talismen is a word but not according to this
talismAn worzel. close but no cigar
talismen is the plural and is accepted by Collins dictionary
Google says "The plural of "talisman" is talismans. The word "talismen" is not a standard English word and is incorrect. Merriam-Webster and other dictionaries confirm this"
mi7x2 for when hurshy comes looking
there are some loud cicadas out this morning
or maybe katydid
lol, just realized cicada could be here in the grid. but it's not.
I'm just hearing crickets in the chat

this is a tough grid
I don't care what y'all say
seems ok to me
phantom seismic
finally got to HOET
i'm not getting to hoet on this grid
No, I said we never did that when I was a kid. We were done before Memorial Day and went back after Labor Day.
Back in the day, that was part of the reason for the two long weekends. The first weekend of summer and the last weekend of summer. People lucky enough to have "summer homes" opened them up on Memorial Day weekend and closed them down on Labor Day weekend.

if you mean you are graying them, that's good.
i don't think they were evacuated yesterday, but i'll call later to make sure they're okay. they're resilient folks, having moved there from encino, land of the santa anas and where the earth moves spontaneously
I have only grayed some small ones. E N i on top, i C on 2nd, E on 3rd, N on 4th, and J

hello all. no 8s here. al7/8 or me7/8 please
do you have the me6 that is in between the sides of a highway? add one more letter to the end, and then pl

al is an anagram

ty hurshy

found ai7/8
found ai7/8 ty nan
ntpn: prominent family of Renaissance Florence
medici
was thinking of doing that one myself! lol
***
so is the 9 also ai, or was that just a typo in the original clue, nan?
a typo -- the 9 is a ca
the 9 is ca9/72 ruru clued it earlier
I think Ru's clue is long gone. ca 9 = Nutrient needed for healthy bones + where ore comes from
ty nan
lids
phantom: cicada
should have said most of the nutrient
well i've passed halfway, need to get back to work now i guess, ttfn!
201 down - time for a break
don't remember seeing le8 before
also don't remember seeing mi6/mi7 before (although it was easy to monkey)
te8 also new to me - it sounds very unpleasant
fw for me - good luck, everyone
Can you clue te8
Starts with a number, ends with what you speak into when you need to be heard.
does anyone have en6
Yes...en_me4
thanks, thats fw for me
congrats! I'm almost there...
Thank you all for the great clues. :)
you forgot the SH champ? :D
4 out of six letters is kind of a no-brainer
somehow 6 out of 8 letters is not enough for me though on the te8
i have returned!
hallelujah! :D
I am pretty much stuck with 31 left
SS C OO HHHH M SSS LLLL C D ii AAAA W A TTT in case anyone was wondering
well i haven't even finished my first pass

4-10-10-5-2

well i need 2 more still so
yeah
25 left altogether
see? I said you weren't far off.
well i was more far off at the time lol
but I am multitasking right now and not looking hard. but I have done like 4 passes so don't think I will see anything new.
oh well let me see, i have all the H

bottom A tile has 1 AD, 6 AN, 2 AW
oh, was missing the aw5. TITT
le8 please
I guess that is one of my missing ones. I see nothing.
en8?
plural of en7. flu, covid, common cold are all en7.
??
covid was a pan*, now it's en7.
ty carla
not getting the te8 even with a clue
will not finish will quite soon
yeah, I had to look up the te8 because I couldn't get the middle 2 letters. do you understand both parts of the clue?
I think so
not sure of the middle
trying to think the best way...
I do not see it in my scrabble dictionary
the middle 2 letters are almost how you spell out the letter that spell starts with.
is the number pl in the te8?
no
ok the le8 is VERY weird
I will never find it then
i will try two different ways to clue it
clue v1: if you know the scientific word for the little bit of liquid that sort of rises up at the edges when a liquid is in a measuring cup, or any cup, do the latin plural of that, but reverse the first two letters and stick the L on the front
thanks but not helping.
98 left quitting. may be back later
clue v2: L + dorothy's aunt + monty python's knights who say __ + abbreviation for the field that includes all of biology, chemistry, physics, etc
thanks, had to google the first two parts but got it.
TTFN
you had to google dorothy's aunt?
She had to do a Google search on the knights who say ____?
But it figures the abbreviation queen got that part of the clue
couldn't rem. the aunt. then when I googled I was like, duh.
I know monty python but I don't really know monty python.
But sci, def no prob
i feel like there's a sizeable chunk of americans who do not know monty python, but like, EVERYONE has seen the wizard of oz
what else would sci have been?
i think we all know there are other babblers who would have trouble with even that part of the clue, lol
yes, have seen Wizard of Oz many times, just couldn't think of it.
You are not of the generation who watched The Wizard of Oz every year on it's special TV presentation. It was a big night in kid world back then.
actually i think she is of that generation; that was still going on in my childhood
I think they were still doing that some when I was a young kid. There was no other way to watch it back then.
there were other ways to watch it too though - you could buy it on VHS or tape it off tv when it was on or get it out of the library
That, Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren and the Mary Martin Peter Pan. Great TV nights for me as a kid.
ok, those two we did not have
my dad loooooved that cinderella though
well, VHS tapes were a little later. you are 4 years younger than me I think.
or we didn't have a VCR in my house until later
yeah, but i feel like VHS, well my grandpa actually got a camcorder when i was quite young, he just wanted to be at the head of that curve i guess
Cinderella was Rodgers and Hammerstein, a classic
my family also had a desktop computer earlier than most and i learned a little bit of programming in ye olde BASIC language
first VCR in US was 1977, didn't become dominant until mid-80s.
i think my grandpa got a camcorder in like 82 or 83
okay another free clue: Judy Blume's book "Otherwise Known as Sh6 the Great"
we learned some basic and would run programs on the computers set up in dept. stores.
I always miss that word
well yeah cause it's proper so idk why it counts
because of australia
ah yes, australia! and everyone knows that australia is entirely peopled by criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them...
Cinderella is where I got my first TV crush on Stuart Damon/The Prince who later became Alan Quartermaine on General Hospital
Just like America is totally populated by crazed gun carriers
(mine was a princess bride quote)
(I got it)
do you have both top C's?
well carsla you did not have to do anything to have hoet
You are probably missing the one that ends "sounds like green vegetable that most people don't like"
yeah, it's right there, TO
molly, what's the stat of that one?
ci6/24
ahoy, we caught a big one (hi all)
hey gwen. and thanks, molly.
nbt woot
well, I looked it up. kept thinking of broccoli. wrong green veggie!
Carla must be channeling mkg with no br in the grid
halfway done, woot
you said the end, so I was thinking -li
"back in the saddle again...."
Why?
are you talking to me?
she's probably talking to me but I already said why
No, but this is going nowhere.
I can't see why the vegetable I mentioned would end in li
you said " You are probably missing the one that ends "sounds like green vegetable that most people don't like""
I thought of broccoli. there are c's and l and i in the grid. so I tried to make that work. how hard is that to see?
pen!
carla!
hmm, having trouble with the ca7 after the 9. missing it on best word list too
me, too....
I don't think it's there
well the point totals on lickety and the site are the same....so it must be there....
I guess I will scan the chat
nothing. so how are other people finding it?
no idea....
the first CA 7/36 anyone??....
bueller? bueller?
now it's my last word
nice....37 left here... :o(
I listed with like 24. 2 of them were singulars I know I entered last night.
Oy, quitting with 93 to go. Good Luck y;all
ty...bye, gwen....
it's a slog for sure
bye gwen
only have one ca 7/36 --- the most quiet (think of the ocean)
yeah, not that one. it's directly afer the 9.
finally monkeyed it
ooh...good...
not beginnings is the finish of the word
or ca + give someone money you want paid back
gives
ah, ty....
ty carla
and it is on best words, we just couldn't see it
can you please clue the ai 7?
something wrong with you, like an illness
ty...should have found that one...
al7 is an anagram
yes, i had that one...
i always try ostend....i think it's a city in Belgium...
I kept trying onism
there are two os words...os 5/6...
I am finished, are you telling me or asking for help?
no....but i do need te 8...
it's my last word...
it basically means you have a persistent urge to pee or poop
ends in adj ending of the day
hmmm....
starts with number
that part I know, lol....
it's kinda hard to clue. I ended up looking it up even though i had 6/8 letters
found it....ty...
woot woot
it was indeed a slog...
well i am heading out...thanks again for the help....bye all....
Night, pen
later gator
bea!
Hey, Carla. Did you feel the earthquake?
You watching the US Open?
ca7/36 # 1 pls?
7:10
tnx
when was the earthquake, bea? I saw there's a town in SC that's had like 20 little ones in the last few days.
but I don't know where it is
we are watching a movie
odd word. i to go, and not seeing it
Grrenwood, Sc
yeah, I need to see a map. what's that near?
wow did not hear, did you feel it?
ok, south of greenville, so south of us. 12 in one week, biggest one was 3.0. we have not felt any as far as we know. our street was paved last week and there was a lot of house rumbling from that equipment.
My W and R keys stick orr do not work at all. So frustrating, especially when trying to enter a word.
we felt one earlier in the summer that was near knoxville, and my son felt that one in charlotte.
more recently there was one near hendersonville, which is close to us and people farther away felt it but we didn't.
it's weird how that works.
bea, I've had that and it's very annoying!
even got a new bottom section of my laptop to fix it and the M is already sticking again. the guy yelled at me using it while eating.
Yes, I'm sure that is my issue.
Down to 90. That's enought for today.
yeah, it slows way down
night
