12:20 am

o6/18

12:26 am

57 words so far... you knutmeg?

12:32 am

oh -- I see Lickety's playing again! hope his game goes well! :-) I think I'll turn in until his clues are up later. see you all!

12:47 am

how many words today?

12:47 am

Hello? Do I have the whole place to myself

12:47 am

174

12:51 am

no mab - i'm here as well

12:52 am

Hi ren. What a handsome logo - what is it for?

12:52 am

louie vuitton logo for today?

12:53 am

Oh, I see. I don't know many logos by heart.

12:54 am

it's branding..i guess i get to see a lot of items since i go shopping w/ my siser in law

12:55 am

how's the tap dancing?

12:57 am

I used to love shopping with William's sister - I might buy one item while she would by many many, and three to 10 of each. I wonder how she is. I wonder where she is - last I heard she was in South Africa.

12:58 am

no tapping yet.

12:58 am

same w/ me mab....i like to look, i prefer books and music

12:59 am

It's Duke Ellington's birthday today - he'd be 107 years old if he'd lived.....

12:59 am

i think about you when i see fred and ginger, or ruby keeler

1:00 am

love duke ellington!

1:00 am

Books! I'm crazy when it comes to books. Although poor, I still manage to buy them.

1:01 am

i never pay wholesale for books! i buy used bools

1:02 am

I love him too. He represents such an enormous lot in jazz history. And I love Billy Strayhorne songs.

1:04 am

A train

1:04 am

I agree. There's no point in paying full price for books any more.

1:05 am

you could buy groceries for a week for the price of some of the books

1:05 am

Satin Doll, Lush Life, Duke's Joint

1:06 am

oh yes satin doll....

1:08 am

I actually sort of get a thrill out of getting a book second-hand. First that it's not expensive, and secondly that someone else has presumably read it - I like something about that. Of course, once in my library it rarely goes any further in the world.

1:09 am

and i wonder about the books w/ inscriptions...i don;t even loan my books....

1:10 am

It's funny how some melodies are picked up in jazz circles. For awhile everyone was doing their version of My Favorite Things. I don't really associate whiskers on kittens with John Coltrane.

1:11 am

Love inscriptions.

1:11 am

and it's like rock and roll elevator music.....

1:11 am

Not the way Coltrane did it.

1:13 am

right....there's just some music that can;t cross genre....and some you are amazed when an artist performs it!

1:15 am

Yes, for example, I don't reallly want to hear Sinatra (who may or may not really be jazz) singing the Beatles' Yesterday -- yech

1:15 am

here's a style bender for you...an incredibly well done and hilarious folk cover of Baby Got Back by Jonathan Coulton http://www.jonathancou lton.com/lyrics/baby-got-back His other stuff http://www.jonathancoult on.com/songs

1:16 am

that was strange......i like chick corea's gershwin

1:17 am

morin all

If you have trouble with the streaming from the lyrics page, they sometimes play better from the main listings page.

1:18 am

hi renfeild

1:18 am

hey ren - yeah, a week of deadlines and a weekend of food poisoning really cuts into Babble time. :-D

1:18 am

thanx ruthy (mum)

1:19 am

1:20 am

Hi ruthy, hannah lou, soni.

1:20 am

Happy happy birthday Hannah Lou!

1:20 am

ow soni...understnad deadlines...yeck on the food p....that is really bad - sure hope you ar better!

1:21 am

Happy Birthday Hannah Lou!!!!

1:21 am

all better, and work is all on deadline to boot!

1:21 am

happy birthday hannah!!!!

1:22 am

soni you are the 3rd person i've spoke w. today that has suffered from food p

1:22 am

That's some lyric, soni! I don't know John Coulton.

1:22 am

Maybe it's you. *snork* :-D

1:26 am

John Coulton is a geek music genious. I find it absolutely amazing that he can translate such a rap-a-licious Sir Mix-A-Lot piece like Baby Got Back into pure, melodic folk stylings. The man's a friggin maestro. His Re: Your Brains is hillarious, too. It's zombies, on an office conference call.

1:26 am

Chick Corea doing Gershwin -- I've never heard it but bet it's good.

1:27 am

it is mab.

1:27 am

thank you all for ur messages

1:29 am

Never leaving the house and not having television has hugely cut into my knowledge (which was vague to begin with) of popular culture. I wonder if I care about that. I wonder if I should worry. hmmm....

1:30 am

This is a huge birthday, Hannah. I hope you have a wonderful day.

1:31 am

mab....you aren;t missing a thing!

1:31 am

I'm just thinking about your posting, soni. I wouldn't be able to identify that song if my life depended on it. Maybe if Dizzy Gillespie covered it....

1:34 am

mab do you ever listen to fats waller's piano?

1:34 am

MSN is my isp. One day not long ago there was a picture of Tom Cruise and the cutline was about how he and his partner had a child and how one could learn more about this. Does anyone really care?

1:35 am

no

1:35 am

I don't own any Fats Waller, but very occassionally he's played on the public radio station here. I love him.

1:37 am

Ah, well, there is that. Baby Got Back is a booty anthem from the height of the hip-hop craze. I'll see if I can find a clip of the original for you.

1:38 am

That's ok. I admire the hip hop form for it's poetic potential, but I'm not a big fan.

1:40 am

Here's one, although there's some egregious loading time involved. http://www.artistdir ect.com/nad/music/artist/songs /0,,493734,00.html

1:40 am

Darn, broken link. Oh well. Nevermind.

1:40 am

Oh, thanks soni. I listen to it later.

1:42 am

i'm pretty much a jazz and classical kind of person.

1:42 am

The hilarity of Coulton's piece is in the difference between the two. Of course, I'm a fan of remakes, remixes and cross-genre work, like the rave remix of Phantom of the Opera theme.

1:44 am

I recently heard some remix of Jobim signature songs, like the Wave, or the Girl from Ipanema, done by some hip hop people. It didn't hold together very well.

1:45 am

Yeah, some really work and some...well, not so much. Gah. It's almost 2am. I shouldn't start Babbling at this hour. It's just too hard to focus. Or it coulda been the zombie melody. I think I'll call it a night and come back refreshed tomorrow.

1:45 am

Not just Jobim, but that kind of Brazilian sound from the 60s or 70s....

1:46 am

rock on...or not, as your tastes dictate.

1:46 am

Night soni.

1:47 am

ta. that's what I get for staying up late watching Dr. Who.

1:47 am

nite soni

1:47 am

the new dr who?

1:48 am

Oh yes, the new one. Remarkably good, all things considered. Even had a Dalek encounter already.

1:50 am

thanks for the info soni

1:57 am

Can't concentrate. think I'll come back to this in the daylight. Sweet dreams ren if you're still about.

3:21 am

Good morning (or afternoon) everyone. 174 words? Not sure if I will play today.

3:29 am

Good morning, ex-Wren. There are no re words!

3:32 am

Yes I just checked on that Haz. It is our wedding anniversary today, 17 years. (we are both '2nd time arounders'!

3:34 am

Oh, congratulations on your wedding anniversary. We celebrated our 24th last Monday.

3:45 am

im done.

3:46 am

Congratulations, oggy - what did you think of the grid?

3:46 am

wait till you reach 34years like me.

3:47 am

It's good to know that marriages CAN last!

3:47 am

not too bad once you get going.

3:47 am

Congratulations, ExWren. Happy anniversary! And do play. I gave up at 95 or so yesterday but it was still fun.

3:48 am

you have to work at it , which at lot of couples dont do.

3:49 am

Your're right, oggy. My marriage only lasted 2 years. I found out he had another woman. The b******!

3:50 am

I think a lot of couples have unrealistic expectations of marriage and expect to be deliriously happy all the time. Life's not like that!

3:50 am

my sons on his second already, and he didnt last a year.

3:50 am

We were both widowed, so we were very lucky to find each other. I very much doubt we will live long enough to reach 34 years though oggy!

3:51 am

Ex-Wren - it's lovely that you have both had a second chance of happiness together. Long may it continue.

3:51 am

All three of my sons are divorced, one has remarried and the other two have live-in partners!

3:51 am

Let's hope you do, ExWren. You never know, they might find the secret of reversing age next year! Hope so. I'd like to see my wrinkles melt away.

Hello all! nice grid

3:53 am

Hello MrPresident.

3:53 am

Mornin', MrP.

Haz, that is a very formal greeting!!

3:55 am

Sorry - it's the MrPresident thing, I feel I have to accord you due respect!

LOL Haz! hydra... you did find yourself a right b*****! Poor you!!

3:59 am

He was a rock musician. She was a groupie. Shoulda known better! And before anyone asks, it wasn't a famous band. Just London based. I was a music journo at the time I met him.

hydra, why should you have known better? He should have been a man/husband and kept his di** in his pants! I hate cheaters! I was caught up in a relationship with a guy... he was great! then one day at the club, his 'girlfriend' comes over and threatens to tell his 'wife' about everything (I had no idea about this girlfriend OR the wife) unless he pays her all this money!! He turns to me and says, "I love you"... I tell him to FO and shut his pie hole and leave!

4:06 am

You're so brave. You did just the right thing. Wish I'd been a fly on the wall! I got in a relationship with a guy and he didn't tell me he had a wife and two kids. I was heartbroken. Men can get away with it because they're not home cooking tea and wiping tiny bums.

Real men are at home cooking tea and wiping up the mess! Find a real man and you will have the future you want!! a HAPPY one!

4:09 am

I have one right now. He worked from 6.30am to 6.30pm yesterday putting glass in my new conservatory! He's a gem.

4:09 am

Just to play devil's advocate - not all real men are quite so domesticated but they should at least be willing to help!

Good going Hydra!!

4:11 am

He also builds and mends computers, makes jewellery, builds websites and is a registered plumber. Anyone want to borrow him?

4:11 am

Well, mine can calve a cow......

hydra! don't lend that one out!!

4:13 am

I can't beat that. Wow!

4:13 am

hydra - it's not awfully useful around the house, but it helps to pay the bills!

4:25 am

Hydra, can i borrow your husband, mines good with putting sheleves up, but when it comes to computers he just wipes things out if it doesn't work and hopes that the extra space will make it work(not)

4:28 am

i'm not complaining though, compared to alot of men around here, mines an angel, a housework buff, keeps the garden tidy and is a good cook , not like me

4:30 am

have lost the last jo, any help please

scatty... jo + 5th & 1st vowel + l

4:33 am

thanks mrp, couldn't see it

4:36 am

Okay - got my first 100 words and it's time to get ready for shopping (groan). Have a good day and see you later.

bye haz, get something for the blood splatter whilst you are out! That cow juice is hard to get off the curtains!! LOL

4:38 am

bye Haz

5:02 am

Hi scatty. Been away for a while doing things to holiday photos taken from mobile phone. So many people borrow my bloke (just boyfriend, not husband - if you can call a 58 yr old a boy!), he's all worn out! He's got to do my new kitchen next!

5:36 am

Hi hydra, no wonder he's worn out with all the things you have him doing, mine of 25 years in june is god at things once he puts his mind to it, do you know no-one has been chattings for the past hour, i think everyone has gone to sleep

5:38 am

i'm going for a while, have to Asda shop dog food, so much cheaper than the Co-op here, back in about an hour, as far as the n's so will be back to finish, if i can get back onto the computer

5:43 am

good morning everyone. This seems like a hard one. Yesterday's was smooth sailing. Oh well.

5:44 am

morning eva.

5:46 am

Hi Cliff. Did the baby sleep through the night or did she keep you awake? Another phenomenal day. The superstitious part of me keeps being convinced that we will have to pay for all this amazing weather-do you think a tsunami is possible in Vermont?(-:

5:47 am

Oh, by the way, the first blackflies havea been spotted. Much too early, but I'm hoping that the frosts the past two nights may have killed them.

5:49 am

the baby has (his) own room on the 1st floor of our house, bedroom is on 2nd so i got to sleep....when i went to bed anyway. i couldn't tear myself away from the cutie pie until midnite. we had a little scare yesterday - his legs weren't working for a while. but he is racing around today :) i know what you mean about the weather! i hope we don't have to pay for all this sunshine with a rainy summer. it has been soooo nice.

5:51 am

i'm predicting a bad year for black flies. it has been so dry around here i don't know how they could be reproducing.

5:51 am

wonder what was wrong with his legs? If there was swelling from the attack I suppose that could do it temporarily.

5:52 am

unllke mospquitos, which like standing water, blackflies need clean, running water and we still have plenty of that.

5:52 am

the vet said probably just nerve damage or swelling. xrays were fine.

5:54 am

i did not know that eva (clean running water) but we still should do okay. brooks and streams in my area are running low if running at all. not very good for fishing.

5:56 am

There's an si7 running around somewhere. Have you spotted it?I have the 8 & 9 and 8 of the 7's.

5:57 am

i only have the sunday newspaper comics (fu 7) and the bad people(me 7) for 7's

5:58 am

the log lists most of them and isn't very long this morning.

5:58 am

the SI7 usually starts with IN

6:00 am

Thanks lynxxx!

6:00 am

i'll have to go back and look if i don't make much progress. i have not been challenging myself enough lately (i've been using lickety's list less than halfway thru)

6:02 am

I go it on my own until I run dry, then review the log, then ask for help, then when I come back at the end of the day I give in another go and then go for BJ's list when I'm down below 30 or so. More than that and using the lists is just too exhausting physically.

6:04 am

You could bring Brady over for a play date. I would love to find out how Merp would react to a kitten, to know whether we could get another cat. But it would mean having one here for weeks, for long enough to tell once the fur stops flying, and I would be heart broken if I had to give a kitten back to the pound.

6:04 am

eva - i just realized we used a word....those black things. oops!

6:04 am

oops

6:05 am

Morning! Cliff, was just reading the log and saw yr entry te the baby and then read up the log further and saw "the vet" and was very confused until I realised it was the kitten you were talking about, still haven't quite stopped laughing at myself yet :)

6:06 am

Morning FMitch! This baby has more fur than most.

6:06 am

there just can't be 21 a's!!

6:06 am

LOL Eva, is the grid being kind to you today?

6:07 am

I'm finding it rough going, but then I often do, unlike some of you. 77 left to find after about an hour.

6:08 am

i've had to be very patient when introducing new cats in my house. 3 1/2 yrs ago i adopted 2 elderly cats and it was a year before they could be in my dog's company. then the 3 yr old female came on board 18 months ago. she wanted to be friendly, but the old guys were not impressed. the one old guy i still have chases her if she comes close. but that is why we have the 'safe' room with gates in the door - so they can get to know each other slowly.

6:09 am

I call nearly 100 words in a hour great going Eva!!!

6:09 am

i'm glad you had a laugh about it fmitch...we all need something to laugh at :)

6:10 am

:) Cliff, glad the little one is alright now though.

6:10 am

21 a's???? i haven't got one yet :(

6:11 am

i'm happy brady came thru everything okay too. i still can't believe i have a kitten! i haven't raised a kitten for 18 yrs. i can't stop looking at him or taking pictures. good cure for my 'empty nest' problem.

6:14 am

Those first 100 are usually pretty fast, but I still don't have a propeer babble vocabulary, so once the common words run dry I have to wait for the rest of you to reveal the secret codes. Cliff-speaking of empty nest, how is your son doing?

6:16 am

also, I decided a while ago, after the initial mania died down some, that I don't want to work to hard at the grids. I only do what I can do in a relaxed way. After all (ducking so as not to get shot) it's "only a game", and if it's not fun it's not worth it. Also, it's not good for the fibromylagia to stay at it for too long.

6:17 am

thank you for asking eva. my son is doing well. he has been able to call me 3 times (only for 3 minutes each time) but now he has email so i'm sure he'll keep me updated more often. he says he is enjoying the challenges, except for the heat. it has been in the 80's since he got there (alabama).

6:18 am

will he be staying in alabama, or is he en route to someplace worrisome?

6:18 am

good philosophy Eva, wish I could apply some of that strategy. Good to hear re yr son Cliff, do keep us updated.

6:19 am

i'm still trying to come out of the babble 'mania' stage. since i completed my first grid about a month ago, i haven't been able to go a day without finishing.

6:21 am

my son will only be in 'bama until july. he was accepted into the USAF as a mechanical engineer and will be doing research and development for aeronautics. there are a handful of bases where the engineers work on research, including one in massachusetts, but he won't find out until july where he is going. fortunately officers in his position don't spend much if any time in battle zones.

6:24 am

ta7/32 op of short mlinus last letter + u4/5 .. or .. def: A sloping mass of rock debris at the base of a cliff

6:27 am

i'm looking at my base... :) still can't find the whole word

6:30 am

LOL, Op of short minus last letter and then "he u*** a hammer to hit a nail"

good morning to my fellow babblers

6:38 am

morning, everyone!

6:38 am

morning sheryl

how goes it cliff?

6:40 am

good morning/afternoon everyone!!

6:40 am

not much progress with today's grid, but otherwise a beautiful new england day. how are things in your neck of the woods?

nice sunny day, here too, and same with the gird, lol

6:42 am

Hi Bex, Angel and Sheryl

hello fmitch how are you?

6:44 am

Doing fine thanks, and sun is trying to shine :)

going to get out in my garden and start pulling the weeds, can't believe those little devils have already got a strong hold in there, lol

6:45 am

just thinking, there may be 21 a's but at least there are no re's!!!

6:45 am

I can't believe 21 A's. still need 6 of them.

I wanted to sleep in today since I was up late last night watching movies but my internal clock had me up at 7 am guess that is better than the 6:30 am I get up for on a work day, lol

I only need to more A's that I am stuck on

oops 2 more not to more, lol

today's icon theme is monsters, so I left the zippers since when my arthitis is flared up a zipper is a monster for me, lol

6:48 am

I just tripped over the 8 letter word...:)

6:49 am

oooh well done I dont have the 8 or 9 yet.

6:49 am

i thought todays theme was logos?

6:50 am

Not following the theme today Bex.

I could be wrong, maybe that is for tomorrow???

6:51 am

i think monsters is tomorrow and logos today. well that is what babbler's profile says

yup i got it backwards, lol

6:52 am

ok my logo has arrived!

6:56 am

Angel I have the 8 too now, had the abbr of it but never thought of extending it. Also found the 9, very similar word but the ending is the pt of "to consume food"

6:56 am

Hi all - just having a break before scouring the upper floor of the tip that I call home! Bex - you will recognise my logo I think!

6:57 am

yes id o!

hey snowy

6:59 am

Sudoku done, but with guessing. Well, nm ;) Hi FMitch, nice to see you too!

Sprite, I stared at it, looked away and BAM! there was the link... it was ok!

7:26 am

Yeah, I know, I am having a stupid day, I think. I just couldn't see it.

I better go watch the soccer with Lickety... he is screaming and jumping up and down at every close goal... all on his little lonesome!!

7:27 am

Nice picture :) Have fun and say hi from me.

will do! BYE everyone!! enjoy the puzzle and see you all later! ((waving!))

7:29 am

Byee!!!

7:29 am

(waving back atcha) Bye Mr.P 8)

Yeck, the city I live in has just implemented a new garbage reducing plan, each house is only allowed one bag of garbage a week. They have given us a small composte pail to use and we are suposed to put all our food waste, coffee grounds etc. in it, do you think I can remember to use it, lol. Looks Iike I will have to pay for my extra bags next week, lol

7:31 am

Sheryl, it's a bit more work, but you will get used to it, I am sure. Good luck ;)

I know I will get used to it, I should put the container on my counter not under it for a few weeks so i see it and remember to use it

7:36 am

That would work for me too, lol. As long as it is in plain view.

7:37 am

Sheryl - get very large bags hahaha

lol, moozey, gonna need them

7:38 am

i wish there was mandatory recycling in my area. my neighbors regularly put out 5 or more bags each week.

thats alot of garbage cliff. We have always had a 2 bag min. so I ahve always recycled paper and plastic and tin and such but the wet stuff is new here.

hey, my daughter's last name is in this gird, lol

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING ALL! ******FIREWORKS*****for MrP Ready to get started!!!!! Hope it's easy, have lots to do today.

gm rumple, diving into the puzzle are you?

7:49 am

God I love Li7/28! :)

7:50 am

Yea, I was pleased when I found that one too.

7:51 am

Actually put a smile on my face :D

7:51 am

and there are a couple of good f7's.

7:52 am

I have 3x F7 so far.

7:52 am

I've got all but one of those f 7's--I've been at 173 for a while now--I've got the comics--can't get the other. Any clues?

7:53 am

2x Fu and 1x Fi.

7:54 am

Thats all of them sprite. There is the big end to a stage show for a 6 and it's pl for the 7.

7:55 am

And the other Fu is plural for any thing used to get liquid from one place to another.

7:56 am

*pour liquid from...

7:59 am

TY Sprite! I have the fu 6 that is the singular--but kept looking at the wrong L I'm done--May I give anyone clues?

8:00 am

yw and congrats on finishing! :)

8:00 am

em 7, please?

8:00 am

WTG Katieq May I have a clue for the me7 please

8:00 am

Good Morning, everyone!

8:02 am

me7 builds on a 4/5 with common plural ending

8:02 am

there are two me 7's one is the plural of the me 6 nasty person the other me7 is the pigment(?) in ones skin which makes it darker (a very unscientific definition)

gm jera how are you?

8:03 am

em 7 = an animal plus la4/4 means to copy

hello. everyone! : )

8:03 am

Good clues thanks Kateq and Jera

48 more words to go and I am going to take a break and save the rest for later, happy babbling all

8:04 am

thanks, kateq--that one was too obvious...*sigh*

Morning Jera

8:06 am

yw! Have a lovely day, everyone!

8:09 am

Hello everyone, I already looked in about 4 hours ago, but I've popped back to see how you are. I made the decision not to play today, I have other things to do. Its our wedding anniversary so we will be going out later.

8:10 am

Hi ExWren congrats, I your posts in the log from this morning, have a lovely evening.

8:10 am

Happy Anniversary!

ta 7 32 ? cannot find. help needed please

happy anniversary, exwren!

8:11 am

Grim, it's the plural of the 1 above it.

thats the trouble i need that one also but thought the big one would lead me to it.

8:18 am

un5,12 anybody?

8:19 am

Ta= not short ta**....drop the last consonant and add abbr. for our country

8:19 am

Grim - have you got the us4/5? If you do add that to the op of short but take the last letter off the t word 1st. That will give you the 7/32

thanks

8:20 am

UN5 an organization for workers' rights

8:20 am

ExWren, have a great and romantic day :)

8:20 am

... and I am done!!!!!!!

8:22 am

YAHOO! WTG FMitch!!!

8:27 am

Yaaaaa You Too!!Grim

8:28 am

ME7/32, anyone?

8:28 am

The 2nd ME7, please.

8:29 am

There are some good clure around 8.00 in the log gramma, they helped me find both the m7's

8:30 am

TY, FMitch.

8:31 am

always welcome gramma:)

8:33 am

Good afternoon all - back to finish, hopefully.

8:33 am

Haz, I didn't recognise you !!! LOL

8:35 am

I chose this icon because I feel as though I have supported Boots for years! Having two daughters means that there's plenty of money spent in there.

8:36 am

I too have spen many an hour there too. Many words left to find?

8:37 am

34 to go. I was pleased to find quite a few of the sevens on the first sweep without the list.

8:40 am

ooo thats a nice number left to go.

8:43 am

Yes, just enough to keep things interesting rather than daunting.

8:47 am

Hey sprite, I have just received an email from my daughter with "Fooduko"!! You have to make up a sandwich with every 9 squares! I couldn't do that one either!

8:53 am

Does anyone know what the 8 & 9 are?

8:54 am

li9/54 li8/50 ( think floorcovering for this one)

8:55 am

Thanks Haz - had the short version of the li8, but didn't see the rest.

8:56 am

The youngsters probably won't know what it is!

8:58 am

I'm already having my mid life crisis - please don't make me feel older!!

8:59 am

My worst moment was being asked by my children if everything was black and white when I was young!

9:04 am

And I wonder why I don't have children!!

9:08 am

Hi all - back briefly - Lol Haz! My son once asked me if we had gas light in the swimming pool when I was young!

9:10 am

And did you????

9:11 am

LOL I'm only 51! Mind you it was in Wales!

9:11 am

Gotta run TTFN, have fun babbling :)

9:12 am

bye Fmitch

9:12 am

I think children just have no concept of when things happened - history just seems to merge into a mass of images.

9:13 am

Bye FMitch - see you tomorrow, hopefully.

9:13 am

See ya, FMitch

9:14 am

It's because we teach such sketchy history now!

9:15 am

{{{SNOWY}}} Loooooooove your icon!

9:15 am

Amen, snowy! History is a bore to kids today.

9:16 am

It's pathetic. I love history, did it for A-level and for two years at university. Learning dates and facts became second nature. My two daughters similarly did history, but they have no overview of how the centuries changed etc.

9:17 am

I love history & so do my Girls. I guess I'm pretty good at making it fun...

9:17 am

He also asked me if I had to write with a quill pen! Almost - but not quite! Oh how I hated the wooden pen with the broken metal nib! Hi Jera! & gramma - just had to use our Guide logo!

9:18 am

I think it's so important to be able to understand that the world is why it is today because of what happened before.

9:19 am

I'm tutoring turn of the century Amer. history..the jazz age, etc. I hear "What's jazz?" I try to show the similarities on immigration then and now, they don't care.

9:19 am

One of my favorite sayings is Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I quoted that the other day & my husband asked the Sprite, do you know who said that? And she said, Mom! (Meaning I made it up, not that I said it just then). That was pretty funny.

9:20 am

Brillliant, Jera!

9:21 am

I had to restart my computer & now I have to re-input all my words into lickety's chart. How about a save feature for an improvement suggestion?

9:21 am

My daughter did Ancient History & Civilisation for her degree. But it is a pity that history is not as wekk regarded as it used to be. How do we know who we are without our history?

9:21 am

Well - it shows she's been listening, Jera! Let's hope she understands how important it is.

9:22 am

Jera - it would be a good idea of we could save the words. I know you can save it as a word document, but that takes foresight!

9:22 am

The sad/frustrating part is how those of us who know history are rather helpless as we witness others making the same mistakes made centuries before... I sometimes feel much like Cassandra.

9:23 am

second fi4?

9:23 am

I've been thinking about going back to school & finishing my degree... history would be awesome!

9:23 am

Angel - french for son

9:24 am

Angelsong - the second fi4 is French for son.

9:24 am

We are the champions - my friend And we'll keep on fighting till the end We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers 'Cause we are the champions of the world...... Hiya, everyone!!!!!!!

9:25 am

And if you don't know French, it ends in the letter normally used for plurals.

9:25 am

A Chelsea fan?

9:25 am

Ummmm.....yeah!!!!!

9:26 am

Okay - off to wake up hubby from his afternoon nap (!) and then go for coffees.

9:26 am

So, what about Mr Scolari then, movieman?

9:27 am

Bye Chris, have a nice day.

9:27 am

Bye Haz - will be back later to finish.

9:27 am

Haz - personally, I didn't think he was the right man for the job, anyway.....

9:28 am

But wasn't it hilarious that the FA makes it public that they are offering him the job, and then he tells them 'No thanks'

9:30 am

I agree, Haz, I mean the whole thing has descended into a total farce..... I mean, what sort of manager would announce that he was leaving his team, just before a MAJOR tournament?

9:31 am

And what sort of manager will happily take up the England position, knowing that he is second choice at best. Mind you, the money offered might prove to be a compensation for hurt feelings!

9:32 am

hi all

9:33 am

SCD - Hiya!!!!!! I'm so happy, I am sooooo happp-pppy!!!!!!

9:33 am

why? are you done?

9:34 am

SCD - nope, my team has just clinched their second successive championship by defeating the "mighty" Manchester United 3-0.....

9:34 am

Help, please w/the big old AW..

9:34 am

ohhhh... i root for puddlemere united

9:35 am

Anyway, time I was heading off - dog walking time and ironing to be done afterwards. Have a good day everyone. (And Movieman, when Chelsea have won as many championships as Manchester United, they will be able to call themselves mighty as well......)

9:35 am

just found the li8, but the 9 escapes me?

9:36 am

Cya, Haz...enjoy your day.

9:36 am

Haz - it's only a matter of time..... The power base in English football has already shifted....

9:36 am

gramma think of not having a small aw word

9:37 am

Congrats on the premiership movieman, my eyes are on the cup as a West Ham fan!!

9:37 am

ohhh... football... that's one of those muggle sports, isn't it?

9:37 am

Bye Movieman - enjoy your victory!

9:38 am

Seeya, Haz!!!!!

9:38 am

LI9 is like theother w/a diff ending. It ends like " I can't believe I *** the whole thing"

9:39 am

Jera, ty but I'm a bit dense. I'm not getting your clue 8(

9:40 am

gramma use the le4/4 meaning not as much

9:41 am

OOOHkie dokie. got it..thanks

9:42 am

no quidditch fans out there today? :(

9:42 am

I'll play seeker... :)

9:43 am

i hope you're fast, bash

9:43 am

I'm still in an arbor day mood, so I kept my icon from yesterday, since it just happens to be a logo.

9:43 am

blindingly... :)

9:44 am

then i shall be a beater and protect you

9:44 am

That's okay gramma, I don't get your li9 clue!

9:44 am

My hero!

9:45 am

think of li9 as the act of installing the li8. :) it rhymes with 8, too...

9:52 am

Oh, I see my problem now, I don't have the li8, LOL, just a 7

9:53 am

li8 is a floor covering....

9:53 am

Eureka! Thanks gramma!

li8 and li9 rhyme??? or am I clue-impaired?

9:57 am

li9 rhymes with the number 8

that's what I thought you said...ok so I'm not completely gone...looks like this is a job for Mr. Coffee...as in, I need MORE of

9:58 am

The clue to the li8 and 9 is floorcoverings

9:59 am

lejur doesn't count? as in i like to babble in my lejur time?

10:00 am

oh I got li8 w/o a problem (long story as to "why" this was so relevant in my poor misspent life), but I'll have to look at that 9 again

10:02 am

or am i spelling it wrong?

10:04 am

that dratted enable dictionary

10:06 am

tough crowd.

10:07 am

hurshy, check the clue at 9:38

10:08 am

why?

10:10 am

Sorry...I meant daisy

10:11 am

:)

10:11 am

oopsie daisy

10:13 am

I'm stuck w/just one left....It's the last te5, I think. Help, please?

10:15 am

Just looked in - gramma - te5/10 - first three letters as te4/4 above it, then finish with two vowels that sound like a cry for attention

10:17 am

TY Haz. I'm off to the garden..8) BBL

10:18 am

Bye gramma!

10:28 am

DUDE that is CHEAP. hyperbolic sine is allowed but not hyperbolic tangent??????????????????????? ??

10:31 am

Lol hurshy, so nice to see you still can be surprised by the dark and mysterious ways of the enable :)

10:32 am

not often, sprite, not often

10:32 am

and i've been telling people that wondering such things is the path to madness

10:32 am

Looks like you need a dose of your own advice then ;) But I agree, it is another stupid thing of the dictionary.

10:32 am

Sorry to keep going on about it, but...... We are the champions - my friend And we'll keep on fighting till the end We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers 'Cause we are the champions of the world.......

10:33 am

how's your puzzle going sprite? i have 19 left.

10:33 am

LOL! Well, congrats then, and enjoy the party!

10:34 am

I haven't been playing longer than 10 minutes per time today, so it's going slowwwwwwly. Just halfway now.

10:35 am

ah, then you'll beat me for sure. esp as i am also playing 20 questions with bex on AIM.

10:36 am

Lol, sure, I'll beat you with only half to go against your 19 :D Nah, nothing doing, but wth, I am having fun anyway.

10:37 am

need i remind you that the last time we met i had 30 something left and you had 130 something and you beat me then?

10:37 am

I do. Also remember that you got distracted then ;)

10:38 am

when do i not?

10:38 am

:D Gee, I know that feeling. And that one time that I am really focussed, someone in the house yells "MUMMMMMM!"

10:39 am

I wonder if anyone could be especially kind and assist me with the j's? I've only managed to find one so far: the jo4/9......

10:40 am

There's another Jo4 and the plural, like what you have under your shoes, change first letter.

10:42 am

I'm stuck on an le6/18... I have the plural of the 5/10 before... help please with the other one?

10:42 am

Also Je4, sounds like agree.

10:42 am

TY, Sprite.....

10:42 am

a sort of sore, jera

10:43 am

Thanks hurshy!

10:45 am

Is the 9 related to the 8?

10:46 am

yup. jera- this plural of which you spoke, latin or regular?

10:53 am

I spoke of a plural??

10:54 am

le6

10:55 am

Oh... lol, you think I listen to me? English

10:55 am

I mean, regular, English wan't one of the choices was it?

10:56 am

ty

10:56 am

english/regular same thing in babble

10:56 am

So, Hurshy did you find the le? I am still stuck....Can you give a different clue for that le, Jera?

10:57 am

maker of spaghetti westerns, sergio le*** and plural

10:57 am

yes i did - the country sierra ______ and pl

10:58 am

Hurshy, here is a clue for the third jo5, just in case you need that one....it looks like it sounds like jewel. 3 vowels.

10:58 am

i don't, i did the j's early on to get them out of the way, but thanks

10:58 am

ah thanks, I forgot about the extra vowel.

10:58 am

good morning folks

10:59 am

no problem Hurshy, I was just trying to play your special game.

10:59 am

first li6?

10:59 am

thanks jee! :)

11:01 am

I am still stuck on the second me7/32. I can't get quite get the skin clue figured out....any ideas for breaking the puzzle?

11:02 am

Does it involve the fruit?

11:03 am

skin pigment

11:03 am

jeewhiz: cartoonist m** blanc + first vowel +first three letters of the number after 8.

11:04 am

Thanks Angelsong, I just couldn't get there without you.

11:06 am

really? you didn't know the skin pigment?

11:09 am

must modify my brain database to reflect what people know and don't know

11:14 am

Hurshy, I was stuck on the me with an 'oma ending and couldn't go the right way...my brain is still functioning quite nicely (most of the time.)

11:14 am

oh... skin cancer you mean? i see.

11:15 am

Yip, was thinking skin cancer, not pigment ending.

11:16 am

And there were just enough letters of the wrong one to lead me astray....the brain has strange paths sometimes, and it's easy to keep following the wrong mazes...

11:16 am

lo5?

11:17 am

lo5 - add some of the letters of the Loch monster

11:18 am

shouldn't li****a count also as the pl of the 8???

11:18 am

there i go again - madness

11:19 am

hursh; you'd think so....but you did say the 9 is related to the 8, right? still struggling with that one.

11:19 am

Latin plural of the li8 would end in i not a.

11:19 am

verb, fig

11:20 am

fig, end the word in the past tense of consume.

11:20 am

i don't think so, haz, isn't it usually um's that end with a and us's that end with i? stadium/stadia, radius/radii

11:20 am

hursh and Jee: thank you. slow morning. have another fun day to spend with my parents. i'm already traumatized.

11:20 am

uranium? cranium?

11:21 am

li9/54 - to the abbreviated floorcovering li4/4, add French masculine for 'the' followed by past tense of 'to eat'

11:22 am

yes, for li9, make the last syllable the past tense of "eat"...

11:23 am

fig, are you traumatized by the parents or the li9 word?

11:23 am

parents!

11:23 am

I only took Latin for five years so you probably know better.

11:23 am

the 'rents. i'm almost 40 and they still make me twitch. the legacy of high maintenace 65+ crazy jewish parents. it's like seinfeld on drugs.

11:24 am

:) haz, if you are going to be sarcastic, at least use my handy dandy sarcasm symbol :) | i only took latin for five years...

11:24 am

i'll be eating lino___ by the end of the weekend....and foaming at the mouth. TG for boggle.

11:25 am

do you have an ipod fig? maybe they wouldn't notice if you had it on and you could just smile and nod

11:26 am

ipod...yeah. maybe i should give it to THEM to use. it's just the constant critical commentary. oh, but that's for my therapist to hear. they are nice people, but so...critical. eh. i'll live. hand the prozac over would ya? thanks for listening. bitch session, over, out.

11:27 am

delerium? sanitarium? I never took Latin, so do these words have the same plural rule Hurshy?

11:27 am

i love that the comment list beeps out bad words, but the boggle board would allow them!

11:27 am

i don't know jee, i was just going off a couple i knew and hoping that latin had nice consistent rules :)

11:27 am

i'm happy i found the 8 on my own...! small victories, and some good coffee, and the day will be okay. good luck everyeon and hopefully see you later tonight.

11:27 am

the log beeps things? really? all i've ever said is crap and it allows that

11:28 am

bi*ch was beeped!

11:28 am

it beeps the f word and the s word

11:28 am

and i used it as a verb!

11:28 am

and presumably it would beep the c word

11:28 am

Hurshy, I know you can't know everything, but it is always good to ask.

11:28 am

haha, that's funny, i always thought people did that themselves and i thought it was kind of weird

11:28 am

leslie, that icon is cute like no 'otter'... check out cuteoverload.com

11:29 am

well maybe haz can tell us??

11:29 am

oh, believe me, fig, i do. every day. :)

11:29 am

it's a nice visual respite. (squealing...coudl you just die from cuteness)

11:30 am

classical plurals rule. i like to make them up....it's fun!

11:31 am

fig, i could watch that video of the cats fighting all day, every day and i don't think i would ever get tired of it

11:31 am

morning, afternoon, evening, folks! I am migrainic again today, so hiding in a dim bedroom with shades on... any healing energy you can send will be appreciated. Meantime, I will Babble to relive the tedium. :-)

11:31 am

the hamster, falling out of the wheel? hysterical. the hedgehog has my heart for sure.

11:32 am

my current favorite is the cat who has to take a bath that looks like puss in boots from shrek

11:32 am

sorry to hear that, stid. hopefully we can cheer you up!

11:33 am

DONE...anyone need a clue??

11:34 am

any clues for the un5?

11:34 am

yay ouwachita!

11:34 am

:) ochita un5 pres gives a state of the _____ address every year

11:34 am

a lot of workers belong to a UN5

11:36 am

11:37 am

11:37 am

11:37 am

11:37 am

11:37 am

yeah - ochita, that comes from the bottom corner, i need from the previous row

11:38 am

hurshy...I only have 2 em's

11:38 am

then it is NOT an em :)

11:39 am

11:39 am

11:39 am

oops...that is et6

11:44 am

Good Day All! Hurshy, I still can't get over how hysterical you and Douglas were on Star Trek day! I'm still laughing!

11:45 am

11:45 am

11:50 am

hursh, I was trying to invite you to IM with me but it wouldn't take what you said was your Id the other day..

11:51 am

well, i don't think there's too many other things that use the (word?) gwhim

11:51 am

hurshy238?

11:52 am

Yes 238 said there was a problem

11:52 am

although there is apparently a faculty professor at texas a & m with the name gwhim

11:52 am

hurshy ....not only can you quote the princess bride in its entirety, but i can google you.... you are my new idol :)

11:53 am

actually you could probably google a lot of us!

11:54 am

oh what maybe that's a student... in any case, isn't there anymore

11:54 am

*what = wait

11:54 am

ok well really it was the princess bride song the other day...this was just an added bonus lol

11:55 am

princess bride song? you mean much ado about nothing song... and assorted princess bride lines.

11:56 am

~hangs her head~ i'm not worthy hursh.......;)

11:56 am

*happy jig of discovery* I just got the _9_!

11:56 am

silly blueskies.

11:58 am

I googled my name once and all I got was a character out of a Canadian mystery novel . Apparently I'm a lesbian Detective!!!!

11:59 am

i am also a male minister at a georgia baptist church

12:01 pm

Hursh, I tried adding you as a contact and it said there was an error with the server.... try adding me if you want....chicashton

12:02 pm

it says you are offline

12:02 pm

somebody is living my dream life...teaching dance(country at that!) at a college. lol

12:04 pm

I'm not tho, I just spoke with 'nut....

12:05 pm

hmm, i don't know... have you got some sort of block on?

12:05 pm

We're on cable modem; so we're always on.

12:05 pm

me4/6?

12:06 pm

yes but in AIM you can block people you don't know or something...

12:07 pm

I don't think so....I added some one else just 2 days ago...

12:07 pm

vewwwwy mystewious

12:09 pm

guess who's back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12:11 pm

hi Frckle!

12:12 pm

Whoo-hoo! *happy dance of doneness*

12:13 pm

hooray for jera!

12:14 pm

YAY Jera!

12:14 pm

I checked alll my settings and asked my inhome geek; we don't have any blockers on that would preclude you.

12:15 pm

angelsong - did you get the me 4.6? I don't have it yet, but i'm looking.

12:15 pm

me + two different vowels

12:15 pm

just got it! me 4/6: what a french cat says...

12:16 pm

i don't have any blocks on either - we are talking AIM right, not MSN or yahoo?

12:17 pm

Ah that's it! I'm on Yahoo. don't like Msn.

12:18 pm

Hi everyone! Hurshy - I needed you to play GWMMIM last night<G> I got down to 38 words before I got the list. I'm thinking about starting this one. BGL will be here in a few hours and can finish it for me while I pack.

12:18 pm

i can't use MSN or yahoo, i have AIM.

12:18 pm

oh, i'm sorry i wasn't here SMF :)

12:18 pm

I have AIM also. I have Yahoo but forget to turn it on.

12:18 pm

i thought there was a program that could merge your aim, yahoo and msn lists...?

12:18 pm

so sorry, so sad :-(

12:19 pm

hi musicmom! <not packed yet?> *expression of astonishment*

12:19 pm

chic - you can get AIM, it is free

12:19 pm

Last two loads are in the washer and dryer. The kids are packed. I have most of my stuff on the bed --- waiting on Greg to get his act together.

12:19 pm

is that an AOL thing?

12:20 pm

yes. www.aim.com to get it.

12:20 pm

That's just the clothes --- still have to think about auto entertainment for the kids and groceries once B and J get here.

12:21 pm

oh - that is believable! ten minutes before we left for skiing a couple weeks ago Tom was still looking for his goggles... he's only been home on vacation all week! wouldn't want to plan ahead or anything.

12:21 pm

We aren't leaving until tomorrow --- I have PLENTY of time<G>

12:21 pm

I'll try it later. I have to run to the store before it gets hot...( I generally don't like AOL tho)

12:21 pm

*grin* that's more than plenty, that's an abundance!

12:22 pm

LOL stid --- Exactly -- you know what I'm going through. Plus Greg is playing a recital before we leave town tomorrow (that was his wonderful planning - not mine) so he is at rehearsal and sound check right now.

12:22 pm

later chic...

12:22 pm

My in-house geek says you can get programs, like gaim or trillion, to talk on all three at once

12:22 pm

Bye chic!

12:23 pm

I use gaim -- it's funny because it lacks some features the others do, but the chat stuff works fine.

12:23 pm

Good morning all. A late start today, but I see several old friends chatting away and it's a good feeling. So far I've worked with the grid quite happily until I've found myself stymied by three re5's. Any suggestions anyone? Ta

12:23 pm

Good Day, all!

12:23 pm

and the advantage to gaim is that I can automatically log in to all my accounts at once. :-)

12:24 pm

Hi and Bye MM and Stid. and thanx Leslieann, I'll look at it of have the inhouse geek fiddle with it for me. lol!

12:24 pm

Hi Hetty ---- Knut. knut = did you see how close we came to having the word "word" yesterday?

12:24 pm

Stid--sorry I didn't respond last night after the flip....'twas arguing with me mum. (She wanted me to feed her the grid and clues so she could do the puzzle and have me enter it for her, but I just don't have the time to do the puzzle today at all.)

12:24 pm

hetty -- you changed! good morning, knutmeg, **Liv**

12:24 pm

OOOPS I meant ri 5's of course.

12:25 pm

ok, 20 questions over. now must really focus on babble. sprite, you still around?

12:25 pm

I did see, and try to make the word "word" a few times yesterday, so amusing so close to my inquiry the other day.

12:25 pm

And back again... for the zillionth time today, lol.

12:25 pm

poor jaianniah -- it's not fun to be stuck away from all the fun. :-(

12:25 pm

((sprite))

12:25 pm

how many now sprite? i need 15.

12:26 pm

Hi sprite. You are very bouncy today:-)) I've been reading the chat on and off while doing stuff around the house.

12:26 pm

No, it isn't. She has done the puzzzle the last few days without being here. I asked my sister who lives near her to send over some sudoku and logic puzzle magazines today, so hopefully that'll help.

12:26 pm

hetty -- I have only three ri 5 words, all build off the previous ri 4.

12:27 pm

13!

12:27 pm

what's wrong with jai?

12:27 pm

78 to go, hurshy, but now it looks like I can babble for some time!

12:27 pm

other ri's: guns, agitates, little mermaid minus first letter

12:28 pm

go sprite go!! and Hurshy too. I have only entered 5 words.

12:28 pm

so now we'll see, sprite, this is the moment of truth, 13 vs 78, who will win???

12:28 pm

You will!

12:28 pm

hurshy, those were exactly the words i needed to finish my r's! you're great!

12:28 pm

(gamblers: the smart money is on sprite)

12:29 pm

Morning, Stid--"Lord, you know I bin changed/De angels in de hebben don call my name."" I promised a chatter yesterday I would cease to be a bean or a wiener forthwith. Now, about those ri's. . .

12:29 pm

:)

12:29 pm

i'll take musicmom :)

Hello all, I don't have a lot of time but does anyone have a clue for et6/18? Only 30 to go.

12:30 pm

Hi LeslieAnn-- My mom is in the hospital because she got into a car incident (not exactly an accident) which wrenched her recently operated-on back. They are giving her some extra-strong meds for pain and trying to figure out if they need to operate to fix whatever is wrong. Nothing is showing up on CT, MRI, or XRay, though.

12:30 pm

add al5 minus last letter

12:30 pm

oh my goodness! well tell her we are all thinking of her.

12:31 pm

brb

12:31 pm

Wish her well from us! What a tough break :(

12:32 pm

I will let her know y'all are thinking of her. :-)

12:32 pm

i don't think i like te words any more... I need the last four and they are hiding from me. *pout*

12:32 pm

marc, et + first vowel + the king of the jungle - i

Thanks Leslie

12:33 pm

Well, I just wanted to explain to Stid my lack of response last night. Today is family day, so I'm off to play with my husband and baby. I should be back working on tomorrow puzzle at tonight's flip. See everyone later!!

12:33 pm

Hey yo' te-words, stop hiding from stidmama! At ONCE!

12:33 pm

bye knut, have a good day!

12:34 pm

thanks knutmeg -- have a lovely day with your family, and kiss Liv a lot for me!

12:35 pm

Sorry --- Mapquest had BGL and J going the wrong direction. They are back on track. Leslie -- how many words do you have. Shall I rise to the challenge?

12:36 pm

lol i have 89 left, but have plans in a bit. i'm guessing i won't finish until tonight :)

12:36 pm

Maybe we can meet back here and race later. I have a home show at 4:00 so I will be leaving in a bit too.

12:36 pm

i was saying you could take on hurshy and sprite... right?? (talk about your babble dream team!)

12:37 pm

Hey hurshy, they are talking about us! ;)

12:37 pm

OHHHH PLease!!!!!! I'm nowhere in the league with them. I'm tee ball to their major league.

12:37 pm

are you as embarrassed as i am?

12:37 pm

Worse, actually.

12:38 pm

yeah, i'm the kid in the outfield picking dandelions.

12:38 pm

yeah worse for you cause you're better than me :)

12:38 pm

well musicmom, at least we t-ball sorts have something to aspire to! (I have all but the last te now...)

12:38 pm

lol just some good-natured fun, girls :)

12:38 pm

Am not.

12:39 pm

you know --- anyone lurking is going to be puking soon. <G>

12:39 pm

are too

12:39 pm

Just more stubborn than you, I think ;)

12:39 pm

We sound like miss congeniality contestants<G>

12:39 pm

i'm very stubborn - but slower

12:39 pm

uh oh... so this argument could take a while... ;)

12:39 pm

LOL!

12:39 pm

*blech* sorry folks, just too much sillyness...

12:39 pm

el5/16?

12:40 pm

Yep stid --- and in t-ball you get to keep batting till you hit it. (Even if the coach has to help.)

12:40 pm

like legolas, harp

12:41 pm

E + something in in the hip zone.

12:41 pm

okay, got the last te... on to the tas!

12:41 pm

well looks like i'm better at clues, anyway :)

12:41 pm

Stid, I'm so sorry about your migraine. I was a martyr for years , but my physician husband cured me from time to time by making me pregnant, and then, as he promised, my hormone-activated trigger disappeared altogether at the change (that other kind of change we all know about). I have the three "ri" words having to do with Easter, and 2 "ri" words having to do with becoming upset (being of equable temperament few things **** me). There are still 2 fives ( and a six) I can't find.

12:42 pm

You are. Got the wrong EL, I see. Soooo sry :)

12:42 pm

hetty, check my post of about 15 mins ago

12:42 pm

hetty, i think hurshy gave some good clues for those a while back... a 5 and 6 is a type of gun and plural

12:43 pm

Stid, ask for help if you need it with the "ta"'s; I have them all (complacently)

12:43 pm

that was okay, sprite -- I needed that one ;-) *proud supporter of the "no clue left behind" initiative*

12:43 pm

lol stid

12:43 pm

Lol, thanx stidmama :)

12:44 pm

nclb for short, of course

12:44 pm

happy saturday all

12:44 pm

LOL --- that would be fun to have on tshirts. nclb

12:45 pm

ah hetty -- then there's hope for me? the migraines left for several years around the early childhood years, but are back in force these days... thinking I'll need to try something stronger than my usual... especially since the stress of the teen years isn't helping!

12:45 pm

ok sprite, i didn't have that one either... off for a bike ride.

12:45 pm

hurshy: down to 20 now.

12:45 pm

oh my GOSH doc g, if you read this log, there is something you should do to make more money - sell babble t-shirts, mugs, hats, etc!!!!

12:45 pm

12 here - i TOLD you you'd win

12:46 pm

hetty, I am lost on the first ta (of all things) and the last two as well...

hi, everyone!

12:46 pm

YES!!! I want a babble t-shirt. We could put our player names on the back!

12:46 pm

didn't we have an idea for a t-shirt a while back? it had something clever on it

12:46 pm

TempleOwl! good afternoon/morning/whatever...

12:46 pm

i'd buy!

12:46 pm

Hi TO>

12:47 pm

Stid - there is a ta that is an anagram for the story one.

12:47 pm

YES!!! Dr. G -- please do the Babble T-shirt thing... (meantime, that's such a good idea I think I'll play around with a sweatshirt I have....)

12:48 pm

thanks musicmom! Now I just need the last two...

12:48 pm

Hi there Temple! Hurshy, will you PLEASE go on babbling and not hang back until I finish, just to be in the right! :D

12:49 pm

LOL Sprite --- yep could see Hurshy doing that<G>

12:49 pm

:O i am not doing that, i am just dumb!

12:50 pm

sprite... what you forget is that Hurshy babbles 24/7 these days. Her students are teaching the classes! LOL

12:50 pm

Yeah --- and I have a bridge in Brooklyn.

12:50 pm

LOL!

12:50 pm

oh, people say such things about me!!!

12:51 pm

well, there is my lunch date... see you all later, folks!

12:51 pm

*mumbles something about there being one more R in here somewhere...*

12:51 pm

bye leslie.

12:51 pm

hey guys, I've been promoted to "people"! :-D

12:51 pm

*glad sprite didn't notice her R clues then*

12:51 pm

bye LeslieAnn!

12:52 pm

I greyed my w without a list.

12:53 pm

I got the last ta words! on to the su...

12:53 pm

Stid, to quote the Psalms "We spend our years as a **** that is told " (plus plural) No in pig Latin that would probably be "ta (long skinny letter) objective pronoun from "we". Its plural of course meeds one letter more than a snaky one. I've scrolled for Hursh's clues in vain. Ah well, will try the OED on guns. Ta

12:53 pm

we are rockin' stid

12:54 pm

Forgot the plural christmasses N... will I ever learn.

12:54 pm

ty hetty! those were the ones I needed!

12:55 pm

For the "su" one, think of the famous **** warrior and change his Z to an S

12:56 pm

4 to go...

12:56 pm

or, you know, hikaru, from the enterprise

12:56 pm

once again, hetty, thanks! what strange words are in the grid today...

12:56 pm

SPRITE!!! you drive me crazy! 10 here.

12:57 pm

I need an A, a J and a T now. But who's counting ;)

12:57 pm

*sobs*

12:58 pm

does that last si build off the si 4.5?

12:58 pm

there there hurshy -- you're still the one who's been googlified...

12:58 pm

thump thump thump thump --- that's me plodding along<G> I don't know if I have the patience to go without help today. The kids are antsy and driving me crazy.

12:58 pm

Lol, not really.

12:59 pm

send the kids outside. tell them to look for rabbit holes or something...

12:59 pm

1:03 pm

BRB...well, as r as dialup can be : ) yes, www.musiklfest.org

1:13 pm

Just left for a housework breather and came back to see GUNS leaping out of the grid at me. Noe all I need is one measly ri5. Also I appear to have missed clues I would have valued for si7...

We are the champions - my friend And we'll keep on fighting till the end We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers 'Cause we are the champions of the world......

1:23 pm

Is "congress" upper or lower case, please hursh? All I can think of is house and garden, which is evidently wrong. Nor will geese fit the bill

1:23 pm

FMitch - as you can probably gather from my last post, no, not quite!!!!!

1:23 pm

Movieman, you're kidding? Man U lost?? Chelsea won the Premiership???

1:23 pm

1:26 pm

Oh no Hurshy - you don't want to go messing with UK footie songs, that wil really bring a whole heap of trouble.

1:26 pm

If I'm only missing one m (and I have all the mu ones) what is it likely that I need?

1:27 pm

SMF, i would guess either me7 skin pigment, or me4/6

1:28 pm

It's the 7 thanks!

1:32 pm

go hurshy go!

1:33 pm

it's hopeless. i'm a pathetic babbler. it takes me twice as long to find 13 words as it takes sprite to find 78.

1:33 pm

i'm too bored to lie down so Tom found a way to dim my monitor even more... (I must look really peculiar, sitting here with shades down, no lights on, sunglasses and now a dim monitor...)

1:33 pm

you're right Hurshy --- it is hopeless. You should just quit now and let me beat you hours from now.

1:34 pm

hurshy, if you spent less time complaining and a little more babbling... do you have all ten nos?

1:34 pm

Repeat Chorus..... Blue is the colour, football is the game We're all together and winning is our aim So cheer us on through the sun and rain Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name......

1:34 pm

NO i don't!

1:35 pm

*whispers to Movieman* - don't we sing that for Man City, too?

1:35 pm

1:37 pm

Yeah, Sherb, right up the Boro.......LOL

1:37 pm

1:38 pm

1:39 pm

Movieman is making me long for the fall and Amer. football.

1:39 pm

1:39 pm

stidmama - Boro is Middlesbrough Football Club... :)

1:39 pm

Good evening Babblers - a little help us needed please I seem to be having a bother with the 6's se6/18 li6/18 no6/21 Pleaseee eeeeeeeeeeee ;-)

1:40 pm

hi Babs !! :D

1:40 pm

10 points norma!

1:40 pm

Sherb - yep, I have to concede that ol' Stevie Mac has done a tremendous job this season...... Who'd have thought that Middlesbrough would get to the UEFA cup final? That was one hell of a comeback against Steaua on Thursday night.....

1:40 pm

so did Boro do well also?

1:40 pm

oops i mean 5, i got carried away with excitement

1:41 pm

Was that a clue hurshy or am even thicker than I thought :-D

1:41 pm

and when you're saying football, you mean real football (soccer), not the american nonsense or rugby?

1:41 pm

Good afternoooooon. Good eeeevening.

1:42 pm

Hi mab

1:42 pm

no it wasn't a clue it was 5 points for you in the game GWHIM, and now that i have found li6/18 i can tell you it is an adj related to li 4/4

1:42 pm

hi Mab! : D yes, stid, proper football, aka soccer : )

1:42 pm

tsk tsk stid --- you call Amer football nonsense?

1:42 pm

Good evening mab

1:42 pm

stidmama - they're doing badly in the league (where Chelsea will come top), but this week they won a place in the final of the UEFA Cup (European Football), with a fantastic comeback in the second half of the match...

1:42 pm

ha mab! that made me think of the monty python sketch where john cleese keeps ringing a bell and finally graham chapman jumps on the chair and sqwaks!

1:42 pm

and no 6/21 is a similarly ridiculous adjective and se 6/18 is the upper house of the american legislature

1:43 pm

Sherb, can I mail you and pick your brains about pubs for our babblemoot?

1:43 pm

sherb - that match was amazing!!!!

1:43 pm

hi mab :)

1:44 pm

babbler - the 3 broomsticks, without a doubt

1:44 pm

hi FMitch! :D *wishes she'd watched football today* : /

1:44 pm

Babs - sure thing... email address is in the profile... :)

1:44 pm

oy, the babblemoot. would that I could be there.

1:44 pm

Sherb - yep, I have to concede that ol' Stevie Mac has done a tremendous job this season...... Who'd have thought that Middlesbrough would get to the UEFA cup final? That was one hell of a comeback against Steaua on Thursday night.....

1:44 pm

musicmom, I went to a professional US football game once and it was terrible! so obviously staged and pre-planned and scripted. The outcome was determined well before kickoff! Made me feel so sorry for all the time I had wasted on football...

1:44 pm

(meaning I wish I'd watched football!! LOL! not FMitch) eerrk! : /

1:45 pm

can anyone answer my 1:39 O query?

1:45 pm

FMitch - so people keep telling me!!! ... would you believe it, I was working that evening, and didn't even remember to set the video... :(

1:46 pm

Awwww Stid ------ you are killing me.......... Not that I don't love soccer as well. BUT tight buns in tight pants crashing into each other. Nothing better!

1:46 pm

movieman - you're repeating yourself... ;)

1:46 pm

Hursh, thanks for the help. Knowing it was upper case (and suddenly "seeing" , funny how that works) made all clear. Now what is this ridiculous adjective stuf? I'm stuck on no6 too

1:48 pm

Hurshy I got the se but I still cant see the mo or li 6's am i being really thick ???????????

1:51 pm

FMitch, sometimes I'm in the mood to watch a game on tv, but I'm not really into it either. Though I'm sure I'll be tuning in this summer! : )

1:52 pm

de + li9 would be more like removing the kitchen floor, wouldn't it?

1:52 pm

wouldn't it be cool if someday we had an25/660?

1:53 pm

Thanks for all the help folks - time for tea be back later

1:57 pm

The li 8 and are close-ish.

1:57 pm

that seems to be 26, stid yes, rumple

1:57 pm

take the last two letters off the 8 and replace with the suffix that sounds like 8

1:57 pm

Stid, please go and lie down in a darkened room with a damp cloth over your forehead. My temples are throbbing empathetically and I think you should start thinking of yourself for a change, so there.

1:57 pm

Oh my - couldn't even spell that word<G>

1:58 pm

anterioratelificationisly!

1:58 pm

2:02 pm

Oh, poor stidmama! I have bad headache threatening to go nuclear too. Babs - we can just drop the ism, it's a perfect word.

2:51 pm

back again... toast with marmite for lunch! my mother thinks it's disgusting, but I like it!

2:53 pm

stidmama, I've hard of marmite but don't know what it is

2:54 pm

it's sort of like really condensed worchestershire sauce, but entirely veggie. it only takes a little bit to add flavor, but it's chock full of vitamins, and it really spices things up.

2:55 pm

oooh Stidmama - I was a marmite baby - they say you either love it or hate it (I still love it).

2:55 pm

I didn't think you could buy it in the US, sounds interesting

2:55 pm

and my daughter and family (living in Australia) call it vegemite

2:55 pm

and vegemite is the australian version

2:56 pm

It's actually a yeast extract. The only other aternate is Vegemite form the Antipodes, slightly different but same principal.

2:57 pm

Is it sold in the USA

2:57 pm

I found it at the "World Market" store, do they have those where you live? Sort of like pier one but with a food section...

2:57 pm

vitameatavegemin?

2:57 pm

emerges from the grid... marmite... yeuch...

2:58 pm

well, marmite isn't for everyone, obviously! ;-)

2:58 pm

We have Pier 1 here in PA never heard of the World Market. I will look for it in the Whole Foods Market

2:59 pm

I had a cat once that loved to lick marmite from a spoon.

2:59 pm

okay, brain food resupplied... any more help on the mu 6? that last clue didn't help me -- I couldn't figure out how to connect to the T

3:00 pm

the Marmite adverts over here have the catch line... 'you either love it or you hate it...'

3:01 pm

Still looking for the aw7

3:02 pm

periwinkle -- that I got -- aw + vowel + opposite of more

3:02 pm

stidmama, thanks so much. Dont have the mu word you are looking for

3:03 pm

gee sherb, you brits really know how to market...

3:03 pm

mu6 ends with SEVENTH greek letter

3:03 pm

up to 114 but really tired, time for another nap, bbl

3:03 pm

actually, I think it's nice that they are honest -- not like us yanks who have to force things down peoples' throats...

3:04 pm

and that would be ----- ;)

3:04 pm

oh -- okay hurshy-teacher-san... *scurries off to get greek re-aligned*

3:05 pm

3:05 pm

3:07 pm

hurshy - our films may be a washout, but our adverts are the best

3:08 pm

i liked "love actually"

3:09 pm

good grief!

3:09 pm

you didn't?

3:09 pm

i mean it was a bit choppy, but hugh grant's prime ministerial speech was top-notch.

3:11 pm

grant and blair have a lot in common...

3:11 pm

no? oh well.

3:11 pm

grant is hotter though.

3:11 pm

... both hams...

3:13 pm

i really think you brits should not complain about your politicians. they can speak in coherent, complete sentences, and when they answer a question the answer relates at least vaguely to the question.

3:13 pm

any clues please for na6/18 and 7/28...thankyou

3:14 pm

any hints on the fu 6 and first fu 7?

3:14 pm

mary poppins and her ilk, mo.

3:14 pm

3:14 pm

rycaut, you pour stuff through it into a bottle

3:15 pm

stuck on my last two words: ri5/16 and the ri 6/27 after it. Any clues welcome....and thanks!

3:15 pm

thanks !

3:15 pm

and blair does not have the delusion that just because he says something, it automatically becomes true

3:15 pm

angel - a kind of gun

3:15 pm

you can shoot with them

3:16 pm

all finished! found the missing ri words, and thanks for the clues.

3:16 pm

3:16 pm

hurshy thank you ...how did i miss those!!!!

3:17 pm

hurshy - I respect your judgement on a lot of things, but I'm afraid you're very wrong on that one... eventually, every politician has been in power for too long...

3:17 pm

well perhaps he has been in power too long. however do you think he has that delusion, as bush seems to?

3:18 pm

now, on a lighter note...back to the LE's...

3:19 pm

an5/10 and an6/18 (the last two i think)..any clues please

3:20 pm

3:24 pm

hurshy thank you once again...i was going the wron way!

3:25 pm

3:28 pm

li 5 and li 6?

3:29 pm

Sorry, just the li6

3:30 pm

li5, plural fish li6, stupidhead adjective on the li4

3:30 pm

the first li4

3:32 pm

Thanks, that was stupidhead!

3:34 pm

pdq

3:40 pm

Please help, me figure the name of a fish I can pluralize (li6), then I can proceed to fret about the stupid adjective(li7)

3:42 pm

no no hetty you have misunderstood. li5 is the plural of a straight li** (by fish i was referring to whacking with a fish when you miss an obvious word). li6 is the stupid adjective based on the first li4.

3:42 pm

li7 is simba's mother

3:43 pm

Hetty, the li6 is the stupidhead adjective...add a suffix to the first li4. The li7 is a female cat.

bye, everyone . see you tomorrow...

And by the way, I find the exchanges vis-a-vis politicians from the two major English-speaking cultures quite fascinating. Didn't expect serious discussions of this kind, but find them most instructive. Thanks to all participants.

3:55 pm

un5 president gives state of the _____ address every year (which is most annoying - the fact that he doesn't write it himself, the fact that everyone claps every two minutes, or the fact that it may contain complete falsehoods?)

4:25 pm

hurshy - I would love to see you perform this on stage. My imagination is working overtime

4:25 pm

am i the dip, judi?

4:26 pm

Well, that was a dippy rhyme, Hursh. Admirable, but dippy.

Help with el5,16 pleeze

4:32 pm

I thought you were saying this was an easy one, Hurshy?!

4:33 pm

iiiii.... know a tropical island with a mango moon and banana sunshine, and on this tropical island there lives a cousin of mine. sometimes he lives in the water, sometimes he lives on the land. sometimes he likes to go sun himself on soft caribbean sand... he's a caribbean amphibian, he likes to hop in a tropical sea, caribbean amphibian, a frog in a coconut tree. the flying fish and the turtles, they see him hop where the pineapples grow... he likes to see all the islands, so island hopping he goes...sometimes he hops to jamaica, sometimes to haiti he hops, sometimes a warm puerto rico beach is where he finally stops (repeat chorus) sometimes he lives in the water, sometimes he lives on the land, sometimes he likes to play music with an all-amphibian band!! (repeat chorus)

4:33 pm

rumple - santa's helpers

4:34 pm

cnan, i see no evidence of this assertion. all i said was play play play. hurshy ALWAYS thinks people should play.

4:35 pm

4:38 pm

oh.

4:38 pm

the creature is just a frog. kermit's cousin.

4:39 pm

te5 starts same as what you have, ends with 2 vowels

4:40 pm

hurshy is not a marvel. but she does like Carvel.

Down to the A's

4:44 pm

LOL mab - do you like my Logos???

4:45 pm

Yes, stidmama!!!!!! And Sprite too.

4:46 pm

sprite the elusive leaves me inconclusive dashing in and dashing out babbling quickly, list without

4:46 pm

now, sprite may not have memorized as many silly songs as i have...

4:46 pm

I do not know what it means. It looks like cyrillic, so maybe greek - does it say Aristotle?

4:46 pm

ooh nice one stidmama

4:46 pm

its greek , it says logos... which means word

4:47 pm

yay for stidmama! isn't it just so apropos???

4:47 pm

How apt. Thanks. Very nice verse on our sprite, too.

4:48 pm

works beautifully today! ;-)

4:48 pm

thanks for the compliments, mab -- I can invent lyrics to anything as long as they don't have to make sense!

4:48 pm

*hums happily* any sesame requests?

4:49 pm

kermie, song, please, it's not easy being green....

4:52 pm

hmm... not as up-tempo as i like, but, here you go... it's not that easy being green having to spend each day the color of the leaves when I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold... or something much more colorful like that it's not easy being green it seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things and people tend to pass you over cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water or stars in the sky but green's the color of spring. and green can be cool and friendly-like. and green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree. when green is all there is to be it could make you wonder why, but why wonder, why wonder, i am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful, and I think... it's what I want to be

4:53 pm

Hursh, it means more than just "word" ; there's a whole doctrine known to the gnostics and immortalized in St. John's gospel. A most evocative and powerful word. Most appropriate for one who has such a repertoire of good lyrics to share

4:54 pm

hursh -- geez you are cracking me up today!

4:54 pm

i know hetty :) i took greek :) and since babble is a word game, it is especially perfect here.

4:58 pm

I'm blushing, hursh. Fo9rgive the eternal teacher in me. I should have intuited the depth and scope of your knowledge. Please would you put Kermie's song on Babanon? I'd loveto have a copy of it for next time my grandchildren request a song

4:58 pm

thanks hurshy == green is one of my favorite colors == and kermie's my favorite muppet

4:59 pm

do the fi 5 6 and 7 in a row all belong together?

4:59 pm

how about the ten commandments of health...? (one) wash your hands before you eat (two) brush your teeth after every meal (three) see your doctor and your dentist we all need checkups, no matter how good we feel oh how lovely life will be... if we... keep the ten commandments of health (commandments of health) (four) cover your nose whenever sneezing (five) cover your mouth when you're coughing, too (six) dress warmly in cold weather then you won't have so much coughing or sneezing to do (repeat chorus) health, oh sweet health, it's worth more than fame or wealth to me... one thing i say a lot... take care of the life that you've got... it's such a precious commodity (seven) exercise to keep in shape (eight) bathe or shower when each day is through (nine) eat lots of fruits and vegetables (ten) give your body all the sleep that it's due oh how grand we're gonna feel, cause we'll keep the ten commandments of health!

5:00 pm

oh, hetty, you can google it, and then you can hear the tune as well, would that be ok?

5:00 pm

yes stidmama the fi's are related

5:01 pm

Stid, I do hope Hursh's singing has helped you feel better, as it did me. I'm signing off to cook dinner now, regardless of my unsolved clues. See you later. TTFN

5:02 pm

see you later, hetty.

5:03 pm

see you later hetty, and yes, hurshy's singing has helped lift my spirits. I am so lucky to know folks like all you babbling types!

5:03 pm

*diving into fi land*

5:04 pm

. . . and sure, Hursh, I'll google it. Of course. By the end of the decade I'll perhaps have entered the cybernetic era.Fancy a math teacher studying Greek. I'm lost in admiration.

5:05 pm

getting closer... only les and some as to go...

5:06 pm

stidmama, the caribbean amphibian is one of kermie's songs too. here is another: if i were a poet, i would write a sonnet it would say i love you, your name would be on it if i were a farmer, you could have a bunny if i had a beehive, you would get free honey fa la la la la la la la la la la la la if i were a baker, you could have a cruller if i were a painter, choose your favorite color if i had some diamonds, i'd give you a few anything to show you how much i love you fa la la la la la la la la la la la la did you guess my secret? i am not a poet couldn't write a sonnet - and i think you know it i am not a farmer, can't give you a bunny i don't have a beehive, sorry 'bout the honey fa la la la la la la la la la la la la i am not a baker, don't know bread from batter and i'm not a painter, and it doesn't matter i don't need a present, all i have to do is look at you to show you how much i love you fa la la la la la la la la la la la la

5:08 pm

oh yes, I love Kermit too. That's such a sweet verse.

Down to 2. Help please. last an5,10 and 6,18 (after an + Spanish cheer) and plural

5:08 pm

hurshy -- you are so much fun, and that is a song I hadn't heard in a long time. Thank you.

5:09 pm

rumple they come before that, and it's licorice flavored spice, and plural

5:09 pm

no 6/21?

5:09 pm

i also love kermie's scottish song, the frogs in the glen. it really has to be heard though, the best part is the bagpipes.

5:10 pm

jeewhiz, another stupidhead adjective.

5:10 pm

no6/21 - of or pertaining to the no4/5 above it.

5:12 pm

Whoosh, guess I don't feel bad when I miss those kind of words. Thanks for your help.

HURSHY, thanks! I had just forgotten to add the one with the e and the plural. DANCE OF DONENESS!!!!!!!!*********@@@@@ @

5:13 pm

Well done rumples!!!!

5:13 pm

YAY rumplestiltskin!

5:15 pm

How about en5/10 and et 6/18?

5:15 pm

Jacula! just the person I wanted to see -- looking at your recipes the other day... what kind of "swedes" does rumpledethumps take? the ones from the islands, or the mainland type? [that's a joke, actually -- what are swedes?]

5:15 pm

then there's the rock and roll classic, the opposite song. i go up... you go down i go in a straight li4, you go round and round i go over and under, you go through (ooo!) tell me why do you always do the opposite of what i do? (oh oh oh oh) i go left... you go right i travel in the daytime, you prefer the night whatever i go away from, you go tooooo tell me why do you always to the opposite of what i do? whenever i come in honey you go out you're sure of yourself and i'm filled with doubt when i want more, you give me less when i say no you say yes yes yes!! yes yes honey you hang loose, and i'm uptight you know i'm heavy baby, and you are light when you're so false.... how can i stay true? (ooo!) tell me why do you always do the opposite of what i do? tell me WHY do you always do the opposite of what i do?

5:15 pm

5:16 pm

et6 add al5 minus last letter

5:16 pm

hurshy, I need the fish that is le 5 please...

5:17 pm

hurshy where can I hear these songs at. They sound as if they would for the kids in our playgroup

5:18 pm

ok, it seems clear to me that some people do not understand about the fish. generally when fish are mentioned here, it is not that the word is a type of fish, but that it is so easy that you hit yourse4 with a fish for not seeing it (all this is thanks to anj)

Is that the one that rhymes with tennis?

5:19 pm

now, the le5's are... a country, sierra _______ and male genital organ, change first letter

5:20 pm

hurshy, quoting you from 4:28 today... "le 6/18 plural fish; le 6/18 a kind of sore" so if I knew what the le 5 just before is, perhaps I can figure out the le 6?

5:20 pm

Stidmama - LOL. I meant the root vegetable not the Scandinavian blond! I think you know it as 'rutabaga' in the U.S.

5:21 pm

yes, correct stidmama, and the five before it is the country one

5:21 pm

ty hurshy, finally got it -- and thank you Jacula! I knew my Tom wasn't in danger...

5:22 pm

candy - i would go to amazon and look for a CD that has a collection of sesame street songs

5:22 pm

i have 8 words to go, all of them a... brb

5:23 pm

but stidmama, you do see now that the five was not fishy, only it would be fishy if you had the five and didn't get the plural

5:23 pm

Thanks hurshy i'll try that.

5:25 pm

yes hurshy *headbang* NOW i see what you mean... (though I monkeytyped around the 5 all afternoon...)

5:26 pm

5:33 pm

Amazing Beautiful Creatures Dancing Excites the Forest Glade...in my Heart how I long to Jump like the Koodoo...Listen to they Music so Nice the Organ Plays... Quietly Rests the Sleepy Tiger, Under the Vine-tree by the Waterside and X marks the spot 'neath the Yellow moon where the Zulu chief and i did spy

5:33 pm

5:33 pm

I have managed 123 words since I came on here tonight - this is a personal best so far. think my brain has switched off now though.

5:34 pm

what is that rumple?

5:34 pm

nice job, candy

5:34 pm

candy, good for you! do you want any more clues or are you really at your limit?

5:34 pm

have you got the list, candy? it is helpful.

5:34 pm

hurshy -- that is a funny song! thanks.

5:36 pm

mmmm pfeffernuesse -- german cookies (literally pepper-nuts) that are really yummy. one of those cookies that's actually better a little old!

5:37 pm

aw 7?

5:37 pm

I just check to see how many words are in the grid. I try not to use the list. I didn't get the 9 letter tonight yet

5:37 pm

pfeffernuesse must be the funniest word ever. except maybe humuhumunukunukuapua'a

5:38 pm

leslie - the opposite of another aw7 word that teenagers use a lot.

5:38 pm

i am a fan of sesquipedalian - a long word or a person who uses long words

5:38 pm

good for you candy, some of us have the motto BE LISTLESS you can be in our club

5:39 pm

lord peter liked that one too, leslie :)

My Grandmother on my Father's side was from Germany and always made them a month before Christmas and hung them on the back porch (closed in) in a cloth flour sack till Christmas. Daddy would tell how the kids would sneak in them, but she could always tell if the knot had been untied. They get good and hard and are wonderful to dip in tea or coffee. They have the an*** word in them.

5:39 pm

the nine letter uses the same first six letters as the 8, then uses the suffix that sounds like 8...

5:41 pm

i guess I should have known you would know about Lord Peter as well, Hurshy! what have you not read/studied/taught? are you as old as Methuselah? do you sleep? How did your brain get so big? Do I ask too many questions?

All my Mother's people are Swedish, so I also make, are you ready for this one? Smorbakelsers. They take 2 pounds of butter and are very low in calories (LOL)

5:42 pm

Are smorbaksesses like a shortbread?

5:42 pm

i think we all need to take a field trip to rumple's house

Sort of, you put them in a press and make them in the shape of figure 8's

5:43 pm

yes, rumple's house, then across the pond to Jacula's! Let's hear it for yummy cooking!

5:43 pm

So obvious when you get help. Makes you wonder why I didn't get it. thanks

Come on! I have 2 freezers of Highland beef and love to bake cinnamon rolls and any kind of pie

5:44 pm

methuselah lived to be 969, and in the star trek episode, requiem for methusaleh, they postulated that he didn't die even then but when on to live more lives under other names, finally leaving earth to settle on another world where he could create an android companion who would never die, not realizing that whatever kept him from dying was something about earth. i am only 28. i sleep, preferably 9 or 10 hours a night. there are plenty of things i haven't read or studied. and i am to a renaissance man as dysthymia is to depression.

5:44 pm

went, not when. obviously.

5:45 pm

son of a... now i have to go look up that dyslsmakdnadia word.

5:45 pm

I bake every day of the week (except sunday) and these recipes sound delicious. Do you think my customers would like some new cookies for a change?

5:45 pm

oh -- my hips just got three inches wider reading all about the food! I know how to make carrot sticks! And stir fry! And I make pretty good sushi rolls, too.

I also have a guest cabin next to the Wakarusa river where the catfish are so big they just might pull you in

5:47 pm

ooh, rumple, you should write a country song about that.

Candy, if you would like any recipes, just email me at highland1@mindspring.com

5:48 pm

if we wait until July, I can bring some lovely plum jelly from my russian plum tree -- it's a gorgeous pinkish red color, and so clear. And the plums are good to eat fresh, too!

5:49 pm

who is it that talked about what a great word "plum" is??

5:49 pm

ummm... little jack horner?

5:49 pm

I might just do that rumple. I am always on the lookout for something new

Now you are making me hungry. That plum jelly would be lucious on my home made bread. I bake once a week. Hate store bought bread

5:49 pm

Rumple, do you live near Lawrence? My family makes peppernuts also...They do last forever! We only make them every few years because they last so long.

5:50 pm

no, some english professor or writer or something. how the word, when you say it, is sort of round and juicy like a plum

5:50 pm

what are they made of that lasts so long?

5:50 pm

my Tom bakes the breads -- I don't have the patience or strength to knead it like it wants. But I do like inventing cakes and cookies, sauces, stews, and salads...

5:51 pm

Hi all. Hurshy, I see you've heard of the Hawaiian fish...

Jee Whiz, only about 30 minutes. My grandaughter lives in Lawrence with my two great-grandbabies. I am going there next week to get my hair cut. She is a hair stylist

5:52 pm

HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A! :D :D :D

5:52 pm

that one is a mouthful to say!!

5:52 pm

*hurshy claps with glee*

5:53 pm

When you said Wakarusa, I figured you might live near by. That is a strange name, and I haven't heard it anywhere else.

5:53 pm

runplestiltskin -- you're a great-grandmother? I thought you were MUCH younger than that -- like in your late 40s or so... WOW.

Leslie Ann, I think it is just all the spices and the fact that you hang them up and let them dry before you seal them up good and freeze them.

Jee Whiz, did you go to KU or know someone who did?

5:53 pm

Wakarusa makes me think of Fozzie Bear...

5:54 pm

wokka wokka wokka!

Thanks Stidmama, but I will be 73 in December and still ride my own Harley

5:55 pm

wocka wocka!! fozzie: so i went outside today and built a snewman snowman: what's a snewman? fozzie: nothing, what's a-snew with you?

5:55 pm

Jacula, if you are still there... looking at your recipes some more (or anyone from the UK) what is treacle? Is it like molasses?

hi everybody!

5:56 pm

helen!

5:56 pm

hey helen

5:57 pm

treacle is molasses

English word for molasses

5:58 pm

see, that's why I was sure you were younger -- Harley-riding grandma! LOL -- my paternal grandmother was like that -- joined a commune in Oregon in her late 60s.. didn't even look 70 (or act it) until she was 90. I miss her. I take after my other grandmother more -- stay at home, cautious, comfortable and quiet most of the time.

6:00 pm

well, there's another mystery solved! Sesquipedalianiacally would be a good word for the grid someday...

6:03 pm

please, a clue for fu /744; i have the hahas one....

6:04 pm

rhymes with tu 7, underground passageways

6:05 pm

SU 4.6 - clue pls

6:06 pm

treacle well! Once upon a time there were three little sisters,' the Dormouse began in a great hurry; `and their names were Elsie, Lacie, and Tillie; and they lived at the bottom of a well--' `What did they live on?' said Alice, who always took a great interest in questions of eating and drinking. `They lived on treacle,' said the Dormouse, after thinking a minute or two. `They couldn't have done that, you know,' Alice gently remarked; `they'd have been ill.' `So they were,' said the Dormouse; `VERY ill.'

6:06 pm

su + skip to my **

6:06 pm

tu, Leslieann, I had the fu6 too...

6:07 pm

Alice tried to fancy to herself what such an extraordinary ways of living would be like, but it puzzled her too much, so she went on: `But why did they live at the bottom of a well?'... Alice ...turned to the Dormouse, and repeated her question. `Why did they live at the bottom of a well?' The Dormouse again took a minute or two to think about it, and then said, `It was a treacle-well.' `There's no such thing!' Alice was beginning very angrily, but the Hatter and the March Hare went `Sh! sh!' and the Dormouse sulkily remarked, `If you can't be civil, you'd better finish the story for yourself.' `No, please go on!' Alice said very humbly; `I won't interrupt again. I dare say there may be ONE.' `One, indeed!' said the Dormouse indignantly. However, he consented to go on. `And so these three little sisters--they were learning to draw, you know--'

6:07 pm

`What did they draw?' said Alice, quite forgetting her promise. `Treacle,' said the Dormouse, without considering at all this time... Alice did not wish to offend the Dormouse again, so she began very cautiously: `But I don't understand. Where did they draw the treacle from?' `You can draw water out of a water-well,' said the Hatter; `so I should think you could draw treacle out of a treacle-well--eh, stupid?'

6:07 pm

thanks LA - I can't count!

6:13 pm

did i scare everyone away? or are you just reading the alice?

6:14 pm

i am going to wander off for a while, and read recipes... bbl.

Bless you, Leslieann

sorry, couldn't read my writing. lo5 is lo + 2nd vowel + 2 snakes

6:37 pm

no6 is xmas+@?

6:39 pm

Bless you, Rump

U R welcome Hetty

6:41 pm

i know i should have figured out the 9 by now, but.....

li9 is li8 take away last 3 letters + what you *** for lunch

6:43 pm

yeah i don't have the eight either *blush*

It's on a lot of kitchen floors

6:44 pm

Christmas can't be noel because there's no "l": the @symbol always confuses me because Iidentify it with email. Please help a slow learner

6:45 pm

exc. clue rumples. ty

6:46 pm

oh no i can't believe i missed that. ty ty ty

6:46 pm

Hi all, Hurshy, rumple, hetty leslieann and all. I didn't play today, but kept visiting through the day, just to get a fix, like a true addict

6:47 pm

hey wren, did you see your name was in the puzzle again yesterday?

no6 is plural of no5,10 no + 3 rd vowel +snake + 2nd vowel + snake

6:48 pm

hetty, christmas is there, the last letter is at the bottom middle

6:48 pm

okay, i must be dumb. for the li 9, if you take away 3 letters from the 8 and add what you >>> for lunch that only gives me 8. what am i missing?

6:48 pm

joey, leave the "e"+8

6:49 pm

i think you've got it opposite, joey, i did the same thing. the floor covering is the 8, not the 9

6:49 pm

Rumple, I beat you by six months, I will be 73 in June, but I definitely don't ride a Harley, I prefer my Toyota.

sorry only take away the last 2

6:49 pm

missyem, thanks a lot.

6:50 pm

de nada, Joey!

6:50 pm

rumple........... ahhhhhhh ty

ExWren, hurrah for you. At least you get out there and ride. Nothing like it

6:51 pm

rumple, thanks for the "loud" clues

6:51 pm

se 6/18?

You have the House of Rep and the Se****

6:52 pm

leslieann, they sit on Cap. Hill & talk alot the Se*****

6:53 pm

I'm going to turn in now, we have been celebrating our wedding anniversary, and we've had a very nice meal, and a bevy or two, so I'm ready for sleep!

6:53 pm

eek i am missing some easy ones today. thanks.

6:53 pm

how many years wren?

6:54 pm

17 years, we are both "second-time-rounders"!

6:54 pm

Oh Missyem, how could I miss the long skinny? The eyes play tricks I find. But grrrr I stll can't see the suffix or whatever comes after Christmas other than New Year

We celebrate our 55th in November but what is a "bevy"?

6:54 pm

no6 == there are 2 one is PERSON PLACE OR THING + MR FRANKEN other one is plural of no 5/10

6:54 pm

lol, well congrats, have a good night!

congrat wren - have a great evening!

6:55 pm

Congratulations, Ex-wren. The first 50 years are the worst

6:56 pm

a bevy is a drink or two! It would have been my 50th next year with my first husband, but I was widowed just before our 20th, (he was just 43yrs)

6:56 pm

sorry, Hetty, I was asking a question... the clue was "no6 is no4 + 1st vowel + stick letter" from Rumple & I am clueless which no it is, because none are accepted...

6:57 pm

Please, who is Mr Franken? ( I have then other) Should I know him?

6:58 pm

Paul Simon sang a song called 'You can call me XXX'

6:58 pm

Also a southern state abbreviation

6:58 pm

you can call me "**" Frankin, he's on TV & the radio, an american satirist & commentator

Misseyem There are 2 no6's first one is plural of no5,10 - no + 3rd vowel + snake + 2nd vowel second one is no + 5th vowel + hump + 1st vowel + stick letter

7:02 pm

Thx Rumple, I was confused, obviously! sorry Hetty

7:03 pm

You know I was liooking at yesterday's grid on the lickety site, which I had printed off tomtake to my library stint with e? No wonder I wasn't seeing Christmas! But I'm still stymied. Maybe someone else can find a non ***Franken clue thatb will help me. What comes after Christmas, other than New Year's??

Sorry Ex-Wren, my youngest daughter lost her husband in an accident when he was 43. Very sad, but glad that you have found happiness. Congratulations!!!

7:04 pm

le 6/18 (not the plural)?

7:05 pm

hetty, it ends in the first vowel and the stick with a right straight line at the bottom

I have a le**** on my skin

7:06 pm

nothing comes after christmas, but boxing day. it was the mr frankin clue that I was confused about and doesn't exist -- it's not your eyes!

7:06 pm

ah, a twisty one. thanks rumple.

7:06 pm

hetty, the first four is a part of speech -

7:06 pm

jo 5/22?

7:06 pm

Rump! You did it. You are the cat's meow

7:07 pm

sounds like a crown je***

7:08 pm

jo5/22 french game + mr frankin's first name

7:09 pm

Actually it's Franken, and he's currently pestering Minnesotans by wanting to run against Norm Coleman for Senate.

jo + 5th vowel + 1st vowel + stick

7:09 pm

Thanks, Missy and Leslieann

7:10 pm

Douglas had a marvellous clue forjo5/22 earlier. It's a form of French-Canadian patois, a mixed language;anyway you need 3 vowels together before the long skinny

7:10 pm

sorry, Douglas, I knew that....I'm old enough to remember his skits on SNL!

7:11 pm

:)

LAST CALL! Going to watch old Gunsmokes

7:12 pm

Rumple, thanks SO MUCH for your clues & have a great evening

7:12 pm

Thanks, Joey, my no's are now complete, and my "nous" restored. No, tat isn't a game word, it's British slang for know-how (at least it used to be)

7:12 pm

The very fact Al Franken is even contemplating running for Senate is humorous in a sad way. He has some serious collegiality issues with other talk show hosts, so I have a hard time believing he would make a good Senator...

7:13 pm

yw, glad to help

8:12 pm

really harp!!!! i believe it!

definately to the stones, it''s logo day as the theme and when i tried to think of a good logo the lips came right to my mind

8:15 pm

hello all and sundry! I finished earlier, but am back to clue if anyone wants...

hey stid how was your day?

8:16 pm

evening Stidmama!

8:17 pm

hi Sheryl -- this was actually my third day mostly in bed -- had a migraine the last two days... but it's starting to get better. thanks for asking LOL hope you're doing better! :-)

8:18 pm

hi missyem -- Chrysler building?

8:18 pm

hi all clue for lo 5/10 and an 5/10 please

8:18 pm

which an 5/10, dear jeffer?

migrane's have to be the worst, i think it is more pain then having a baby, lol

8:19 pm

yeah, thought it was an "allplay" day, forgot it was logos. It's one of my favorite bldgs in the world

8:19 pm

lo 5/10 is a geology term "a fine-grained unstratified accumulation of clay and silt deposited by the wind"

8:19 pm

lo 5 10 = NOT MORE, but xxxx, and add the 4th vowel as the second letter

8:19 pm

pardon me stidmama the first

8:20 pm

stid, just read about the migraine. I am SO SORRY. I get them, but for only a day at a time. They are aweful. :(

8:21 pm

an the first... an + spanish for "the" (masc.) + vowel

8:21 pm

nrkii ty no wonder i didn't see it!

8:21 pm

usually my migraines are short-lived, too. This one just "hanged on" :-( Luckily I didn't have to be anywhere or do anything today and Tom did all the kid-related stuff so I could rest.

8:22 pm

nrkii -- did you go pro recently and I missed it?

8:22 pm

and thanks to stidmama, now we know what it means, too!

8:22 pm

is it raining in Oly? I'm driving to Seattle tomorrow for my niece's b-day & it's been wet here in portland

stid, i am on the migrane list at my local hosptial, if i get a killer i go to the hospital no waiting and get a shot right away

8:23 pm

admitting I remembered the word from college geology, but had to look up its meaning today! LOL

8:23 pm

go pro?

8:24 pm

Missy, it did rain here today, and was quite windy, but there is blue sky now and it's just gorgeous... they are predicting "mostly cloudy" for tomorrow but not much rain.

8:24 pm

sorry nrkii -- I meant that I hadn't noticed a picture with your screen name before...

8:25 pm

I don't mind too much, but the b-day is supposed to be in a park so all the kids can run crazy :)

8:26 pm

Yes!!! I'm so excited to have figured out icons and such. I felt so anonymous last week. New to babble, and already addicted.

8:27 pm

hm. some parks have covered shelters, some don't. ask your sibling if that one does! And wear appropriate PNW clothing anyway -- t-shirt, sweatshirt, raincoat, hat, lightweight gloves, sturdy shoes, something to sit on -- you know the routine, I am sure!

8:27 pm

nrkii, all it took was 3 games and I paid the $10! -- def. addictive & I'm a newbie too.

8:28 pm

yes, nrkii, the icons are lots of fun, aren't they? I am still trying to figure out what icons look good and which ones don't work so well. I didn't have a good logo available today, so I put up a shot of my lavendar flowers. Not real pleased with it, to be honest, but too sight-impaired to care!

8:28 pm

stid, don't forget the SPF 30, sunglasses & shorts as well as the fleece, raincoat, t-shirt, etc. It is springtime, after all :)

8:30 pm

oh, right. though I don't usually even buy sunscreen until June... :-)

8:30 pm

well, that's it for me today... 9:30 here, and I have skipped dinner and even neglected to turn on the lights... probably should step away from the computer... Good night all!

8:31 pm

good night nrkii! see you tomorrow!

8:31 pm

pdx is a little nicer & I'm fair-skinned & trying to keep the age damage to a min. otherwise how can I continue to pass for 32 when I'm really 41?

8:32 pm

stid ty for the clue sorry to hear about the headache - doesn't computer work make it worse? o and a clue for el 5/10 anybody?

8:32 pm

el 5/10: to make really happy; el + (did eat)

8:33 pm

jeffer, el+8

could someone give a clue for the ta 5/12 pls

8:33 pm

well, the room is dark, I wore sunglasses most of the day, and we dimmed my monitor as much as possible... truth is, i was bored to tears since sound bothers me too I couldn't even listen to the radio! Lesser of two evils.

8:34 pm

ta 5/12: another geology word; "high" - one l + "we" the 7 is its plural

ty stid

8:36 pm

ol 5,10 and ol 5,14...any clues please??

8:36 pm

ta 5/12 is not unlike the one preceding (the claw of a bird of prey) except it looks like a Latin version, ending in objective person pronoun (we, **, ours, etc.)

8:37 pm

sorry missy and stid - did it again! i have that el 5/10 and the little person related one .....

8:38 pm

the other one is a virtual cut of meat e+lo4

8:40 pm

lol missyem good clue i thought i tried all the virtuals there.

8:40 pm

hi hetty! how was dinner?

8:41 pm

thx, jeffer. D'oh, I've got to get ready for a stupid fundraiser "fiesta" a friend is throwing! See you all later!

8:42 pm

later, missyem!

thats it for me another one finished

8:44 pm

i think i'm going to sneak out again, too. BBL

night all see you all tomorrow

8:46 pm

i am embarrassed about these but desperate ... je 4/9 not the name one? jo 4/9 the second? se 4/7 not the first or the "me" ? thank you

8:46 pm

OL 5.10 ends in opp of out

8:48 pm

jeffer - JE ends in opp of off. JO sounds like happy.

8:49 pm

Jeffer again - there is only 2 SE 4.7s - ?

8:50 pm

ty lynn

8:52 pm

thanks lynxxx got the je, and you are right about the se i need the second se4/7

8:53 pm

Jeffer - I thought you had two but 'if' you didn't

8:53 pm

lynxxx oops i do not need any se 4/7 sorry

8:53 pm

se 4,7...change the last letter of se 4,4 to the sheppard's crook

8:53 pm

stid, don't know if you'll be back in time to see this, but just wanted to wish you well on getting rid of the migraine! i get them too, so know just what you're going through. not doing today's puzzle, it's way too late to start it, so i'll see you all tomorrow.

8:54 pm

one more to go...any clues for si 7,32?? please

8:55 pm

SI 7/32 - this is ususally preceded by IN

8:55 pm

si 7/32 a word that normally starts with "in"

8:56 pm

great clue.. thanks!

8:57 pm

afternoon all - I'm off & done - thnx for all the help

8:58 pm

thanks lynxxx mu 6/24 anyone?

9:01 pm

ty featherbee -- surprising how many of us erudite types get migraines! maybe our brains are too big for our skulls?

9:02 pm

for mu6/24 you take mu4 (the braying one) and add a thank you in two letters (a consonant foillowed by the first vowel)

9:03 pm

ta very much, hetty

9:05 pm

Hi stid! Dinner was just fine: spinach salad, meatless meatloaf, tapioca pud. Now I feel too sleepy to begin rattling through my list again, but if you're willing to help me I might just break down and let you.

9:06 pm

i can help -- but will be multitasking -- Mikey invited me to a game of Literati, where my posterior is being trammeled.... *i love tapioca pudding*

9:11 pm

"maybe our brains are too big for our skulls?" sounds like a good reason to me! lol enjoy your literati game...somewhere, i have a link to a "real" online scrabble game...i'll have to share sometime.

9:11 pm

BGL and I are finished!

9:12 pm

hmm, there's this one...solitare scrabble: http://www.themanin blue.com/experiment/SSCrabble/

9:12 pm

YAY BGL and musicmom! BTW how did daughter's recital go?

9:12 pm

I play Literati too--but only on my husband's computer since mine doesn't have the applet (yet) Let's have a migraine-sufferers' turnament sometime. Meawhile, I am seeking one al5/10 (not the solitary one or the oily ointment one) 2 an5/10 (not the ones ending in a stick and a second vowel) and one an/6 (not the one that sounds like a truncated candy)

9:15 pm

al 5/10: a + anagram of large African cat; a + a cut of meat

9:16 pm

et 6/18 anyone?

9:17 pm

an 5/10: a nice spice... (often used at the holidays) an 5/10: an 5/10 ending in vowel, change the middle vowel...

9:18 pm

Thanks Stid. The concert was very good last night. She is dropping community chorus next year to be in marching band at school so this was her last concert.

9:19 pm

well good. glad it went well, and I know that those choices have to be made... Matthew didn't do choir this year so he could continue in band...

9:19 pm

found it! it had changed hands, so took me a while. http://games.atari.com /playgames/scrabble/lobby.jsp with that, i'm off, night.

9:19 pm

Well, we only have 30 minutes left on my battery. AND I still need to finish packing. So we will say good night. Only if it is a very small grid will we play tomorrow. Otherwise --- we will see you all in a week. Big hugs and kisses from MusicMom and BGL

9:22 pm

musicmom, will miss you and BGL a lot. Hope your vacation goes well and that your mother enjoys her surprise. Will be expecting a play-by-play when you return. (don't forget your sunscreen! and extra bottles of water!)

hello everyone!

9:23 pm

thanks featherbee, will look that up when I have a spare moment... see you tomorrow!

9:23 pm

thanks stid --- we have water wine and beer --- caprisun for the kids. Set to go. We'll miss you too. Probably too much to hope for a wireless connection in the cabin. See you next weekend. take care of that headache.

9:23 pm

hello Temple

mm - enjoy your trip! see you in a week!

9:25 pm

the first le 5/10 ??

Evening, everyone!!

Trying to finish..."fishing" for clues...

9:27 pm

hello KennyChuck! hetty -- how are you doing?

9:27 pm

thanks, Stid, but you go off and play with Mikey now. I had the spice (sing and pl) and the changed-in the-middle-vowel one and I'm giving up in the interests of marital harmony. I have a husband who doesn't like watching HEARTBEAT without me. Recover and stay well

9:27 pm

both an 6 are simple plurals of the previous an 5s

UL5/12, to be specific...please and thank you.

9:28 pm

I understand... have a lovely evening, and see you tomorrow

stidmama: r u playing now?

9:29 pm

ok now this one i really need - ol 5/14 please

9:30 pm

there's un 5/12 the holy ***** of marriage

jeffer: think of your li8/50

jeffer, first three letters = common man's name in Sweden, followed by what you say when you are buying time...

9:30 pm

yes, there are five of us... my first time playing Literati in several years, and I am sorely outclassed...

mind if i watch? been sick all day now can't sleep

Great clue, jeff, thanks.

The second TE5/10 would also be greatly appreciated...
