12:33 am

what you smoking Blaze? it's the middle of the night here in Canada. I don't care what coast you are on....

12:35 am

Hi all from Hong Kong - lunch time here.

12:35 am

OOPs 10:30 at night is not the middle of the night....?? especially for the mother of a teenager

12:38 am

ah, but you wrote 13:30 pm which translates to 1:30 pm. Looks like you kissed the double 1 and doubled the 3 instead. Difference of night and day.

12:39 am

It probably would have been very enjoyable if I hadn't gotten my sister to tell me the letters on the grid, written them down, worked obsessively on them while squiring my children around, then called her to enter them in for me. My husband worries for my sanity.

12:39 am

hi from Missouri... game time & my time are the same

12:39 am

my spelling is so bad it's a wonder i get credit for any of my words.........

12:42 am

My other half, the Britsh truckerm (English) only thinks I' made for being hooked on this on the nights he can't join in. Like last night and this morn.:-(((((((

12:43 am

mu5/20, mu6/33 1. A Muslim scholar who interprets the shari’a. 2.Civilian dress, especially when worn by one who normally wears a uniform

12:44 am

Why are people entering definitions right at the very beginning? Way too early for that!

12:45 am

Well, I think I'm going to have to hit the hay. Good night, all!

It is going on 3 AM in Nova Scotia Canada, so I should try to grab some zzz's I am glad this puzzle has fewer words. I find I don't have time to finish the bigger ones...

12:49 am

2nd letters are likewise a little too much help this early. I do like the chat aspect of the game, but it's a drag when words are just given away. Sorry if I sound curmudgeonly, but the challenge is to find words on one's own!

12:49 am

12:51 am

I think you may need a little help Smithchick...pmsl.... I have a spare DIY hug jacket if you feel it would help!

12:52 am

No idea where that message place is purple.

12:53 am

Is that a straitjacket? For the institutionalized?

12:54 am

swmbo - I agree wholeheartedly about the smaller puzzle, Was just looking for mahoot and mahoots, but it seems the elephant keepers have a 'u' properly, not another 'o'.:-(

12:54 am

Thats the one!.....lol

12:56 am

now that i'm playing with a full deck, cna sleep better. 52 for 731.

12:57 am

I do agree with Doogle - I like the chat too, so I would hate to have to hide it, but there are quite too much give-aways lately in an early state of the puzzle. Anyone else playing the beta? I must say I like it!

12:57 am

i am. i also vote for its betterness.

12:58 am

never too early for help ;) I won't get to work on it when I wake up. before I go to bed may be my only chance today.

12:58 am

i found the beta to freeze during chat updates, it truncates messages, it leaves the message n the buffer, and found it somewhat slow.

12:59 am

ok...3am...i think it's time to sleep.

12:59 am

Morning, Sprite! Yeah, the beta does work well <thanks, dr_god!>! The only oddity I've noticed so far is that the message box doesn't clear after you post.

12:59 am

i think it's faster. maybe it depends on your computer. it can be confusing that it leaves the text in the message box, so you could more easily post twice...

1:00 am

I need all the help I can get!...

1:00 am

Hey sprite,enjoying beta too...much better..hows holland?

never too early for help ;) I won't get to work on it when I wake up. before I go to bed may be my only chance today.

1:02 am

I am here because of the beta.... I guess it is okay it's the codes and clues that are confusing me...

1:02 am

Holland is finally getting some summer days, so I enjoy it right now :) That is, after I finished my daily drug, of course - first things first. About the beta: I especially like the speed with which you can enter new words now, not having to wait for the page to refresh. Also the log auto refresh is nice. Some minor glitches still, but it isn't a beta for nothing.

1:05 am

Blaze...it's the letter the woed starts with...how many letters in the word then the points it scores S5/14. hope that helps..

1:07 am

Thanks tbear... that helps lots

1:07 am

Blaze...mothers with teenagers unite!!!!

1:31 am

Sprite...I'm a gardener and love the wet stuff

1:32 am

Well, my young people start school tomorrow, so I guess I better go to bed now, so as not to chew off their sweet little heads in the morning when they are doing everything but getting ready to go. Lol

1:34 am

Lol, good luck then, Smithchick, and good night.

1:40 am

Actually, there IS a word using the X. Always glad such a letter is used, it is too frustrating if it just sits there and does nothing :D

1:47 am

S7/48 - 8/65 combo blurring or softening of sharp outlines in painting by subtle and gradual blending of one tone into another

1:48 am

9:26 am

9:27 am

I'm new to this online game. Can someone explain the clues folks are giving (e.g. E/7/28)? Thanks...Keith

9:27 am

E/7/27; the word starts with an E, has 7b letters and gives 27 points

9:28 am

keith: for example, E7/28 word be a word that starts with E, is 7 letters long, and is worth 28 points...if it were E7/28x2, that means there are 2 of them.

9:29 am

How do you clever people know when you have all the words?

9:30 am

Hey guys, I am stuck on St 5/10 - any clues would be appreciated. (I would love you forever!!)

9:30 am

ginger: early in each days game, someone will usually post statistics (which they find using a different program) those stats will let you know how many words start with each letter and how many are each length.

9:31 am

9:32 am

Thanks for that :)

9:32 am

10:57 am

pu4/8 a wild cat (from Mexico, I believe)

10:59 am

Got 45 words up to now, a distinct lack of R's and S's thpough I have the longer words in both I think!

11:04 am

I've got all the Rs, but I still have only 42 words. I didn't know that the Vatican's smoke signals had a name. Do you suppose that they have a different name for the black smoke signal than for the white one???

11:07 am

jrs, it is an Italian word that means 'smoky'

11:16 am

THANK YOU for the smoke clue!!!!

11:17 am

I must be misspelling it cuz I can't make it fit (the smoke one)

11:17 am

What letter does it end with?

11:17 am

Another clue for the S7/48 - 8/65 combo from Sprite - blurring or softening of sharp outlines in painting by subtle and gradual blending of one tone into another

11:20 am

Has brandyjack posted the length list yet?

11:21 am

it ends with an 'o' in the singular and an 'os' in the plural...

11:22 am

Thanks, swmbo, I was trying to end with an A

11:22 am

I am desperate for the third 'o'. I have the one you feed horses and the one for ancient Rome's port city. Any clues for em???

11:22 am

Excdellent clue, Lupe, thanks!

swmbo, it's something cockney owl might do ;)

11:26 am

Anj, great clue, thanx!

11:27 am

Thank you, swmbo. I'll persevere.

11:29 am

jrs, the first two letters are not two we normally have together in English words. The root of the word is recognisably 'smoky'

11:30 am

Only 41 words and i think i am stuck.....only one r left....but am really stuck on the s7 and s8......

11:30 am

the smoky and blending clues for the s7 have me stumped - fumoso is all i see for the flames and it isn't acceptedand isn't s anyway :-S

11:31 am

Mish...for the F, try overcome by the ..... from the fire, ..

11:32 am

Thank you, swmbo, that was perfect. Your 3rd 'o' is a Scottish variant of the horse food.

11:32 am

i have the f - the s7 is what i can't get

11:34 am

I cannot find the S7..the blending of lines, etc..

11:37 am

I cant believe it but I have got it...a word beginning wiv sf how weird is that??

11:37 am

mishmu, the 'fum' part is right. Try putting the letter in question before it. The last part of the word sounds like the red fruit/veg you put into spahgetti sauce

11:37 am

couldn't be any clearer than that!

11:39 am

1:27 pm

Solky, plural of your last mo4/6 should do it :)

1:27 pm

annie if you google "plant slugs like to eat" you will find it...you have to read down a little in an article about why slugs are bad for your garden and it will jump out at you...look under the part about the common garden slug in the article titled "ugh..slugs"

1:27 pm

absoluteannie ho5/18, a swarm.

Silky, i'm going blind as well...! Damn, this body needs an MOT.

1:32 pm

the ta's are black sticky stuff with an 'h' added in the middle, a city in new mexico, and the plural of __-o-shanter (i couldn't think of another way to describe it)

1:33 pm

chris p sorry i missed that you specified values...the one you need is in new mexico

1:34 pm

to4/5 is a slimy amphibian reputed to cause warts

1:34 pm

Ok, you can have a city in New Mexico, but not a state Northwest of it. Too bad....

1:34 pm

to4/6 is male turkeys

1:35 pm

kolding...i'm guessing the city in new mexico must have a common definition like maybe it's a plant or cactus or something

1:36 pm

Chris P - there's an si5/10, st5/10, st5/12, and st5/14...which one are you missing?

1:37 pm

Hi llama - it's the si5/10

1:37 pm

This message is for those who are currently testing out the beta Babble site. I've made a slight change to the chat log add form. I noticed that messages were sometimes getting posted 2 or 3 times. I've made it so that the "Post Message" button disables itself while the message is being posted to the server so you can only click it once. I hope this fixes the problem. Let me know how it works for you guys. And keep those comments and bug reports comin'!

1:38 pm

it seems like some people must be using dial up connections because their responses happen in an untimely manner. i'm on a t1 line so when i hit enter the screen refreshes within 2-3 seconds.

Yegods, I found it, it wasnt the plant one, it was the alternative spelling for collecting stuff, just couldnt see it, thats me done, cheers for all the help

1:38 pm

Dr_God, the problem is the message box does not clear once posting is done.

1:39 pm

ok, the cooked pig has got me..ugh..

1:40 pm

think easter cooked pigs

1:40 pm

chris that one's hard to describe. at a restaurant the maitre d will ___ __ down. Or if you prefer there's some greek guy _____ Andronicus or such but change the first letter to s.

1:42 pm

Zade- I also fixed it so that the message box clears itself when you post a message.

1:42 pm

ooh and it seems like the greek guy's name is also the title of a shakespeare play, again you would change the first letter to s

Dear Dr god, please put the "Jump to the top" option back at the bottom of the page, oh and good work on the site

1:43 pm

absolute annie- Oops! Forgot to add that back. I will do that right now.

Chris, instead of turkey, think male cats :)

1:45 pm

oooooooooooh..i was thinking the cooked pig was some exotic or archaic word...LMAO..i already had it..ty, so much.

1:46 pm

the male turkey one could also be Mr. Hanks and Mr. Brokaw

1:46 pm

Chessy - thanks. I must have looked at that one a million times!!

2:20 pm

ferrari - sf7 and sf8 - the plural is the name for the smoke when the new pope has been declared. Look on ask jeeves - worked for me.

2:21 pm

lalobstah: S7 looks like one of those words that shouldn't be a word! Nevertheless, here's the definition ala Google for it: "a term coined by Leonardo da Vinci to refer to a painting technique which overlays translucent layers of color to create perceptions of depth, volume and form." S8 is the equally nonsensical plural of S7.

2:21 pm

lupe. i'd seen that one before. it means nothing to me. sorry.

2:21 pm

Think R2D2 and C3PO with a minor change bubblehead can you help me with the dh's?

2:28 pm

kristin, type the def. into google and it'll come right up. I am clueless on the plant clue for the 2 E's... any further help?

2:28 pm

Chip: CLue for the H4: Another word for a practical joke. Most recently, think of the "runaway bride's" story.

2:30 pm

the end of the S7/48 - 8/65 rhymes with a red veggie used in italian sauces

2:30 pm

Nevermind... got the E's. :)

2:30 pm

Chip: Clue for the dh's; They are two variations of "a loincloth worn by Hindu men". Add an "s" to get the plural of each.

2:30 pm

Judi - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

2:31 pm

I guess I'm to never find the x word. I have the h4, but not the one that begins with x

2:32 pm

fit1, it ENDS with x not starts with it

2:32 pm

fit1 - it ends in "x" starts with "h" and is 4 letters

2:32 pm

Google is my new best friend! Thanks for the tip!

2:33 pm

thanks Judi (though how you knew what the term for a hindu loincloth is is a mystery) any hints for c4/8 I've plugged in all combinations I think give me 8 pts and none work

2:34 pm

Chip: C4: Think french pancake without the "R".

2:35 pm

Chip: An English term for "idiot who doesn't see the obvious"

2:36 pm

I've finished, so I'm going to leave now. Taking my vast wisdom and knowledge with me (I assure you, it fits in a very small purse).

Can't really access the new beta version. When I go to open it, I get little boxes floating up that ask me if I want to debug. Lots of little boxes. Over and over. Can't play it.

2:38 pm

Christy6543- What browser are you using?

9:57 pm

10:18 pm

any ideas on the os5??

10:28 pm

help, em?

10:30 pm

os/h An ancient city of west-central Italy at the mouth of the Tiber River

10:34 pm

that o5 is also the plural of any of the pores in a sponge

10:41 pm

mo4-- have: fixed in place, surround castle, many more, witty remark

10:44 pm

lbd: you missed the mo4 that grows on tree trunks

10:44 pm

Excellent!! have os! thanks!!

10:45 pm

Morning all from the early hours of England :)

10:50 pm

Sandbox! *beating head on brick wall!* thanks! 4 more! st5...have hole in throat, and wharf or knight.

10:51 pm

hi all... should i sleep... should i try and complete my list of babble words? decisions decisions... lol... i guess babble won

10:51 pm

also stuck on the em4!!

10:54 pm

any clues for the da5/1? pls...!

10:55 pm

it's ok... got it... :-)

10:58 pm

lbd: your st5 is the plural of an st4 cathy: your da5 is the plural of da4

11:00 pm

cathy22, plural of da4/5 mich...em4, very elusive for me too

11:04 pm

nice to know I am not alone!

11:04 pm

em: not a bird, but close. Plural.

11:04 pm

haven't got the da4 or da 5 either!!

11:06 pm

lbd: try my 2:09 pm clue for the em4

11:08 pm

I'm surprised today's puzzle DOESN'T contain the "small buffalo" word.

11:08 pm

Off to work now...83/1018 is best I can do.... Take care everyone, hope you all have a great weekend :)

11:08 pm

da4 & 5 is the singular and plural of Malayan royalty and as previously stated is the anagram of a t4 that croaks

11:14 pm

guess it would help if i knew the band...*shrug*

11:19 pm

lbd: here's a clue that you will probably get... it's the waves that will wreak havoc on electronic equipment? makes them stop working...

11:19 pm

A big flightless bird. Change last letter and add s. What is it? I have no idea.

11:23 pm

the e4 is what you get out from a battery, not a nuclear blast. It's an electromotive force, not an electromagnetic pulse.

11:26 pm

oops! thanks brandy for the clarification

11:28 pm

got it, two more...st5, and ta4 not the hole in throat, or wharf. not the hat or the city in New Mexico.

11:33 pm

which st/5? there's the greek porch, the surgical opening (not in the throat) and the games room/wharf.

11:35 pm

the ta/4 is likely the goat like Hemitragus from asia.

11:35 pm

lbd: your st5 is the anagram of the plural of the Greek Letter that also means a small amount your ta4 is a hairy goat that sounds like something that you use to pave a road

11:36 pm

greek porch is st4, have the other two tho.

11:39 pm

the st/5 is the plural of the st/4. Or at least that was the nearest I could get to it. Note that things aren't always pluralised with 's'....

11:45 pm

Looks like I was slightly wrong. The St... of ancient Greek memory were the porticos of the Agorà, which housed the workshops of the artisans of 5th century B.C.

11:45 pm

any help out there on the Ds? I have 3 DH words, 2 DA4 and 1 DA5. What am I missing?

11:46 pm

whoopie! thank you BrandyJack and Sandbox! Love you both! my eyes are boggled and my brain is fried! great hint about the plurals! hugs to both of you! and many many thanks

11:48 pm

i am now done if anyone needs some last minute help!

11:49 pm

you need one more dh word and 2 dr words. one dr being the plural of the other

11:49 pm

cathy22w - look down a couple of messages for my plea for help on the Ds.

11:49 pm

Dianne, dh's check for plurals, and weird spellings. Da5, make it singular

11:50 pm

I still need the MUs that aren't flowers or parents

11:51 pm

pluralise one of the dh words you have.... add an extra vowel to the middle of the dh word, if it doesn't already have two of the same in the middle. if it does - take one out!

11:52 pm

you're missing a DH (dialectical spelling of the same item of clothing) and two DR's (singluar and plural) that are similar to the A6/21

11:52 pm

mu - A Muslim scholar who interprets the shari’a.

11:53 pm

brandyjack has the best explanation for the dr words... remember they are D words... not A words...!!!!

11:53 pm

Thanks Cathy - finally got them after hours of trying

11:54 pm

From last night: At 12:43 am brandyjack said... mu5/20, mu6/33 1. A Muslim scholar who interprets the shariâ??a. 2.Civilian dress, especially when worn by one who normally wears a uniform

11:54 pm

that's a relief, cbr!!!!

11:54 pm

cathy22w & brandyjack - thank you - got um!

11:55 pm

great, dianne!

11:58 pm

Oh, the hemitragus. Why didn't someone say so earlier. I kid. Thanks sand and jack.

11:59 pm
