I think with the planet sucked into that black hole, the D'argo is very definitely done.... Oh well we still get to watch Browder and Black in SG-1 next season. And Claudia is still in her black leathers.....
um, who said D'Argo was still on the planet? eh? And yes, BB is now permanently on SG1 but Claudia only had a handful of eps. She was great though and I hope they bring her back. Totally different from Aeryn.
Claudia joins the permanent cast of SG-1 for season 10.
Did I miss something? They bid her adieu a couple of eps before the holiday break. I was under the impression she would not be back.

Last words of the episode was that they detected a worm hole back to somewhere and that she may still be alive. Even more important was the news on a Farscape site that she was standing in for Amanda Tapping during maternity leave for the first part of Season 9 and would in fact be returning for Season 10 full time.

The second thought is that Boxing Day comes from the tradition of opening the alms boxes placed in churches over the Christmas season. Holland has no Boxing Day then - all shops are closed on 2nd Christmas Day.
It is also known these days as the day of great discounts on more stuff that one doesn't necessarily need. Places that have shopping on the day after xmas.
In the U.S. the day after Christmas is the biggest shopping day -- bigger even than the day after our Thanksgiving.

We had about a foot of snow a week or so ago and the temp has been climbing steadily. Still have 3-4 inches after the rain has beaten it down. Temp hovering around freezing and alternately raining and snowing. Snowflakes on Saturday the size and wait of a robin's egg. Wet ones too. No fun getting splatted by them...

Remember when I was a kid, we'd get a foot of the stuff, get the driveway shoveled and then we'd get another foot. The snow banks along the road would be triple stepped. I could stand on the top of them and look down on the bus top. Haven't had snow like that here in 25 years. We rarley get more than 10 inches in a single blast with a month or so between them. And in fact the ground may be green between 10 inch dumps.

I'm in southern Ontario, swimmy's in Nova Scotia on the far east coast of Canada. Lot of snow there. Not sure why, but a lot of storms come up the eastern seaboard from southern US, and a lot of the mid-west storms seem to brush past us here in Ontario just south of the Great Lakes and then beat the tar out of the New England states and the Maritime Provinces.

The Great Lakes definitely have an impact on the weather. People just 30 miles north of us have prevailing winds that come across Lake Huron and they get dumped on. I'm on the north shore of the Bay of Quinte which is a bay stuck between the mainland and the island of Prince Edward County. Although technically it is not an island because the canal at the western end is man made. Anyway, the people in the county get dumped on because their prevailing winds come ripping right up the length of Lake Ontario. We here in Trenton are placed just perfectly. We can see the dark clouds dumping to the north of us and to the south while we have a bright blue summer type sky.

There are days when I look west and expect to see the prow of some huge ship or a mountain sitting there forcing the clouds to peel off to the north and south. It can get quite eerie in the summer when thunderheads go ripping through and we have a bright painfully blue sky. You can see the lightning flashing and hear it quite well in your bones. But that's only the severe storms. The gentle ones seem to blanket us all equally in a mild drizzle of rain for days on end.

Nothing like the storms in Texas and Louisiana though. Went through a lightning storm in Texas. The lightning bolts were hot pink and intense blue and as thick as your arm. And they were too far away to hear... All we ever get is pallid whitish grey things.

If I lived in the southern or mid-west US, I'd probably be the most avid storm chaser they ever saw (at least until I got too close to something I shouldn't have). I love thunderstorms and snowstorms. I watched part of a program called snow walker which dealt with a city slicker and an Inuit lass stranded in our far north. That is beautiful contry. Albeit deadly to those who didn't grow up there.

renfield I always put a sleeve on the back so that they may be hung but I also think that they should be used. I find that as long as they are cold washed it shouldn't cause too many problems.

We were planning on going out of state for the holidays, so household preparations were minimal, just some gifts to give. Has anyone seen Christmas with the Kranks? lol

My husband went deer hunting Thursday with his bow, and told me he'd be out all day. He went by himself. I got a call at 10:00 a.m. from a kid who had saw him waving for help on the side of embankment.
Haven't seen the movie, but know the basic premise Go on...
It has warmed up a bit, and seems he stepped over a log to look down in this canyon and a deer down below... the melting snow made it muddy and down he went. Tried to stay on his feet (in retrospect, should have sat down for the ride), but his right leg his a stump and tore the tendons, dislocated the ankle, and broke the tibia above the ankle in a major angled break. :(
Ow! OW! OW! -- How long is he going to be recovering from this?
Also broke an arrow which I am thankful didn't lodge in him. He said he heard the the loud crack, snap, pop, etc. and when he finally came to a stop took a minute to get his breath, then looked and could see the bones up under the skin, and his ankle at an awkward 90 degree angle to his knee.
After getting his breath, crawled backwards up the hill using his elbows and this left leg to inch up. After about an hour he heard the truck and a high school kid saw him waving and helped him back to our truck. He drove himself to the hospital 45 minutes away. 2 hours of surgery, a metal plate and 5 screws later -- he is home after 2 days in the hospital.
Sorry if I'm too graphic for anyone. He's non-weight bearing for 4-6 wks. then they will evalutate again for perhaps a walking cast. Problem is, he's a university men's basketball coach and teacher, so getting around campus in the winter will be a challenge. My kids said they will get him a "rascal scooter" so he can zip up and down the court with the players during practice. LOL

luv -- thankfully, she is very understanding for being so young -- after politely telling her that my back hurt from going inside about 6 times, she is quite content to use the tent by herself as a safe zone to play in :)
luvy - a wheelchair should be covered under your inseuance for as long as your husband is unable to walk. mez had his chair for 3 years.
How cute. Playhouses are the best. I still remember making one out of a cardtable and sheet when I was little. She will be able to be so creative with it -- princess castle to playing house, etc. Good gift, Dad! *hugs*

Ok, ren -- If you enjoyed Fred Pohl then you might like Gemmell -- he writes historically based fantasy -- if you know your european history you can see where he gets the framework for his stories from --- I found him a few years ago and just fell right into his worlds :) I just got one of his most recent books for Xmas was why I asked ;)
He has three series that I know of The Rigante The Drenai The Hawk Queen I have not read any of the Hawk Queen books yet, but I intend to :)

My intro to Gemmell was the Drenai saga: Legend The King Beyond the Gate and more -- The Drenai is fascinating due the fact that the Drenai empire is an empire in its ebb, so we get to see the tranition of power away from a people that we get to know and admire And his characterization is phenomenal!! You get to identify with the characters very quickly :)

While I am hyping my favorite fantasy authors -- I also highly recommend Terry Pratchett -- he is the author of the Discworld series -- He pretty much does to fantasy what Douglas Adams did to SF with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
i found him on half.com - looking right now. most of the books i read were written prior to 1960 - except those evanovich -books - only those thave quite a bit of bad language - someone who reads the books before me colors out all of the bad words for me.
Ren - you have hit in one of the main reason why I do not read mainstream fiction on a regular basis -- the fact that so many authors feel the need to resort to coarse language or sex to fill the book instead of relying upon being a good storyteller
i'll look at terry pratchett as well. oh - i did read a mystery about w sf writers convention by sharon mccomb and i do have an antiquated collection of the hugo winners.

The trick to Pratchett is to realise that he has several different story arcs that he covers in the books -- The City Guard, the Wizards, the Witches, and Death are the primaries -- The 1st four Death books in order are: Mort Reaper Man (In my top three of best in the entire series) Soul Music Hogfather
