Good morning, Babblers. :) that re 7/40 and 8/55 are a new one for me. Never read it or heard it spoken. :)
Then again, I have never heard etwee, or etui spoken. :/ Just another day in Babble. :)
howdy, crossy, et al
How is Hokie this fine morning?
still waking up, feels like fall outside - it's glorious.
how is crossy?
hello all
hey lindy, how goes it there?
Not too bad. Our dog is recovering nicely, the heat wave has broken and it is glorius outside, and I am on this side of the dirt for another day. :)
Howdy, Lindy. :)
:D
things going ok. one of my dogs has had surgery twice this summer (each knee), and we are 8 - 12 weeks from full recovery. enjoying the cool mornings lately.
in local wildlife news, haven't seen our bear in over a week. have seen 2 dead armadillos on the road to town. I thought they were in FL and GA, but I guess they've moved up. a state forest north of us keeps getting them on trail cams too.
Knees for our pup as well, Lindy. Though he will need the other done as well soon. :(
I forgot where you are now, lindy
south wisconsin
was thinking somewhere in the middle
south and a little west of madison
did you see I did a big trip up through MI and across to Glacier this summer?
oh, nice, I didn't see that
definitely saw some remote places!
remote for sure, and beautiful
yep
the 2025 Hokie world tour?
well, US tour
my poor pup injured his right knee, had surgery, got the "all is well, gradually increase activity" at 8 week check, then on the way home we had a sudden slow-down to avoid hitting a truck and he slipped forward off the seat, injuring the other knee. :(
ugh, sorry
ok, changed my profile pic finally
lovely!
that was after a storm in Ft. Peck, MT
Sorry about you poor pup, Lindy. :(
Sorry to hear about your precious dog Lindy
Here, each operation for our pup will cost $4600.00, including $300 of meds.
thank you. the good news is that he should regain full use of his legs. it's so much better than before the surgery, the biggest challenge is not letting him do too much, so the bone has time to heal.
greetings my puzzlebuddies
Morning, Gwen. :)
yeah, we had a chocolate lab in the 90s that had 3 surgeries for removing foreign objects, and those were like $3000 each. can't imagine what they are now.
hey gwen
it was a bit more than that for ours, but it also included a few days at the "Recovery Stay" where he got some physical therapy, massage, etc after the surgery.
My Bichon will be 18 y.o. in October. We will be lost when he passes.
We opeted for laser treatmets to speed incision site healing, and something where they take the blood, spin it down seperste it and inject it back into the operation area.
it's so hard
Darn typos. :/
it's always too soon
It is hard, Hokie. You get a pet knowing that you will love it, but also knowing that one day it will break your heart.
yep
nbt woot
wahhh, I thought the top E said there were 2 and I found 2 and then realized there are 12.
Bit of good news: our town now has an emergency after-hour vet. :)
nice. we have certainly utilized those in the past. luckily in our new house we are about 20-25 min from one.
well, 71 left and HOET after first pass. BBL.
6 here first pass
had to look up the na 9 though.. very weird word
good morning everyone
my baby started middle school today, sob
Oh my God, how did your kids get that old? I remember when you were pregnant with them.
it's crazy, Molly.
Youngest starts 4th grade
mine just started 3rd.... so many people here remember me from before i was even married!
how did you know there was na9, ruru??
rainqui
who is a genius at this game..
I looked and looked and looked for it.. gave up and looked it up
would you care to hint it for the rest of us?
I remember before you got married eva.. lots of discussions with Haz and the brits
na9 like the planet but with a N + former spouses
I do not, but I was gone for a big chunk of time when my kids were around middle school age.
well you're making up for lost time now hokie :D
youre right ruru -- my parents were english, so the brits are kindred spirits for me.
HOET at last, and 88 to go. time for lunch/breakfast
well, I did not understand that clue except for the end, but then I saw a word from my church upbringing and that was it.
you don't understand EARTH?
well, I did after I saw the word. but N and planet made me think neptune.
for anyone wanting a definition hint, it's the part of a church outside the sanctuary
to be fair, i mentally went through all of the other plants before our own. lol
planets*
I'm going to quit cluing in this game
LOL, I think we just have different minds
'morning, babblers
I give a good clue and then everyone criticizes it. :D
you're too smart for us
it was an excellent clue Ruru
welki!
hi welks how is your aunt's house?
safe, ru. thanks for asking - she said the fire's no where near them
that's good news.. it was looking really bad for a bit there for her area
thank you swmbo at least someone appreciates it
clearlake is just over half an hour from lakeport, in the right direction, i guess
;0
:)
yeah.. but if the winds had picked up.. your aunt would be in a hotel
she's pretty philosophical about earthquakes and fires - at 87, she's pretty 'que sera, sera' about things
yeah.. i hear that.. i'm the same way
i bet i could find two more places to put 'pretty' in that post
I try to make a martini once an earthquake starts, makes it easier to do
i am so grateful that, in all the times i've been to your neck of the woods, i haven't felt the earth shake (except for, well, you know)
ha
i'm old, not dead :D
ha
24 left here - time to get moving. later, all
take care. I need to go too.. have fun everyone
Ty for the na7/52 clue, Hokie. I never would have seen that one. :)
kinda mad I didn't see it
I see a vampire in the grid
hi all. help with corner R. chat says it is an ri6/7 but I do not see them
similar to re6 (not in grid) that can be a slur to people with downs syndrome.
ty carla
sorry, no s in down
ooh, grayed the big T
and the big N
and the H!
well, better walk winston in this weather. 30 left. 1-6-13-8-2. of course it's the 6s.
hello all
phantom: austere
phantom: cluster
agree hursh
hi champ
name that proper noun! CHiPs actor Erik
Estrada! Winner chicken dinner!

I've had phantom adult, cluster, exclude, and austere all day
Yeah...adult was bugging me all morning!
don't forget seclude
yep...
i'm doing real well on T words though! only one more from the left T
oooh got it, Ts Toppled!
GAH!!! I need one there too...
my missing one was normal
but if you are more the type to miss weird ones maybe th5/14
I grayed the N and the T on that row and the H plus some small ones.
Good to know...I have that one hursh.
still need one on the smaller T
you greyed the N? then why am i missing five of them
I do not have the th5/14
well, there's the big church set I was talking about below. and the deli meat set
a lot of adj and comparative adj
i have a lot of adj and comparative adj
i don't know if i have church set or deli meat set, will look back at your chat
I didn't get ru's clue for that one either carla.
Figured it out from your comment.
oh oh i know that word, got the church pair
deli meat, oh not A KIND of deli meat
no
cool that just leaves me one more
my church uses the na word on the regular but the def I read online made it sound obscure
Ours does too.
they used the word at one church i attended, but i think only one out of the many i've attended in my life
at Christmas they would put a Chrismon tree in there. the greeters would stand in there and hand out bulletins. the preacher would stand there and shake hands as people left.
We have the nativity in ours during Christmas. And one of our new priests stands there and greets people before every mass. That's also where we sign in if we're volunteering. Lot's going on in that space.
darnit, I do have the th5/14, so I need a different one
yep, ours had a stand with a guest book too
and the acolytes would wait in there to go light the candles. i did a lot of acolyting in my teens.
I must be a bit older than you. Girls weren't allowed when I was in my teens.
well, you sound catholic. I was methodist, so girls were allowed.
Ahhhhh...yes. I'm Catholic.
i havent been to church in ages, much less the one i grew up in, but i recall that term as well. i grew up Moravian (which most people havent heard of)
I've been to Old Salem, NC, a Moravian village, Eva.
okay, still 30 here. 1-6-13-8-2
a far cry from both of my parents growing up Roman Catholic! basically the opposite end of the spectrum!
D3 L3 C R A2 S6 E5 T E G P3 R3
all I remember is the Moravian cookies. :D
i got less of the cookies + more of the candles.
well, time to get ready for golf. not so hot today, thank goodness.
Hit 'em long and straight!
it’s been cool enough up here that i’ve had the AC off and windows open for 10 days already.
and the cats starting shedding two weeks ago. It’s gonna be a winter here.
normally, the shed in Sep or Oct, not. Aug.
I'm so far away from that! Although to me it's been a mild summer. Much more bearable that 2024.
it’s been an oddly cool Summer here.
agreed, much more bearable than 2024
im actually wearing sweats + socks -- which is typically unheard of until about october!
yeah, i sported shorts and a sweater the other day. In August!
good morning/afternoon everyone :) Another day of 90+F here, then maybe a little cooler next week hopefully
who's got i words? i have in6/21 and in5/12
oh oh i see the others!
in7 & 8 pair!
in5?
no i meant it5
okay
Just finished!
hagd!
still don't have anything from the corner c r or e
synonym for hints from the C
and the e
oh and the r too
guess I just wasn't looking hard enough!
ty seain
lunch time :)
Oddly cool summer in the DC area? No way. It's been hot for weeks up until now. Many days of high heat indexes and dangerous heat warnings.
Certainly the recent temperatures in Washington DC do not look like sweater weather to me (although he was also wearing shorts, apparently, which is a bit weird)
I see that shorts and sweater thing a lot and I don't get it.
I guess it is easier to put on a sweater than long pants if you feel a bit chilly
hi again :)
as7 please?
as + _____ cat in ____ hat + abbreviation for Times Square state
ty molly
definitely would not have come up with that one, thanks
it's been as hot as [insert favorite simile] here.
Nice picture Carla. Did you take that?
yes, probably one of the best ones I've ever taken. took it in Ft. Peck, MT, after a thunderstorm. no filter or any editing, the colors were crazy.
hello all...
pen!
carla!
When I find those after shooting a bunch of pictures I call them my OH MY GOD shots. I only have a few.
cool...i used to take lots of pics....
Finished this one.
I only took 2, and they are both great. The other one has the campsite picnic table in it and the tree is zoomed out more.
congrats!....45 left here...
I have one of a newly hatched baby hawk that I took from 50 feet under the nest that looks like you are sitting on the branch with him
nice bea! 29 here. gonna have to list soon.
very cool!
wow
i have been watching our local osprey nest's web cam....it's been fun to watch them come out of the eggs, learn to fly, and bring home small fish to eat...
when they were born they looked like aliens... ;o)
that does sound fun, how about a link? :D
I love watching birds.
go to rocklandmaine.gov and there is a link on the left...
The bluejays are back for the winter. I heard them calling each other yesterday afternoon.
mr homie said earlier today "there's a falcon in our tree out there". I was like are you sure that's not a hawk? got up to look and it flew away. definitely looked like a hawk to me. I don't even know if we have falcons.
oh, the bluejays never left here.
now they are away a lot....only come to the nest if they are hungry....they squawk for a while....sometimes mom brings a piece of fish that they fight over, but sometimes she doesn't and they fly away....
they are interesting birds....they will leave for Central America or South America sometime in September....the babies will not be back for a couple years when they are ready to mate...the parents won't fly together, but they will both return to the same nest....
sorry...got carried away!
What an interesting nest.
yes...the pole was destroyed in two bad winter storms this year....so in the spring the asst. harbor master scrounged up materials to build a new one....the osprey started moving in within hours....guess they were waiting for repairs...;o)
the white cloth is a recent addition..
wow, that's huge!
well they are large birds...
and there were three babies so it was a little crowded when they couldn't fly....
when they were gearing up to the task of learning to fly, they would hop around the nest and flap their wings...it was very cute!
awww
adults can have wingspans of up to six feet...
not sure I've ever seen one
they tend to make nests near the ocean shore because 99 percent of their diet is fish...
smart
i also have a nest near my place, but i can't really see anything going on there....did find a dead fish near my car last summer....
okay, not seeing the du6,7, and 5 in a row.
my SIL in FL had a bald eagle nest next door. very messy around there.
du 6 i thing of as an adjective....referring to a voice having dj**** tones...sweet sounding....
ah yes, thanks
the osprey are "projectile" poopers...not wise to get tot close to the nest...
found the 5 too
the du 5 starts with the same first three letters....
ok, I do not feel bad about missing the 4 EL words I missed.
i have two...el 6/7...what are the stats of the others?
same
i assumed those two were missed...so there are two sets of those?
got them...ty...
yes, without knowing what either means, I surmise one is an adj and one a verb
LOL, wrong! both are nouns
ah well....not familiar with them either...
what are the stats for the lower left corner R?...
LOL, the new, odd words keep coming. i.e. pe7/8
ri6/21
don't have those....have a 6/7 combo but not those...
ni7/8 please
can clue if you want. I somehow monkeyed
yes please
please...
don't have that Ni combo....
peri, ni7/8 are things that some people don't want in deli meat, treated with a certain type of acid
ty carla
ty, carla...
pe7/8 starts with our favorite flower here (good timing you showed up) + what they used on leave it to beaver a lot (well, ***, beave)
does anyone have pr7/36?
hymmm...will think on that...
yes...old fashioned word....ends with two vowels...
it means please...
hmmm
the vowels on the end are the same...
got it! PS - those are the same two vowels the pe ends wtih
not seeing the pe7/8
are you having trouble with the first or second or both parts of the clue?
got the first part
got the P words....starts with your name....ends with word meaning darn it or a surprise...like *** whiz...
golly *** whiz
thank you both new word for me
it has something to do with space
i actually knew that word....it's the opposite of apogee....
like the nearest point of a celestial body
I am not sure I know/knew what apogee meant. but I "know" it from here.
apogee is when the moon is farthest from the earth....perigee is when it is closest to earth...i think... ;o)
oops.... :oP
:D
alrighty, 6 left, all S
Pen loves to chat words that are in the grid
126 left here another one I will not finish
eh, everyone's done for the day
It seems like every new grid is full of weird ass words we have never seen before
(with regards to pen spilling the word)
it's amazing - how could there still be words we haven't seen after 20 years!!
truly....
i am stalled again....will list....
well there are 2 regular s's that evaded me all day
funny how that happens....
well, stumped on st6/21, my last one
sorry, don't have it..

it is a plural and the 7 is the singular.
Lol. Was halfway through a very convoluted clue for you MKG. Glad you got it.
i cant get the dictuionary so if you can let me know what it says.
an antechamber, porch, or distinct area at the western entrance of some early Christian churches, separated off by a railing
