well, I just heard the dawn battery cannon here in Concord, MA. Expecting 100 thousand people today for the 250th anniversary of the battle of Lexington and Concord and I'm planning not to leave the house lol
That sounds like a very cool thing, if you don't live there. ;)
yep! they shut down all the main roads starting last night at 5
we have passes as residents, but only for the outer roads, downtown is still closed. Most of my friends got out of town
I have a friend that does reinactments here in Texas.
we would have too, but then my father in law would have had to drive in to take care of our animals and that's worse :)
the reenactments are fun
wow...it's early and I didn't even notice I misspelled that!
hehe
Does someone do the Paul Revere ride?
I'm sure they do, up through Lexington
though I guess that would have been the middle of the night. They have lanterns out all along the old battle road
That all sounds very cool. I'm sure as someone who has lived through it for years, the shine has worn off for you. But I would love it.
oh it's never like this. There are celebrations every year but this is CRAZY. just for the 250th
I think they're expecting some dignitaries too
who may or may not be dignified, we'll see
BBL!
I just don't like crowds, that's my problem :)
Well then, get out your tankard and have a blast of ale to the Patriots.
I will celebrate anything that commemorates us kicking British ass.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhq3i4\n1MVVU
hey look, you can watch it live
lol
For those interested, take the \n out of the url posted
oh that's weird
dont blame you Molly, pretty shameful of the \\b
I love it. Get out your fifes, drums and tri corner hats.
lost it of the Brits
we drive past the flag commemorating the British dead every day, I always tell the kids there were no bad soldiers, just wrong sides
That is why people use tiny url here mael. There is something in the script here that inserts /n's in urls. Probably to keep people from posting links to unsavory sites.
and most of the brits were ignorant dregs of society just doing what they were told or they would have been probably shot for insubordination
I have never understood the "we must take over the world" mindset of the British rulers.
thanks molly, I never post any links so I had no clue
sounds good to me!!!!
joking!!
It cost a lot of British lives, especially in The Revolutionary War.
dont suppose the british government had to worry about transporting many home!
What I love about the revolution is that America was vastly outnumbered and they still won.
bit like us in ww2.

here's a link to the actual reenactment. they're showing it on TV lol

good morning/afternoon everyone :)
interesting that you can't uderstand the British colonization policies in the 18C but now you have a pres that wants to take over North America.
Nan, there is a difference between colonization practices and tyranny. And what I find interesting is that what this country was founded on, the rejection of tyranny, is what it just elected back in charge. And I didn't vote for the man and have no use for him or what he's doing.
I think greed has a lot to do with both situations.
that and England had a mad king and you have a mad pres.
Done - hagd everyone :)
cybernan -EXCELLENT ICON !!!!!!
Greed definitely has to do with both situations. I am always amazed at the greedy way England went around usurping countries.
I think in the current global climate, it’s unhelpful to draw attention to the the percieved or actual misdemeanours of any particular nationality. In these unprecedented times, it’s importantant for every right-thinking nation to stand in solidarity with each other & face-off against the bullies.
Exactly. Which is what the people in the American colonies did when they stood in solidarity and faced off against the British bullies. Which is all I said in the first place when the discussion was about The Battle of Lexington and Concord this morning.
Good afternoon, Babblers. :)
Hello Cross. 😊
(((Soodles)))
So!! I see you have retired? You lucky duck. I still have 9 more mortgage payments to make & then I’m Out. That. Door. I hope you & Elegant are enjoying your free time?
as6 anyone?
Remains of a fire, Sugra & males.
No problem at all. You’re welcome.
We are doing well, Soodle. More together time, more "staycations." Nothing wild or crazy, just exploring Canada and taking the relaxing slow; however, the "honey-do" list seems to never end. :)
I dont get that clue for the 8 below.
Oops just got it. Needed the snake.
:)
We have two weeks at a cottage up north on a lake--complete with hottub, then it is a weekend excursion on the Polar Bear Express, then a sunset cruise on the R.M.S Segwun--North Americas oldest operational steamship.
We celebrated our 20th taking the dinner cruise on the Segwun, so I think it is a fine idea to celebrate our 32nd with her this year. :)
Wonderful, Crossy.
Back in the mid-1800's the Segwun used to deliver supplies, medicine and mail to the island, and she is still registered as a royal mail ship, so last time out we set a postcard to ourselves to get the elaborate cancellation stamp. :)
Nice to see you, Scrabby. :)
Fun idea. I am here to relax and find a few more words. My nephew and his 2 boys (12, 10) are here for the weekend. They are watching a zombie movie and I do not understand the interest in zombies.
The Sgwun also berths with a sister-ship--the Winonna 2, but she is much newer having been built in 1911.
Segwun*
My son loves that genre of movies.
I want to resuscitate zombies.
orate
They will rot in the summer, scrabby. :)
rFree clue!
They rot? Then they clearly need medical intervention.
Ty, needed that one. :)
Add an S
Yup, got it as well. :)
I read a short story once, where the world had been overrun by zombies that retained all their memories. Turns out that zombies sex involved literally eating pieces off each other for sexual gratification.
Ugh.
Gave a whole new meaing to the term "eat me." Lol
Haha.
55 left and I am done. See you tomorrow, Crossy.
Have a good evening, Scrabby. :)
i'm sorry i got on here and read crossy post 5:27pm ... if you have read 'the lathe of heaven' i'd be surprised .. strange but interesting take on life
The story is not familliar, wingding, but I shall look it up.
The story I mentioned in in a short story collection entitled "Tales of Sex and Horror. I believe there are four volumes, but I only have the one.
Quite a bit lot of the books in my bookcase are of the horror genre, along with SF, and a smattering of big titles from the seventies and eighties.
In my youth it was victorian horror, and sea stories of all things.
H.P Lovecraft, and Cpt. Marryat on the same shelf made for interesting conversation starters. :)
I know LeGuin, wingding. I once contacted her family for permission to use a paragraph from one of her novels for a story I was writing.
evening, just starting
well, down to 2
