Was a nice day the other day. Was doing some high energy play with one of the pups. She got excited, pulled the stick out of my hand really fast, and took my thumbnail with it. Do not know what hurts more--my thumb or my toes. Whiskey helps. :)

yeah, my neighborhood is on a mountain and they've always had bears, but we're down in the valley and down here we had quite a bit of activity this sumer.
summer
we had one drag our trash can out of the garage and get a bag out and spread trash all across the yard. we tried making it run away with air horn, leaf blower, golf balls, and car horn. finally got it to run across the street so we could pick up the trash.
it came back as soon as we shut the garage door and still comes around every so often.
but it and at least another different one got in all kinds of garages

We had a raccoon randomly start coming to our back porch sliding door one night, and she'd come back most nights. Unfortunately it turned out she had distemper (we trapped her and took her in because we were suspicious about it)
oh it was. I had a great garage cam video of mr. homie throwing golf balls. do you rem. the classic "lightning bolt" larping video? I did a voiceover of that that turned out perfectly but imovie doesn't like a glitch or something and won't let me do anything with it. my son claims we can figure it out.

we also used to get skunks come around under the bird feeders, they were pretty chill
a couple in boulder (about 15 mins from here) had their dog eaten by a mountain lion while they were out walking
In our area we are up to our armpits in coyotes.

people are convinced here there are black panthers and brown mountain lions even though the states of SC and NC haven't had proof of one in like 100 years

I was in Savannah for a wedding, so we went over to HH to see what we could see
We have a beach area here. It is in seven sections with beach #1 being the nudist beach and where all the college kids party. About six years ago, three nesting pair of a rare piping plover decided that it was a perfect place for hesting. it been closed to the public ever since. :)

Plovers are remarkable in any way, but this version is endangered, so that part of the beach is theirs for as long as they want it.

Yes. I have been fascinated with our resident turkey vultures of late.
And we now have a very robust wild turkey poulation--thanks to Kentucky.
We sent them some white-tailed deer, and they sent us some turkeys. The rest is history. :)
Cannot do that now--tRump would probably tariff the deer. :)

yesterday I saw a deer grazing in my neighbor's front yard and could hear some more in the woods across the street. saw three more in there.
Saw a herd two years ago that had to have had over eighty deer. Never seen one that large in my life.
I saw about 30 turkeys in a flock(?) in a field near our house when I was on a bike ride
I have also never seen more than maybe 10 deer together
It is nice. I can remember in my youth helping my dad set up feeding stations for them because the winters were so harsh.
Nice to see things bouncing back though the higher winter temps are a concern.

luckily I have never seen that

It is not fun. Below minus 40, car tires can develop flat spots. You have to move very slowly until the tire warms up.

Back in the day, when cars had frost plugs it was a pain in the arse.
My dad used to put the coleman stove on low and slide it under the oil pan. :)
