I guess the fun hidden bits would be Dean Village and the water of Leith / going to POrtobello and the beach (ona nice day!). There are trips out into the Firth of Forth and landing on some of the bigger islands like Inchcolm (old monastery) and getting views of the bridges
the whisky experience is great too
we wanted to, but had no time left for the secret places
walk the royal mile too
we did end up on Victoria St (inspiration for Dragon Alley from Harry Potter) for dinner and that was a fun bit
and when it rains, go to the royal scottish museum, its absolutely amazing
yes, that's what my granddaughter said and I was so sad that we didn't have time to
