How cold are winters in SF?
In the City itself we never have ground freeze, but with the winds off of the Pacific it can feel pretty cold! (Nothing like sub-zero, ever, though... probably coldest air temp is in the low 40's and that's rare)

We can go from -40 C to +40 C with the humidex. One time I was in San Antonio in July and it was hotter here in Winnipeg with the humidex factor.
I spent a week at a tradeshow in Vegas two years ago. 115F in the shade. Loved it.....

Loved Hemingway's Moveable Feast, but that was an outlier amongst his oeuvre. Actually, dogs would like that: food. This is what dogs hear when we talk to them: 'blah blah blah blah DINNER blah blah.'
Moveable Feast was just about the only thing of his I could stomach (heh!). The rest just comes off as self-aggrandizing blowhardism. (In my opinion.)
I think Hemmingway was ahead of his time. and by that , I mean if he were alive today, he would be a Jeraldo Rivera type of "reporter"/"personality".
