think just because they were fresh.
my tree grew like a rocket ship.. it's huge now
there's nothing like fresh picked oranges
I better get going.. have fun with the grid everyone.
need to leave before my stalker shows up
i guess a convent can't be nunless
bye ruru
Enjoy the picnic.
bye ru
and it's not menless if it's raining men
thanks.. I made some cool stuff for the picnic and it's nice out today... sunny but cold
no menuless restaurants either
Nunneries have trouble Hokie filling out multiple choice tests you know.. do you know why?
I've been to some recently. I hate having to use a QR code because I don't like to read things on my phone .
no ruru, why?
they'll usually give you paper if you ask. I worry about the safety of qr
not in the habit?
they get emotional when they check the box "Nun of the above" :D
:D
lol
groan
bye for real now
ooh, found the 8 and 9.
but still no HOET thanks to the F
The one you are missing in the F are the one like the magazine

I tried the magazine. will work around that, thanks.
ok, got 2

There are 3
the 3rd is kinda like the electronic pet of the past

Safe travels, Carla.
Namaste
hello everyone :)
clue for that ae 6, if you are still here bea?
well, I looked it up, nan. it is latin for a shining bronze color or an aquarium fish of the same color.
ends in not them
i tried looking up aquarium fish starting with ae and got nothing.
Also nothing with shining bronze color starting with ae. Hmmm. Help needed. Ty
I even looked at the 7 ae6 words in Knight's babble dictionary, and nothing works.
nm - found it!
Think of the Trojan hero.
He was also a king, and son of Aphrodite.
Helen? Not sure where that fits in ch.
oooh a man. Hmmm. Dont know it
google "son of Aphrodite name starts with ae"
Got it. Ty.
Donty remember greek mythology at all.

ends in 3 consonants
Well, 10 left to go for.
