Hey debs, did you join? I'm not clever enough to figure out how to do those nifty little icons. Bummer.

12:15 am

can you see the stats now? mine says they are still being generated. getting very sleepy here, too.

12:16 am

Mine aren't showing up yet either.

12:17 am

j6/39

12:17 am

okay, thought maybe it was just me. I haven't figured out the icons yet, either. haven't really tried, but if I do, I'll tell you how. :-)

12:18 am

No haven't yet.... might do later.. Can you put your own icon in or do you have to choose from some available?

12:18 am

if you have a digital pic, you shrink it to 48 pixels by 48 pixels and then upload it.

12:19 am

how do I upload a pic?

12:20 am

Hi, babblers... Not sure who asked, but I'm not in the Katrina Zone. Lots of sympathy for those who are. I work at a gas station/convenience store. Gas prices are all out of control 'cuz of the hurricane. Makes for some very long lines at work.

12:20 am

Thanks brandyjack. Since the stats aren't ever gonna come up on the other thing, thanks for those, too.

12:20 am

you have to go for babble pro, then you update your profile.

12:20 am

So that's a pic of you Brandy?

12:21 am

it is indeed....... I edited out the part showing the ship foundered on the rocks.... heheheh.

12:21 am

hey cat2, just outside the katrina zone, have 8 friends staying over from New Orleans

12:21 am

cat2: our gas went up .30 since yesterday. glad you're not in the zone. looks absolutely horrible.

12:22 am

t/6 27

12:23 am

Very nice.... Not so sure I'd want to put my pic in!..lol

12:25 am

hokie carla... ours went up .15 and will go up again in the morning. We are generally least espensive in town, right now we are really low to everyone else. That's why all the really long lines.

12:26 am

two subatomic particles so far l6/24 p4/6

12:26 am

mtnjock... you're a good friend. sounds like it's going to be some time before they can return to N.O.

12:28 am

Much tougher grid than yesterday's, isn't it? I have trouble finding good endings.

12:29 am

well, it's kinda smushed, but got my pic.

12:30 am

They're only ever found in fairy tales chick!

12:30 am

yep, this is a tough one. I've got a few 5/14s, but that's the highest I've found.

12:32 am

LOL debs! No, I have nothing above 5 yet either, feel really thick today ;)

12:32 am

Huh? Are we talking stats here debs? My brain is seriously sleep-deprived. It isn't computing. Must have sleep!!! Night all. I'm sure I'll be back in the morning while browbeating my children into getting ready for school.

12:33 am

Cya Chick... sweet dreams... x

12:34 am

Sleep well, smithchick!

12:35 am

hows my puppy for my buddy pic brandy and thanks for encouraging me to be a pro member. I am thoroughly addicted

how long does that prouser stuff last? eternally?

12:36 am

BRandy, do I get to call you cappy? (Big Brother american 6 ref)

12:37 am

p7/36, best i can do right now

12:38 am

alright, my brain has stopped functioning & the kids will be waking me up in about 6 hours, so I will say good night! Hopefully the stats thing will be working when I come back tomorrow, cause that looked pretty cool.

12:42 am

e6/39

12:44 am

thanks cat2...they know they're welcome is always wanted. I have worked for him and he for me. I worried about them when bourbon street flooded as he manages a bar there. Where are you at?

12:45 am

hokie carla, you from VA?

12:46 am

l7/28

12:46 am

i'm in southwest missouri not far from Branson. Katrina's land trek missed us since it went more easterly.

12:47 am

Memphis here, cat2. I like branson, originally from South Bend, IN... done with the I's

12:48 am

no I 7 if I have the 2 I's

12:48 am

or is that L7

12:52 am

I have one 6 now... pathetic!

12:55 am

Blech. I'm going to stop at 70 and hope for smarter eyes tomorrow <g>.

12:56 am

doogle dont stop now...

12:59 am

Sleep well, doogle... you need very smart eyes for this one!

12:59 am

Rats, I stayed up late to try out the new stats panel. Hope it's working in the morning!

1:01 am

Not in my morning anyway.

1:03 am

Okay, found the P7 and L7... this grid makes me feel very i5/14.

1:03 am

hi sprite, glad to see you here again! enjoy your day while I sleep :)

1:04 am

Sleep well and come back with inspiration... we will need it today! ;)

1:04 am

mtnjock... i'm orig frm Kansas ...i've wanted to visit Memphis, but have only driven thru 2 & frm FLA. Is that an I7 or an L7?

1:04 am

It's an L7. Let's use lowercase i's, eh?

1:06 am

good idea krys10 :)

1:08 am

If there is an i7 in this grid, I am willing to eat it... but since I have 2 x i and none is 7 letters long, I don't think I have to worry.

1:08 am

got it!

1:12 am

cat2, you are welcome in memphis anytime... I may be an original yankee... or carpet bagger as they call me here, but you are welcome.

1:12 am

Any help on the Cs, anyone? Have 4/6 and 5/14 and can't think of any more possibilities. You know you're in trouble when words like "cawate" are starting to look promising.

1:14 am

It's a C6 which I think is a kind of fungus. Funny vowels. Trade you for clues on the 7's you have?

1:15 am

got an L7/28... still no luck on the L6/24 yet

1:15 am

Somebody told me not to stop, so I didn't. Now at 78 and willing to stop (sound of Doogle stumbling away from desk). Memphis is great! Happened to be there a few summers ago, serendipitously catching the 25th Dead Elvis Parade. Spent some lovely afternoons at the Rum Boogie Cafe. Lots of great music in that town.

1:16 am

For the L7 think catty. The P7 is a verb for 'place in a prone position'. Thanks for the C6-clue, I go hunting!

1:17 am

doogle I played that parade, as well as had a grand time that weekend... sorry I didn't know you then... I am the same email at yahoo if you'd like to chat....

1:19 am

Thanks Sprite. Both words I have in the back of my brain somewhere. Tired! Going to bed really now!

1:19 am

Cool - will write soon, mtnjock. What do you play? I'm a sax player and managed to do just a little jamming while I was in town. Ever catch the Gabe & Amy Show?

1:20 am

many a time... stand up bass, jazz cello and some

1:20 am

do we have to pay to test out the new stats panel? I can't find how to see out without going through the pay-your-money page ...

1:21 am

some vocals... I hate vocals.... have to be in my range. ;)

1:21 am

p7/36x2

1:22 am

Found it, Krys10! Know more about fungi now than I ever will need. It refers to an aecium in fungi in which the spores are formed in chains and not enclosed in a peridium. Right. And an aecium is the fruiting body of rust fungi, which bears chainlike or stalked spores. Sure. Your clue for the funny vowels made me try crazy words until one was taken :D

1:25 am

l6 is 1/100th of a drachma. :) science is funny sometimes.

1:27 am

That 2nd P7 is strange... can only find references to the plural. In singular it looks more like something you need to write to all the lifes of a cat.

1:42 am

Sprite - excellent clue. Got it right off with that. ty

1:43 am

:D yw

1:52 am

sprite - great clue for the 2nd P7 thanks. How about thinking up one of those for the 1st P7? Please.

p 7 hills, common to Italy and UK

2:16 am

Stats aren't showing for me yet... says they are still being generated!!!!

2:18 am

This is sooooo slow!! 15 seconds for each word to register.. Im tearing my hair out. How do I go back to the old one?

2:33 am

don't remember last time I had soo much trouble finding words

2:34 am

2:35 am

4:18 am

Spoke too soon - found the 6th J4/11 but I am still missing one J word.

5:41 am

Sorry to all my Babble Pro users who have been trying to use the new Stats panel in the past few hours. Had a little glitch, but it's been fixed now.

5:52 am

Any hints for the 2nd P7? I have the writing+number one.

6:00 am

Morning everyone! I sure missed you all these past few days while I was working! And look at all the changes to Babble!

6:02 am

Morning Jen. Words haven't changed though - still as mean as ever!

6:03 am

Hi everyone. Just finished getting ready to go back to work tomorrow, so I've now got the day free to Babble! I'm printing it off and going to sit in the garden and enjoy the sun! See you later.

6:13 am

Hey, I'm in the puzzle :) Never though of myself as an A3/10 before :D Afternoon All!

6:14 am

Dr_God... I have nothing on my stats page!!! Had the barber pole but nothing at all now!

6:17 am

Hi A3/10! lol, hadn't noticed that actually :) Getting an early start today?

6:18 am

Dr_God, The stats page causes the word list to disappear with no obvious effect. Exept that if you scroll down to the end of the chat log, lo and behold, there is this little tail thingy hanging off the end with all the stats in it.

6:18 am

Anj... I had that icon earlier ... I changed it as it wass ending some of us (including me) dizzy with motion sickness!!!! ;)

6:19 am

Hi Lola - have to go walkabout in a mo, so getting some words in early. How's your day?

6:20 am

Thanks BrandyJack... found the stats where you said!!! Weird place for them and its poisitioned in the URL too!

6:20 am

Yeah, I've got to scoot just now too so thought I'd make a start while toddler eats lunch :)

6:21 am

I don't think it's supposed to be there. It is way too inconvenient. I spent all day yesterday wondering when that button was going to do something constructive and having to reload babble everytime I hit that button.

6:22 am

Ginger, It's a bit psychedelic, but then again so am I :)

6:22 am

Anj - just wait 5 mins and it will do your eyes in!

6:23 am

I think I have an idea why it's done like that..... the url gives a clue... the word list is #top and the stats #bottom... I wonder if this is a design issue to stop them colliding?

6:28 am

brandyjack- I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the whole stats/word list/little tail thingy. The Stats panel and the Word list should both show up right next to the puzzle, but only one at a time. They are toggled back and forth by click the "flip to" link.

6:28 am

Nope. Have use scroll bar to see stats. I can see the stats at the same time I am writing this message.

6:30 am

Ahhhh. I gotcha. Yeah. There does seem to be a problem with IE 6 for Windows at the moment. I'll fix it right away.

6:30 am

Dr God, they are vertically aligned OK, but appearing to the right of and just below the jump up/hide log link at the bottom of the page

6:31 am

off to get a root canal..... oh frabjous day....

6:36 am

good luck brandyjack!

6:37 am

Ok, Stats Panel Users. Refresh your pages and let me know if the Stats panel is where it should be - next to the puzzle.

6:38 am

Ah, the pleasure of novocaine. Hope it goes OK.

6:39 am

Bingo Dr God :)

6:41 am

It may still need some tweaking, because the width of the Stats panel is variable depending on the totals for the day. So if it gets too wide again, the panel will pop down below. If it does, just let me know.

6:46 am

Can someone give me the beta babble address - got the fast version at home but not here in the office !

6:47 am

http://beta.playbabble.com/890#bottom :)

6:48 am

hey Anj, are you going to stop spinning soon cos I am feeling a bit green :(

6:50 am

How's that?

6:52 am

that's great anj!

6:55 am

Gingewr and Anj spinning in unison - am seeing double now :)

6:56 am

are we still spinning to you????? I changed and so has Anj!!!

6:57 am

Tales a little while to refresh sometimes. I had to f5 to sort mine out

6:57 am

I'm mad!! Hubby won't let me upgrade right now!! :(

6:58 am

o.k. I am missing one T and one R - any hints please? R 4 x 6 R 5 x 3 T 4 x 11 T 5 x 2 T 6 x 2 Many thanks!

6:59 am

that is really strange, I will try logging out and come back in again thanks both! Ginger you had changed earlier but are showing back again?!?

7:01 am

wendrie, you need one more R4

7:03 am

thanks Gwen - realising I'd missed a little one made me go over my list again. Found it :) Still missing a T however... but on to the Ps :)

7:05 am

wendrie, one more T4, too

7:07 am

morning fellow babblers.... got c6/30 but will not accept....?any ideas?

7:08 am

thanks again Gwen - weirdly I thought I'd put both those 4s in but they weren't one my list. Got 'em both now though - thanks again :)

7:14 am

J4/11 x6, J4/13 x1 and J5/30, what is missing :o(

7:14 am

moozey j6/39

7:15 am

thanks sweetie

7:16 am

My pleasure.

7:16 am

stats are great but they are missing how may words of each letter!

7:16 am

Ginger, that's above the grid in mine. Hi Moozey :)

7:17 am

Can anyone help me with my last J? It's the J5/30... is it jo or je? TIA!

7:17 am

think I may need to invest in pro-babble so I know what you guys can see. Hey Anj how you doing this bright day??

7:19 am

a9 , c3 , e4 , i2 , j9 , L10 , m5 , n11 , o5 , p28 , r10 , t16 , w5.

7:20 am

A-ha! So you've got the sun. I've got cloud here. Lots of it. In fact, if anyone needs cloud come to Bristol. Apart from, everything is abnormal as usual :) How about you?

7:20 am

oh nice, I just cut and paste them into Word and have them to the right of my babble screen

7:21 am

The grid is useful. Even shows which letter the words start from

7:22 am

London is glorious and I want to go for a walk along the Southbank but have meetings back to back all day, next one starts in half an hour and I need to feed my face and play a little babble. Oh well roll on home time :o)

7:22 am

Up and awake and just finished! I like the stats panel tool - makes the search for those last few much faster...

7:22 am

does it amend the stats as you get them?

7:23 am

yup, and teh word you just entered blinks in the grid for a second so you know which one you found.

7:23 am

Yup, all real time too. I'm using that instead of the word list for now.

7:24 am

Nevermind... got it.

7:24 am

well it is worth going pro just for that one function

7:25 am

sorry Jen missed your post, glad you found it though

7:26 am

It's well useful. Right, I have to get busy so I will catch you all later. 'Bye for now :)

7:26 am

byeeeee

7:29 am

do you have to log out of regular babble in order to log in to beta? it wont accept my login info...

7:29 am

yes you need to log in again

7:29 am

evanadine- You don't have to log out, and the log in info is the same.

7:30 am

Anj... on mine there is the grid which I assume shows how many times each letter is used and above that is the word lengths. WHat I mean is missing is the list of how many words begin with each letter or am I misreading the grid in some way?

7:30 am

GingerUK- The grid indicates how many words start with each tile.

7:31 am

hey dr god....is the cost of $9.99 per annum?

7:31 am

ahh, got it now. thanks dr_god

7:31 am

OOPS <blush> I thought it was how many times each letter was used <blush>

7:32 am

rolin- The cost is $9.95 for life.

7:33 am

life??...oooooookay...hopefully more than an annum...lol..sounds like a good deal to me..

7:34 am

8:06 am

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem with the grid, being that I can't understand it! Can anyone help? The white part below the letter is how many words left, right? And the shaded part..? How blonde am I!?

8:07 am

Thanks Wendrie - i made hard work of that one!

8:13 am

JaxxY- The grayed-out numbers on the bottom are the total # of words that start with that tile. The white numbers above them are your current totals.

8:14 am

Ahh! Makes sense now. Cheers Doc God.

8:24 am

Linda0,en5/10.

8:30 am

I am not seeing either of the i words!!

10:29 am

Evandine: if that's the case, I'm missing the O6. I have found the others. They are, in case anyone is wondering: 05x3 and 04.

10:30 am

Judi - add a letter to your ol5/10 to get the o6... can u help with the other o5 I'm missing? Have oa5 and ol5... Thx

10:34 am

Bugzy, you need OR5/10

10:35 am

mtnjock- I will be adding a little help are for the stats soon.

10:36 am

Bugzy: The 3rd O5 starts with Or... meaning to lecture or give a lengthy speach.

10:36 am

Bugzy - the or5 you are missing - formal way of speaking. Can I have a clue to the o4 please from anyone?

10:36 am

this isn't easy today is it!!!!

10:37 am

O4 - another name for margerine...or like a misspelled cookie. ;)

10:37 am

Thanx FMitch -- For the o4, think butter or margarine.

10:38 am

10:41 am

FMitch- The double-posting is a bug I'm working on. Rest assured, it's not being posted twice, just *showing up* twice. Just refresh to get rid of the doubles.

10:42 am

The stats boxes are the grid laid out with how many times you used that letter...

10:46 am

your grid and your stats are in the same order.

10:46 am

10:54 am

mtnjock- The stats panel shows how many words start with each tile. A few others have thought the same as you did, however. I'll have to do a better job of explaining the Stats panel.

3:20 pm

Edmo, the pi6 you need is an isomeric terpene liquids used as a solvent and in making resins according to the big, bad dictionary. Think cone tree with a dutch ending if that makes any sense...

3:41 pm

Yeah!!! done!!! anyone need any other lists?

3:41 pm

mtnjock, I'd love a list of a's. With the icons, finding the lists is a little harder.

3:46 pm

Yay Baggo! The seizures have stopped.

3:47 pm

Today's word list reads like a register of video game bad guy names. Weird stuff...

3:48 pm

I am so sorry Doogle!!! and this one isn't the picture that i wanted but it's gonna have to do!

6:00 pm

thanks Dr_g-d ! much appreciated! dont want to look like a plonker on here now do i!?

6:00 pm

dwroehl, it's the 't' just below that 'r'

6:05 pm

Ok, Babblers. There's now a 1000-character limit on chat log posts. This should give even brandyjack more than enough room for his long stats posts. ;)

6:06 pm

Brandyjack - if you're still online -- thanks for the breakdowns --- especially after your 'visit' with the dentist!! Hope you feel better & heal up quickly!!

6:07 pm

hey, soup is good.....

6:19 pm

Any hints on the ae 5/10? These A's are kickin' my bottom!

6:20 pm

there is no ae5/10.....

6:21 pm

Thanks BrandyJack, I was looking at a post from Debluvsmusic, gosh .... my babble-brain is hurtin'! :-)

6:22 pm

a bit of monkey typing should get most of the 'a's ac 4 6 ae 4 4 an 5 10 an 4 4 an 5 10 ar 5 14 ar 5 10 at 5 10 aw 4 7

6:23 pm

i posted the compleat 2 letter breakdown at 4:15pm

6:26 pm

yes, brandyjack, I saw that. Thank you. Enough people having trouble with the a's, it helps to have a break-down in order. Especially this late in the day.

6:33 pm

Okay, I know I'm gonna feel like an idiot, but I'm obssessing over this darn an4/4... help!

6:36 pm

I'm missing a pe6/24; I have the fuel and much fruitless monkeytyping. Any clues, please?

6:37 pm

Jera -- don't feel foolish, it's obscure: a small buffalo of the Celebes having small straight horns.

6:38 pm

melissamay, pe6/24 The ball used in jai alai

6:39 pm

Thanks much, Gwen!

6:41 pm

Thanks, melissamae... I knew I'd seen it in previous puzzles.

6:43 pm

Dr_God: I got all of my problems sorted out and the site is just grand THANX!

6:44 pm

hi guys! This is hard. 32 words. that's abysmal... : (

6:46 pm

6:49 pm

6:56 pm

Babbler- thanx found it

6:56 pm

bragger. lol

6:56 pm

innit !! : D

7:01 pm

For any Babblers still not quite sure of how the Stats panel works, refresh your browsers and click the "need help" link under the Stats. I've made a little helpful diagram.

7:06 pm

Way to go with the 1000-character message limit, Doc God!

7:21 pm

I just fixed the Stats panel so that tiles with no words are grayed out automatically. Refresh those browsers for the change to take effect.

7:22 pm

Thanks for all the cool new stuff, Dr. God!

7:24 pm

Evening/Morning/Afternoon - depending on where in the world you are. 16 words left for me to find. Thanks for the new stuff Dr_God but how do we in UK pay you? Incidentally, any chance of a starburst or a round of applause sound when we reach target?:-)

7:25 pm

By the way, Dr_God, I hope you've thanked the UK's Mail On Sunday for the plug in their mag about 3 weeks ago! LOL.

7:26 pm

Jacula- You pay the same way as Americans. Just ask the Google gods what the current conversion rates are and calculate how much 9.95 USD is in the UK. As for the fireworks when you finish the puzzle - I'm working on it. ;)

7:27 pm

Jacula- I wish I could get my hands on a copy of that issue of the Mail. I still haven't seen it.

7:29 pm

Oh Dr_God, if only you'd said that a couple of weeks ago I could have e-mailed it to you! Unfortunately, the mag went into the recycling box a fortnight ago. Might still have the bit I tore out in the shredder back though. Will look later today, if that helps?

7:30 pm

Yeah, if anyone can get their hands on a copy of it, I'd love to see it.

7:31 pm

Dr. God... are you retired from ZZ Top????

7:31 pm

BrandyJack - If you're still there, I hope you're feeling better after your trip to the dentist. Your wallet won't be but I hope YOU are.

7:31 pm

I kept it for a couple of weeks...... I put it down when I saw the feature and it was ages till I picked it up again!! It's gone to be recycled now, unfortunately. I think you can request a back copy from them.....?

7:33 pm

Basically, Dr_God, if gave a brief description of Babble as a 'complusive' word game and the web addy, as I recall.

7:33 pm

homemade soups, Brandyjack!! make them organic and you'll adore them! Hope you feel better soon! : D

7:33 pm

*compLUsive? My typing's gone to pot!

7:37 pm

inga8227- Retired? No. Still rockin'. ;)

7:37 pm

Hey, Dr_God, if you want to make lots of hard work for yourself re making a fireworks display or a round of applause for the finish you could get each of us to e-mail you a sound file of us cheering and then sort through all the mails to amalgamate the cheers into one big 'real' Babbler's cheer.:-) *ducks in case a boot flys out of the monitor*

7:38 pm

Was canned soup. Cream of tomato. Wish I had my grandfathers recipe for soup. was a vegetable and mystery meat concoction. My pocketbook is nearly dead. 2nd of 3 root canals in 4 weeks. At CND$1055.00 each.....

7:38 pm

Jacula- Very funny idea. But I'm going to stay away from sound. You'd think in this day and age of the web, it would be an easy thing to do, but alas it is not.

7:41 pm

<whistle!!> that's steep, Brandyjack. Green tea is good for gums. And you want CoEnzyme Q10 to strengthen them. And Vit C of course. Have you got a hand blender? Home made soup is really easy!!

7:43 pm

and those 3 canals will be followed by 3 crowns at about CND$980.00 each... All done by Sept 30.....

7:44 pm

Need help with je6 & jo5, please~

7:44 pm

I think we need to have a whip-round for BrandyJack. *Throws a hat down outside her house and starts singing.* (Not sure if I'll get money but I'll no doubt be told what time it is (1.43am) more than once.

7:45 pm

Dr_God. I'm not sure if sounds whacks bandwidth (or even if you're short of it) but those avatars might do.

7:45 pm

that's a pretty tune, Jacula, here's a squid!

7:45 pm

my wife and I both have excellent health plans so will get most of it back (except about $550) in short order.

7:46 pm

struggling with last c have ca4-6 ca5-14 any clues welcome please

7:47 pm

"AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH," I scream. Pi6/24. I've got the chemical compound that I'm gathering was the harder one to find, but I just can't find the other one. I've read the clues, and I'm. just. not. finding. it. help????

7:49 pm

BrandyJack - I will send you some homemade squid soup courtesy of myself and Babbler.:-)

7:49 pm

ca6/30 a type of leaf rust

7:50 pm

Doogle - That elusive pi6. If someone offered you a Christmas tree you might say what sort of tree it is (pi**) and then shortly say 'Thanks!'

7:52 pm

VERY good clue, Jacula!

7:53 pm

Poor Brandyjack! Take the pain meds if you need them, don't gut it out - that's not good for you.

7:53 pm

Need help with je6 & jo5, please~

7:54 pm

***Thank you, Jacula.*** I just wasn't letting my eyes travel far enough *up* the board. Sigh.

7:54 pm

No pain to speak of, just sore jaw muscles that hurt to open wide or chew.

7:55 pm

Pask - I don't know if you speak Welsh (you probably don't) but the first 3 letters of the word you want mean 'field, fence or hedge' in Cymru. In reply to that you might say Oh My (giddy) Aunt.

7:55 pm

Jera - Jo5/30... if you battled your Scottish sweetheart?

7:55 pm

o my giddy aunt!!!!!

7:57 pm

good clue Doogle!! (I'm not doing too well today... only 54 words now!)

7:57 pm

hmmmm, none of MY aunts has been put out to pasture....

8:00 pm

Brandyjack be thankful you have dental insurance I am on my 4th root canal at those prices with no insurance so it is all out of pocket. Finally can afford last crown tomorrow on payment plan. No vacation this year its in the mouth.

8:01 pm

Sorry Pask! Can't 'Ave Everything On My 'Ard drive! LOL.

8:02 pm

Thanks, Doogle, any clue for the other... would like to at least finish J's, it's been a tough day (only 53 words).

8:02 pm

Jacula-thanx finally found it

8:03 pm

good brandyjack, she might get a nasty fungus. I am an expert of sorts on the life cycle of certain fungi thanks to babble, google and Cornell.

8:06 pm

Clever Jacula. You're a genius. Ta.

8:10 pm

Speaking of fungi and nasty diseases, I do wish I hadn't read back about the other meaning of the Christmas word. I, too, will be wary of mistletoe from now on! LOL. (Mind you, before I'd read the clue properly, I was looking for 'parasite' on the grid.)

8:11 pm

mab - No, not a genius - just a crossword fanatic. You kinda get used to how to set cryptic clues (or how you would *like* them to be set).

8:12 pm

Right! Just got the p's left to finish. 7 of the little blighters.

8:13 pm

Does anyone have je6? Help, please!

8:14 pm

Oh, Jacula, Brit crosswards are ever so much more difficult that our USian ones, which usually involve no cryptic clues.

8:16 pm

mtnjock... thx for the open welcome to Memphis :) sure hope I get the chance to visit one day... Finally got a look at the updated board... nice :)

8:19 pm

Jera - it's a small Spanish horse and also an archaic form of referring to a female donkey or ass. In the middle ages it was also used as a christian name. If that doesn't help, all I can ask is if you were here when the clues for the thing that curdles milk were posted. If so, just change the first letter.

8:22 pm

Yay! Thanks!

8:22 pm

The name (for human females was often given as a laughingly derogatory form or given if there was something 'wrong' with them, i.e. deafness. I refer you to a novel: The Iceweaver by Margaret Lawrence.

8:25 pm

I haven't been here much today, so of course this turns out to be a tough one. I was on about an hour when it first came up, then maybe 90 mins tonight.

8:27 pm

I knew it would be a tough one when I saw no 's' or 'd' anywhere. ' Only going to get Latin plurals out of this one!' thought I.

8:31 pm

well only 88 but must get some shut-eye,2:30am here and need to be raring to go at 7:30.will try again tomorrow nite all/or morning

8:38 pm

Night Pask.

8:43 pm

any clues for the pe7?

8:46 pm

Hmmm. Curiosity piqued. Guess I'll have to pays my money and takes my chances on the new format! Whatever am I missin'? And pleasant surprise to see my "granddog" in the chat log! She's quite an intelligent pooch!

8:47 pm

pe7 - put together a writing instrument and a small number

8:49 pm

now why didn't I get that???? I am a rubbish lancashire lass!! bad toad! bad toad! thx syncopate. just gotta self-flagellate a bit more....

8:49 pm

As far as I know, I'm just looking for one pe5/14 (not the Finnish money or the old Greek peddler or trader). However, that stillleaves me one word short for 117 words?

8:50 pm

I'm nowhere near you, Jacula, but have you got the pasta?

8:57 pm

Thanks Babbler. I know the one you mean. I know I tried it hours ago because I've got it written down and crossed out. It's accepted it this time though. So thanks. One word left and, going from BJ's stats I've no idea which!

9:05 pm

63 words. that's i5/14! : (( my eyes hurt. I'm calling it. Night all!

9:06 pm

hi all

9:09 pm

Well, as far as I can tell, BJ's stats add up to 116 words/1201 points. I can't find any more words the puzzle will allow so I'll sign off on that. (We'll forget Elton Jo(h)n, Lenin, Dolly Parton's 'Jolene', Madonna's 1st hubby (Penn), the man who was swallowed by a whalw (Jona(h)), Petra, Leto (Zeus & Apollo's Mum), Tronc (a pool where bar or restaurant tips are put), and Pele.

9:13 pm

Jacula, I've added up the first column of Brandyjack's statistics, and it adds to 117 as far as I can tell (and matches my words)

9:26 pm

Does it? I'll count again... 1,2,3...

9:27 pm

let me know if you figure out what you're missing and want a clue

9:35 pm

A question/suggestion. I really like the format, but I find as the day goes on and the log gets longer, and now with extra images to load, my bowser just can't handle it and it freezes up. I can only get 'any action' with the chat log hidden which is too bad as I love to follow the banter. Would it be possible to have the chat log bump to another page when it hits, say 50 posts? That way, the main page would load faster and people could still access earlier posts when they need to. Just a suggestion... Dr_God, you have really done a super job here, I LOVE it. And all of the Babblers as so nice, helpful and funny. Great site ann around...

11:28 pm

11:34 pm

11:34 pm
