If by that you mean about a 25-year streak of bad luck, then yes. :) I did take a hot shower. Hunter (apparently unhurt, but thrown against the back of my seat) was taken from the scene by a friend and spent the rest of the day at the daycare and didn't get home until late. So I tihnk we will just see how we are in the morning. You have a great day!
(Perspective: The morning began by my being late to work because you couldn't get across town from the massive pileup caused by a guy with a stolen car - one died there, plus there was gunplay in the chase that follows. All I have is a possibly totaled car and some aches and pains. No worries. 'Night.)

It's those last missing words that drive you crazy. Large puzzles usually start off fast and then at some point you hit that stone wall! I need 83 more words and cannot see another one in the grid!

When I started on babble there were no BJ's llists or BabAnon or even the pro verion. BabAnon and BJ's lists are nothing to do with Dr_G and are done on a voluntary basis for which we thankBJ and swmbo!

It's not so much sleeping, it's dreaming. I'm prone to nightmares I can't tell from reality, so I tend to average about 3-4 hours nightly...don't know if you'd call that insomnia or psychotic...

mine are always about extreme cruelty. someone intentionally torturing me and enjoying it, who won't stop no matter how much i beg. and i've never had any traumatic experiences that would explain why i would dream things like that.

I'm VERY over-protective of my kids! Stephen wants me to get on meds so I sleep better, but I've tried so many and I don't like them, they affect the way I am when I'm awake, like my ability to get angry (which he likes). It's healthy to vent!

Melatonin is what I use to help me sleep (in addition to trazodone)... melatonin can actually be found in the natural herbs/vits section of any grocery store. Works wonders!!!

Bunny, I have had insomnia since I was a kid (yes, even at the tender age of 5, I remember not being able to sleep!)... a small dose of trazodone (I'm on 100mg at bedtime) does the trick with no sleeping-pill side-effects.

And as we're already on the subject of bad dreams and nasty things ... my mother-in-law died last weekend and her funeral is on friday. fine. but now Ive just found out my best best best friend / sister has an emergency operation on Friday and she'll be on her own going into hospital / waking up, cos her mother is also in hospital (a different hospital!). Which one should I go to? Funeral or hospital care? *sigh*

Hmmm, I'm iffy on meds (especially herbal, and especially if I just have to take them because my brain is on melt down!). I't expensive. The only time I've really budged is in labor. I went in saying all natural. YEAH, RIGHT!
It's the right thing to do, then Atalante. Truly, the living are who need us. And it is so awful to be alone in the hospital. I don't think you should feel badly at all.

Boots Pharmacy also has a product called "Calms" that I have used for myself, as well as a very small dose to help my cat when travelling overseas... not as good as melatonin, but not bad.
Maybe shortly after, you could go to the gravesite with your husband alone...

I'm sure I've tried 'Calms'. I had a bad experience with an over-the-counter sleeping tablet once. I didn't take it with water, and my tongue swelled up and I couldn't breathe. So I thought, right if this is it, I'm having a cigarette! And that took the swelling away. Scary moment. :(

I am a lifelong insomniac also. I take klonopin and benedryl together for sleep. If I don't sleep, I get the black dogs.

i take children's benedryl and xanex..i stayed awake for 6 weeks once....arghhhhh was i a green meanie or what???
I did when we moved from VA to SPain... it was a veeeery long MAC (military) flight... something like 13 hours without being able to come out of her kennel; the vet actually told us to do it.
I stick to yoga breathing and music at the minute. Lavendar seems to stimulate my mind too much. I do the 'in for 3, hold for 3, out for 6' breathing technique. Then there's always sudoku....

The people that load the planes are AF airmen, so they aren't as bad as regular civvie baggage loaders. I actually got very used to the MAC flights when I was over there... flew to Siciliy and Italy about every other month for shopping/eating. But you are right about the kids... I think they needed heavy sedation! Not even our stash of on-board liquor helped us cope!

Ren, you remind me of my manic patients who would walk the hospital halls with their eyes closed -- they were so tired, but their brains woud not let them rest. Some would be so snowed with meds and still moving, poor things.
and I got pretty much ordered to start taking meds a few years ago - and I'm soooo grateful I did!
I flew with my three before I had the twins, they were all under 6. People walked by us when the flight landed and commented on how well behaved they were, that they didn't even know I had children with me, and then glanced at the screamers in the front of the plane. Some parents! I could see a child under two behaving noisily, but these kids were 8, 9!
My Crohn's Disease maintenece meds don't help my sleep out at all... I have one I take in the morning that if I forget and take it after 10AM, I can't get to sleep!

Atalante, I've learned which foods to which I'm allergic, and that has made all the difference. I still have emergency partial obstructions, but I know that if I can get to the emergency room, the pain meds will stop the escalation. Then I go home to recuperate.

Oh Atl!!! I pray for her! It's awful! I have been lucky... I have moderate/severe Crohn's but have not had to have (knock wood) surgery. When I have a flare up, I used to take prednisone, but am now prednisone resistant; luckily haven't had a flare-up (knock wood again!) in over a year so the imuran (thank God I don't want more kids!) and the Pentasa (17 of the pills a day!!) must be working.

i think the only way to NOT get addicted to the game is to not play...hehe or else create a mental rule that once starting a puzzle, you MUST finish it -- thats prevented several babblers from becoming TOO addicted...
I was only wondering, my husband had his out about a year and a half ago, but he is still having pains like when it was there. He's one of those "won't go to the doctor unless I pass out and you drag me" types. I was wondering what could be causing the pain?

mab and jen - I feel for you both! Its funny, my friend's actual classic Crohn's isn't *too* bad, but the side-effects she has that involve her immune system are just scary. In the last 2 or 3 years, she's had her bladder removed, had her jaw reconstructed twice, had a hysterectomy and just recently had a double mastectomy, all due to immune system issues related to the Crohn's. Now you can see why I want to be there with her!!!
I thought maybe they missed a stone or scar tissue... His mom has him convinced he's growing a new one (don't get me started on the in-laws).

Yup, she used to be a nurse, so he listens to her. I was pregnant with Eycsis when I was 16, some of the stuff she told me had me in tears when I went into labor.
I haven't had too many side effects from the Crohn's except retina swelling (which made contacts impossible for about 5 years) and thinning hair. The thing that kills me about GI's is that 3/4s of the time their "necessary" surgeries are not necessary! Nothing cures Crohn's and the only thing you should do the GI surgeries for is if you have stomas, blockages, etc. removing part of a bad gut ain't gonna cure it. Sorry... I rant a lot about Crohn's! :)

Some evidence shows that breast-feeding helps protect, some races are more susceptible (eastern-Eur Jews for one)... no one knows where I inherited mine. Although it first showed up after a VERY stressful event ( death of my grandmother/best friend and a solo trip to Europe)

well I rant a lot about Crohn's, Jen, and I dont even have it! As far as I know, there is a genetic component - at least in some cases, otherwise, who knows - I guess as with anything immune system based, any time of big stress could cause problems
frightening the things your body can do to itself for seemingly no reason... the mom of one of the girls i teach has had a year or so + somewhat unexplainable health problems + it sounds like they now have an explaination...for instance, id guess shes about 30-35 and had a series of strokes out of the blue!
That's why I am part of CCFA (Crohn's Colitis Foundation of America)... they do a lot of lobbying for research.

It is a mysterious auto-immune thing - one's body just turns on itself. Thus the other problems. I have arthritis (which I treat with yoga) and a few other relatively minor surprises. No cure. Cut and it just comes back. Damned annoying.

I think Crohns is genetic too. I knew a girl who had it and was being treated for it after it flared up. She had a twin who had no symptoms, but she had to go for check ups and treatment too. If I remember rightly, she had it too.

Jen - I do feel for you - my son is in the RAF & was safe & cold in the Falklands for 4 months last year. He had 2 x 5 yr olds & a 2 yr old who missed him terribly. It was a very long 4 months- we did a lot of time filling!

He's working on some huge project with the Navy (his former employer), but I have no idea what (story of my life, since he used to be intelligence) and he's gone till the end of June... hence my going home to my parents house for a month, periodic bouts of depression (missing of the hubby), and frustration with my son (who has never had to deal with Daddy being away).
