Evanadine, yellow are the active root letters, light grey are the number of words made using that active root letter, dark grey means no words start with letter or you've got the ones that are :) Think that makes sense... Hi Lola - nice icon ;)

this might be above/beyond what youre looking to do, but what about profiles that other people can see? so someone could clik on your username and see location, age, how long youve been playing....whatever info we enter...

I guess it would be ok to have profiles but they are only as good as the info put on them... I like the flag isea so even if you don't want to include a profile you can at least say what country iof that makes sense. Would everyone be able to fill a profile... pro and normal?
i figure we all get to know each other on here from chatting so much, why not? i guess it would require some sorta monitoring, but i think it would be fun. :)

GingerUK & evanadine- I don't think it would require much monitoring. The Babble community is pretty self-policing. If anything regarding a profile needed my attention, you guys could just let me know.
i think there could be appointed monitors...or there could be a "report this profile" button on each page...anyone who is found to have an indecent profile gets their account frozen. and since its only gonna be pro babble players (and thus people who paid money) i think the incidents would be minimal...

There are word filters that can censor any dodgy stuff, although I must admit i'm not in favour of that...
I vote yea on the flag and profile suggestions. I really don't think there would be that much attention required. Most everyone seems fairly mature here, and besides there is always the direct "send a message" button if anyone has a concern.

i think there are pros and cons to every idea...but i think you have to risk the negative if you wanna make things even better than they already are! :)

wilson, just curious, are you in the states? seems over here, its impossible to live life as an adult without one...even if you dont use the card, everyone requires that you have a credit history to make any large purchases...easiest way to have a credit history is to have a card...
It's almost the only way to purchase anything on the internet.

Lol evadine , Im in W.v. , USA . I have purchased vehicles and land here and have never had a credit card. When I get applications in the mail for credit cards i trash them because I know we would be using them for things we don't really need.Like now , if i had one i would be spending $9.95 to become a pro player which isn't mush but it does add up and the way gas prices are going every extra penny will be going into the gas tank to get my hubby to work and children to sports :))

i think anytime you send your info out into the world, even through snaik mail, theres a *chance* someone will take it and do bad things with it. but from what ive heard, PayPal is one of the safest ones...

When I was selling avon on e-bay i used paypal,I never had any problems with it but as u say nothing is 100% safe !!!
i only enter private information into secure websites .... that have the little padlock at the bottom .... so i am less worried about someone stealing something they shouldn't have with that said ... it would be nice to have a little something for us "non-pro" babblers ... a link to see who's logged in available to all users

a few times, the chat log hasnt refreshed itself, so i had to refresh my browser...
yah... now and again it won't post in the chat thing, or won't list a word or something....
.... or takes ages to take a word..... ........or takes one, only to spew it out later.....

I had to refresh earlier after i put a word in the chat got an error message and the word didnt go in.
I learnt it's best not to refresh sometimes. But othertimes, it's very necessary. It's instinctive!!
I notice a lot of slow down when everyone is posting. My browser usually pauses 5 or 6 times when i'm typing a message depending on the traffic. Sometimes takes a minute or so to shake its feathers...
snap. sometimes it can't cope when a message is coming in, and I've just pressed "Add".
but a little patience is all it needs. I still prefer beta to the 'norma' one.
My theory on the hiccups is that they're caused by the chat log constantly refreshing itself. I have two potential solutions: 1) Increase the time between chat refreshes 2) Give the user a choice between auto- and manual-refreshing
not having any of those problems with http://www.playbabble.com/ .... except i have to refresh my browser cuz this site doesn't have "auto-refresh"

Another solution to the chat log hiccups: Limit the chat log to the last 100 posts by default with the option of viewing all posts at any time.

I found the word from sherb's clue because I knew the word but her definition was incorrect and anyone who doesn't know the word wouldn't be able to find it. After I found the word I clicked the ? next to the word for a better definition.

My icon was drawn by another Babbler, Calicomo, who is an artist. I use it on my 'other' place. It has been shrunk down a lot, but it represents a little girl being bossy (she who must be obeyed) and wearing a kilt for my Nova Scotian roots. The liitle girl also has ringlets, which I NEVER had when I wa little LOL

Denny- It has to be a cache issue. Because the beta site and the current site use the exact same pages. If you don't mind, can you quit AOL and log back in? That might clear your cache.

lola- You can try and go to "Internet Options" under the Tools menu and click the "Delete Files..." button under Temprorary Files. See if that helps.

eeek! just logged back in. Don't mean to sound rude, but I don't like the new look. I like the word list next to the puzzle, it means I can contemplate and figure things out. And messages being centred make them harder to read. The 'old' layout worked very well.

Ok. After lookin at Denny's screen shot, I'm thinking it's definitely a cache issue. You'll have to find some way to clear your browser's cache so it can load the new style sheet and make things look all pretty again.

I think I know why. Explorer is having to caches all the icons again now that the site name has changed, and for some reason it's not storing any of them until it downloads them all first, and the chat log is refreshing itself before all the icons can finish downloading. It's a vicious cycle. I just turned off the chat log auto-update. So everyone refresh their browsers and let's all let the icons download and get stored in cache. :)

Well, it looks like Safari and Firefox do quite well with caching the icons and not trying to download them again if they've already downloaded them one. Internet Explorer insists on downloading the same icon over and over again for each post from the same person. Ugh...
Ah, yet another reason to go Mac. ;-)
i think an option to view or not view icons is definitely needed .... especially for those who do not have high speed internet

Sorry about the glitches. I decided to wipe out all the files on the server and upload fresh copies, just to see if there were any gremlins hiding about. And refreshing on IE 6 does seem much quicker now, and it seems to only download each icon once.

Finally finished. i would LOVE to stay and chat but the length of the page and the number of images just doesn't make it an option. Is anyone else having this problem? I hope Dr_God puts on a page limit of 50 with the rest cached. Also the automatic refresh was making my page jump every few seconds, very disconcerting. Nytol... (BTW, I have seen bits of Little Britain on BBC Canada: HILARIOUS!!!)
