Wolfie - re the massage. I assume you know kneading the backs of your knuckles into the small of her back brings best relief? Do that when she's in labour also. It stimulates the body's natural prostoglandins (pain-killers). I know, 'cos it worked for me!

The X Files was great! I have most of them on video. I only stopped watching it when the stories got really silly and I also feared they might bring Scully and Mulder together. That would have ruined it! The frisson was the thing! My fave creepy episode, aside from the creeping though slats guy was the one about the man who answered fat girls' lonely hearts ads and then sucked all the fat from them. EURGH!
And I am back! Jac - saw your advice -- and yes I know that trick -- Kirsten says I have 'magic fingers' because they find all the tight spots and hit them just right to loosen them instantly -- high praise considering she's a fully trained masseuse and I am just an amateur ;D (that's also why I back so soon, she told me to!)

Wolfie dear. I'm not sure if you already have children and so have been through the labour scene before? Women react differently to the pain. She may call you all kind of sons of unmarried parents throughout it and tell you she never wants congress with you again, of any form. If that happens, DO NOT take it to heart. She doesn't mean it. She only means those words when she says them again to describe the maternity ward staff who say that old chestnut, 'See you again next year!'

For myself, I never maligned my husband when giving birth to our 2 kids. But I had a word or two to say to God about his design plan!
I think the most I've heard is very loudly "Don't touch me"
Jac - been there, and, she didn't do any of that -- she mostly whimpered -- she doesn't handle pain well to begin with -- THAT was the part I had trouble dealing with :)
After 12 hours of labor - induced at that - the baby got stuck and did not progress any further down the birth canal so they ended up doing a c-section
Doxy - glad to see you here. Your Irish Stew recipe is now in place on BabAnon. Re labour pains etc., have you NEVER had a mother tell you to 'go forth and multiply' after saying, 'See you again next year?' Or has political correctness gone so far that neither party is allowed to make that joke?
nope, we'll tease them about coming back next year. they usually just say something like dream on, or I don't think so. Most of our mom's get epidural's. Not much pain involved.

doxy - 12 years in labor & delivery! -- I take my hat off to you (*hug*) (*pulls over chair, makes doxy sit, and then starts a foot massage*) Since Kirsten was an LPN before becoming a stay at home mom, I know the best way to thank a nurse is to rub her feet ;D

Wolfie - I'm kinda sorry to see you saying 'she doesn't handle pain well'. Believe me, YOU have not ever experienced anything approaching the pain of childbirth. The only good thing I can say about the pain, although it it urgent yet unremitting is that you know there is going to be a reward at the end, and that it WILL end. Unlike other types of pain. But the pain, believe me, is horrendous. It think it's there for a reason... it binds mothers and babies together, and parnters also, should they be there. It sets the scenem we've been through a lot, for a family group that stays together. Well, that's God's theory.

sometimes they just can't get it in the right place for some reason. I've had a couple of patients that we replaced the epidural 3 times before it worked well. I had 4 c-sections myself and had 1 that the epidural didn't work. They put me to sleep.
Jac... you forget the pain it self when you hold the baby... you remember the thought of pain....It odes usually give males a lot more respect for us women

Doxy - I never bloody well forgot the pain! But I wanted a 2nd child, and well, it was so easy, having my daughter at home, 2 days later than she was due, after her brother had been breech and refused to turn and made me go into hospital to have him 3 weeks before he was even due!

asellers, I don't know what tools everyone uses or if they do. The log is always a great source for words. You can try a2zword finder or one look dictionary. As I said tho the stats on ba is the best. It gives you the 1st 2 letters.

oops temple. I was wrong. They showed the clip. They were told not to use the computer for anything but entering the code. They were not to use it to communicate with the outside world. Then, of course, a message is sent through the computer.
Oh yeah. THat's right. I forgot about that. lol. My dad is a big fan of the film and tends to ramble on about it. He was telling me that apparently Ed Wood had all these ideas about making this great film but his only large financial backer was the Baptist Church of Beverly Hills and they put the kabash on most of the ideas that he had and changed everything. It was originally titled Grave Robbers from Outer Space, but was renamed because that title (as well as much of the original dialog) was considered sacrilegious by its backers. To convince the church to bankroll the film, Ed Wood had the entire cast baptized. One actor couldn't fit in the baptismal pool so they moved the baptism ceremony to a swimming pool. : )

Charm - I haven't gotten past the first chapter yet, but that's because it's the 4th book in the Wraeththu series -- the first trilogy (The Wraeththu Chronicles) was very good -- but make sure you read the new edition under Immanion Press that came out in 2003 -- IP is Storm's personal publishing house and she re-editted the books to remove a lot of plot holes and inconsistencies
